Can the 12th Malaysia Plan really be a Game-Changer?

Ngeh Khoo Ham, the Member of Parliament for Bruas who was Perak DAP Chairman and former Perak State Assembly Speaker, turned 60 years old today.
He said in WhatsApp together with an old photograph of DAP leaders campaigning on the “No to 911, Also No to 929” issue twenty years ago on a pick-up truck showing among others Ngeh, Fong Po Puan (then MP for Batu Gajah), Nga Kor Ming (then State Assemblymnan for Pantai Remis and later former Deputy Speaker and MP for Teluk Intan) and myself:

September 2021 is Malaysia’s deadliest month in Covid-19 pandemic with nearly 10,000 deaths – Khairy should not delay any longer and should explain Malaysia’s horrible Covid-19 death situation and what is being done to slow it down
September 2021 has proved to be Malaysia’s deadliest month in the Covid-19 pandemic with close to 10,000 deaths.
The Health Minister for a month, Khairy Jamaluddin, should not delay any longer and should explain Malaysia’s horrible Covid-19 death situation.

Can Malaysia rise up like Ireland to the top of the Bloomberg Covid Resilience Ranking (September 2021) when Ireland was in January ranked No. 39 among the 53 biggest economies
In the September 2021 Bloomberg Covid Resilience Ranking released yesterday, Ireland tops the world and the rest of the Top Ten nations are Spain, Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, UAE, France, Switzerland., Canada and Norway.
Ireland was in January 2021 ranked No. 39 with the world’s worst rate of infection, with its daily new Covid-19 caseload shooting up from three-digit numbers at end of December to four-digit numbers, reaching a daily peak of 8,227 cases on January 8, 2021. Read the rest of this entry »
The 12th Malaysia Plan – Prime Minister and former Prime Ministers
Posted by Kit in Parliament on Tuesday, 28 September 2021
While the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri was stonily reading from the tele-prompter his 12th Malaysia Plan speech to launch the 12th Malaysia Plan in Parliament yesterday, I cannot but look at two former Prime Ministers, one who had presented two five-year Malaysia Plans in Parliament and one who must have thought he should be at the lectern delivering the 12th Malaysia Plan speech if not for the sabotage by his erstwhile political comrades just over a month ago.
They were seated on the same row, although one place apart – but they had no contact or interaction with each other and for both, the other former Prime Minister could be as far away as in a foreign land. Read the rest of this entry »
With daily new Covid-19 cases down to 10,959 cases, the next targets are to descend to four-digit numbers and to go lower than the 4,000 cases Malaysia was supposed to be in three months ago
The daily new Covid-19 cases was down to 10,959 cases yesterday – the lowest for two-and-a-half months since 13th July 2021.
This is the best news for Khairy Jamaluddin since he was sworn in as the new Health Minister on August 30, as before July 13, the daily new Covid-19 cases were in four-digit numbers.

DAP Branches should organise zoom or hybrid-zoom meetings to explain the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) to the Malaysian public
Posted by Kit in CSRA, DAP, nation building on Monday, 27 September 2021
It is two weeks after the signing of the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu and Wilfred Madius Tangau but many people still believe that the CSR MOU was a betrayal of the principles and objectives by the Opposition leaders or that it was a “trap” by Ismail Sabri.
DAP branches should organise zoom or hybrid-zoom meetings to explain the CSR MOU so that the Malaysian public will know that that there is no basis for the belief that the MOU was a betrayal by the Opposition leaders of their principles and objectives or that it was a “trap” by Ismail Sabri. Again Congrats to Khairy for the 13,104 Covid-19 cases yesterday, hoping it will lead to less than 10,000 daily new Covid-19 cases from October 1 and four-digit daily new Covid-19 cases by 2022 Budget Day on Oct. 29
Again congrats to Khairy Jamaluddin for the 13,104 Covid-19 cases yesterday, hoping it will lead to less than 10,000 daily new Covid-19 cases from October 1 and four-digit daily new Covid-19 cases by 2022 Budget Day on Oct. 29, 2021.
As I congratulated Khairy last Friday when Malaysia for the first time in two months fell below the 14,000 daily new Covid-19 cases last Thursday, I said the Health Minster’s “next hurdle” was to bring down daily new Covid-19 cases to below 4,000 cases as it was announced by the former Prime Minister on 15th June as one of the three thresholds for transiting from Phase One of the National Recovery Plan. Khairy’s ten challenges in the Covid-19 pandemic on Budget 2022 Day in Parliament on Oct. 29
Yesterday, Malaysia sets two new dubious records in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Firstly, we “improved” our world ranking to No. 20 among nations with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases with 13,899 daily new Covid-19 cases and secondly, we passed the 25,000-mark for Covid-19 deaths, as we have a cumulative total of 25,159 deaths after yesterday’s daily 228 Covid-19 deaths.

The 10-member steering committee of the CSR MOU will have a very important role to ensure integrity of Malaysia Agreement 1963 and judicial independence

The confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan leaders on Sept. 10 has given rise to very divided public opinion.
There are those who oppose the CSR MOU on the grounds that the Opposition should not betray their principles and objectives or feared that it would signify the demise of the Opposition.

