When Mohd Puad Zarkashi was director-general of JASA, his salary was more than the then Minister for Communications and Multimedia although JASA was parked under the Ministry for Communications and Multimedia, but Puad was not answerable to the Minister concerned as he reported directly to the Prime Minister.

Unprecedented Deepavali this year – will there be unprecedented Christmas on December 25 and unprecedented Chinese New Year on Feb. 12, 2021
It was an unprecedented Deepavali this year – a new norm for Malaysian Hindus to celebrate the Festival of Lights for family members, friends and neighbours without the traditional Open House.
The question is whether Christmas in Malaysia and the world this year will also unprecedented. Further on – whether Thaipusam on 28th January 2021 and Chinese New Year on 12 February 2021 will also be unprecedented and will have to be celebrated under new norms with the continuing rampage of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Deepavali during Covid-19 epidemic should be an occasion to reaffirm fresh hopes for light to triumph over darkness and truth over falsehoods

We celebrate Deepavali at a time when the “once-in-a-century” deadly Covid-19 pandemic has infected worldwide over 53 million people and killed close to 1.3 million people, and ten nations have registered over a million Covid-19 cases, namely United States, India, Brazil, France, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom, Argentina, Colombia and Italy.
We are fortunate that while the epidemic is raging worldwide, Malaysia is ranked No. 86 among countries with the most Covid-19 infections and No. 9 among countries with the most number of Covid-19 fatalities.

As Director-General of Special Affairs Department (JASA) from 2015 to 2018, Mohd Puad Zarkashi spent RM100 million of JASA budget to demonise DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-Royalty and communist and went overseas to “beautify the 1MDB scandal” particularly among Malaysian students overseas, but it was a big flop evident from the outcome of the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018.
But in the two years after the 14th General Election, hundreds of millions of ringgit were again found and used to fund UMNO cyber operations to continue to paint the DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-Royalty and communist, and it must be conceded that these efforts to spread lies and falsehoods about the DAP were more successful this time than Puad’s efforts as JASA director-general using RM100 million of public funds. There is no other dignified option than for the Malaysia’s Special Envoy to China and MP for Bintulu, Tiong King Sing, to apologise in Parliament on Monday for his very personal, malicious and cowardly attack on the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah on Wednesday.
I agree with the Cuepacs President, Adnan Mat that Tiong had made an outrageous attack on Noor Hisham and had belittled the sacrifices of the civil servants who had been working tirelessly to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
In fact, the statement by the Deputy Health Minister Datuk Noor Azmi Ghazali last night that it was irresponsible and unreasonable to condemn the credibility and sacrifices of Noor Hisham in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the country had accentuated the mysterious role of the Health Minister, Dr. Adham Baba in this rumpus.

It is heart-rending to see the United States Government doing nothing to end the carnage from the Covid-19 epidemic which has registered more than a million Covid-19 cases and killed another 10,000 Americans since US Presidential Election Day on November 3.
It is a staggering abdication of leadership and responsibility that as the Covid-19 epidemic in the United States rages nation-wide, there is a vacuum of leadership in the US government, as Donald Trump disappeared inside the White House ensconced with his family and advisers on how to win an election already declared lost. The MP for Bintulu, Tiong King Sing’s attack on the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in Parliament yesterday was not so simple and straightforward as it was a most cowardly and malicious, hiding behind a gross abuse of parliamentary privilege.
If it was not a malicious attack, why did’nt Tiong criticise the Heath Minister, Dr. Adham Baba who must bear full responsibility in Parliament for whatever happened in the Health Ministry?
Tiong had been a five-term Member of Parliament for 21 years since 1999. Is Tiong seriously suggesting that he is not aware that on all health matters, it is the Health Minister and not the Health Director-General who is answerable to Parliament? Read the rest of this entry »

The National Security Council should minimise the adverse economic impact of lockdowns and should adopt a more flexible approach to lift early the four-week conditional movement control order (CMCO) imposed on almost all states until Dec. 6 in states where there is no red zone or report few Covid-19 cases.
There are today at least three states , i.e. Johor, Malacca and Kedah which have no red zone or district with more than 40 Covid-19 cases, although they had a red zone district each when the CMCO was announced. The NSC should consider lifting the CMCO in these three states.

I was intrigued by the unparliamentary conduct of the Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing when he attacked the Health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in Parliament today.
Tiong accused Noor Hisham for being “afraid to die” for not being in Sabah to monitor the Covid-19 situation.

