Will nephrologist and front-liner Dr. Rafidah Abdullah and the three Pakatan Harapan leaders Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu be liable to be prosecuted under the fake news Emergency Ordinance allegedly to combat fake news relating to Covid-19 or the Emergency Proclamation?

Dr. Rafidah gained national prominence when she embraced vaccine equity advocated by World Health Organisation (WHO) and twittered the government about the problem of “Dua Darjat 2.0” and called on the health authorities to “MENJAGA kebajikan petugas2 kesihatan-hospital, swasta & komuniti; bukan yang berDARJAT”. Will Muhyiddin support strong and effective action against hate speech and hate crimes which, if unchecked, would plunge Malaysia into greater disunity and polarisation resulting in a failed state

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Malaysia urgently needs strong and effective action against hate speech and hate crimes which, if unchecked, could plunge Malaysia into greater disunity and polarisation resulting in a failed state.

Malaysia’s diversity must be regarded as an asset and not a liability – not just during the launching of national unity plans or blueprints but at all times so that Malaysia can benefit and leverage on our unique position as the confluence of diverse races, languages, religion, cultures and even civilisations. Will Saifuddin Abdullah come clean in Parliament during the winding-up tomorrow to admit that the 2018 ICERD fiasco was solely his own making when he was Foreign Minister in Pakatan Harapan Government and that DAP knew nothing about the proposed ICERD ratification although DAP was the target of demonization for being anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Royalty?

Saifuddin Abdulah will reply in the 2021 Ministerial winding-up tomorrow in Parliament as Minister for Communications and Multimedia.

Will he come clean tomorrow to admit that the 2018 International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) fiasco was solely his own making when he was Foreign Minister in Pakatan Harapan Government and that DAP knew nothing about the proposed ICERD ratification although DAP was the target of demonization for being anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Royalty? Dare Minister for Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin Abdullah say that the purpose of reviving JASA is to undo its previous two-prong campaign to demonize the DAP and to glamorize Najib’s 1MDB scandal, and if not, would he come out openly to oppose JASA’s revival

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Dare the Minister for Communications and Multimedia, Saifuddin Abdullah, say that the purpose of reviving the Special Affairs Department (JASA) is to undo its previous two-prong campaign to demonise the DAP and to glamorize Najib Razak’s 1MDB scandal, and if not, would he come out openly to oppose JASA’s revival?

When Mohd Puad Zarkashi was director-general of JASA, his salary was more than the then Minister for Communications and Multimedia although JASA was parked under the Ministry for Communications and Multimedia, but Puad was not answerable to the Minister concerned as he reported directly to the Prime Minister.

Puad spent RM100 million of JASA budget to demonise DAP and “beautify” the 1MDB scandal but the efforts were a big flop as shown by the result of the 14th General Election

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

As Director-General of Special Affairs Department (JASA) from 2015 to 2018, Mohd Puad Zarkashi spent RM100 million of JASA budget to demonise DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-Royalty and communist and went overseas to “beautify the 1MDB scandal” particularly among Malaysian students overseas, but it was a big flop evident from the outcome of the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018.

But in the two years after the 14th General Election, hundreds of millions of ringgit were again found and used to fund UMNO cyber operations to continue to paint the DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-Royalty and communist, and it must be conceded that these efforts to spread lies and falsehoods about the DAP were more successful this time than Puad’s efforts as JASA director-general using RM100 million of public funds. The marvel is not that Joe Biden won, but that Donald Trump nearly won!

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

After four nail-biting days, which nearly turned the US Presidential Election Day into an Election Week, Joe Biden has been confirmed to have crossed the magic figure of 270 US Electoral College votes to become the 46th President of the United States.

The marvel is not that Joe Biden won, but that Donald Trump nearly won!

It is a testimony of the power of disinformation and fake news in the era of information that despite ignoring over 10 million Covid-19 cases and nearly a quarter of a million of Covid-19 fatalities in the United States in the 10-month-old epidemic – almost five times the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam war – and painting a false picture in the final days of the campaign that the United States was “turning the corner” in the Covid-19 epidemic when it was raging to a new high registering a record daily increase of 132,540 Covid-19 infections on Nov. 6, Trump was nearly re-elected President of the Unites States.

One thing Malaysians must learn from the US Presidential Election cliffhanger if Malaysia is not to end up as a basket case – the power of disinformation especially from top political leaders must be countered and exposed

One thing Malaysians must learn from the United States Presidential Election cliffhanger if Malaysia is not to end up as a basket case – the need to counter and expose the power of disinformation especially from top political leaders.

One Minister of the Najib government, for instance, had said before the 14th General Election that the 1MDB financial scandal was “fake news”.

Did this Minister ever apologise for such a lie and falsehood?