Why has Malaysia’s daily new Covid-19 cases increased from 3.5 times to 5.7 times that of Indonesia in the 26 days Khairy Jamaluddin had been the new Health Minister?
Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 14,554 new daily Covid-19 cases and 250 daily Covid-19 deaths, while Indonesia recorded 2,227 new daily Covid-19 cases and 144 Covid-19 deaths.
This is the 37th consecutive day that Malaysia had more daily new Covid-19 cases than Indonesia since August 18, 2021, and except for two days since Sept. 6, 2021, Malaysia had more Covid-19 daily deaths than Indonesia for 16 days. For the last seven days, daily Covid-19 deaths in Indonesia have been below 200 cases. Read the rest of this entry »
Equal allocation for all MPs most welcome and hope it will usher in a more consultative and inclusive political democratic system in Malaysia

I welcome the announcement by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions), Mastura Mohd Yazid in Parliament today that both government and opposition MPs will be given equal allocation for the final four months of this year for their parliamentary constituencies.
She said that this move was in line with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri’s commitment to implement the transformation of Parliament. Read the rest of this entry »
Cabinet today should accept the High Court decision on automatic citizenship for overseas-born children of Malaysian mothers and foreign fathers and direct the Attorney-General to withdraw any appeal
Posted by Kit in Human Rights on Friday, 24 September 2021
There is no need for the Cabinet to deliberate on the issue of Malaysian mothers whose children were born abroad as a result of marriage to foreigners.
What the Cabinet should do is to accept the High Court decision on automatic citizenship for overseas-born children of Malaysian mothers and foreign fathers and direct the Attorney-General to withdraw the appeal. Read the rest of this entry »
Congrats Khairy, for bringing down daily new Covid-19 cases to below 14,000 cases yesterday – first time since two months ago – and now to surmount the next hurdle to bring down daily new Covid-19 cases to below 4,000 cases as four months ago and supposed to be one of the three thresholds for transiting from Phase One of National Recovery Plan

The Speaker should excuse himself as chairman of Parliamentary Committee of Privileges in the probe whether a senior Minister had blocked MP for Teluk Intan Nga Kor Ming from presiding over the afternoon session of Monday’s parliamentary meeting
Posted by Kit in Parliament on Thursday, 23 September 2021
I had said yesterday that the Parliamentary Committee of Privileges should probe whether a senior Minister had blocked the Member of Parliament for Teluk Intan, Nga Kor Ming, from presiding over the afternoon session of Monday’s parliamentary meeting.
On Tuesday, the MP for Puchong Gobind Singh Deo had challenged the Minister for International Trade and Industries Azmin Ali to admit that he was the senior minister who blocked Nga from presiding over the afternoon session of Monday’s parliamentary meeting, but Azmin avoided the subject on the ground that it was then a question-and-answer session.

DAP will go all out to co-operate to ensure that Malaysia wins the war against Covid-19 pandemic but we will be unsparing in our criticisms when things go wrong

The primary reason for the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and Pakatan Harapan leaders is the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Worldometer website, we have beaten all the major nations in the world whether China, India, Russia, Japan, United States, United Kingdom, Indonesia or Australia in the category “Deaths in the last seven days per 1 million population” and the only states worse than Malaysia are some of the mini-states and small island nations having population of less than three million people. Khairy should explain why Malaysia has got the worst Covid-19 death figures as well as the worst BID Covid-19 death figures yesterday since he was sworn in as the new Health Minister 24 days ago on August 30?
Khairy Jamaluddin should explain why Malaysia has got the worst Covid-19 death figures as well as the worst Brought-in-Dead (BID) Covid-19 death figures yesterday since he was sworn in as the new Health Minister 24 days ago on August 30?
Yesterday, Malaysia reported 487 Covid-19 deaths including 161 Brought-in-Dead (BID) Covid-19 deaths, the highest-ever registered for both categories which Khairy was sworn in the new Health Minister – bringing the total death toll from Covid-19 to 24,565 deaths, including 4,809 BID Covid-19 deaths.

The matter should not be allowed to rest without a clear-cut answer.
The interference with the Speaker’s decision by the Executive must be regarded as a most serious matter and an unacceptable parliamentary behaviour as it affects the position and place of Parliament and a grave infringement of the doctrine of the separation of powers provided in the Constitution.

Great reservations that Muhyiddin, the person responsible for the losing war against the Covid-19 pandemic and millions of Covid-19 cases and tens of thousands of Covid-19 deaths is Chairman of National Recovery Council

I have grave reservations that Muhyiddin Yassin, the person responsible for the losing war against the Covid-19 pandemic and the millions of Covid-19 cases and tens of thousands of Coivid-19 deaths is Chairman of the National Recovery Council.
Muhyiddin said yesterday that he has been given the same amount of authority as when he was Prime Minster to make decisions for the National Recovery Plan (NRP) except when it involves money. Read the rest of this entry »
CSR MOU between Ismail Sabri and PH leaders not sure to fail but any failure must not stem from PH
Posted by Kit in CSRA, nation building, Pakatan Harapan on Tuesday, 21 September 2021
Let me clarify what I had said at the zoom meeting with DAP Selangor leaders on Sunday: the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders last Monday is not sure to fail but any failure must not stem from the Pakatan Harapan.
There are those who thought that I had said that the CSR MOU is sure to fail. I did not say that.
But many are expecting the CSR MOU to fail but we in DAP and PH want the CSR MOU to succeed, for its success will usher in a new political landscape for Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »
