How to make the 12th Malaysia Plan a truly game-changer

In the last 50 years since 1970, when Malaysia’s Second Malaysia Plan and the New Economic Policy were launched, Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased 90 times from US$3,737bil in 1970 to US$338,286bil in 2020.

But Malaysia’s GDP has been overtaken by Singapore and Vietnam and continued to be behind Hong Kong.

Can the 12th Malaysia Plan really be a Game-Changer?

Ngeh Khoo Ham, the Member of Parliament for Bruas who was Perak DAP Chairman and former Perak State Assembly Speaker, turned 60 years old today.

He said in WhatsApp together with an old photograph of DAP leaders campaigning on the “No to 911, Also No to 929” issue twenty years ago on a pick-up truck showing among others Ngeh, Fong Po Puan (then MP for Batu Gajah), Nga Kor Ming (then State Assemblymnan for Pantai Remis and later former Deputy Speaker and MP for Teluk Intan) and myself:

DAP Branches should organise zoom or hybrid-zoom meetings to explain the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) to the Malaysian public

(Versi BM)

It is two weeks after the signing of the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu and Wilfred Madius Tangau but many people still believe that the CSR MOU was a betrayal of the principles and objectives by the Opposition leaders or that it was a “trap” by Ismail Sabri.

DAP branches should organise zoom or hybrid-zoom meetings to explain the CSR MOU so that the Malaysian public will know that that there is no basis for the belief that the MOU was a betrayal by the Opposition leaders of their principles and objectives or that it was a “trap” by Ismail Sabri. The 10-member steering committee of the CSR MOU will have a very important role to ensure integrity of Malaysia Agreement 1963 and judicial independence

The confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan leaders on Sept. 10 has given rise to very divided public opinion.

There are those who oppose the CSR MOU on the grounds that the Opposition should not betray their principles and objectives or feared that it would signify the demise of the Opposition.

Equal allocation for all MPs most welcome and hope it will usher in a more consultative and inclusive political democratic system in Malaysia

(Versi BM)

I welcome the announcement by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions), Mastura Mohd Yazid in Parliament today that both government and opposition MPs will be given equal allocation for the final four months of this year for their parliamentary constituencies.

She said that this move was in line with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri’s commitment to implement the transformation of Parliament. Read the rest of this entry »

DAP will go all out to co-operate to ensure that Malaysia wins the war against Covid-19 pandemic but we will be unsparing in our criticisms when things go wrong

(Versi BM)

The primary reason for the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan leaders is the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Worldometer website, we have beaten all the major nations in the world whether China, India, Russia, Japan, United States, United Kingdom, Indonesia or Australia in the category “Deaths in the last seven days per 1 million population” and the only states worse than Malaysia are some of the mini-states and small island nations having population of less than three million people. CSR MOU between Ismail Sabri and PH leaders not sure to fail but any failure must not stem from PH

(Versi BM)

Let me clarify what I had said at the zoom meeting with DAP Selangor leaders on Sunday: the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders last Monday is not sure to fail but any failure must not stem from the Pakatan Harapan.

There are those who thought that I had said that the CSR MOU is sure to fail. I did not say that.

But many are expecting the CSR MOU to fail but we in DAP and PH want the CSR MOU to succeed, for its success will usher in a new political landscape for Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »

CSR MOU may fail as Ismail Sabri government is not Pakatan Harapan government but any such failure must not stem from Pakatan Harapan parties not honouring their commitments under MOU

(Versi BM)

One question that is frequently asked in DAP zoom meetings throughout the country is whether the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan can fail.

Yes, the CSR MOU can fail as the Ismail Sabri government is not a Pakatan Harapan government, but any such failure must not stem from Pakatan Harapan parties not honouring their commitments under the MOU.

Why despite my mounting reservations about Ismail Sabri’s premiership in tackling the Covid-19 Pandemic and reset the country’s democratic directions, I still support the CSR MOU

Despite my mounting reservations about Ismail Sabri’s premiership in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and reset the country’s democratic direction, Malaysians should give the ninth Prime Minister a chance to acquit himself and support the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Ismail and Pakatan Harapan leaders on Monday.

The support for the CSR MOU is not for Ismail Sabri’s sake but for the sake of the country and the future. Read the rest of this entry »

DAP and PH will do their utmost to make the CSR MOU signed between Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan work although there is no guarantee that it will successfully usher Malaysia into a new political landscape

(Versi BM)

There is no guarantee that the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties will successfully usher Malaysia into a new political landscape.

The CSR MOU has evoked a whole spectrum of reactions, from a G25 spokesman and a former Treasury secretary-general in the early nineties who said there was now hope that the country will progress towards a smooth pandemic recovery as he was more confident about the country moving ahead compared to just a few days ago and saw light at the end of the tunnel to the other extreme that saw the CSR MOU as giving a life-line to those who wanted Malaysia to continue in the trajectory towards a kleptocracy, kakistocracy and a failed state. Three wishes for the 58th Malaysia Day on 16.9.2021

(Versi BM)

I have three wishes for the 58th Malaysia Day today on 16th September 2021.

