I have just returned from Kampong Bakuku in Sabah and I would not be surprised if you have not heard of this kampong, as I was not aware of it until I visited it in Tenom near the Sabah/Sarawak border yesterday, for Impian Malaysia is having a three-day medical camp for the villagers in the surrounding kampongs.

I take this opportunity to announce my political retirement and I will not contest for any position, including the party CEC today – you should delete No. 39 from the CEC candidate list) – or any parliamentary or state assembly seat.
I have been with the party for 56 years – two days ago was the DAP’s 56th anniversary – and have seen it develop from a small opposition party which fought the first general election in 1969 into a major political party in the Pakatan Harapan coalition which won the 14th General Election in 2018 and formed the government in seven states.

If a convicted criminal on corruption can become the 10th or 11th Prime Minister of Malaysia, then China and Indonesia can overtake Malaysia in TI CPI by 2025 or latest before 2030

If a convicted criminal on corruption can become the 10th or 11th Prime Minister of Malaysia, then China and Indonesia can overtake Malaysia in Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by 2025 or latest before 2030.
This will definitely be the end of the Malaysian Dream of the country being a world-class great nation, better than China, Indonesia and India in many fields of human endeavour because Malaysia is able to leverage on the best values and virtues of the four great civilisations which meet in confluence in Malaysia – Malay/Islamic. Chinese, Indian and Western.

The third DAP wave in Sarawak
The new Sarawak state committee elected yesterday will be responsible for launching the third DAP wave in Sarawak for a better Sarawak and a better Malaysia.
The first DAP wave in Sarawak which started under the founding Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Siew Chiang took 18 years from 1978 to 1996, and finally, achieved the breakthrough of having three Sarawak State Assemblymen elected into the Sarawak State Assembly – Wong Ho Leng (Bukit Assek), Wong Sing Nang (Pelawan) and Wong Sing Ai (Kidurong). Sarawak DAP did poorly in the Sarawak state general election held last month.
I am disappointed with the results of the Sarawak state general elections as apart from Pandungan and Pending, I had expected DAP to win Kota Sentosa, Bukit Assek, Pelawan, Tanjong Batu and Pujut.
The Sarawak DAP should find out the reasons for the poor performance and the serious setback in the Sarawak state general election but even more important, focus on preparing for the forthcoming 15th General Election in Malaysia which should be held this year. Read the rest of this entry »

An elected representative who is doing a Masters programme in a local university asked me yesterday what I thought of the New Economic Policy.
I spoke about the New Economic Policy in my first speech in Parliament 51 years ago in February 1971 where I declared that the DAP supported affirmative policies to help the poor and the backward but it must be based on need but not on race.
I said that the DAP is “dedicated to the abolition of poverty and economic backwardness regardless of race” and that we want to create a “classless community of Malaysians based on fellowship, co-operation and service, where there is no exploitation of man by man, class by class or race by race”. The unanimous two-thirds majority in Parliament on Tuesday, 14th December 2021 for the passage of the 2021 Constitution Amendment Bill is historic but it is only the first step to restore to Sabah and Sarawak their rights and status fully agreed by the Malaysia Agreement in 1963
For half-a-century, the people of Sabah and Sarawak were denied their rights to full Malaysian citizenship, such as their rights to equitable financial allocations, true state autonomy especially on education and health, fair apportionment of oil funds and right to development resources were neglected. GPS leaders cannot completely blame the Federal Government for the 1976 Constitution Amendment Act which placed Sarawak at a considerable disadvantage for half-a-century as the Barisan Nasional Sarawak government leaders had fully voted for the 1976 Constitution Amendment Act and must bear half the responsibility for the “stepchild” treatment of Sarawak for the past half-century. There are people who say that a new dawn has come to Sarawak with the passage of the 2021 Constitution Amendment Bill by the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, undoing the injustices of the 1976 Constitution Amendment Act which reduced Sarawak to one of the 13 Malaysian states when it was one of the three entities with Sabah and Malaya which formed Malaysia in 1963.
I do not agree. We want a new dawnn for Sarawak, but a new dawn for Sarawak has not arrived yet. It is a work-in-progress. What happened in Parliament on Tuesday is only the first step to bring about a new dawn for Sarawak, after half-a-century of nightfall! Read the rest of this entry »

I will interrupt my campaigning for Pakatan Harapan in the Sarawak general election and fly back to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to vote in Parliament on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2021 to undo the Constitutional Amendment 45 years ago to restore to Sarawak its rights under the Malaysia Act 1963.
When the 1976 Constitutional Amendment Bill was voted in Parliament on 13th July 1976, it was carried by 130 votes supporting and nine votes opposing – all the nine votes came from DAP which included myself. Those who supported the Constitution Amendment in 1976 which reduced Sarawak and Sabah from a region comparable to Peninsular Malaysia to one of the 13 states in Malaysia included all the Sarawak Barisan Nasional leaders, like two MPs who became Sarawak Chief Minister and Sarawak Yang di Pertua, Abdul Rahman Yaacob and Taib Mahmud, SUPP leaders Ong Kee Hui and Stephen Yong and SNAP leaders Edmund Langgu, Patrick Uren and Luhat Wan. Dream for Malaysia to be an united and plural, world-class great nation.
I have gone through many ups and downs, having been twice detained under the infamous Internal Security Act, arrested numerous times and hauled to court under the Official Secrets Act, the Police Act and other charges, suspended from Parliament and demonised as anti-Malay, anti-Chinese, anti-Indian and even anti-Malaysian, of having caused May 13, 1969 riots although I was never in Kuala Lumpur during the whole time, and being a secret agent of CIA, KGB, MI6, the Australian secret service but strangely never accused as being secret agent of Singapore Special Branch.

The UMNO leadership will be tempted by the Malacca general election results to tear up the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Prime Minister Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan to rush for the 15th General Election for the country to held as early as possible, even early 2022.
This is because based on the Malacca general election results, UMNO and BN will be able to take over the Federal government on its own, and may regain two-thirds majority in Parliament and even free the top UMNO leaders from corruption charges if the 15th General Elections is held in early 2022. The Malacca General Election is the most extraordinary of the 22 general elections in my experience in the last 56 years – an election where all forms of physical campaigning are banned.
I have gone through 12 national general elections, nine Sarawak state general elections and countless by-elections but this is the first time that we have an election where there are no public rallies, ceramahs, talks and walkabouts – which put the Opposition parties at a great disadvantage.

Two days ago, I visited the Sam Tiong Keng temple in Semabok, Malacca which is in the Banda Hilir state constituency where we are fielding Malacca DAPSY Deputy Chief Leong Chau Yan.
I was in for a surprise as the main historic figure the temple was dedicated to was Wen Tianxiang, the poet-politician of the Southern Song dynasty, who chose death instead of betrayal of his loyalty to Kublai Khan and the Yuan dynasty.

I have said that Ismail Sabri, the ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia, is the weakest Prime Minister in Malaysian history, and this is confirmed by Kedah Mentri Besar’s action banning gambling in Kedah.
Ismail Sabri should clarify whether his “Keluarga Malaysia” includes a ban on gambling and liquor in Malaysia and the withdrawal of support for the five Rukun Negara nation-building principles of belief in God, loyalty to King and country, supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and courtesy and morality.
