Welcome Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, though it is a surprise to see you coming out from the woodwork campaigning for PBS at Pulau Berhala in the Sandakan by-election.
You have been quite forgotten after your nine-year stint as Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1MDB Speaker of Parliament, when you were the darling of the media, enjoying the controversies when you arbitrarily banned parliamentary discussion and probe of the 1MDB scandal and prevented Parliament from playing its role to save Malaysia from the ignominy, iniquity and infamy of being condemned by the world as a global kleptocracy.
The 13th Parliament could have performed its patriotic duty to save Malaysia from being

On behalf of DAP, we express full support for the motion by the MP for Port Dickson (Anwar Ibrahim) condemning the Christchurch attack on two mosques and killing of 50 Muslims and injury of many others.
The attacks and killings are a blot for humanity as there is no place for terrorism in any religion or country.

Parliamentary Caucus on Reform and Governance will study why after six decades, Orang Aslis continue to be the forgotten community in Malaysia

The Parliamentary Caucus on Reform and Governance with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Chairman and myself as Deputy Chairman will study why after six decades, the Orang Aslis continue to be the forgotten community in Malaysia, denied of basic needs like proper roads, clean water, electricity, schools, educational advancement, easy access to medical care, housing , decent jobs, business opportunities and protection of their customary land rights.
It is time that Orang Aslis stand up like the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans and Ibans to demand that in a New Malaysia which the country has embarked upon with the historic decision of the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018, Orang Aslis in Malaysia can also enjoy justice, integrity, freedom and democracy in Malaysia.
Orang Asli communities should take the opportunity of the formation of the Parliamentary Caucus on Reform and Governance to initiate a national discussion as to what can be done to restructure institutions and governance so that all the Orang Asli communities in the country can be absorbed into the mainstream of national development.
They should not miss the opportunity to make representations to the Parliamentary Caucus on Reform and Governance, which will finalise its modus operandi and scope of jurisdiction, which will be announced when ready.
There is now a new Pakatran Harapan Federal Government in Putrajaya and a new Pakatan Harapan Johore state government in Kota Iskandar.
Pakatan Harapan must prove in five years that it is better than the UMNO/BN government for all Malaysians, whether Orang Asli, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans or Ibans or the voters will not re-elect Pakatan Harapan in the 15th General Election in 2023.

Some press have reported that I have made two contradictory statements on the exodus of UMNO MPs from UMNO yesterday – one when attending the AMANAH national conference in Ipoh in the morning and the other when launching the Malay Mail book “100 Days, 100 Pictures” in Kuala Lumpur in the evening.

The principle that the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament should be an Opposition Member should be subject to the proviso that no PAC Chairman should sit and examine government account for years where he or she was a government MP and not an Opposition MP.
Parliamentary Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked Ronald Kiandee to resign as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman as he was appointed at the discretion of the Opposition Leader.
Zahid Hamidi is wrong. The PAC Chairman is not appointed at the discretion of the Opposition Leader, but by Parliament by way of a motion.
The Pakatan Harapan Government has accepted the convention that the Chairman of the PAC come from the Opposition, which means on the recommendation of the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, but the final decision lies with Parliament and not with the Opposition Leader. Read the rest of this entry »
More questions about Hadi and PAS MPs’ position on ICERD

