Never before has there been so many candidates contesting in the Sabah state general election in the last five decades – 447 candidates for 73 seats, with one seat facing a 11-cornered fight, one-seat a 10-cornered fight, three seats nine-cornered, five seats eight-cornered, 13 seats seven-cornered, 26 seats six-cornered and 15 seats five-cornered fights.
But in Sabah, it is not only individuals but political parties who could be political frogs.
It is indeed a massive free-for-all but it accentuates what should be one of the objectives of the 2020 Sabah state general election – to slay the “frogs” whether persons or parties and bring an end in Sabah and Malaysia the disgusting political culture of “frogging” and to usher in a new era of honest and conviction politics. I have received a memorandum on Sabah poverty from former Sabah Chief Minsiter, Harris Salleh and I am prepared to visit his pilot project in Balung, Tawau
I have received a memorandum on Sabah poverty from Tan Sri Harris Salleh, the sixth Sabah Chief Minister from 1976-1985.
We have had a very rocky relationship in the seventies and eighties, when Harris was the Sabah Chief Minister and abused his powers by banning me from entering Sabah for legitimate political activities.
The most notable episode in my clash with Harris Salleh when he was Chief Minister was when he denied me entry into Sabah to accept his political challenge to repeat my speech in Parliament without parliamentary privilege and I was bodily carried up to the waiting aircraft at the Kota Kinabalu Airport to take me back to Kuala Lumpur on August 24, 1984.
The photograph of this episode was later misused by the producers of the film “Tanda Putera” as a pre-release advertisement campaign to show that I was in Kuala Lumpur during the May 13, 1969 riots when I was never in Kuala Lumpur at any time during the May 13, 1969 riots.
Despite these very rocky history between us, I am prepared to listen to Harris’ view as to the most effective way to eradicate poverty, especially as it has become a very “hot” issue after the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Professor Philip Alston, said last month that Malaysia had not eradicated poverty as claimed by the previous government and that Malaysia had undercounted the number of poor. May 9, 2018 is the third time in Sabah history to return power to the people 1976 and 1985, when Sabahans “tukar baju”.
Historian Lord Acton has rightly said the “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely”, and this is best illustrated by the 55-year history of Sabah since the formation of Malaysia in 1963.
In the last five decades, we see the double abuse of power – firstly by the Federal Government which trampled on the rights of Sabahans in utter disregard of the rights of the people of Sabah as agreed under the Malaysia Agreement 1963; and secondly, the abuses by the Sabah State Government itself, even those which started off carrying the great hopes and aspirations of Sabahans for change and reforms which prompted the two great electoral results in Sabah in 1976 and 1985. “Six-in-One” for the May 9, 2018 General Election
Earlier today on my arrival in Sabah, I visited Tenom to campaign for the DAP Parliamentary candidate Noorita Sual (at the same time campaigning for the two State Assembly candidates from Warisan, Peter Anthony for Melalap and Haris Ongus for Kemabong) and to Keningau to campaign for the DAP State Assembly Candidate for Bingkor Peter Saili.
I have just come from Luyang campaigning for the DAP Parliamentary candidate for Kota Kinabalu, Chan Foong Hin, and the DAP State Assembly Candidates Phoong Jin Zhe (Luyang) and Tan Lee Fatt (Likas).

Tonight is a historic one for Stampin and Sarawak, for with the brave and selfless decision of the DAP Sarawak Chairman Chong Chieng Jen to leave his safe Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat for the dangerous Stampin parliamentary seat, Stampin joins Ayer Hitam, Teluk Intan, Langkawi, Pagoh and Semporna as among the high-profile constituencies in the nation where the battle to Save Malaysia from a kleptocratic state and rogue democracy will be fought in the 14th General Election and be the focus of attention not only of Malaysians but the world.
In the 13th General Election, DAP won Stampin by 18,000 votes. But through the worst gerrymandering in the redelineation of parliamentary constituencies, Barisan Nasional sought to win back Stampin by the most undemocratic means by moving 28,000 voters from Stampin to Bandar Kuching so that SUPP can win Stampin.
The issue in Stampin, Sarawak and even Malaysia is whether the voice of Chong Chien Jen will be silenced in Parliament if he is defeated in Stampin.
It is shocking and even mind-blowing that the SUPP could be so mindless and blind as to claim that the 14th General Election has nothing to do with Datuk Seri Najib Razak and that it is about Sarawak’s rights to self-determination. Read the rest of this entry »
The 14GE is the last opportunity for Malaysians to tell the whole world that they do not want Malaysia to become a global kleptocracy
I want to announce that the DAP/Pakatan Harapan candidate for Sandakan Parliament will be the incumbent and Sabah DAP State Chairman Stephen Wong, while Calvin Chong will be the DAP/PH candidate for the Sabah state assembly seat of Elopura and Frankie Poong the DAP/PH candidate for Tanjung Papat state assembly seat.
This is a significant visit to me to Sandakan, marking the 40th anniversary of my first visit to Sandakan in 1978 – the year Sandakan created history in sending the first “Rocket” from Sabah to Parliament.
As the DAP International Secretary, Teo Nie Ching, mentioned just now, the Rocket symbol will not be seen in Peninsular Malaysia in the 14th General Election and would only be seen in Sabah and Sarawak, as we have made the critical decision to use the Pakatan Harapan common logo in the supreme effort to win the 14th General Election and establish the Pakatan Harapan Federal Government in Putrajaya. The theme of the Barisan Nasional manifesto “Bersama BN, Hebatkan Negaraku” is not only false and misleading, but one of greatest fake news in the country.
In reality, the hard truth is “Bersama BN, hancurlah Negaraku”.

