Yesterday, I said one of the signs of kakistocracy and justification for the hashtag #kerajaangagal was the disastrous manner in which the government handled communication in the war against Covid-19 pandemic, with the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
This is again illustrated with the imposition of a movement control order (MCO) for six districts in Selangor for 12 days from May 6 to 17.
Although the DAP MP for Bangi and DAP Assistant Director of Political Education, Ong Kian Ming, had cautioned on 1st May that the authorities should not announce any MCO 3.0 in the Klang Valley at the last minute without confirming the SOPs, this blunder was again repeated, resulting in confusion and anxiety all-round. #kerajaangagal20 – Communication a disaster In the war against Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia
Malaysia is struggling between bringing the third Covid wave – the longest in the world – under control by reducing the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases to triple-digit and then double-digit figures and the full flaring of the fourth Covid wave.
Everybody is scared that Malaysia may go the way of India, where a second wave has created apocalyptic horrors, with grim scenes of people dying in hospital corridors, on roads and in their homes and where car parks have been turned into cremation grounds while desperate families scramble to find oxygen, medicines and hospital beds.

The national sigh of relief because the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases had fallen below the 3,000-mark after three straight days above 3,000 and 13 straight days above 2,000 lasted briefly for a day, when it sprung back to 3,418 cases.
Is Malaysia facing the fourth Covid wave before the third Covid wave – which is already the longest in the world lasting nine months as it started last September – could be fully brought under control by first reducing the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases down to triple-digit and then to double-digit figures? For the past four days, the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech in his constituency in Bukit Gambir had stuck in my throat.
Speaking at the Gambir State Assemby-level Tahlil ceremony and presentation of Ramadan Al-Mubarak contributions at Masjid Jamek Simpang Lima Darat, Muhyuiddin said he had watched video footage of the current Covid-19 situation in India, which was quite horrific due to the spread of the more aggressive variant, that has claimed more lives. Malaysia reported 3,332 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday, the second day in a row that infections have exceeded the 3,000 mark, while for the previous 13 days, the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases were over 2,000 figures.

The RM50,000 fine for the Kota Bharu burger seller is evidence of the prevailing kakistocracy under the Muhyiddin government.
Wan Mohd Faisal Wan Kadir, 38, who operates a stall in front his house at Kampung Rambutan Rendang, Kota Bharu, was visited by the police at about 11.10 pm two nights ago when he was completing some orders and was slapped with a RM50,000 fine for operating out of permissible trading hours under the movement control order (MCO) in Kelantan.
Under the MCO rules in Kelantan, eateries can only operate until 10pm.

Yesterday was the 12th straight day where daily increase of new Covid-19 cases have logged more than 2,000 cases, bringing the cumulative total to 395,718 cases.
Malaysia is now at the crossroads of the Covid-19 pandemic, whether we are to beat down the twelve straight days of daily increases of over 2,000 cases to below the 2,000-mark or whether the daily increase of Covid-19 cases are to surge beyond the 3,000-mark to herald the full swing-arrival of the fourth Covid-19 wave in Malaysia. My #kerajaangagal6 statement is on the United States warning against travel to Malaysia because in fourth tier of countries with “very high” Covid risk, while Vietnam, Thailand, China and Taiwan are in the first tier of “very low’ risk as well as Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Cambodia in the second tier of “moderate” risk.
Malaysia is in the United States’ fourth tier of “very high” ‘Covid risk – in the company of Indonesia and Philippines, not to mention United States and the European nations which took seven places of the 10 top nations in the world with most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases.

Malaysia recorded 2,340 Covid-19 cases yesterday — the seventh straight day it has logged more than 2,000 cases, bringing the cumulative total tally to 381,813 cases.
We are ranked No. 44 among countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases, and poised to overtake Bulgaria, which is ranked No. 43 with 392,913 cases and Saudi Arabia which is ranked No. 42 with 408,038 cases.
But only 1.4% of Malaysia’s population have been fully vaccinated, as compared to 55.2% in Israel, 33% in Bahrain, 29.2% in Russia, 26.4% in the United States, 16.1% in UK – and we are behind some 75 countries with regard to the percentage of the population who are fully vaccinated. Why Malaysia now ranks as the world’s 44th country with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases when we were ranked No. 85 on Nov.11 — while China receded from No. 1 early last year to No. 95 today?

With a daily increase of 2,078 new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia has for five consecutive days breached the 2,000-mark — Sunday’s 2,195 infections, Saturday’s 2,331, Friday’s 2,551 and Thursday’s 2,148.
Malaysia’s cumulative total of Covid-19 cases now stands at 377,132, beating Slovakia to be ranked No. 44 among countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases.
In contrast, China which was the worst country in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases early last year is now ranked No. 95 with a cumulative total of 90,510 cases.
Why is China, with 50 times our population, ranked No. 95 among countries with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases, but Malaysia is ranked No. 44, especially when we were ranked No. 85 on Nov. 11 last year? Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday was the fourth day in a row where the daily increase of new Covid-19 breached the 2,000-mark, with 2,195 new Covid-19 cases, following daily increases of 2,148, 2,551 and 2,331 new cases the previous three days. The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases is 375,054.

Malaysia must pull ourselves up by the bootstraps so that we could be one of the better performing nations in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic in the year of the second vaccination phase.
We do not want the hashtag #KerajaanGagal, which trended on Twitter yesterday, reflecting Malaysians’ frustration over Perikatan Nasional (PN) government’s incompetence and kakistocracy ranging from the Covid-19 situation to the economy, to also become an international phenomenon. The East Asia and Pacific region is one of the few global bright spots in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic unlike the disastrous performance of United States and the European nations, and such a success provides many lessons on containing infectious diseases at a low cost to the economy in an era of chronic pandemics. Malaysia reported an increase of 2,148 new Covid-19 cases yesterday – the highest in 41 days.
Is Malaysia facing a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic before we could bring the third wave (which started in September last year) under control by reducing the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases to double-digit figures as in August last year?
If so, then the declaration of emergency and the suspension of Parliament on 12th January 2021 purportedly to combat a rise in Covid-19 cases has failed on two grounds:
(i) lack of constitutional scrutiny and check-and-balance of the Executive by Parliament to ensure an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic; and

No reason or excuse for Muhyiddin to refuse to advise the Yang di Pertuan Agong to convene Parliament when the third Covid-19 wave is finally coming under control after eight long months – making it one of the longest Covid-19 waves in the world!

I received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Kuala Lumpur this morning – together Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution.
The registration and vaccination against the Covid-19 pandemic must be speeded up so that the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia can be ended as early as possible to allow normality and economic recovery to be launched by the last quarter of the year.
Parliament should be convened to decide that the Covid-19 national vaccination campaign should be accelerated and completed by Malaysia Day on Sept 16. 2021 through an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” anti-Covid-19 strategy and approach. Read the rest of this entry »