Yesterday, I asked the PAS President Datuk Seri Hadi Awang what he really meant when he said that all Muslims must oppose the ratification of the International Covenant on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) when the Covenant had been ratified by countries representing 99% of the 1.9 billion Muslims in the world, including countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, UAB, Algeria, Pakistan, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
While we wait for answer from the PAS President, Hadi can also explain why 55 of the 57 countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) States have ratified ICERD, except for Malaysia and Brunei. Is there a suggestion that somehow the 99% the world’s 1.9 billion Muslims, who live in 55 of the 57 OIC countries, have been misled and not as Muslim as Hadi would want them to be? What happened in Parliament on Monday morning, when UMNO and PAS Members of Parliament defied and disregarded the Speaker’s directives and shouted and yelled incessantly to stop the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, P. Waytha Moorthy from replying and delivering his speech during the Ministerial winding-up in the debate on the 2019 Budget is the greatest disgrace in the half-a-century history of Malaysian Parliament, as such a dishonourable incident had never happened before in the Malaysian Parliament since 1959.
Has parliamentary standards in Malaysia degraded so much in the past half-a-century? Is the Malaysian Parliament next to graduate to fist-fights and physical attacks on the Speaker as happened in other Parliaments?
What made Monday’s disgraceful incident in Parliament even more shocking is that some of the miscreant Members of Parliament were former Cabinet Ministers – which highlighted the glaring fact that the former Cabinet that was unceremoniously chucked out of Putrajaya by the Malaysian voters on May 9, 2018 was one the worst in Malaysian history – made up of the most “deadwood” and “half-past six” Ministers. The 2019 Budget debate in Parliament has ended, with the Ministers beginning their replies today.
One of the most astounding features of the 2019 Budget debate is that not a single UMNO, MCA, MIC, PAS or Opposition MP dare to take a stand that the monstrous 1MDB “kleptocracy at its worst” scandal is a national catastrophe and that the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak must be held responsible for the infamy of Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy.
This despite my public reminder before the budget debate that every Opposition MP should declare his or her stand whether 1MDB scandal was a national catastrophe and whether Najib should be held responsible for Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy.
This shows that not a single Opposition MP could be depended upon to perform the national duty to redeem Malaysia’s international reputation and standing by transforming Malaysia from a global kleptocracy into a leading nation in integrity in the world. Read the rest of this entry »
Three shocks from the Opposition in Parliament during the 2019 Budget presentation

I was wrong yesterday, I thought there would be an empty seat next to the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, during the presentation of the 2019 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday as a day earlier, the United States Department of Justice had finally indicted fugitive financier Jho Loh and a former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner had pleaded guilty to 1MDB corruption and money-laundering charges.
Jho Low was charged in the federal court at the Eastern District of New York for conspiring to launder billions of dollars embezzled from 1MDB.
Low and former Goldman Sachs banker Ng Chong Hwa, also known as Roger Ng, were also charged with conspiring to violate Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) to paying bribes to Malaysian and Abu Dhabi officials. Read the rest of this entry »

Is it divinely ordained that former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should speak to an empty chamber in Parliament to underline how low he has fallen and how irrelevant he has become to Malaysians?
Such a question would naturally follow from the declaration in Parliament yesterday by the UMNO President and former Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi that the earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Indonesia that killed more than 1,900 people happened because there were over 1,000 people who were involved in LGBT activities.
Malaysians and in fact the world must thank Najib for posting a photograph on his Facebook page showing him delivering a speech in the Dewan Rakyat to rows of empty seats in front of him – which is indeed a rare sight!
In fact, there were several meetings in Parliament going on at the time Najib spoke, including the Public Accounts Committee and two Ministerial briefings on forthcoming parliamentary business. Read the rest of this entry »

There were three unusual sights during the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s speech on the 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-Terrm Review in Parliament yesterday.
First, the empty seat opposite the Prime Minister across the parliamentary aisle in the Opposition benches. The seat was empty as the Parliamentary Opposition Leader had been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and expected to be charged in court today on 45 counts of corruption, criminal breach of trust and money-laundering.
Second, the second Opposition seat next to the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, which is occupied by the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak. During Mahathir’s entire speech on the 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review, Najib never raised his head to look at the Prime Minister, eyeball to eyeball so to say, but kept his head down.

The Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) report should be tabled as a White Paper in Parliament and a Parliamentary Select Committee on Institutional Reforms formed on the CEP proposals to be implemented, including the system for the appointment of judges.
Recently, the CEP chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin called on the government to make the CEP’s recommendations available to the public.
He said that as part of the CEP’s efforts to look into the government finances, it had interviewed more than 300 individuals, including bankers, businessmen, civil servants, civil society members and union officials.
Those interviews had revealed a culture of turning a blind eye towards corruption.

Every Public Accounts Committee member should be given a copy of the two books on the 1MDB scandal, viz. “The Sarawak Report – The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose” by the Sarawak Report editor, Clare Rewcastle Brown and “Billion Dollar Whale – the Man who fooled the Wall Street, Hollywood and the World” by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, two Wall Street Journal reporters.
Furthermore, all the PAC members should have read the two books on the 1MDB scandal by next Tuesday when they start to carry out Parliament’s directive following an unanimous parliamentary motion last August to “conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat; and that all related information should be made public”.

As the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Port Dickson parliamentary by-election Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has just said, on his return to Parliament, Tun Mahathir Mohamad would continue to focus on his Prime Ministerial duties while he would focus on parliamentary reforms.
There is no doubt that parliamentary reforms in Malaysia is long overdue.
The last 13th Parliament became an international joke and charade as Members of Parliament were not allowed to submit questions or to debate the 1MDB scandal, when the whole world was aware of its monstrous criminality and moral turpitude.

