Integration of public and private hospitals next week most welcome as a first step towards an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic

I welcome the announcement of the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah that the Health Ministry aims to begin integrating public and private hospitals to treat serious cases of Covid-19 by next week, as it is the first step towards an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic which we should have adopted some ten months ago.
Now that we have started on this process to ensure that we can emerge on top in the war against the Covid-19 epidemic, Malaysia must widen the scope and magnitude of this process to include key players in the private sector – the political parties, the NGOs and the civil society, the SMEs, the corporate sector and even the investors – as well as the immediate convening of a Special Parliament on the Covid-19 pandemic to provide a platform for such a strategy and approach. Malaysia will overtake Philippines at the end of May and be the second nation in ASEAN after Indonesia in having the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases if we go by the Health Ministry’s projections

The Ministry of Health has answered my question as to whether Malaysia will overtake Philippines and become the second country in ASEAN after Indonesia in having the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah posted two charts on Twitter which simulated possible scenarios for the country if it failed to bring down the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (RO). Read the rest of this entry »
Will Malaysia overtake Philippines in having more Covid-19 cases, becoming the second country in ASEAN after Indonesia with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases?

Is anyone surprised by the deafening silence of the government parties, in particular the trio of Bersatu, UMNO and PAS to the proposal of an all-party conference to save Malaysia from the two great problems of 2021 – the Covid-19 pandemic and corruption?
I am not surprised, for it is precisely because the Perikatan Nasional coalition government had failed in these two areas in 2020 that Malaysia is facing a crisis of losing control of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, registering yesterday a record-high daily increase of 3,027 new Covid-19 cases with eight deaths, bringing the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases to 128,465 and Covid-19 fatalities to 521. Cabinet should launch “Operation No Potholes” to ensure that no more Malaysian die because of kakistocracy in Malaysia

There has been another avoidable death in Malaysia, when a 31-year-old Grab Food delivery rider in Mutiara Damansara hit a pothole at Jalan PJU 7/2 yesterday, causing him to lose control of his bike before crashing on the side of the road.
The previous morning, a 75-year-old man was found dead at the site of a motor-cycle accident linked to a pothole along Jalan Tengah in Kuala Lumpur. Read the rest of this entry »
Malaysia had been dismal failures under the Perikatan Nasional Government in 2020 on all five main priorities in its post-Covid 19 strategy for 2021

In his live New Year message, the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed five priorities for the year 2021 in an integrated national recovery strategy post Covid-19.
These five priorities do not bear scrutiny for they had been dismal failures of the Perikatan Nasional Government in 2020. Read the rest of this entry »
Time for an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach as the record-high of 2,335 daily new Covid-19 infections yesterday is proof that the present strategy has failed to check the runaway surge in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic

The time has come for an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach to the war against the Covid-19 pandemic as the record-high of 2,335 daily new Covid-19 infections yesterday is proof that the present strategy has failed to check the runaway surge in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic
In fact, it shows that we are not very far from United States Institute for Heath Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) projections of 2,987 daily new cases on January 1, 2021 and 5,379 infections on March 21, 2021.

It was kakistocracy in Malaysia at its worst – with three examples yesterday especially assigning observers to tellers during parliamentary division voting which is a declaration that Members of Parliament in Malaysia cannot be trusted to carry out simple tasks.

It was kakistocracy in Malaysia at its worst – with three examples yesterday especially assigning observers to tellers during parliamentary division voting which is a declaration that Members of Parliament in Malaysia cannot be trusted to carry out simple tasks.
This assignment must be the first of its kind in Commonwealth Parliaments but it sends out the wrong messages, firstly, that MPs cannot be depended upon to carry out simple tasks; and secondly, which is more serious, that MPs cannot be trusted at all! Read the rest of this entry »
Government should reconsider its decision to impose CMCO on Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Perak, Kedah and Terengganu to strike a proper balance between saving lives and saving livelihoods

