Malaysia can, in Tunku’s words, be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world” by being an example of how four great civilisations can build understanding, tolerance, and peace and avoid War of Races or War of Religions

(Versi BM)

I am happy to be here in Kluang for the launching of my good friend of over half a century K. Siladass’ writings in Tamil in “Sinthanai Sei Maname” (Think).

After six decades of Malaysian nation-building and half a century of Rukun Negara, we should be talking about the “Malaysian Dilemma” instead of the “Malay Dilemma” or the “Non-Malay Dilemma”

After six decades of Malaysian nation-building and half a century of Rukun Negara, we should be talking about the “Malaysian Dilemma” instead of the “Malay Dilemma” or the “Non-Malay Dilemma”.

This thought came to me when I read the report “Mahathir ramps up race rhetoric after joining Putra”.

Anwar’s admission that Malaysia is losing out to Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam is a good sign that Malaysia is coming out of the denial syndrome that the country has straggled behind other countries after six decades of nation-building and that there must a reset and return to the original nation-building principles of the nation’s founding fathers for Malaysia to be a first-rate world-class nation

(Versi BM)

The 10th Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim’s admission that Malaysia is losing out to Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam is a good sign that Malaysia is coming out of the denial syndrome that the country has straggled behind other countries after six decades of nation-building and that there must a reset and return to the original nation-building principles of the nation’s founding fathers for Malaysia to be a first-rate world-class nation.

I have sounded like a broken record in my reiteration that after six decades of nation-building, Malaysia has fallen from the status of a first-rate world-class nation to become a second-rate mediocre country, and unless the country reset and return to the original nation-building principles entrenched in the Constitution and the Rukun Negara by the nation’s founding fathers, the present trajectory will end up with Malaysia as a divided, failed, and kleptocratic state in the next few decades.

Indonesia is one step ahead of Malaysia in giving a new meaning to “Unity in Diversity” with people celebrating the great ethnic, religious, and cultural festivals of the world to bring about civilizational understanding and harmony in the world

(Versi BM)

In my joint Thaipusam-Chap Goh Mei message yesterday, I ventured the view that Malaysia can lead the world in giving a new meaning to “Unity in Diversity” where Malaysians celebrate the great ethnic and religious festivals and cultures of the world while keeping their own ethnic, religious, and cultural identities.

Malaysian youths and school children must be encouraged to dream the Malaysian Dream — to be a first-rate world-class nation to contribute to global progress or to be a divided, failed, and kleptocratic state

(Versi BM)

Malaysian youths, those between 18 to 21 years old, and even younger ones, the school children, should be encouraged to dream the Malaysian Dream — to be a first-rate world-class nation to contribute to global progress or to be a divided, failed or kleptocratic state.

This is what struck me when I read the media reports that academician Mohammad Agus Yusoff had been appointed the director-general of the Community Communications Department (Jkom) under the Prime Minister’s Department to propel the Malaysia Madani concept with three thrusts to cultivate knowledge, create a society with digital skills and strengthen the people’s patriotic spirit; the digital dream of the Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil to create a new golden digital decade of the country; and the Nationl Unity Week programmes being formulated by the National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang based on the theme of “Unity in Diversity” in multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural Malaysia.

Anwar’s two reassuring speeches yesterday that he will focus on the Malaysia returning to the basics where the people know what is right and wrong, how to unite Malaysians in a plural society, and what should be the Malaysian Dream of all Malaysians

I attended two Chinese New Year (CNY) events in Penang yesterday — one the CNY Open House of the Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow at SPICE, and the other Kenduri Rakyat Bersama Perdana Menteri in Bukit Mertajam — where the Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim was the main speaker.

A Royal Commission of Inquiry on how Malaysia can, in Tunku Abdul Rahman’s words, be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”

Bapa Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman had hoped that Malaysia, with its multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural characteristics can be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”.

Malaysia is at the confluence of four great civilisations — Malay/Islamic, Chinese, Indian, and Western — and there is no reason if Malaysians can leverage on the values and virtues of the four great human civilisations in the world, why Malaysia cannot be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”.

Restore the National Compass lost after six decades of nationhood

Happy Chinese New Year to all Malaysians.

The biggest challenge in the Chinese New Year and in all ethnic and religious festivities for this year is to restore the National Compass lost after six decades of nationhood.

DAP’s challenge is to ensure that Malaysia’s “masyarakat madani” under the Anwar unity government is one that will make Malaysia a first-rate world-class nation guided by democracy, the rule of law, good governance, anti-corruption, and a global economic and education system

I wish Kepong DAP happy and productive Chinese New Year.

We are in challenging times. We must ensure that the Anwar unity government can last five years, but even more important, we must ensure that Malaysia’s “masyarakat madani” under the Anwar unity government is one that will make Malaysia a first-rate world-class nation guided by democracy, the rule of law, good governance, anti-corruption, and a global economic and education system.

Malaysia’s greatest paradox — national unity in a plural Malaysia

(Versi BM)

It is Malaysia’s greatest paradox — national unity in a plural Malaysia.

We have been talking about “national unity” for six decades but we have never been more divided today than in Malaysia’s history.

Jalan Raja Uda is the only street in Malaysia, and probably the world, to have 10,000 red-silk lanterns to welcome the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit — heralding a Successful World-Class Malaysia in the making

(Versi BM)

The ceremony tonight to light the 10,000 red-silk lanterns at Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth is significant not only because Jalan Raja Uda is the only street in Malaysia, and probably the world, to have 10,000 red-silk lanterns to welcome the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit in two weeks’ time, it marked the end of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia and a reset of Malaysia to make Malaysians all over the world proud to be Malaysians.

Malaysia must spend the last third of Malaysia’s Centennial to make the nation great again and not again lose the national compass as entrenched in the Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara as happened in the second third of the Centennial

Today is the first day of the new year 2023.

2023 will be tough and challenging year for Malaysia, for we want to compete with the world by becoming a world-class nation and not destroy ourselves by fighting among Malaysians through the use of toxic and divisive politics of lies, fear, hate, race, and religion.

Hope that the five constituencies I have represented as MP in my 57 years in Malaysian politics will be strong bases to preach the Malaysian Dream for Malaysia to become a world-class great plural nation in another three or four decades

(Versi BM)

In my 57 years in Malaysian politics, I have stood for election in five states in Malacca, Selangor, Penang, Perak and Johore – all in pursuit of the Malaysian Dream for Malaysia to be a great world-class plural nation which could in Bapa Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman’s words be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”.

I hope that the five constituencies which I have represented as Member of Parliament in the last six decades – Kota Melaka, Petaling in Selangor, Tanjong in Penang, Ipoh Timur in Perak and Iskandar Puteri in Johore – will be strong bases to preach the Malaysian Dream where there is unity in diversity with everyone regarding himself as “Malaysian First” be they Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Dayaks or Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Taoists, whether from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah or Sarawak. Malaysia is still “save-able” and worth saving

(Versi BM)

Malaysia in the 15GE should resolve to be the top OIC country in TI CPI instead of losing to five other OIC countries and likely lose out to another 10 OIC countries by end of the decade

(Versi BM)

Sultan Nazrin of Perak’s warning last Thursday to Malaysians not to be in denial and not to perform “mental acrobatics to deny the existence of the corruption ‘elephant’ that is vividly happen in front of our eyes” is most apt and timely.

This is because we are at the point where Malaysians must decide whether to unite to save the country from the catastrophe of corruption and kleptocracy or surrender to corruption and allow the country to be a failed and rogue state and a kleptocratic regime. Read the rest of this entry »