Firstly, that when we celebrate our 59th Malaysia Day in 12 months’ time on 16th September 2022, there would be no doubt whatsoever that we have won the war against the Covid-19 pandemic. Read the rest of this entry »

Memorandum of Understanding on confidence-supply-reform (CSR) between Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan the most important political document in the nation’s history since the drafting of Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara

(Versi BM)

The memorandum of understanding on confidence-supply-reform (CSR) between the ninth Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan is the most important political document in the nation’s history since the drafting of the Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara.

One pertinent question is why such a memorandum of understanding had not been drawn up earlier in the nation’s history. Read the rest of this entry »

Ismail Sabri would have been defeated in his first vote on the Deputy Speakership in Parliament yesterday and which may give him the shortest tenure of premiership than Muhyiddin if not for the confidence-supply-reform MOU signed a day earlier

(Versi BM)

The ninth Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri, would have been defeated in his first vote on the Deputy Speakership in Parliament yesterday and which may give him the shortest tenure of premiership than Muhyiddin Yassin if not for the confidence-supply-reform Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan a day earlier on Monday, 13th September 2021.

But with the CSR MOU, a new political landscape had started, and the deputy speaker election was postponed to the next Parliament meeting when the Federal Constitution would be amended to create a third deputy speaker post for the opposition.

Is a historic breakthrough of a confidence-supply-reform agreement between the government and opposition in Parliament for the nation to single-mindedly focus on winning the war against the Covid-19 pandemic until the next general election an impossible goal?

(Versi BM)

Former Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin said that 2022 is the year of recovery for Malaysia.

This is like many of his statements and pronouncements when he was the eighth Prime Minister which had remained empty statements which had marked his disastrous premiership.

Take his 2021 New Year Message on Dec. 31, 2020 on five priorities for an integrated Covid recovery. Read the rest of this entry »

Possibility of confidence-supply-reform agreement between the government and opposition suffered a grievous blow and is now “up in the air” as a result of the omission of the vote of confidence motion in the parliamentary agenda next week

(Versi BM)

The possibility of reaching a confidence-supply-reform agreement between the government and the opposition suffered a grievous blow and is now “up in the air” as a result of the omission of the vote of confidence motion in the parliamentary agenda next week.

If the Yang di Pertuan Agong had changed his mind and consented not to have a confidence motion in Parliament as claimed by the new Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of law and Parliament, Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, then why was it not stated right from the very beginning instead of the most bizarre statement by the Attorney-General Idris Harun last Saturday arguing the most ridiculous point that a vote of confidence would undermine the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s powers to appoint a Prime Minster in accordance with the Malaysian Constitution? Prospects are bright for a confidence-supply-reform accord between the government and opposition to single-mindedly gain control of the Covid-19 pandemic with parliamentary and institutional reforms

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

From the comments of two Ministers, the Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin who is also the Bersatu secretary-general, and the Foreign Minister, Saifuddin Abdullah, prospects are bright for a confidence-supply-reform accord between the government and the opposition to single-mindedly gain control of the Covid-19 pandemic with parliamentary and institutional reforms.

Hamzah said Bersatu is agreeable to such an understanding between the government and the opposition to create a “new political landscape” that would bring stability to the country. Read the rest of this entry »

Call on Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or politics, to unite to win the war against Covid-19 pandemic

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

On the 63rd National Day 12 months ago, we had a cumulative total of 9,340 Covid-19 cases and 127 Covid-19 deaths.

By tomorrow’s 64th National Day, we will have close to 1.75 million Covid-19 cases and 16,500 Covid-19 deaths – a phenomenal increase of 187 times for Covid-19 cases and another phenomenal increase of 130 times for Covid-19 deaths. Read the rest of this entry »

Khairy’s greatest challenge – whether he could return Malaysia to the National Day month last year when we had only daily double-digit Covid-19 cases and single-digit Covid-19 deaths

We are now ranked No. 23 among nations with most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases, having overtaken the Czechia Republic yesterday, and we will breach the 1.7 million mark for cumulative total of Covid-19 cases and 16,000-mark for Covid-19 deaths today.

We must stop this relentless march of Covid-19 cases and Covid-19 deaths as we have fallen to the rock bottom of Bloomberg’s monthly Covid Resilience Ranking of 53 economies of more than US$200 billion, from the best ranking of 16th in January 2021 to 51st in June, 52nd in July and now 53rd in August. Three reasons why we will be marking the most bleak and grim 64th National Day in the nation’s history in three days’ time

There are three reasons why Malaysians will be marking the most bleak and grim 64th National Day in the nation’s history in three days’ time.

The first reason is that we have failed two critical tests to avoid passing the 1.7 million mark for cumulative total of Covid-19 cases and the 16,000-mark for cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths on 64th National Day on August 31, 2021 and Malaysia is ranked No. 23 among nations with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases. Malaysia must stop setting dubious new records in the Covid-19 pandemic if we are to return to normality and start on economic and national recovery

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Malaysia must stop setting dubious new records in the Covid-19 pandemic if we are to return to normality and start on economic and national recovery.

Yesterday we set three dubious new records in Covid-19 pandemic when we firstly, set new peaks for daily new Covid-19 cases (24,599 cases) and daily Covid-19 deaths (393 deaths of which 100 were BID – brought-in-dead) and secondly, Malaysia overtook Chile in having more cumulative total of Covid-19 cases and is now ranked No. 24 among nations with most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases.