In accordance with Yang di Pertuan Agong’s advice to avoid political uncertainty amidst Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysians should be especially alert to the blizzard of fake news and false impressions perpetrated by social media influencers

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The Yang di Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has repeated his call to not plunge the country into another round of political uncertainty amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

In accordance with the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s advice to avoid political uncertainty amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysians should be especially alert to the blizzard of fake news and false impressions perpetrated by social media influencers.

A good case in point is the Coverage report yesterday making use of a four-year-old report to manufacture the false impression that I support DAP working with Najib Razak and Zahid Hamidi to form a new national government to replace the Muhyiddin Yassin backdoor government. UiTM should dismiss Musa Hassan as lecturer at its Centre of Media and Information Warfare Studies (CMIWS) as the former IGP has become a “poster boy” not only for media illiteracy but also for lies, fake news and hate speech

UiTM should dismiss former Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan as lecturer at its Centre of Media and Information Warfare Studies (CMIWS) if it aspires to be a centre of excellence for its information warfare centre, as the former IGP has become a “poster boy” not only for media illiteracy but also for lies, fake news and hate speech.

Last October, Musa made himself the joke in the cyber world when he demonstrated his media illiteracy by showing that he did not know that The Onion website was a satirical news website when he defended his comment against an old Onion article on terrorist Osama Bin Laden and the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), entitled “CIA Issues Posthumous Apology After New Evidence Clears Osama Bin Laden Of Involvement In 9/11 Attacks”.

Recently, Musa again made a fool of himself when he tried to poison the minds of the new generation of Malaysians alleging that DAP has an agenda to rewrite history by reviving the communist ideology.

In doing do, Musa denigrated the Special Branch of the Malaysian Police as an useless and incompetent outfit, when in fact the Special Branch is one of the best of its kind in the world. Read the rest of this entry »

DAP demonisers should make up their mind – Is DAP communist, want to revive communism, Christian committed to set up a Christian state in Malaysia, Chinese chauvinist, anti-Islam, anti-Malay, anti-Indian, anti-Chinese, puppet-master of Mahathir, stooge of Mahathir – as it is impossible for DAP to play so many conflicting and contradictory roles

DAP demonisers should make up their mind – is DAP communist, want to revive communism, Christian committed to set up a Christian State in Malaysia, Chinese chauvinist, anti-Malay, anti-Indian, anti-Chinese, puppet-master of Mahathir, stooge of Mahathir – as it is impossible for DAP to play so many conflicting and contradictory roles.

In actual fact, the DAP is none of these, as it is a patriotic Malaysian political party upholding the Malaysian Constitution and the Rukunegara principles and fully committed to improving the socio-economic welfare of all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region and wants to see Malaysia succeed as a democratic, just, progressive and prosperous nation which can take its rightful place in the international community.

The latest demonization of DAP came from the former inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan who in a lecture at Universiti Teknologi Mara tried to poison the minds of the new generation of Malaysians by alleging that DAP of an agenda to rewrite history by reviving the communist ideology.

DAP is a political party with a 54-year history, and although DAP leaders had previously been detained under the Internal Security Act, neither the DAP nor any of the DAP leaders had ever been accused of being a communist or support of communist causes. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysians do not want to be cow herders or pig herders but want to be on the cutting edge of technology, leveraging on the best values from the four great civilisations which meet in confluence in Malaysia, to build a world top class nation

The outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus has also seen the outbreak of another “virus” – the Internet virus of lies, fake news and hate speech which is even more critical.

The previous deadly coronavirus outbreaks, whether Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) which originated from China or Middle East Respiratory Synbdrome (MERS-Cov) which originated from Saudi Arabia, have shown that mankind is capable of prevailing over them, and it is reassuring that the Universiti Malaya Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Centre (TIDREC) director Professor Dr. Sazaly Abu Bakar has said that unlike SARS and MERS. the Wuhan coronavirus has a low case fatality ratio (CFR) and appears to be less virulent at present, with the exception of the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

But mankind has to find a solution to the Internet “virus”.

In fact, the “cyber-enabled information warfare” of lies, fake news and hate speech is one reason why the Doomsday Clock in 2020 now stands at 100 seconds to midnight, the most dangerous situation that humanity has ever faced.

Why is the Doomsday Clock so close to midnight so long after the end of the Cold War? Read the rest of this entry »

Let us make 2020 a Year of Positive Vibes for Pakatan Harapan and a New Malaysia

Last Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which takes stock of the threats posed by nuclear war and climate change each year, moved the Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight.