Johor MB commended for asking that CMCO should be imposed in red zones only

I commend the Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad for proposing that the conditional movement control order (MCO) be enforced only in red zone areas or districts with a high number of Covid-19 cases and not the entire state.
He said the recommendation, for the consideration of the federal government, was made through the State Security Special Committee (JKKN) meeting.
I fully agree with Hasni that this is very important, so that the implementation of the CMCO does not affect the economic sector and daily life in areas with a low number of cases. Read the rest of this entry »

In which Parliament of the world would a person who had been convicted on corruption, money-laundering and abuse of power be allowed to speak as a leader of Members of Parliament except in Malaysia?
Have Malaysians forgotten that Najib is infamous world-wide as the person responsible for the 1MDB financial scandal, and who was convicted by a Malaysian court on July 28 on several charges related to the 1MDB scandal concerning corruption, money-laundering and abuse of power and sentenced to 12 years’ jail and RM210 million? The Minister for Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin Abdullah claims to be caught off-guard by the huge allocation of RM85.5 million for the revival of the Special Affairs Department (JASA), according to Malaysian Insight.
Saifuddin was said to be aware of the revival of JASA but he was not briefed on the quantum of the allocation.
His deputy minister, Zahidi Zainul Abidin – who still owes the Universiti Malaysia Sabah student Veveonah Mosibun an apology for his lies in Senate about Veveonah having to spend a night on a tree-top to get better connectivity to sit for an online examination – thinks otherwise. The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin promised in his first address to the nation in March to be the prime minister for all Malaysians, but the 2021 Budget presented by the Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz last Friday belied this solemn Prime Ministerial vow, as it had polarised instead of united Malaysians of diverse races, languages, religions and cultures in the country.
In the United States, the 46th President-elect Joe Biden promised to end Trump’s “era of grim demonization” but Muhyiddin wants to do the opposite and launch a new Trumpian “era of grim demonization” with the revival of Special Affairs Department (JASA) in 2021 Budget.

Why is the government not learning from the lessons of the Covid-19 pandemic in the last 10 months, not only in Malaysia but in the world, to implement a flexible “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” war against the coronavirus to strike a proper balance to save lives and livelihoods as well
One thought that kept recurring to me in the four-hour road journey from Gelang Patah to Kuala Lumpur today for the Parliament meeting tomorrow is: Why is the government not learning from the lessons of the Covid-19 pandemic in the last 10 months, not only in Malaysia but in the world, to implement a flexible “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy against the coronavirus to strike a proper balance to save lives and livelihoods as well.
I had suggested in Gelang Patah early this morning that the government should reconsider its decision to impose the conditional movement control order (CMCO) on Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Perak, Kedah and Terengganu from tomolrrow by taking into account the lessons in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and to have greater flexibility to allow Malaysians to live with the coronavirus without destroying livelihoods and hopes of a national economic recovery. The government should reconsider its decision to impose the conditional movement control order (CMCO) on Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Perak, Kedah and Terengganu to take into account the lessons of the past ten months to fight the Covid-19 epidemic with greater flexibility which allow Malaysians to live with the corona virus without destroying livelihoods and hopes of a national economic recovery.
There must be a proper balance between saving lives and saving livelihoods.
In Jobor there are three districts which are green, ie. without a single case, namely Balu Pahat, Mersing and Segamat; while there are six districts which are in yellow zone. i.e. with 1 to 14 cases in the last 14 days, namely Kluang, Kulai, Tangkak, Kota Tinggi, Pontian and Muar. There is only one district which is in red zone, i.e. with more than 40 cases in the last 14 days.

After four nail-biting days, which nearly turned the US Presidential Election Day into an Election Week, Joe Biden has been confirmed to have crossed the magic figure of 270 US Electoral College votes to become the 46th President of the United States.
The marvel is not that Joe Biden won, but that Donald Trump nearly won!
It is a testimony of the power of disinformation and fake news in the era of information that despite ignoring over 10 million Covid-19 cases and nearly a quarter of a million of Covid-19 fatalities in the United States in the 10-month-old epidemic – almost five times the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam war – and painting a false picture in the final days of the campaign that the United States was “turning the corner” in the Covid-19 epidemic when it was raging to a new high registering a record daily increase of 132,540 Covid-19 infections on Nov. 6, Trump was nearly re-elected President of the Unites States.

The Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s 2021 Budget is a great disappointment and a major let-down — as it was an unprecedented opportunity lost as there were no flashes of imagination, inspiration or creativity to create a united and great Malaysia.
It was ironic and very foreboding that the Budget 2021, designed to fight the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, was presented on the day when Covid-19 cases soared to a new record of 1,755 cases, with 1,199 cases in Sabah alone.
It is particularly heart-rending that the 2021 Budget had slashed billions of ringgit for curative care and public health, including deep cuts for cancer and kidney diseases with the former cut by 10 times.
This is totally against the recent advice and warning by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to all countries in the world to prepare for the next pandemic.
One thing Malaysians must learn from the US Presidential Election cliffhanger if Malaysia is not to end up as a basket case – the power of disinformation especially from top political leaders must be countered and exposed

At long last, we have official confirmation that former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was appointed as Barisan Nasional Backbenchers’ Club in Parliament on November 1, 2020.
Who appointed him? Why did MCA and MIC officials want Najib to be their leader and spokesman in Parliament?
This appointment is important and crucial for Malaysia, for it is a test case whether Malaysians have become numb to the 1MDB financial scandal which had made adverse international headlines for the past five years, and until the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018, was ruthlessly suppressed and censored locally by repressive and draconian measures, and insensitive as to whether Malaysia again becomes a kleptocracy.
