A Tale of Two Cities — Wuhan and New York

CNN news headlined: “Thousands packed the streets to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Wuhan, where the coronavirus first emerged, as other cities worldwide were deserted”.
This is the modern story of “A Tale of Two Cities”, the historical novel by Charles Dickens which I studied in the literature class when I was Form IV in Batu Pahat High School in 1958.

On 24th April 2020, I suggested the establishment of a Covid-19 Pandemic Study Centre to learn from the successes and mistakes of other nations so that we can be effective and efficient in our war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his live New Year message, the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed five priorities for the year 2021 in an integrated national recovery strategy post Covid-19.

We entered the New Year with the Covid-19 pandemic raging its worst stage in Malaysia and the world, registering on the last day of 2020 a record-high daily increase in Malaysia of 2,525 new Covid-19 cases, while the world registers a record-high daily increase of over 740,000 new Covid-19 cases.

In his interview with China Press, former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said: “I had helped the opposition to win (in GE14) because I brought in Malay support. You know DAP, which could never get more than 18 seats, get 42 seats because of the Malay support I brought in”.
