Two days ago, at the launch of the Impian Theatre, I quoted a recent Facebook post by Yusuf Hashim, photographer and gypsetter, when congratulating Lee Zii Jia for winning the All-England Badminton Singles’ Title, and said:
“The moment we forsake meritocracy over a long period, a nation will be doomed. Read the rest of this entry »
Malaysia is losing out on private investment because the effort to pursue the Malaysian Dream has slackened in the past year

I was very happy yesterday for my hopes that in March itself Malaysia can break the four-digit daily increase of new Covid-19 cases have come true following the report that the latest daily increase of new Covid-19 cases was 941, the first time new daily increase of cases had fallen below the 1,000 mark since Dec. 9 – falling on the third last day of the month.
But we have still not brought the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia – already one of the longest Covid-19 waves in the world – under control, and my hope is that we can reduce the triple-digit daily increase of new Covid-19 cases to double-digit figures next month in April. Let us rise from our disappointments after our high hopes in the 14th General Election to continue the mission to unite Malaysia into a world-class great nation to prove Bapa Malaysia right that Malaysia can be “beacon of light to a difficult and distracted world”

I am overawed and overwhelmed by this Impian Theatre project which is the product of a two-year labour of love, solidarity and idealism of Datuk K.Y. Chan, Tony Pua, the curators, Kenny Teng and Wendy Chang, and the 80 artists from all races and religions in Malaysia for their 100 artworks, and in particular the commemorative publication by Tony Pua, “A Malaysian Artists’ Visual Biography of Lim Kit Siang” with a most creative “Pied Piper” artwork by Jeganathan Ramachandran.
The 55 years in Malaysian politics since the end of 1965 had been quite a journey in pursuit of the Malaysian Dream.

Congratulations to Zii Jia as All-England men’s singles champion – an example to all Malaysians to “reach for the sky”
Posted by Kit in nation building on Monday, 22 March 2021
Congratulations to Lee Zii Jia, the new All-England men’s singles champion.
Let the 23-year-old Alor Setar-born shuttler, who joined the likes of Wong Peng Soon, Eddie Choong, Tan Aik Huang, Hafiz Hashim and Lee Chong Wei to win the All England title, be an example to all Malaysians to “reach for the sky” in their respective fields of endeavour.
Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, must dare to dream the Malaysian Dream, where the country becomes a great world-class nation which is only possible where there is unity, justice, freedom and solidarity in our plural society.

Will nephrologist and front-liner Dr. Rafidah Abdullah and the three Pakatan Harapan leaders Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu be liable to be prosecuted under the fake news Emergency Ordinance allegedly to combat fake news relating to Covid-19 or the Emergency Proclamation?
Dr. Rafidah gained national prominence when she embraced vaccine equity advocated by World Health Organisation (WHO) and twittered the government about the problem of “Dua Darjat 2.0” and called on the health authorities to “MENJAGA kebajikan petugas2 kesihatan-hospital, swasta & komuniti; bukan yang berDARJAT”. DAP will turn 55 years next week from the date the party was registered by the Registrar of Societies.
We formed DAP because we want Malaysia to be a world-class great nation in various fields of human endeavour and not be a mediocre third-world nation.
This goal must be the challenge of every generation in Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »
Call on Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, to unite against the politics of hate, lies, falsehoods and fear which are the greatest enemies of making Malaysia a world-class great nation

I have just seen a WhatsApp message which has gone to the core of the problem why Malaysians are so polarised and divided, why Malaysia is losing out in the vision to become a world-class great nation and why Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, must unite against the politics of hate, lies, falsehoods and fear which are the greatest enemies of making Malaysia a great world-class nation.
This WhatsApp message said:

Is Muhyiddin prepared to lead Malaysians throughout the country to declare he is “Malaysian first” to spearhead the 10-year National Unity Blueprint?

