Reply to Thayaparan: I will never launder Najib’s reputation

(Versi BM)

Yesterday, I issued a short five-paragraph statement which tantamounts to a declaration that I will never launder Najib Razak’s reputation, and it is a pity that S. Thayaparan, who wrote COMMENT piece “Kit Siang helps Najib launder his reputation” today did not read or chose to ignore the statement.

An example that I will never launder Najib’ reputation was what happened in the Johore state general election early this year, where I said that the DAP MP Damansara Tony Pua went too far in attacking the Foon Yew school board of governors but he was right in condemning Najib Razak in using Foon Yew to exculpate his kleptocracy. My media statements reflect my political views and has nothing to do with the DAP leadership, as I have retired from competitive politics and no more in the political front-line

(Versi BM)

I have a message for the Malaysian public. My media statements reflect my political views and has nothing to do with the DAP leadership, as I have retired from competitive politics and no more in the political front-line.

I can understand the horror of some Malaysians at my statement on Sunday that I was prepared to work with Najib Razak for the good the country and not for a portion of the 1MDB riches but first all, Najib must condemn the 1MDB scandal and declare his stand against Malaysia becoming a kleptocracy. I am prepared to work with Najib Razak for the good of the country not for a portion of the 1MDB riches but first of all he must condemn the 1MDB scandal and declare his stand against Malaysia becoming a kleptocracy

(Versi BM)

In my six decades of political life, I have always been guided by the view that human personalities must not be seen in pure black and white but in different shades of grey.

There are no angels among men and women but it is wrong see anyone as the very embodiment of evil. Read the rest of this entry »

Has Tok Mat bitten off more than he could chew?

(Versi BM)

Has UMNO Deputy President Mohamad Hasan bitten off more than he could chew in his interview with Asia Times, which is not helped by the explanation of the newest UMNO Supreme Council member, Isham Jalil, that Tok Mat was merely preparing himself for the worst-case scenario in Najib Razak’s corruption trlal.

Tok Mat is correct about the right of everyone to a fair trial but this cannot hide the fact that his protest that he had been misquoted as saying that Najib should go to jail for his role in the 1MDB scandal is not confirmed by anyone listening to the full tape recording. Strange things happening now in BN and UMNO

(Versi BM)

Strange things are happening now in Barisan Nasional and UMNO.

Firstly, the bombshell of the sacked UMNO Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman that a group of senior and influential UMNO leaders had met in his house in 2020 and agreed that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should go as UMNO President and brokered a deal that would see Zahid step down amicably but UMNO Deputy President Mohamad Hasan and former Prime Minister/UMNO President Najib Razak later reneged and backed off. Why Barisan Nasional parties of UMNO, MCA and MIC continue to glorify kleptocracy in Malaysia?

(Versi BM)

Yesterday, I asked when will UMNO, MCA and MIC condemn the monstrous mega multi-billion ringgit financial scandals like the 1MDB scandal and stop glorifying “kleptocracy at its worst” in Malaysia?

I said that the most important question in Malaysia today is not who will win the next general election but whether Malaysia will become a failed state before Malaysia’s Centennial in four decades from now – whether we continue in the present trajectory of kleptocracy or jump-start the nation-building process by getting into a new trajectory and return to the nation-building policies and principles agreed to by the founding fathers of the nation and enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara. UMNO “implosion” over what is right and wrong has taken more than four years to occur

(Versi BM)

The UMNO “implosion” over what is right and wrong has taken more than four years to occur.

I had asked last month whether there was nobody in UMNO who dared to say that UMNO should not seek the return of Najib Razak as Prime Minister as his years as Prime Minister when Malaysia became “kleptocracy at its worst” worldwide was nothing to be proud of.

Now it appears that I was both right and wrong.

There may not be a multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal equated as “kleptocracy at its worst” if the recommendations of the Ahmad Nordin Bumiputera Malaysia Finance (BMF) Inquiry Committee had been acted on by the 1986 Mahathir government

(Versi BM)

There may not be a multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal equated as “kleptocracy at its worst” if the recommendations of the Ahmad Nordin Bumiputera Malaysia Finance (BMF) Inquiry Committee had been acted on by the 1986 Mahathir government.

This thought struck me when I read Chooi Mun Sou’s memoirs – “Malaysia My Home – Quo Vadis”. Read the rest of this entry »

Most proper, honourable and patriotic thing Najib Razak could do is to renounce any political comeback as Prime Minister to save the country from any global embarrassment

(Versi BM)

I commend the forthright, appropriate, patriotic and courageous statement by the MP for Pasir Gudang, Hassan Abdul Karim following the outstanding speech by the Yang di Pertuan Agong that all religions denounce corruption which is a “cancer that can ruin civilisations” at the convocation ceremony of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam.

There is nothing more appropriate now than to remind Malaysians of the bane of corruption, in view of the following developments:

Even Tun Razak will not believe in Najib’s explanation of innocence of corruption

I believe the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Razak, will not believe in Najib Razak’s explanation of innocence of corruption.

I believe in the innocence of Lim Guan Eng in the corruption charges against him.

Would Tun Razak, if alive today, believe in his son’s plea of innocence of corruption?

Malaysia Anti-Corruption Forum 2022 has raised even more questions about anti-corruption campaign in Malaysia

(Versi BM)

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Forum 2022 has raised even more questions about the anti-corruption campaign in Malaysia.