We are now measuring how close the world is to catastrophe in seconds — not hours, or even minutes. It is the closest to Doomsday we have ever been since the clock was created in 1947.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which was founded by those who worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II, and now includes 13 Nobel Laureates on the board, issued a statement on Thursday that read:

“Humanity continues to face two simultaneous existential dangers—nuclear war and climate change—that are compounded by a threat multiplier, cyber-enabled information warfare, that undercuts society’s ability to respond. The international security situation is dire, not just because these threats exist, but because world leaders have allowed the international political infrastructure for managing them to erode.”

In 2018, the Doomsday Clock moved to 2 minutes to midnight, as close as it has ever been in the clock’s history because of two existential threats to humanity – nuclear risk and climate change. Read the rest of this entry »

A victory for the Warisan candidate in Kimanis Karim Bujang will be an endorsement of Sabah and Malaysian nation-building formula of inter-racial and inter-religious unity, co-operation, understanding and tolerance and rejection of lies, fake news, hate speech and most irresponsible extremism

Sabah and Malaysian nation-building formula of inter-racial and inter-religious unity, co-operation, understanding and tolerance and rejection of lies, fake news, hate speech and most irresponsible extremism.

I have found myself in a most difficult and unenviable position in the past 20 months.

I had been attacked as the greatest threat to Malay rights and interests in the country, who had reduced the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to a mere puppet, to further my ulterior agenda as a Chinese chauvinist and a communist. And yet to the Chinese, I had been attacked as having sold out the rights and interests of Chinese in Malaysia and have become a puppet and a “running dog” to Mahathir.

We must reject all these lies, fake news, hate speech and most irresponsible extremism in Sabah and Malaysia for Mahathir is not my puppet and neither have I become Mahathir’s “running dog”.

But what is most shocking is that these most irresponsible extremists who spout such contradictory lies, fake news, hate speech could co-operate politically to want to destroy the Pakatan Harapan-Warisan government in Putrajaya and Sabah. Read the rest of this entry »

While Vision 2020 will not be achieved next year, let more and more Malaysians try to be Bangsa Malaysians and resolve the crisis over Jawi issue in a peaceful and consensual Malaysian way

The police are looking for a man who recorded and made viral a video clip claiming that there was a communist flag in the 2019 Penang Chingay Festival procession in Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth, Penang, on Sunday. Some 50 policemen and officers were on duty during the parade, and it was impossible they could not detect a communist flag.

Yesterday, the Gamis President Saifullah Baiduri threatened that the bloody riots of May 13, 1969 may return as long as Dong Zong still exist, and there was later the completely unacceptable explanation that Gamis had used the provocative headline against Dong Zong to attract public attention to its statement.

There was also the speech by a religious preacher at a Muafakat Nasional ceramah alleging that the Pakatan Harapan government has become a communist government and that communists have entered the Malaysian Cabinet and Government which had gone viral, while earlier that there had been Whatapps messages spreading the lies that I was a communist and even related to former Malayan Communist Party leader Chin Peng.

These are some examples of the mountain of lies, fake news and hate speech which are easily and increasingly viralled on the social media which, if unchecked, will allow bigots and extremist to turn Malaysia into a deeply polarised nation, ultimately endangering not only democracy but the nation itself.

In a week’s time, the new year 2020 will begin. While Vision 2020 will not be achieved next year, let more and more Malaysians regardless of race, religion or region, try to be Banga Malaysians and resolve the crisis over the Jawi issue in a peaceful and consensual Malaysian manner.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Let Malaysians reaffirm the constitutional principle of Islam as official religion and freedom of worship for other religions and not succumb to the lies, false new and hate speech on social media that the various races and religions are facing an existential threat

Merry Christmas to all Christians in Malaysia.

The last 12 months have been testing times for Malaysia to achieve our goal to be a top world-class nation of unity, justice, freedom, excellence and integrity where Malaysians can celebrate the diversity of races, languages, religions and cultures in peace, tolerance, acceptance and co-existence.

Yesterday, I saw on the social media a denunciation of Malaysia of having become a communist state. There was also in the social media a denunciation of myself of having becoming a “hanjian” ( 漢奸 – a pejorative term for a race traitor and Han ethnicity).

Both are equally lies. Read the rest of this entry »

Three existential threats to mankind – nuclear weapons, climate change and Internet information warfare

Sixteen-year-old Swede, Greta Thunberg has been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019.

The teenage climate activist was the odds-on favourite to win this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, but it was awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, for his efforts to “achieve peace and international cooperation.”

Greta inspired millions of young people to take action against climate change, launching a grassroots campaign when she was 15, skipping school every Friday to demonstrate outside the Swedish Parliament, pushing for her government to meet its ambitious goals to curb carbon emissions.

Her actions quickly captured people’s imagination, and in September this year millions of people took to the streets in cities across the world to support her cause.

This is a significant event and reason why Malaysians must pay greater attention to the issue of climate change, which has been described for over a decade as one of the two existential threats to humanity, with the planet earth depicted as “on a runaway train to ecological and climate collapse”.

