Why is Najib blaming fourth Prime Minister Mahathir and the Pakatan Harapan Government for the RM9 billion LCS scandal when the procurement of the six LCS was made during Najib’s time and not twenty years earlier when Mahathir was Prime Minister or the Pakatan Harapan Government after him?

(Versi BM)

Former Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and his then deputy Liew Chin Tong asked a most pertinent question in their joint statement yesterday: whether the sixth Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had planned from the beginning for the littoral combat ships (LCS) project to help pay off the bad debts from the failed new generation patrol vessel (NGPV) project.

I would ask a more forthright question: Why is (i) Najib trying to blame Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister, for the RM9 billion LCS scandal when the procurement of the six LCS was made during Najib’s time – whether the conception, negotiation and signing of contract – and not twenty years earlier when Mahathir was the Prime Minister; and (ii) the Pakatan Harapan government which came after Najib’s sixth premiership?

Four-point approach to RM9 billion LCS scandal (i) to learn the lessons of the scandal; (ii) wrongdoers to be punished (iii) to ensure security and sovereignty of nation and (iv) to safeguard interests of current military staff and ex-service personnel

(Versi BM)

Everybody in Malaysia, whether government or opposition, the public or private sector, should agree on a four-point approach to the RM9 billion Littoral Combatant Ship (LCS) scandal – (I) to learn the lessons of the scandal; (ii) wrongdoers to be punished; (iii) ensure security and sovereignty of the nation; and (iv) to safeguard the interests of current military staff and ex-service personnel.

1. To learn the lessons of the scandal.

If Najib cannot rebut Rafizi’s allegation that a foreign firm had full control of LCS sub-contractor, it is additional reason why Najib is the “hidden hand” behind the RM9 billion Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) scandal

(Versi BM)

If former Prime Minister, Najib Razak, cannot rebut the allegation by the PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli that a foreign firm Rheinmetall Air Defence AG (RAD) had full control of the LCS sub-contractor Contraves Advanced Devices Sdn. Bhd (CAD), then it is another additional reason why Najib was the “hidden hand” behind the RM9 billion Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) scandal.

The PKR deputy president said RAD, a German defence contractor fully owned by RD Investment AG, held 49% shares in CAD. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks to Najib, Malaysia is even losing out to Egypt which has two Gowind LCS in operation although Egypt was later than Malaysia in contracting for the Gowind LCS

(Versi BM)

Thanks to Najib Razak, the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia who caused national infamy for Malaysia to be regarded worldwide as a kleptocracy, Malaysia is even losing out to Egypt which has two Gowind LCS in operation although Egypt was later than Malaysia in deciding to buy the Gowind LCS.

Malaysia’s decision to buy the six Gowind LCS was made as far back as 2011 although the contract was delayed and signed only in 2014, but Egypt, which signed a one billion Euro contract to buy four Gowind LCS in 2014, has now two Gowind LCS in operation. Read the rest of this entry »

Was Najib the “hidden hand” behind the RM9 billion LCS scandal?

(Versi BM)

There is one question swirling in the minds of thinking Malaysians in the past week since the tabling of the explosive report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the RM9 billion Littoral Combatant Ship (LCS) Scandal: – whether Najib Razak was the “hidden hand” behind the mega scandal.

Without reading and understanding the PAC report, which is a horror story of corruption, fraud, abuse of power, mismanagement and criminality in the public service, Najib had been very active on his Facebook in the past week to defend the RM9 billion LCS scandal and even to blame the Pakatan Harapan for the scandal. – which only reinforced the question. Zahid should not deny the undeniable and should explain why as Defence Minister in July 2011, he overturned the decision as recommended by the Navy to contract the six Dutch-made Sigma LCS and chose the Scorpene manufacturer’s six French-made Gowind LCS within three days without consulting the Navy, the end-user?

(Versi BM)

UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should not deny the undeniable but should explain why as Defence Minister in July 2011, he overturned the decision as recommended by the Navy to contract six Dutch-made Sigma Littoral Combatant Shiupt (LCS) and chose the Scorpene manufacturer’s six French-made Gowind LCS within three days without consulting the Navy, the end-user.

It is as clear as daylight that Zahid is responsible for the RM9 billion LCS scandal, and he should explain instead why he took three days on July 11, 2011 to overturn the Ministry of Defence decision of May 26, 2011 to contract the Sigma LCS and to go instead for the Gowind LCS, without first referring the matter to the Navy.

Why was the PAC report on the new RM9.13 billion financial scandal on the six Littoral Combatant Ships (LCS) presented to Parliament on the last sitting on Parliament on August 4 when it should be tabled in Parliament in the March meeting to allow for parliamentary debate and greater public scrutiny

(Versi BM)

One question which has nagged me is why the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on the latest financial scandal in Malaysia, the RMN9.13 billion scandal on the six Littoral Combatant Ships (LCS), was presented to Parliament on the last sitting of Parliament on August 4, 2022 when it should be tabled in Parliament in the March meeting of Parliament to allow for parliamentary debate and greater public scrutiny.