Former chief justice Mohamad Raus Sharif at the third Malaysia Anti-Corruption Forum said that the appointment of a politician as the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had cast doubt on its credibility.

Why in the last decade nobody had emerged to testify on the identity of the Arab royalty donor of the funds in Najib’s accounts?

Judge Azimah Omar yesterday gave a great judgement in former Attorney-General Apandi Ali’s defamation suit against me.

Although I have won the defamation suit instituted by the former Attorney-General, I still intrigued by the thought why in the last decade, nobody had emerged to testify as to the identity of the Arab royalty donor who gave the funds in ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts. Is there nobody in UMNO who dare say that UMNO should not seek the return of Najib as Prime Ministe and that his years as Prime Minister when Malaysia became “kleptocracy at its worst” worldwide is not something to be proud of

(Versi BM)

Yesterday, I said Malaysians need new political aspirations, and “If Najib loves Malaysia, he will contribute to this process of returning Malaysia to the founding nation-building principles our founding fathers, including his father, had agreed when Malaysia was founded – and helped remove the national scar where Malaysia was identified with ‘kleptocracy at its worst’ worldwide”.

I suggested that ”there is nothing that Najib can do better than to just disappear from the political arena instead trying to be Prime Minister again”.

I am prepared to go to jail for warning Malaysia not to become another Sri Lanka but is Najib prepared to go to jail for Malaysia’s infamy, ignominy or iniquity worldwide as “kleptocracy at its worst”?

(Versi BM)

The Police have started investigation under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for making a statement with the intention to incite anyone or race and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1988 for improper use of network facilities or network service for my statement warning Malaysia not be become a Sri Lanka.

Section 505 © of the Penal Code on “Statements conducing to public mischief” states that “ Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report with intent to incite or which is likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to two years or with fine or with both”. The travails of the Philippines and Sri Lanka should be followed closely by the people of Malaysia if we are to learn from the lessons of Philippines or Sri Lanka to become a world-class great nation by Malaysia’s Centennial

(Versi BM)

It has been reported that the police had begun an investigation for incitement over a tweet about public unrest in Sri Lanka over a blog posting on my website.

I have already explained that I had no intention to incite any unrest in Malaysia but to warn of the dangers of allowing the political and socio-economic conditions in Malaysia to deteriorate as happened in Sri Lanka for over half a century as to become a failed state. Najib is up to his tricks again, encouraged by Marcos Jr’s presidential electoral success in the Philippines, spreading false allegation against his opponents by his army of cybertroopers

(Versi BM)

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak is up to his tricks again, encouraged by Marcos Junior’s presidential electoral success in the Philippines, spreading false allegation against his opponents by his army of cybertroopers.

He accused me of inciting the Malaysian public by questioning whether Malaysia will suffer the same fate as Sri Lanka, when I asked whether the houses of the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Malaysia will be set on fire by angry protestors as happened in Sri Lanka last week. Philipines presidential election on Monday will have interesting bearing on the forthcoming 15GE in Malaysia

(Versi BM)

When Filipino voters go to the polls for the Philippines Presidential election on Monday, it will have interesting bearing on the forthcoming 15th General Election in Malaysia.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Filipino journalist Maria Ressa has said that the Philippines presidential election is “a microcosm of a global battle for facts” as he quoted author Milan Kundera: “The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting”.

PAC Deputy Chair has passed the “death sentence” on my proposal that PAC investigate the 2002 Scorpene submarine corruption case and to establish the motive of the murder of Mongolian, Altantuya Shaariibuu

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairperson Azizah Mohd Dun has passed the “death sentence” on my proposal that the PAC investigate the 2002 Scorpene submarine corruption case and to establish the motive of the murder of the Mongolian, Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Yesterday, Azizah Mohd Dun, the PAC deputy chairperson, dismissed the call for her committee to probe the Scorpene submarine deal and Altantyunya’s murder. Read the rest of this entry »

Would Najib agree that it would be a disservice to the legacy of public integrity of his father, the second Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Razak, not to wipe out the infamy of Malaysia as a kleptocracy?

(Versi BM)

Former Prime Minister, Najib Razak claimed that the Pakatan Harapan government investigation in 2018 did not find any evidence that he was involved in the 2002 Scorpene submarine deal, adding that it was a part of the opposition’s propaganda to tarnish his image.

I was never in the Pakatan Harapan government and I was not privy to any information as to the outcome of any investigation as to whether Najib, who was the Defence Minister in 2002, was involved in the 2002 Scorpene submarine scandal as I never asked the then Prime Minister, Attorney-General, the Inspector General of Police or Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) about the matter. Malaysia must be a responsible member of the international community of nations by putting to rest two grand corruption scandals – firstly, the Scorpene submarine scandal and murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and secondly, the 1MDB scandal

(Versi BM)

Malaysia must be a responsible member of the international community of nations by putting to rest two grand corruption scandals – firstly, the Scorpene submarine scandal and the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and secondly, the 1MDB scandal.

I suggested yesterday that the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) should investigate the 2002 Scorpene submarine corruption case and the murder of Altantunya Shaariibuu following the charging of the French company Thales by the French Government for complicity in bribery of the Scorpene submarine deal in Malaysia two decades ago and that the PAC can do so under Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders 77(d) which provides that the PAC can examine “(d) such other matters as the Committee may think fit, or which may be referred to the Committee by the House.”