It was an unusual programme – the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin launching the National Unity Policy and the National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030.
When Muhyiddin cautioned Malaysians against politicians who play on racial sentiment to gain political mileage, describing them as challenges faced in multiracial countries, all Malaysian eyes were on him as the classic example. Read the rest of this entry »
Malaysians should think of how we can fulfil Tunku’s wish for Malaysia to be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”

One of the few living friends of Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman, and national independence activist, ninety-year-old Tan Sri Mohd Yusof Latiff, the Penang Malay Association President, said on Tunku’s 118th birthday anniversary two days ago that Tunku if still alive would have been depressed to see the present state of political affairs in the country.
He said: “It goes against every grain of his struggle for liberty and the right to self-govern, because racial harmony was the bedrock on why this country was granted independence from the colonists.” Read the rest of this entry »
The best way to remember Tunku is to realise his dream that whatever our race or religion, we are first and foremost Malaysians

On the 118th birthday anniversary of Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman, three quotes from him came to mind.
They are:
“We are all Malaysians. This is the bond that unites us. Let us always remember that unity is our fundamental strength as a people and as a nation.”
“We must each always think first of Malaysia, of the national need and least of ourselves …Everyone must try to help and see that the people are one-minded, with loyalty and one aim, to make Malaysia – the land we love – a happy abode for all of us. If we all do this then we can guarantee liberty, security, prosperity and happiness for the future.”
“All talk on Islamic States is just an empty dream. No man in his right sense would accept a nation which bases its political administration on religion, and in a country like Malaysia with its multi-racial and multi-religious people, there is no room for an Islamic State.”
Muhyiddin should allow Parliament to reconvene on March 8 as scheduled as Parliament had continued to function for 35 years through four Prime Ministers from 1977 to 2012 although there were simultaneously four Proclamations of Emergency during the period

Yesterday, I said that the five priorities which the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed in his New Year Message as the basis for an integrated national recovery strategy post-Covid do not stand up to public scrutiny by the first fortnight of the new year.
I referred to Priority Three “to ensure political stability with strong emphasis on good governance as a foundation for sustainable economic recovery” and Priority Four “to uphold the country’s sovereignty and strengthen Malaysia’s position on the world stage”.
Today I will examine the other three Priorities to demonstrate that they also do not stand up to public scrutiny. Read the rest of this entry »
Restore the mandate to Pakatan Harapan and with Anwar Ibrahim as the ninth Prime Minister, Malaysia can begin to fulfil her aspiration to be a united, harmonious, multi-racial world-class great nation and “a beacon of light in a disturbed and distracted world”

UMNO, Bersatu and PAS have failed to form a stable government as the Malay Unity rhetoric has proved to be a false promise for Malaysia.
If I had made this statement, it would be taken as proof of the allegation that I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam, but this was stated by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, the President of Warisan and former Sabah Chief Minister, at the recent Regional Outlook Forum 2021, hosted by the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore last Thursday.
Shafie said Malaysian politics needs a reset in 2021 and beyond as the Malay unity rhetoric is proven to be a false promise. Read the rest of this entry »

The refusal of the Muhyiddin Cabinet to summon a Special Parliament to address Malaysia’s losing control of the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic is the height of irresponsibility of a kakistocracy.
It is accompanied by the failure of the government for the last ten months to launch an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach to save lives and livelihoods in the pandemic.and to plan for a quick and sustainable post-pandemic economic and national recovery for the country. Malaysians need a vaccine in 2021 for a new national consensus to return to the quest to become a world-class great nation and to stop the country from hurtling towards the abyss of a kleptocracy, kakistocracy and a failed state

Malaysians hardly noticed that today is the last day of the 30-year plan – Vision 2020 to be a fully developed Malaysia, which is united, confident, moral, ethical, democratic, liberal and tolerant, caring, economically just and equitable, progressive and prosperous and in full possession of an economy that is competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient.
The magnitude of the failure to achieve Vision 2020 can be gauged from the failure to achieve the nine central strategic challenges by the year 2020, viz:
