I will not be able to attend the Johore DAP State Convention in Batu Pahat on Sunday, May 2, 2021 as I am in Covid-19 quarantine for 10 days from April 30 to May 9.
I would therefore be unable to cast my vote at the Johore DAP State Elections.

I have called on DAP cadres and members at all levels and throughout the country to unite and rally behind the party for Pakatan Harapan to achieve a new high point in the 15th General Election as well as to safeguard the party against external forces which are trying to split and destroy it.

I want to make a special call to DAP cadres at all levels and throughout the country to unite and rally behind the party for Pakatan Harapan to achieve a new high point in the 15th General Election as well as to safeguard the party against external forces which are trying to split and destroy it.
This call from Pekan Nenas is particularly meaningful because this “pineapple town” was one of the two state constituencies in Tanjong Piai, and at the end of 2019, the Pakatan Harapan candidate was given a thrashing in the Tanjong Piai by-election.
Pakatan Harapan was crushed in the Tanjong Piai by-election, with the Barisan Nasional candidate winning with a thumping majority of 15,086 votes. BN secured 25,466 votes, Pakatan Harapan 10,380 votes, while Gerakan and Berjasa candidates and another two independent candidates all forfeited their deposits as they failed to secure one-eighth of the total votes cast. I was coming up from Pekan Nenas and on the way I was thinking about this book-launch when a thought struck me.
Fifty years ago, one Malaysian ringgit was equivalent to one Singapore dollar. Now, it is S$1 to RM3. What will it be like in 2050 or 2070? Will be it 1:4, 1:5 or even 1:6? Why no one is thinking it could be the other way round, to be 1:3, 1:2 or even 1:1?
That in essence is the substance of the Malaysian Dream – how we can be a united world-class great nation or whether our fate is to just to plunge on to become a failed state!
Do we lack resources, talent, brain-power or whatever and destined to lose out to Singapore? Read the rest of this entry »

Until recently, the DAP has not only proved that it is the only major political party whose 42 Members of Parliament have remained intact, solid and united, spurning the “frog” culture, but the party as a whole had been purposive, disciplined and forward-looking, working for the best interests of the people and nation. If I want to betray my principles for justice, freedom, integrity and Malaysian Dream, I should have done it fifty years ago in the 1970s when I could become a Cabinet Minister in my late twenties or early thirties and not wait until I am eighty years old!

I am in the rare situation for a Malaysian – accused by extremist and irresponsible Malay politicians as anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Royalty on the one hand and by extremist and irresponsible Chinese politicians on the other as having betrayed the Malaysian Chinese rights, position and future on the other.
At present, I am probably more attacked on the Chinese social and mass media in Malaysia of having sold out the rights, position and future of the Malaysian Chinese than in the Malay social and mass media for being anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Royalty. Read the rest of this entry »

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad yesterday explained his “DAP sometimes extreme” remark which became fodder for those who are out to tar the DAP leadership and me has having sold out Chinese rights and interests.

I said a few days ago that Pakatan Harapan must learn the lessons from the 22-month Pakatan Harapan Government whose five-year mandate was cut short by the Sheraton Move conspiracy which brought in a backdoor, undemocratic and illegitimate government and one lesson is to be more aware of power of lies, falsehood, fake news and disinformation.
I have denied that DAP has any de-Chinese, de-Malay, de-Indian, de-Kadazan or de-Iban policy, as it is very opposite of what the DAP is trying to do – that Malaysians will have multiple identities, ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural, regional, but their common overriding identity must be that of a Malaysian. I will contest the DAP Central Executive Committee election in June this year and am prepared to be defeated in a party election where I have given over 55 years of my life in pursuit of the Malaysian Dream.
I am not aiming for any front-line leadership position.
I want to reiterate that DAP does not advocate any de-Chinese, de-Malay, de-Indian, de-Kadazan or de-Iban policy. We stand for the very opposite, as we want Malaysians to accept that Malaysians will have multiple identities – ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural, regional – but first and foremost that they are all Malaysians. Five years ago, on June 18, 2016, Pakatan Harapan lost badly in two parliamentary by-elections – one in Sungai Besar and the other in Kuala Kangsar.
The Pakatan Harapan candidate in Sungai Besar by-election, Azhar Abdul Shukor of Amanah lost by a majority of 9,191 votes while in Kuala Kangsar, Ahmad Termizi Ramli of Amanah lost by a majority of 6,969 votes. Read the rest of this entry »

There is a lot of thunder and lightning on the Malaysian political scene and the country is undergoing unprecedented number of political intrigues and conspiracies.
But they are not wrestling with the most important issue in Malaysia – which is how to establish a government which is dedicated to fulfilling the Malaysian Dream to restore the national aspiration to become a world-class great nation.
When we achieved Merdeka in 1957, our economy, education, judiciary and civil service, and in some sports, were among the best in the world, but the past six decades we have slipped behind one country after another in these fields while Malaysia had become infamous in areas which would have embarrassed our founding fathers – like becoming “kleptocracy at its worst”!

DAP had never been extremist unless the Malaysian Dream where every citizen is Malaysian first before his or her ethnic, religious or other identities is “extremist”.
The Malaysian Constitution and the Rukun Negara are the basis of the Malaysian plural society, based on constitutional monarchy, federalism, parliamentary democracy, the separation of powers, the rule of law, good governance, public integrity, respect for human right, religious freedom and tolerance.
How far we have veered from these moderate and middle-of-the-road practices is illustrated by the sad fact that we have now Cabinet Ministers who do not subscribe to the nation-building principles spelt out in the Constitution and the Rukun Negara. Read the rest of this entry »

I am overawed and overwhelmed by this Impian Theatre project which is the product of a two-year labour of love, solidarity and idealism of Datuk K.Y. Chan, Tony Pua, the curators, Kenny Teng and Wendy Chang, and the 80 artists from all races and religions in Malaysia for their 100 artworks, and in particular the commemorative publication by Tony Pua, “A Malaysian Artists’ Visual Biography of Lim Kit Siang” with a most creative “Pied Piper” artwork by Jeganathan Ramachandran.
The 55 years in Malaysian politics since the end of 1965 had been quite a journey in pursuit of the Malaysian Dream.

On the 118th birthday anniversary of Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman, three quotes from him came to mind.
They are:
“We are all Malaysians. This is the bond that unites us. Let us always remember that unity is our fundamental strength as a people and as a nation.”
“We must each always think first of Malaysia, of the national need and least of ourselves …Everyone must try to help and see that the people are one-minded, with loyalty and one aim, to make Malaysia – the land we love – a happy abode for all of us. If we all do this then we can guarantee liberty, security, prosperity and happiness for the future.”
“All talk on Islamic States is just an empty dream. No man in his right sense would accept a nation which bases its political administration on religion, and in a country like Malaysia with its multi-racial and multi-religious people, there is no room for an Islamic State.”
Mahathir wrong when he said that without his help, DAP could not get more than 18 seats as DAP won 24 parliamentary seats in 1986, 20 in 1990, 28 in 2008 and 38 in 2013 before winning 42 seats in 2018

In his interview with China Press, former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said: “I had helped the opposition to win (in GE14) because I brought in Malay support. You know DAP, which could never get more than 18 seats, get 42 seats because of the Malay support I brought in”.

Today is the last day of Dewan Rakyat proceeding on which a lot of hope had been invested and lost – whether the country can redeem itself to have a government which is legitimate with the people’s mandate, and not illegitimate and established through the backdoor.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had survived the confidence test in Parliament by a razor-thin majority but he has not won the confidence of Malaysians or the international community. Read the rest of this entry »