This was because the last meeting of the PAC on the six LCSs was on 8th March 2022, and it is a great remiss of parliamentary responsibility and duty not to ensure that the PAC report is tabled in Parliament in March 2022, as Parliament met for 16 days from 28th February to 24th March, 2022 – which meant that there were 16 days for the PAC Report on the LCS to be tabled in the March meeting of Parliament but it was not done. What is the MACC doing about the PAC report on LCS?

(Versi BM)

The Parliament Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had tabled its report on the Procurement of Littoral Combatant Ship (LCS) by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) yesterday in Dewan Rakyat.

It is sad to see how the Government had again failed Malaysians, with another mega scandal exposing a loss of RM6 billion. Read the rest of this entry »

Is the MACC aware how much money was spent from the 1MDB scandal in the 13th General Election in 2013?

(Versi BM)

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaffar told Parliament yesterday in reply to a question from DAP MP for Bukit Gelugor Ramkarpal Singh that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is currently reviewing a report on a Minister and two deputy Ministers for alleged misappropriation of funds.

This follows the testimony in June by the UMNO President, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in his own corruption trial that three UMNO MPs quit the party to save themselves from being investigated by the MACC. Read the rest of this entry »

Does Azam’s criticism of TI CPI meant that MACC now does not support the National Integrity Plan target for Malaysia to be among the top 30 countries in public integrity with the least corruption?

Does the Chief Commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Azam Baki’s criticism of Transparency International (TI)’s annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI) meant that MACC now does not support the National Integrity Plan target for Malaysia be to be among the top 30 countries in the world in public integrity with the least corruption?

Under the fifth Malaysian premiership of Tun Abdullah Badawi, the National Integrity Plan 2013-2018 was formulated which targeted that Malaysia’s score of 5.2 in the year 2003 will be improved to at least 6.5 by 2008 (10 being the best and 1.0 being worst), as well as improving the ranking of Malaysia from 37th in 2013 to at least 30th position in 2018. The “Malu Apa BossKU” campaign will be mortally crippled, anti-corruption consciousness take a big leap forward and improvement in Malaysia’s Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) if Najib admits and condemns 1MDB corruption

After my reply yesterday to Malaysiakini columnist S. Thayaparan who penned “Kit Siang helps Najib launder his reputation”, Thayaparan added a 16-paragraph addendum to his article, which deserves a response.

Thayaparan asked very naïve questions.

Reply to Thayaparan: I will never launder Najib’s reputation

(Versi BM)

Yesterday, I issued a short five-paragraph statement which tantamounts to a declaration that I will never launder Najib Razak’s reputation, and it is a pity that S. Thayaparan, who wrote COMMENT piece “Kit Siang helps Najib launder his reputation” today did not read or chose to ignore the statement.

An example that I will never launder Najib’ reputation was what happened in the Johore state general election early this year, where I said that the DAP MP Damansara Tony Pua went too far in attacking the Foon Yew school board of governors but he was right in condemning Najib Razak in using Foon Yew to exculpate his kleptocracy. AG’s confirmation of Jho Low’s RM1.5 billion offer attempting to settle the 1MDB charges against him is final evidence that the 1MDB scandal exists and not a fairy tale – what more evidence does UMNO, MCA and MIC leaders need?

(Versi BM)

The Attorney-General Chambers’ (AGC) confirmation that fugitive business person Low Taek Jho had attempted to reach a settlement with the government over the 1MDB charges with a RM1.5 billion offer is final evidence that the 1MDB scandal exists and not a fairy tale.

Let me ask the UMNO, MCA and MIC leaders: what more evidence do they need? Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia will continue in the corruption slide unless the MACC sets an example of accountability and transparency starting with its Chief Commissioner Azam Baki in the Azamgate affair

(Versi BM)

Malaysia will continue in the corruption slide unless the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) sets an example of accountability and transparency starting with the MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki in the Azamgate affair.

Recently, political economist Edmund Terence Gomez said it is time for the MACC to have an “arm’s length” relationship with the executive branch of the government, especially with regard to the appointment of the anti-graft agency’s top commissioner. This follows the incident where several prominent politicians were implicated recently when a witness in a graft case in court testified on the Ultra Kirana Sdn. Bhd (UKSB) ledger during the corruption trial of UMNO president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Strange things happening now in BN and UMNO

(Versi BM)

Strange things are happening now in Barisan Nasional and UMNO.

Firstly, the bombshell of the sacked UMNO Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman that a group of senior and influential UMNO leaders had met in his house in 2020 and agreed that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should go as UMNO President and brokered a deal that would see Zahid step down amicably but UMNO Deputy President Mohamad Hasan and former Prime Minister/UMNO President Najib Razak later reneged and backed off. Why Barisan Nasional parties of UMNO, MCA and MIC continue to glorify kleptocracy in Malaysia?

(Versi BM)

Yesterday, I asked when will UMNO, MCA and MIC condemn the monstrous mega multi-billion ringgit financial scandals like the 1MDB scandal and stop glorifying “kleptocracy at its worst” in Malaysia?

I said that the most important question in Malaysia today is not who will win the next general election but whether Malaysia will become a failed state before Malaysia’s Centennial in four decades from now – whether we continue in the present trajectory of kleptocracy or jump-start the nation-building process by getting into a new trajectory and return to the nation-building policies and principles agreed to by the founding fathers of the nation and enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara.