The government should reconsider its decision to impose the conditional movement control order (CMCO) on Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Perak, Kedah and Terengganu to take into account the lessons of the past ten months to fight the Covid-19 epidemic with greater flexibility which allow Malaysians to live with the corona virus without destroying livelihoods and hopes of a national economic recovery.
There must be a proper balance between saving lives and saving livelihoods.
In Jobor there are three districts which are green, ie. without a single case, namely Balu Pahat, Mersing and Segamat; while there are six districts which are in yellow zone. i.e. with 1 to 14 cases in the last 14 days, namely Kluang, Kulai, Tangkak, Kota Tinggi, Pontian and Muar. There is only one district which is in red zone, i.e. with more than 40 cases in the last 14 days.
Najib’s appointment as BNBBC Chairman in Parliament is a test case whether Malaysians have become numb to the 1MDB financial scandal and insensitive as to whether Malaysia again becomes a kleptocracy

At long last, we have official confirmation that former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was appointed as Barisan Nasional Backbenchers’ Club in Parliament on November 1, 2020.
Who appointed him? Why did MCA and MIC officials want Najib to be their leader and spokesman in Parliament?
This appointment is important and crucial for Malaysia, for it is a test case whether Malaysians have become numb to the 1MDB financial scandal which had made adverse international headlines for the past five years, and until the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018, was ruthlessly suppressed and censored locally by repressive and draconian measures, and insensitive as to whether Malaysia again becomes a kleptocracy. Why have Parliament administrators not made any preparation for holding a virtual Parliament in the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic?

Why have the Parliament administrators not made any preparation for holding a virtual Parliament in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia?
Is this because the Perikatan Nasional government has not given its approval for the Malaysian Parliament to hold virtual proceedings, as its overriding concern is how to suspend parliamentary proceedings and exclude parliamentary accountability and scrutiny using the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse?
Actually, whether Parliament hold virtual proceedings should be solely decided by the Speaker and the House Select Committee, if the doctrine of separation of powers among the Executive, the Legislature and Judiciary is strictly followed in Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »
First item of business for the 27-day budget meeting of Parliament starting on Nov. 2 is to set up an Opposition-headed Parliamentary Select Committee on Covid-19 to monitor the public health, economic and nation building crisis of Covid-19

Two months ago during the last parliamentary meeting, I asked whether the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Health Minister, Dr. Adham Baba whether they will give top priority to ensure that a Parliamentary Select Committee on Covid-19 would be set up to monitor the public heath, economic and nation-building crisis of Covid-19.
It is a serious dereliction of duty by both the Prime Minister and the Health Minister that this has not been done, resulting in a leadership vacuum to inspire public trust and confidence to rally all Malaysians, regardless of political affiliation, to wage a single-minded war against the Covid-19 virus for the public health wellbeing of the country, as well as to ensure a sustainable bounce-back of the Malaysian economy after the ravages of over seven months of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even more important, to ensure that the process of nation-building is given top priority.
At that time, the cumulative global total of Covid-19 infections had just passed the 20 million mark.

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must have attracted record viewership in his live Facebook address yesterday, but it was the worst live speech he had made since becoming “backdoor” Prime Minister on March 1.
Adverse, anxious and angry reactions were immediate on the social media when he referred to himself as “Abah” and jokingly threatened to “use the cane” if people won’t comply with the government’s SOP to curb the disease – as it was as plain as day that he was guilty of “double standards” while proclaiming that there would be “no double standards” over the Covid-19 SOP.
Public anger was palpable as a one-year told child was reported dead from Covid-19, the youngest to die from the outbreak in the country.

Malaysiakini reported that there are conflicting claims surrounding the status of Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali, who is being investigated for not adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) after returning from abroad.
Highly-placed sources informed Malaysiakini the PAS leader is on leave pending the outcome of the probe and this was conveyed to the cabinet last week.
However, this has been denied by the Minister’s aide, Muhammad Faudzi Jalil, who said it was business as usual for his boss.