Will the PAC under Ronald Kiandee produce the most comprehensive, authoritative and up-to-date account on the 1MDB scandal?

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the 14th Parliament has the opportunity to produce the most comprehensive, authoritative and up-to-date account on the 1MDB scandal, which has been described by the US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions as “kleptocracy at its worst” and which landed Malaysia with the international infamy of being regarded worldwide as a global kleptocracy.
It is not the job of the PAC to “resurrect and deconstruct” or even reconstruct the PAC Report on the 1MDB scandal of the 13th Parliament, or to persist in the pretence that the previous PAS Report had “cleared” Datuk Seri Najib Razak of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal.
In fact, if the present PAC is going to do justice to the parliamentary motion in August directing it to “conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat; and that all related information should be made public”, it will have to repudiate the previous PAC Report which was conceived to aid and abet Najib in the world’s “worst kleptocracy” and helped cement the world perception that Malaysia was unrepentant as a global kleptocracy. Has the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee misunderstood the intent and purpose of the parliamentary motion last August directing the PAC to re-open a detailed investigation into the 1MDB scandal?
The Parliamentary motion unanimously passed by all MPs last August directed the PAC to “conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat; and that all related information should be made public”.
In his interview with the New Straits Times yesterday, Kiandee said that the PAC will “resurrect and deconstruct” the previously-concluded report on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDG) scandal that “cleared” former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
In the first place, the very unsatisfactory PAC report of the 13th Parliament on the 1MDB scandal never “cleared” Najib of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal – a claim which Najib himself had repeatedly asserted before the 14th General Election but could not substantiate. Now that the BN-controlled Senate had sabotaged the repeal of the Anti-Fake News Act at least for a year, should Najib be the first to be charged for the numerous fake news he had manufactured about the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal?

A Barisan Nasional-owned newspaper which described yesterday’s Senate rejection of the Anti-Fake News (Repeal) Bill passed by the Dewan Rakyat as “an historic development” was right in the sense that it was a Day of Infamy for the Senate after six decades of irrelevance in Malaysian history.
It highlighted the urgency of parliamentary reforms with regard to the Senate to ensure that it could be an effective revising chamber for the Dewan Rakyat as envisaged by the founding fathers of the nation, instead of being a dumping-ground for the political has-beens and the political rubbish from the Barisan Nasional parties, which was the standard operating procedure for appointment of BN Senators in the past six decades.
This is why BN-appointed Senators do not feel the shame that their appointers had been rejected by the Malaysian people in the 14th General Election, and if they had a modicum of shame and moral compass, they would have honourably resigned from the Senate instead of playing the role like yesterday as saboteurs and enemies of the popular will as expressed in the 14th General Election. The 20-day first meeting of the 14th Parliament ended yesterday on a high note with unanimous passage of the motion directing the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat and for all related information to be made public.
This will be unthinkable in the 13th Parliament. In fact, such a motion would not see the light of day, like my motion at the last meeting of the 13th Parliament in March/April 2018 to find the PAC Report unsatisfactory and to direct the PAC to conduct a “fuller and more comprehensive investigation into the 1MDB scandal which had brought Malaysia the 3Is – infamy, ignominy and iniquity – of a global kleptocracy”.
It is quite remarkable that there is a change of mindset among Opposition MPs, as UMNO/BN MPs would have fought tooth-and-nail to stymie any comprehensive investigation into the 1MDB scandal in the 13th Parliament.
In fact, I was suspended from Parliament for six months each in the 13th Parliament, turned into a “parliamentary ghost” and as I said in Parliament yesterday, I was never more ashamed as a Member of Parliament during the 13th Parliament as there was a conspiracy where the 1MDB scandal was elevated into a taboo subject, where questions could not be asked or motions moved. I congratulate Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Steven Sim for the launching of his first book “Dalam Ada Bunga” by the Speaker of Parliament, Datuk Mohd Ariff Mohd Yusuf.
I am particularly attracted by Sim’s poem “Lim Kit Siang” when in the last few days of the 13th Parliament in April 2018, I was treated like a parliamentary “ghost” when the Parliament Speaker and his Deputy Speakers said they could not see me when I entered the parliamentary chamber – because I was suspended for six months for the second time in the 13th Parliament.