BN Manifesto wrong and misleading, as “Bersama BN” will not “Hebatkan Negaraku” but “Hancurkan Negaraku”
Firstly, I want to make two announcements with regard to the 14th General Election as both Parliament and the Sabah State Assembly have been dissolved
DAP Sabah will field two women candidates in the 14GE – Jannie Lasimbang who will be DAP candidate for Kapayan Sabah State Assembly seat and Noorita Sual who will be the DAP candidate for the parliamentary seat of Tenom.
Jannie, head of DAP Sabah Wanita and former Suhakam Commissioner, has brought international renown to Sabah and Malaysia, as she was president of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact and co-ordinator of Partners of Community Organisation, Sabah.
Noorita, who was a DAP Sabah State Assembly candidate in the 13th General Election in 2013, is the first Murut woman lawyer in the country.

50-year dependence of villagers of Kampong Kelanaan in Melalap on rainwater a clear case of criminal neglect of development needs of people of Sabah when DAP Impian Sabah resolved their problem in seven days with solar-pump clean water project costing RM50,000
This solar-pump clean water project at Kampong Kelanaan in Melalap, Tenom is the fourth mini-infrastructure project by DAP Sabah Impian Malaysia team which I had to privilege of launching since Friday, firstly a water gravity project at Kampong Pangas Ulu in Keningau, secondly, a water gravity project in Kampong Magatang in Sook, Pensiangan, a third a solar-pump clean water project at Kampong Molosok, Dalit, Pensiangan.
For 50 years, the fifty households in Kampong Kelanaan in Melalap comprising Lun Dayeh people had to depend on rain for their water supply.
Despite repeated pleas by the villagers in Kampong Kelanaan for help to resolve their water, road and land problems, no help was forthcoming at all, although the State Assemblyman for Melalap is none other than the Minister for Rural Development Datuk Radin Malleh.
In desperation, the villagers of Kampong Kelanaan sought help from DAP Sabah Impian Malaysia, which ended the 50 years of dependency of Kampong Kelanaan villagers on rain for water supply by building a solar-pump clean water project in seven days with five DAP Sabah Impian Malaysia personnel, five volunteers from Penang, Johore and Selangor and gotong-royong effort by 50 villagers.

Never before in six decades of the nation’s history have Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or station, been so concerned about the future of the country as we had clearly taken the wrong turn in nation-building at variance from the bedrock principles of the Malaysian Constitution and Rukunegara.
This is best illustrated by the following developments:
• The failure of the federal government to fully honour the Malaysia Agreement 1963 for Sabah and Sarawak, with the Keningau Batu Sumpah standing as an indictment of such failure, particularly the three core issues of religion, land and local customs.
• In the Cobbold Commission Report 1963, the Malayan representatives made the commitment that the Malaysian Constitution “in effect would be secular”, and it is most shocking that such constitutional safeguards had been so undermined in recent years, that the Federal Government is openly funding activities of organisations which attacked the “secular” principle in the Malaysian Constitution and the Rukunegara principle on the supremacy of the Malaysian Constitution. Land which embraces territorial waters raise the question of Sabah and Sarawak’s rightful share of oil royalties, while Malaysia’s unique asset of linguistic, religious and cultural diversity has come under intense attack in recent years.
• Even the Malay Rulers are concerned that the Malaysian nation-building process has gone awry, resulting in three statements by them in the past two years, the first one in October 2015 expressing concern on the 1MDB scandal, the second statement in February 2016 on the National Security Council (NSC) Bill with its impact on democracy and human rights and recently, the third statement in October this year expressing the Malay Rulers’ concern on national unity and harmony. I had not expected my retort to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, to take effect so fast.
On 28th September, I had replied to Dzulkifli who said a day earlier that people were watching me to judge my commitment and seriousness towards fighting corruption and abuse of power.
I observed that I had been watched by the people for the 52 years I had been involved in politics, and reminded Dzulkifli that the people were watching him whether he will be the head of the world’s first “kleptocratic” anti-corruption agency.
I never expected that the people’s “watch” on the MACC Chief Commissioner would within a month become a supreme test, which caused Dzulkifli to disappear from the public limelight in past 12 days except for a highly problematic statement four days ago, although he was dominating the public limelight almost on a daily basis previously.
Let us focus on the four-day remand of the Parti Warisan Sabah president, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal on his 60th birthday, in connection with MACC investigations into alleged misappropriation of at least RM1.5 billion in rural development funds intended for Sabah and the MACC arrest of Shafie’s two younger brothers and a number of other Warisan leaders. Discovery – Salleh Said Keruak is another “one trick pony”
I only came across the blog of the Minister for Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak on “Kit Siang camouflaging his true ambitions” after I had issued my statement “Abdul Rahman should not be a ‘one trick pony’” on Abdul Rahman’s interview with Channel News Asia yesterday.

