The call by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council for a confidence motion on the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, following the Fitch Ratings downgrade on Malaysia’s sovereign credit rating should be supported by all Members of Parliament, including from the Perikatan Nasional government MPs.
The Fitch Ratings downgrade cannot be simply ignored by the government and Parliament as the credibility and legitimacy of Muhyiddin as the eighth Prime Minister and his jumbo-sized Cabinet are at stake and they can only be secured whether by a confidence or no-confidence motion, so that the appellation of the Muhyiddin government as a “backdoor” government can be put to rest.

Political pundits and cognoscentis are following closely the political scenario to see whether the 38 UMNO Members of Parliament will split into two factions, with one faction voting against the 2021 Budget during the Second Reading on Thursday and toppling the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government of Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, should have asked Parliament for a consensus to amend the relevant laws to suspend the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election on Dec. 5 in view of Covid-19 pandemic instead of asking the Yang di Pertuan Agong to declare an emergency in Batu Sapi to suspend the by-election.
The Election Commission announced the nomination and polling dates for the Batu Sapi by-election on 13th October, which means that the Muhyiddin government had 41 days to ask Parliament to amend the Constitution and the relevant election laws to suspend the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election before Nomination on Nov. 23 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Has Malaysia lost control over the third wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic?

Malaysia registered the second highest daily increase of Covid-19 cases yesterday – 1,290 new cases and four deaths to reach a cumulative total of 51,680 Covid-19 cases and 326 deaths.
If Covid-18 infection increases at the daily average of the past week, i.e. 1,127 cases a day, we are likely to overtake China by the end of the year as a country with more number of Covid-19 infections.
Today, China is placed No. 65th country with 86,381 Covid-19 cases, far behind eleven countries which have passed the million mark of Covid-19 cases, led by United States with over 12 million cases, India second with over 9 million cases, Brazil third with nearly six million cases, France fourth and Russia fifth with each country over two million cases. Will Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin remain as the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia next Thursday on 26th November or will he become the shortest Prime Minister in the history of Malaysia?
He will not be Prime Minister next Thursday if the 2021 Budget is defeated in the second reading vote in Parliament, expected on Wednesday 25th November 2020.
Yet he does not seem to be doing anything to ensure that the 2021 Budget is passed although the Opposition Members of Parliament are mindful of the advice of the Yang di Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers that in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysians must show unprecedented unity to get the 2021 Budget passed. There is no other dignified option than for the Malaysia’s Special Envoy to China and MP for Bintulu, Tiong King Sing, to apologise in Parliament on Monday for his very personal, malicious and cowardly attack on the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah on Wednesday.
I agree with the Cuepacs President, Adnan Mat that Tiong had made an outrageous attack on Noor Hisham and had belittled the sacrifices of the civil servants who had been working tirelessly to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
In fact, the statement by the Deputy Health Minister Datuk Noor Azmi Ghazali last night that it was irresponsible and unreasonable to condemn the credibility and sacrifices of Noor Hisham in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the country had accentuated the mysterious role of the Health Minister, Dr. Adham Baba in this rumpus.

Yesterday, the Health Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah declined to answer the flip flop in law enforcement where the PAS Minister for Plantation Industries and Commodities, Khairuddin Aman Razali, was only fined for violation of the Covid-19 quarantine SOP after returning from Turkey on July 7.
I had posed a parliamentary question on the very same issue when Parliament starts tomorrow for its 27-day budget session, but the question is placed at the bottom of the queue and would not be answered orally.

On Sunday night, the question was whether Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would resign as Prime Minister following the rejection by the Yang di Pertuan Agong of the Cabinet’s advice to declare a state of emergency and suspend Parliament to fight the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia.
Last night, the question was whether the Muhyiddin Yassin backdoor government would fall if the UMNO Supreme Council resolved to pull UMNO out of the Perikatan Nasional government formed after the infamous Sheraton Move plot in February.

Why did the Prime Minster, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin acted like a thief in the night and convened a special Cabinet meeting to put Malaysia into a state of emergency totally without any accountability and transparency?
When did Muhyiddin reach the conclusion that a state of emergency is the best solution to his survival as the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia, which might otherwise be shorter than the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia of 22 months?

Before yesterday, nobody discussed Article 150 of the Proclamation of Emergency as a possible solution to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The reason was simple. Only the most desperate or the most mediocre Prime Minister would seek to invoke Article 150 of the Constitution to proclaim an emergency to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, as there is nothing which the Government cannot do presently to fight the war against the Covid-19 pandemic but which requires a proclamation of emergency to empower the government to do so. Why have the Parliament administrators not made any preparation for holding a virtual Parliament in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia?
Is this because the Perikatan Nasional government has not given its approval for the Malaysian Parliament to hold virtual proceedings, as its overriding concern is how to suspend parliamentary proceedings and exclude parliamentary accountability and scrutiny using the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse?
Actually, whether Parliament hold virtual proceedings should be solely decided by the Speaker and the House Select Committee, if the doctrine of separation of powers among the Executive, the Legislature and Judiciary is strictly followed in Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »

In one fell swoop, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has destroyed all public trust and confidence in its integrity and independence with its NFA decision on the case of the PAS Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali with regard to his violation of the Covid-19 quarantine SOP on his return from Turkey with his entourage on July 7, 2020.
One of the tasks of the 22-month administration of the Pakatan Harapan Government after the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 was to restore public trust and confidence in the integrity, professionalism and independence of key national institutions and it is very painful that see such work being undone by the backdoor government which illegitimately toppled the Pakatan Harapan government in the infamous Sheraton Move conspiracy. One is reminded of the Shakespearean quote: “the lady doth protest too much” when reading the Open Letter from former Sabah Chief Minister, Musa Aman, denying that that he is responsible for the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah and Malaysia.
I will say that if anyone in Sabah is responsible for the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is none other than Musa Aman.
Musa Aman was Chief Minister of Sabah for 15 years from 2003 to 2018, but he continued the policies whereby Sabah, the richest state in Malaysia, is the poorest state in the country, both in terms of poverty of the people and infrastructure development of the state – to the extent that a schoolgirl Veveonah Mosibun from Pitas, Sabah had to spend 24 hours on a tree-top to get better Internet connection to sit for an online examination! It is a most heart-rending story in Sabah.
Patients have to wait several days to receive swab test results and then several days more to be taken into either a hospital or quarantine and light symptoms observation centre because occupancy of critical care beds in Sabah hospitals is rising as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to ravage the state.

I am making a third call on the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to convene an emergency zoom Cabinet meeting to channel all resources to fight the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah.
If there is no response from Muhyiddin, I will next call for his resignation for gross incompetence and ineptitude of his Cabinet.

The Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali should be referred to the Committee of Privileges when Parliament meets on November 2, 2020 for violating the Covid-19 SOP and threatening the health and lives of Members of Parliament with his wilful attendance of Parliament on July 13, 14 and 16 when he should be on 14-day home quarantine on his return from Turkey on July 7.
Will the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin move such a motion?
