The voters of Sabah go to the polls today to decide not only who will be the Chief Minister of Sabah but the future of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

No Prime Minister has campaigned so hard in the Sabah state general election as Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He never visited Sabah in his first six months of office as the illegitimate eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia.

But for the Sabah state general election, he visited Sabah four times, the first time before state election campaign on 29 and 30th August and thrice during election campaign from Sept. 12 to 26.

The 2020 Sabah state general election is now coming to an end, and I provide a summary of a dozen reasons in the unprecedented state polls on Saturday, 26th September 2020 as to why the Warisan Plus slate of candidates should be fully supported. The dozen cases are:

1, There should not be a Sabah state general election. It as a plot gone wrong, which engineered the “frog jumping” of 13 Sabah State Assemblymen to capture and take-over the Sabah State Government and not to hold a Sabah state general election. But Shafie Apdal was one step ahead of the plotters and the political frogs – which is why there is a Sabah state general election. Sabah voters should prove that Shafie was for the second time ahead of the plotters in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur by solidly voting for Warisan Plus on Saturday to win with a two-thirds majority in Sabah State Assembly. Just as the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) must be observed if we are to win the war in the Covid 19 pandemic, there is a SOP for building a successful Sabah and Malaysia – unity and inclusivity, and not the poisonous and negative politics of race and religion engendering fake news and lies to create hate and fear in our society.

In the Sabah general election, the Warisan Plus has a manifesto which provides a SOP for a New Sabah where Sabah abandon the reputation as the poorest state in the country 57 after the founding of Malaysia – worse than Kelantan, the poorest state in Peninsular Malaysia – and where the state’s rich natural resources will be used to improve the infrastructure facilities of Sabah and abolish the backwardness of the most remote areas – no need for the Veveonah Mosibins of Sabah to spend 24 hours on a treetop to gain better Internet connectivity to sit for an online exam – instead of enriching the coffers of the corrupt and the powerful and where there is unity and harmony among the various ethnic groups, languages, religions and cultures in the country.

I was shocked and even somewhat angry to learn that PBS had given away Tambunan, its sacred founding place in 1985, and conceded that STAR has more influence in Tambunan than PBS in a truce agreement this afternoon arranged by the Home Minister, Hamzah Zainuddin.

I am not a member of PBS, but in 1985 and 1986, I had spoken up in Parliament and outside in support and defence of PBS, and at that time, Tambunan assumed national fame and importance as the place where ordinary voters stood up against injustice and oppression.

With four days to go to polling, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) have finally reached a partial truce beginning in at least two state seats.

As both the Pairin brothers , Joseph and Jeffrey, have accused each other of selling out KDM (Kadazan, Dusun and Murut) interests on the issue of illegal immigrants, does the partial truce between PBS and Star mean that they now agree that they have both betrayed the KDM constituencies?

The second question is equally intriguing.

The first time I visited Sabah was on that fateful day on May 13, 1969, and down the decades for some 50 years, I had been accused of having caused the May 13, 1969 riots in Kuala Lumpur and led illegal processions through the streets of Kuala Lumpur although I was in Sabah and was never in Kuala Lumpur at the time.

I was speaking at an unprecedentedly huge public rally in Kota Kinabalu on the evening of May 13, 1969 when somebody whispered to me from the backstage that trouble had broken out in Kuala Lumpur – that was the first time I heard about the May 13, 1969 riots in Kuala Lumpur.

At the Kota Kinabalu public rally, I criticised the authoritarian ways of the then Sabah Chief Minister, Tun Mustapha and he issued an expulsion order for me to leave Sabah the next morning.

First of all, let me congratulate Syed Saddiq for showing the way that Malaysia needs new thinking, that we must be colour-blind and cannot be bound by narrow views about nation-building, that we cannot and should not imprison ourselves by racial or religious exclusivity.

Syed Saddiq is forming a political party of youths.

But youth is a state of mind. There are young people who have very old thinking and old people with very youthful ideas.

The solar power system for Tamu Sangadau in Kepayan is evidence of the DAP and Warisan Plus’ commitment to help the ordinary people in the country.

It was yesterday revealed that according to the Statistics Department, Sabah has the highest poverty rate in the country last year at 19.5 per cent when the national poverty rate was only 5.6%, and that about 40 per cent of the indigenous people in the State are poor or below the Poverty Line Income (PGK).

Tongod, Pitas and Kota Marudu are among the poorest districts in the country with poverty at about 50 per cent.

Women in Sabah and Malaysia should rise up to demand apology and accountability from Bung Moktar for his insults and attacks on the dignity and role of women in Malaysia – Bung’s greatest contribution in his 21 years in Parliament – as Sabah UMNO wants him to be Sabah Chief Minister.

I said in Kepayan last night that Sabahans will not be able to lift their heads high, whether in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world if foul-mouth Bung Moktar, who even uses four-letter words in Parliament and was most well known for his utterances which insult the dignity of women in Parliament, becomes Sabah Chief Minister.

DAP women Members of Parliament have been at the receiving end of Bung Moktar’s insults against womenhood in Malaysia.

Before Bung Moktar continues to be UMNO candidate for Sabah Chief Minister, let him account for his past parliamentary actions and mistakes, in particular for his insults against womanhood in Malaysia.

Yesterday, I said that in the Sabah general election, issues which had been buried for forty or fifty years had resurfaced like MA63 and Keningau Batu Sumpah.

I said that for the first time in the 57-year history of Malaysia, the Prime Minister was paying obeisance to the validity and legitimacy of Keningau Batu Sumpah.

I asked whether Muhyiddin will present the Keningau Batu Sumpah and the three commitments of “Ugama Bebas Dalam Sabah”, “Tanah Tanah dalam Sabah di kuasai oleh Kerajaan Sabah” and “Adat Istiadat anak rayat Sabah dihormatkan dan dipelihara oleh Kerajaan” to Parliament together with a motion declaring the government’s recognition and fulfilment of the three pledges engraved on the Keningau Batu Sumpah? I am most shocked that the Chairman of Sabah UMNO and one of the aspirants to be the next Sabah Chief Minister, Bung Mokhtar Radin, has great objection to the “In God we Trust, United We Must” slogan on the Shafie Apdal billboards which are put up all over Sabah.

This is most sad and tragic, especially when we are in the midst of the Golden Jubilee of the five Rukun Negara principles as the basis of nation-building for Sabah and Malaysia.

If the Malaysian Government had fully complied with the five Rukun Negara principles in the nation building of Malaysia, Sabah will not continue to be discriminated against until we have the shocking phenomenon of one of the richest states in the country where the poverty rate is the highest in all states – as Sabah’s poverty rate is even higher than Kelantan! The Sabah general election is the most unusual election in the history of Malaysia.

Firstly, for having the most number of candidates, 447candidates for 73 seats, with one seat facing a 11-cornered fight, one-seat a 10-cornered fight, three seats nine-cornered, five seats eight-cornered, 13 seats seven-cornered, 26 seats six-cornered and 15 seats five-cornered fights.

Secondly, with the most number of political frogs in the fray, whose golden moment will come when they can demand their highest price – whether monetary or political position – if the outcome of the Sabah general election is a dumb one with no political group with a clear majority to form the State Government.