Would the 66th PAS National Delegates Assembly have ignored PAS Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Khairuddin Aman Razali’s violation of Covid 19 quarantine SOP when he returned from Turkey on July 7, if he had not donated RM50,000 to his party?
This is a question many are asking.
Khairuddin’s donation was announced by the PAS Assembly permanent chairperson Husin Ismail after the PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s speech.
Political analysts had expected the PAS Assembly to touch on the Khairuddin episode and the issue of the performance of the PAS ministers in the Perikatan Nasional administration thus far, as currently, people do not have confidence in the abilities of PAS Ministers in the Cabinet, as UMNO Ministers and Deputy Ministers were seen as performing better.
But there was no questioning of the Khairuddin affair at all. Read the rest of this entry »
The Veveonah 24-hour “tree-top girl” episode has provided a rare glimpse of the shambolic governance of the kakistocratic Muhyiddin government, where there is no understanding of collective Cabinet responsibility and where no Minister dare to exercise discipline over his Deputy Minister

The Veveonah 24-hour “tree-top girl” episode has provided a rare glimpse of the shambolic governance of the kakistocratic Muhyiddin government, where there is no understanding of collective Cabinet responsibility and where no Minister dare to exercise discipline over his Deputy Minister.
This is the result of the highly opportunistic and unprincipled backdoor government, which was formed with the sole purpose of betraying the mandate of the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 for change and reform and the toppling of the legitimate Pakatan Harapan government.
The country should have been elated by the YouTube feat of plucky 18-year-old student from Kampung Sapatalang in Pitas who had dramatically highlighted the problem of digital divide in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia (a worldwide problem which must be resolved by the government of the day), and which had received to date over 790,000 views. Congrats to plucky 18-year-old student from Pitas, Veveonah Mosibin for being a subject-matter in the Cabinet – but alas, it is not about her 24-hour tree-top YouTube and the problem of digital divide in Sabah and Malaysia but the misconduct of the two deputy ministers whom the Prime Minister was too weak politically to discipline.
In a tweet this afternoon, the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said that the cabinet discussed the issue of Sabahan student Veveonah Mosibin and came to the conclusion that the statements by two deputy ministers, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin and Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri, were incorrect and inappropriate.

Zahidi and Abdul Rahim have conspired to turn the Veveonah episode into a comedy of errors highlighting that under the Muhyidin government, Malaysia is fast becoming a kakistocracy

The Deputy Minister for Communications and Multimedia Zahidi Zainul Abidin and the Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Kudat, Abdul Rahim Bakri have conspired to turn the Veveonah episode into a comedy of errors highlighting that under the Muhyiddin “backdoor” government, Malaysia is fast becoming a kakistocracy – a government by the worst persons in the country.
First, we have Zahidi accusing in Senate last Thursday that plucky Sabah student Veveonah Mosibin from Kampung Sapatalang in Pitas of lying when she did a YouTube in June of her 24 hours on top of a tree to sit for an examination because of poor internet connectivity.
He said he had checked and found that Veveonah had pretended to take a university exam on a tree to popularise her YouTube channel.
Later the same night, Zahidi apologised for wrongly accusing Veveonah of trying to garner publicity by sitting on a tree to gain internet connectivity for an online examination. Read the rest of this entry »
Call on Muhyiddin to urgently organise “Rukun Negara and sensitivity” courses for his Ministers and Deputy Ministers so that incidents like the Veveonah and violation of Covid-19 SOPs will not be repeated

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should urgently organise “Rukun Negara and sensitivity” courses for his Ministers and Deputy Ministers so that incidents like the Veveonah and violation of Covid-19 SOPs will not be repeated.
It is unbelievable that the Veveonah Incident had snared two Deputy Ministers and exposed them as having utterly lost their roots and completely cut off from the ordinary people.
Apart from passing the buck to the MP for Kudat and Deputy Finance Minister, the Deputy Communications and Multi-media Minister, Zahidi Zainul Abidin has yet to justify his somersaults in the last few days, firstly, for accusing Veveonah Mosibin of Pitas in the Senate of lying that she had to spend 24 hours on a tree-top to gain internet connectivity for an online examination; withdrawing his accusation later the same day; then repeating the accusation yesterday but blaming it on the Deputy Finance Minister.
