In keeping with the Prime Minister’s commitment to uphold good governance, will he agree to allow Parliament and the State Assemblies to function to spearhead an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the third wave of Covid-19 epidemic

The differences and incongruities between the re-imposition of a full movement control order (MCO) on eight states and territories, namely Penang, Selangor, Malacca, Johor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur Putrajaya and Labuan; conditional MCO on another six states namely Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Kedah,Terengganu and Kelantan and the continuation of recovery MCO on two states namely Perlis and Sarawak for two weeks from January 13-26 as announced by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday and today’s proclamation of emergency until August 1 raises many questions.

Firstly, why the vast difference in time-span between the two decisions. Read the rest of this entry »

Restore the mandate to Pakatan Harapan and with Anwar Ibrahim as the ninth Prime Minister, Malaysia can begin to fulfil her aspiration to be a united, harmonious, multi-racial world-class great nation and “a beacon of light in a disturbed and distracted world”

UMNO, Bersatu and PAS have failed to form a stable government as the Malay Unity rhetoric has proved to be a false promise for Malaysia.

If I had made this statement, it would be taken as proof of the allegation that I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam, but this was stated by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, the President of Warisan and former Sabah Chief Minister, at the recent Regional Outlook Forum 2021, hosted by the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore last Thursday.

Shafie said Malaysian politics needs a reset in 2021 and beyond as the Malay unity rhetoric is proven to be a false promise. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia would only be out of the woods of the Covid-19 pandemic in July 2022 yet UMNO wants to have 15GE in the first quarter of 2021

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

If the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin is right that Malaysia is set to achieve herd immunity in 18 months against Covid-19 from February after the arrival of the first batch of the initial Covid-19 vaccine supply, we will only be out of the woods of the Covid-19 pandemic in July 2022.

Yet UMNO wants to have the 15th General Election by the end of the first quarter of 2021!

Malaysia will overtake Philippines at the end of May and be the second nation in ASEAN after Indonesia in having the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases if we go by the Health Ministry’s projections

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The Ministry of Health has answered my question as to whether Malaysia will overtake Philippines and become the second country in ASEAN after Indonesia in having the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases.

Yesterday, the Health Ministry Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah posted two charts on Twitter which simulated possible scenarios for the country if it failed to bring down the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (RO). Read the rest of this entry »

Will Malaysia overtake Philippines in having more Covid-19 cases, becoming the second country in ASEAN after Indonesia with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Is anyone surprised by the deafening silence of the government parties, in particular the trio of Bersatu, UMNO and PAS to the proposal of an all-party conference to save Malaysia from the two great problems of 2021 – the Covid-19 pandemic and corruption?

I am not surprised, for it is precisely because the Perikatan Nasional coalition government had failed in these two areas in 2020 that Malaysia is facing a crisis of losing control of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, registering yesterday a record-high daily increase of 3,027 new Covid-19 cases with eight deaths, bringing the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases to 128,465 and Covid-19 fatalities to 521. Are all political parties in the country prepared to meet to save Malaysia from the two great problems of 2021 – the Covid-19 epidemic and corruption?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The refusal of the Muhyiddin Cabinet to summon a Special Parliament to address Malaysia’s losing control of the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic is the height of irresponsibility of a kakistocracy.

It is accompanied by the failure of the government for the last ten months to launch an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach to save lives and livelihoods in the pandemic.and to plan for a quick and sustainable post-pandemic economic and national recovery for the country. Cabinet tomorrow should reconsider the summoning of a special Parliament to address the worsening Covid-19 pandemic as the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases could reach 200,000 – 250,000 cases by the time Parliament is re-opened on March 8

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Yesterday Malaysia reported another 1,741 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative total to 120,818 cases. The death toll from the pandemic has also crossed the 500 mark to 501.

The Heath Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Health Ministry is mulling to allow Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic to be quarantined at home as its bed capacity at government facilities is reaching the limit of 23,000.

Currently, there are 22,089 active Covid-19 cases, with the country witnessing a high number of cases daily.

Cabinet should launch “Operation No Potholes” to ensure that no more Malaysian die because of kakistocracy in Malaysia

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

There has been another avoidable death in Malaysia, when a 31-year-old Grab Food delivery rider in Mutiara Damansara hit a pothole at Jalan PJU 7/2 yesterday, causing him to lose control of his bike before crashing on the side of the road.

The previous morning, a 75-year-old man was found dead at the site of a motor-cycle accident linked to a pothole along Jalan Tengah in Kuala Lumpur. Read the rest of this entry »

A Tale of Two Cities — Wuhan and New York

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

CNN news headlined: “Thousands packed the streets to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Wuhan, where the coronavirus first emerged, as other cities worldwide were deserted”.

This is the modern story of “A Tale of Two Cities”, the historical novel by Charles Dickens which I studied in the literature class when I was Form IV in Batu Pahat High School in 1958.

Dickens’ famous opening sentence is particularly relevant to the opening of the year 2021: Read the rest of this entry »

Why is Malaysia not learning the best lessons in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic from the top ten countries in the Bloomberg Covid Resilience Ranking?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

On 24th April 2020, I suggested the establishment of a Covid-19 Pandemic Study Centre to learn from the successes and mistakes of other nations so that we can be effective and efficient in our war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

But like the many constructive suggestions that I had made last year how best to fight to Covid-19 pandemic, it fell on deaf ears. Read the rest of this entry »