My first visit and first political programme in Sabah was 48 years ago on May 13, 1969 when I came over from Peninsular Malaysia to help in the campaigning of the independent parliamentary candidate in Kota Kinabalu, and I was to visit Sandakan and Tawau, but the infamous May 13 riots in 1969 broke out in Kuala Lumpur, and the rest is history.
In the past 54 years, Sabah has had 13 Chief Ministers (in contrast with six in Sarawak), but in the past half a century, Sabahans had not enjoyed the fruits of development which Sabahans and Sarawakians had been promised when the federation of Malaysia was formed from the Malaysia Agreement 1963 by Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.
The Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said in Putrajaya today that between August 2016 and August 2017, MACC seized assets worth RM334.53 million.

Tonight’s ceramah in Kuching is unique and special, since the re-ignition of new hope and expectations among Malaysians with regard to the next 14th General Election since July 14, following the announcement of a new Pakatan Harapan structure, Pakatan Harapan logo and new PH leadership line-up.
I was with the Pakatan Harapan Chairman, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at the DAP “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” dinner in Penang last night, and today, I flew into Kuching, transiting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Wherever I went today, especially when transiting in KLIA and on arrival in Kuching, there was a throb in the air, a fervor and great expectation with people regardless of region, race or religion coming up to me in anticipation of something significant happening in Kuching today.
This is the why there is such a huge turn-out of the people of Kuching and Sarawak from all communities at the Pakatan Harapan ceramah tonight despite the heavy rain for the soft-launch of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto for Sarawak and Sabah.
The people of Sarawak and Malaysia have been waiting political change, a “New Deal, New Hope” for more than half a century, and they are not going to allow inclement conditions, whether of the weather or the political situation, to stand in the way.

I call on the Sarawak and Sabah Chief Ministers to stop their abuse of immigration autonomy powers in illegally and undemocratically barring Pakatan Harapan leaders from entry if they are serious in wanting the Federal Government to fully respect both the word and spirit of Malaysia Agreement 1963.
Under the 1963 Malaysia Agreement which conferred immigration autonomy powers to Sarawak and Sabah, it was clearly stipulated that no Malaysian from Peninsular Malaysia should be barred from entry into Sarawak and Sabah in pursuit of “legitimate political activities”.
In barring Pakatan Harapan leaders from entry into Sarawak and Sabah although in pursuit of “legitimate political activities”, the Sarawak and Sabah Chief Ministers would be abusing their powers under Malaysia Agreement 1963, which would undermine their legitimate demands for the full recognition and restoration of the rights of Sarawak and Sabah under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
The second point I want to make is with regard to what the former Inspector-General Tan Sri Rahim Noor said in Kota Kinabalu at a forum “Malaysia in the Future” on Tuesday.

I will propose co-option of Jannie Lasimbang as a DAP Central Executive Committee member when the DAP’s problems with Registrar of Societies have been resolved
I want to announce tonight that I had intended to propose the co-option of Jannie Lasimbang as a DAP Central Executive Committee member so that we will have a woman leader of global status to be in the DAP national leadership to be in the national vanguard to save Malaysia and Sabah to ensure that there is justice, democracy, human rights, the rule of law and a sustainable environmental policy in our country.
However, this cannot be done now as DAP is entangled with problems with the Registrar of Societies and I will make the proposal to co-opt Jannie Lasimbang into the DAP national leadership after the DAP’s problems with the Registrar of Societies have been resolved.
Jannie is a former Suhakam commissioner and in 1987, a founding member of Partners of Community Organisations in Sabah (Pacos Trust), an NGO dedicated to the rights of the indigenous people.
At the international level, Lasimbang had served as the secretary-general of the Indigenous People’s Alliance in Asia and chairperson of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Communities.

