Malaysia should embark on an ambitious plan to accelerate the National Covid-19 vaccination roll-out and complete it during the National Day-Malaysia Day celebrations so that Malaysia can begin to return to normality and work on economic recovery by the fourth quarter of the year

I am disappointed that nothing has been done with regard to my suggestion two weeks ago that the National Covid-19 vaccination roll-out should be accelerated so that it could be completed very much earlier than the February 2022 schedule.
I would to reiterate my call for the country to embark on an ambitious plan to accelerate the National Covid-19 vaccination roll-out and complete it during the National Day-Malaysia Day celebrations from August 31st – September 16, 2021 so that Malaysia can begin to return to normality and work on economic recovery by the fourth quarter of the year.
Yesterday, the Health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said so far a total of 321,331 individuals have received their first vaccine dose under phase one of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme. Read the rest of this entry »

I presume that the omnibus Muhyiddin Cabinet still meets very Wednesday.
If so, I hope there will be Ministers who will propose the immediate suspension of harsh, disproportionate and ill-considered emergency legislation purportedly to combat the Covid-19 pandemic but is doing the very opposite – forfeiting public support for the government’s efforts to bring the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic under control, so that we can return initially to three-digit and then to double-digit daily increase of new Covid-19 cases.

How can the government survey to gauge the public’s response to the fake news ordinance serve any purpose or contribute to the removal of the deficit of public trust and confidence when instead of putting the horses before the cart, the government is putting the cart before the horses? Re-strategise so that Malaysia can be one of the better-performing countries in the war against Covid-19 pandemic

Just a year ago, on March 11 last year, when there were 118,000 Covid-19 cases globally in 114 countries, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Covid-19 as a pandemic.
A year later, global total of Covid-19 cases have increased over 1,000 times to breach the 120 million mark and has affected 219 countries and territories, taking a heavy toll on societies and economies.
The United States remain the world’s top country with over 30 million Covid-19 cases and over 546,000 fatalities, while Brazil has just overtaken India as the world’s second country with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases – close to 11.5 million Covid-19 cases and over 277,000 fatalities. Why is the Attorney-General Tan Sri Idris Harun evading the question whether he would prosecute anyone for alleging that the emergency was declared because the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had lost the majority in Parliament.
This question has become pertinent because of two contradictory statements by Cabinet Ministers: firstly, the assurance by the Communication and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah yesterday that the government will differentiate between criticism and fake news; and secondly, the statement by the de facto Law Minister, Takiyuddin Hassan in an earlier joint press conference with Saifuddin that it would be a criminal offence under Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021 for anyone to allege that Muhyiddin had an emergency declared because he had lost majority in Parliament and would be liable to be fined up to RM100,000, jailed up to three years or both.

According to the de facto Minister, Takiyuddin Hassan yesterday, it would be a criminal offence under Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021 for anyone to allege that the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had an emergency declared because he had lost majority in Parliament and would be liable to be fined up to RM100,000, jailed up to three years or both.
Is this the law of the land although the issue has to be decided by the Courts and not by the de facto Law Minister.
In any event, in view of the statement by the de facto Law Minister, the Attorney-General Tan Sri Idris Harun should make his position clear, whether he would prosecute any person under the Emergency Ordinance for alleging that the proclamation of emergency was made because Muhyiddin had lost his majority in Parliament. The cat is out of the bag – to allege that the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had an emergency declared because he has lost majority in Parliament is now a criminal offence under Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021 and can be fined up to RM100,000, a jail term of up to three years or both.
This was admitted no less by the de facto Law Minister, Takiyuddin Hassan, who said at a joint press conference that claiming that the government sought an emergency declaration because it lost its majority in the Dewan Rakyat violates the fake news ordinance.

I welcome the statement by the Co-coordinating Minister for National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin that he has spoken to inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador on the issue of whistle-blowers who expose shortcomings in the ongoing vaccination exercise with regard to the emergency ordinance on fake news pertaining to Covid-19 and the emergency proclamation.
This raises seven important questions:
First, whether and when the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021 – which came into effect today and provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, a jail term of up to three years or both, for those who create, publish or distribute fake news – was presented to the Cabinet for approval? Is the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia (one of the longest in the world) finally coming under control?

The reported daily increase of 1,529 Covid-19 cases yesterday is an additional sign that the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia (one of the longest in the world) is finally coming under control.
The 1,529-cases increase is not only the lowest this year but harks back to 27th December when the daily increase was 1196 cases, as well as to the month of December, the fourth month of the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, when for 24 days the daily increase was less than 2,000 cases, and better still, for two days the daily increase was in three-digit figures.
Can Malaysians hope that the daily increase of Covid-19 cases will be in three-digit figures? Malaysians can only keep their fingers crossed. Read the rest of this entry »
Malaysia must re-strategise to stop being one of the worst performing countries in ASEAN and Asia in the war against Covid-19 pandemic

In the latest monthly Bloomberg Covid Resilience Ranking at the end of February 2021, Malaysia ranked lower than Singapore (3), China (6), Taiwan (7), South Korea (8), Japan (9), Thailand (10), Hong Kong (13), Israel (14), UAE (15), India (16), Saudi Arabia (17), Vietnam (18) as Malaysia is ranked No. 23 in the index.
Malaysia fell seven places from the January ranking, when we were ranked No. 16, but we still then lost to Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, UAE, South Korea, Thailand and Israel and was only ahead of India and Saudi Arabia.

The reported 1,680 new Covid-19 cases yesterday is the fifth day in the last 14 days since Feb. 25 when the daily new cases first fell below the 2,000-mark – the daily increase on Feb. 25 was 1,924 cases.
The last time the daily increase of new Covid-19 case was below 2,000 cases was in January 4, 2021, when it registered an increase of 1,741 cases.

I have just seen a WhatsApp message which has gone to the core of the problem why Malaysians are so polarised and divided, why Malaysia is losing out in the vision to become a world-class great nation and why Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, must unite against the politics of hate, lies, falsehoods and fear which are the greatest enemies of making Malaysia a great world-class nation.
This WhatsApp message said:

The United States President Joe Biden has announced a two-month acceleration of the American national Covid-19 vaccination roll-out promising that there will be enough coronavirus vaccine doses for “every adult in America by the of the end of May, shortening the earlier July timeline.

What is unusual and abnormal about the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s anniversary telecast is his failure to act on the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s advice that an emergency does not preclude the convening of Parliament.
On Feb. 25, the Yang di Pertuan Agong said the Parliament sitting can convene during the emergency.
This is enshrined in subparagraph 14(1)(b) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021 which states that Parliament should be called, prorogued and dissolved on a date as deemed appropriate by His Majesty on the advice of the prime minister. Read the rest of this entry »

The Covid-19 pandemic has wrought unmitigated damage on the lives and economy of Malaysia and the world for the past year, and Malaysia, like the rest of the world, must do the utmost to make a success of the national vaccination programme to ensure that life can return to normal in the shortest time possible.