But a third existential threat to humanity joined the twin causes of potential global catastrophes, i.e. nuclear warfare and climate change, this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysians must not allow extremists to turn Malaysia into a deeply polarised nation through unchecked dissemination of irresponsible and incendiary fake news and hate speech

Malaysians must not allow extremists to turn Malaysia into a deeply polarised nation through unchecked dissemination of irresponsible and incendiary fake news and hate speech, creating deep divisions in the country and corroding basic political institutions, fuelling societal anger, ultimately endangering democracy and the nation itself.

Recently, there have been many examples of such irresponsible and inflammable fake news and hate speech in multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-religious Malaysia.

The most recent instance was the speech by a Penang State UMNO leader and
Barisan Nasional Penang State Secretary, Datuk Omar Faudzar at the UMNO General Assembly accusing the DAP of importing “phantom voters” from China to obtain more numbers through Chinese nationals.

He told the UMNO General Assembly that if 5,000 of the Chinese nationals are placed in each of the Parliamentary constituencies, “all of our MPs will be wiped out”.

Fake news and hate speech an urgent challenge as they can not only destroy Pakatan Harapan Government but Malaysia’s hopes to become a top world-class nation

The topic tonight “Democracy in a Polarised Age” is most relevant.

For over a decade, democracy in the world is in retreat, despite isolated reverses as witnessed in Malaysia last year and recently in the presidential elections in Indonesia.

In Malaysia, the hopes of Malaysians for the first peaceful and democratic transition of power in six decades to reset nation-building policies to build a New Malaysia have turned sour and there is an urgent need for the realisation of the promises and pledges of the Pakatan Harapan Manifesto in the 14th General Election.

We are in a very polarised age, not only in Malaysia but worldwide and the problem has taken a new shape in the era of the Internet, celebrating its 30th anniversary.

A few days ago, the inventor of the world wide web, Tim Beners-Lee announced a global plan to save the web. Read the rest of this entry »

Tanjong Piai by-election has reversed the role of by-elections before May 9, 2018 – where government coalition calls for continued fight against corruption and abuses of power while the Opposition stands for a return to corruption and abuse of power of past government

The voters of Tanjong Piai parliamentary by-election will go to the polls on Saturday, 16h November.

Tanjong Piai parliamentary by-election has reversed the role of general elections and by-elections before the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 – as the government coalition calls for continued fight against corruption and abuses of power to transform Malaysia from a global kleptocracy to a leading nation of integrity in the world in a decade’s time, while the Opposition stands for a return to the corruption and abuses of power of the past government.

This is why the Tanjong Piai parliamentary by-election is important as a marker of future direction of the nation-building policies in the country – whether we continue in the reform agenda of the Pakatan Harapan government despite the missteps and mistakes of the past 18 months, or whether we abandon these reform programmes altogether.

The stand of Muafakat Nasional of PAS, UMNO and MCA on the 1MDB scandal is the best illustration – for up to now, they are united in denying that there is a 1MDB scandal although the whole world knows about the 1MDB scandal and the roles of Najib Razak and Jho Low in it, several bankers have been jailed in foreign countries for their role in the scandal and the Malaysian government is paying heavily in terms of tens of billions of ringgit for the 1MDB debts when the money could be used for the people’s welfare. Pakatan Harapan would have lost Tanjong Piai by-election if polling were held last week, but in second week of campaign, PH workers and supporters must claw back every possible vote to clinch victory on Nov. 16

Pakatan Harapan would have lost the Tanjong Piai parliamentary by-election if polling had been held last week.

In the Malay areas, Malays were told that the Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was my puppet, that the Malays and Muslims have lost their rights and position in Malaysia. But in Chinese areas, the Chinese were told that I was nothing but Mahathir’s stooge and that the Chinese had lost their rights and position in Malaysia.

In this era of social media, when lies, fake news and hate speech can be spread in a matter of seconds, both the Malay and Chinese voters would be right to be very upset if they believed these lies and there is no time or opportunity to verify the truth or otherwise of these allegations.

This is in fact the most despicable and unprincipled by-election campaign waged by the Muafakat Nasional, comprising PAS and Barisan Nasional, with the MCA included in the latter.

It is clear that Muafakat Nasional, comprising PAS and Barisan Nasional, is not competing with Pakatan Harapan as to which coalition have the best policies to make Malaysia a successful top world-class nation of unity, justice, freedom, excellence and integrity, as all that PAS, UMNO and MCA want is to wreck and destroy the Pakatran Harapan Government, although they have nothing constructive to propose, in particular about the future of Malaysia.

In the past week, we have started to refute the lies, fake news and hate speech and to tell the people the truth – that there is no basis for these lies, fake news and hate speech spread by the Opposition.