We are celebrating the 54th anniversary of Malaysia Day, and I am in Sabah yesterday and today in Sandakan, Lahad Datuk and Kota Kinabalu to celebrate the formation of Malaysia 54 years ago in 1963.
I would have expected the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and all the Cabinet Ministers to spend these few days in Sabah and Sarawak to celebrate Malaysia Day, but they seemed to have made the most perfunctory observation of Malaysia Day, with the Prime Minister and his deputy making lightning visit to Kota Kinabalu last night for the official Malaysia Day celebrations and and leaving almost immediately thereafter.
I do not think the Prime Minister is doing justice to Malaysia Day, Sabah and Sarawak especially at a time of the highest discontent by Sabahans and Sarawakians about the unjust and inequitable treatment by the Federal Government since 1963.
Najib could spend the past week in United States and United Kingdom but he could only spend a few hours in Kota Kinabalu for the formal Malaysia Day celebrations, flying in and out in a few hours. He could not spend even 24 hours in Sabah.

Can the BN Sabah and Sarawak Ministers and MPs be trusted to uphold Sabah and Sarawak interests when they dare not openly declare their support for Malanjum as Chief Justice of Malaysia?

The President of the Sabah Council of Datuks, Claudius Roman, said that Sabah may have to wait 100 years to produce another judge as gifted as Richard Malanjum.
He said the Council, which is made up of serving and former senior leaders of the public and private sectors, political organisations and NGOs. had unanimously agreed on Wednesday that Malanjum was the most qualified member of the Malaysian judiciary for the post of chief justice.
The question is whether the Ministers and MPs from Sabah and Sarawak dare to tell the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, that Sabah will have to wait 100 years to produce another judge as gifted as Richard Malanjum.
This is most unlikely as how can the Barisan Nasional Ministers and MPs from Sabah and Sarawak be trusted to uphold Sabah and Sarawak interests when they dare not openly declare their support for Malanjum as Chief Justice of Malaysia, especially as next Thursday on August 3 will be deadline for the appointment of a new Chief Justice. The 10 Cabinet Ministers and 57 MPs from Sabah and Sarawak should meet before Parliament reconvenes next Monday on 24th July to work out a strategy to ensure that the first appointment of a Chief Justice from Sabah and Sarawak in the sixth decade of the formation of Malaysia should not be voided and by-passed.
The unconstitutional extension of the tenures of Tan Sri Rau Sharif and Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin as Chief Justice and Court of Appeal President on August 3 and Sept. 27 respectively will be detrimental to the cause of Malaysian nation building.
The by-passing of the opportunity for the appointment of the first Chief Justice from Sabah/Sarawak will be exploited by those in Sabah and Sarawak who are attacking the Federal Government in Putrajaya as too Peninsular-centric and unable to take full account of the vision of Malaysia as a federation where the rights and interests of Sabah and Sarawak are given full respect and recognition. I said at the DAP Miri’s “Bangkit Miri, Undi Harapan” 14th General Election Preparation dinner on Friday night that the unconstitutional extension of the tenures of Tan Sri Rau Sharif and Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin as Chief Justice and Court of Appeal President on August 3 and Sept. 27 respectively will be detrimental to the cause of Malaysian nation building.
The by-passing of the opportunity for the appointment of the first Chief Justice from Sabah/Sarawak will be like “manna from heaven” and exploited by those in Sabah and Sarawak attacking the Federal Government in Putrajaya as too Peninsular-centric and unable to take full account of the vision of Malaysia as a federation where the rights and interests of Sabah and Sarawak are given full respect and recognition.
This unconstitutional extension of the tenures of Raus and Zulkefli is totally indefensible, undermining not only the sanctity and integrity of the Malaysian Constitution and the vision of Malaysia as a federation where Sabah and Sarawak are fully integrated and not treated as step-brothers, it would also undermine the promotional opportunities and prospects of at least eight Federal Court judges, including three women!
As the most glaring injustice of the unconstitutional extension of the tenures of Raus and Zulkefli is the by-passing of the opportunity to appoint the first Chief Justice from Sabah and Sarawak in the person of Tan Sri Richard Malanjum, I call on all Barisan Nasional Ministers and MPs from Sabah and Sarawak to take a common and united stand with Pakatan Harapan MPs for the appointment of Richard Malanjum as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.
