Sarawak Report, the blog that officially broke the scandalous 1MDB story said yesterday that it might have been the victim of a Malaysian government’s ‘Black Ops’ in England.
Along with the blog’s editor Claire Rewcastle Brown, the major opposition parties in Malaysia was also conned believing an event held in Switzerland was an open forum to discuss critical issues related to 1MDB and its harmful impacts.

The biggest news today is not North Korea but South Korea, the unanimous decision by eight judges of South Korea’s Constitutional Court endorsing the decision of the South Korean Parliament to impeach and remove President Park Geun-hye from office over a graft scandal involving the country’s conglomerates.
Park becomes South Korea’s first democratically elected leader to be forced from office, capping months of paralysis and turmoil over the corruption scandal that also landed the head of the Samsung conglomerate in detention and on trial.
As Lee Tae-ho, who leads a movement to oust Park that has held mostly peaceful rallies in downtown involving millions, told a large gathering in Seoul earlier today: “We did it. We the citizens, the sovereign of this country, opened a new chapter in history.”
Park was stripped of her powers after parliament voted to impeach her but has remained in the president’s official compound.
The court’s acting chief judge, Lee Jung-mi, said Park had violated the constitution and law “throughout her term”, and despite the objections of parliament and the media, she had concealed the truth and cracked down on critics.
South Korea’s Constitutional Court ruling to uphold parliament’s Dec. 9 vote to impeach her marks a dramatic fall from grace of South Korea’s first woman president.
She no longer has immunity and could now face criminal charges over bribery, extortion and abuse of power in connection with allegations of conspiring with her friend, Choi Soon-sil.
What is significant and remarkable is that the Seoul market’s benchmark KOSPI index .KS11 and the South Korean won currency rose after the ruling by the Constitutional Court.
As a senior economist and analyst explained it, “the hope is that this will allow the country to have a new leader that can address long-standing challenges such as labor market reforms and escalated geopolitical tensions.”
What happened in South Korea – the ousting of South Korean President by Parliament and an unanimous decision by eight judges – is a sober reminder to Malaysians of the need to restore rule of law and separation of powers in Malaysia where we can also impeach the Prime Minister if he runs afoul of the law and the Constitution. Tonight’s good crowd at the Bersatu Pribumi Ceramah Perdana is a good beginning for a nation-wide movement to “Save Malaysia” from now to the next General Election expected to be held this year, probably in September.
I call on all patriotic Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or even politics, to unite in the 14GE to “Write History, Create Miracle” to “Save Malaysia” from kleptocracy and hurtling towards a failed and rogue state.
I said in Parliament in November that kleptoracy is a government of 3Ps – Pencuri, Perompak and Penyamun.
I do not think any patriotic Malaysian, regardless of race, religion, region or even politics, want Malaysia to become a kleptocracy and they become citizens of 3P kleptocracy.
I had put a question at the current meeting of Parliament asking the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as to what steps the government has taken to cleanse and restore the good name and reputation on Malaysia from being regarded as a global kleptocracy.
Unfortunately, instead of answering one of the most important questions confronting Malaysians today, my question was rejected by the Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia as violating Standing Order 23(1)© which states that “a question shall not contain any argument, interference, opinion, imputation, epithet or misleading, ironical or offensive expression nor shall a question be frivolous or asked seeking information on trivial matters”. UMNO Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has said that he is confident that UMNO’s allies in Barisan Nasional will finally accept UMNO’s explanation and understand the government’s decision to give priority to Hadi’s private member’s bill on RUU 355 and not only to support it, but to take one step further, for the Barisan Nasional government to take over Hadi’s private member’s bill after Hadi’s private member’s bill motion had been passed by Parliament.
Recently, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said that Hadi’s Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) enabled the government to circumvent the due constitutional process, as requiring consensus from all states, the National Islamic Council and the Rulers’ Conference.
This is what Jamil said: “You can’t bring it to the Rulers Conference if you don’t have consensus from 14 states, but a private member’s bill requires only one state or one person to table it.”
Jamil said that when Hadi’s private member’s bill motion moves to the second reading stage, it would be taken over by the government and read out by him.
Furthermore, the International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that BN component parties will not be able to object to amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) once the bill is taken over by the Federal Government, as the BN component parties are compelled to support the bill as part of the ruling coalition.
From these statements from the three UMNO leaders, it is crystal clear that the Barisan Nasional Federal government will give priority to Hadi’s private member’s bill motion in the current meeting of Parliament to be debated and voted on after the debate on the Royal Address, although MCA, Gerakan, MIC and Sabah/Sarawak BN parties claim that they oppose Hadi’s private member’s bill motion as violating the Malaysian Constitution and the Barisan Nasional consensus principle. Utusan Malaysia is a real disgrace to Malaysian journalism.
There is not a word of my reply to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s “Ali Baba” attack on the DAP although it devoted almost half a page in words and pictures to Najib’s attack on me.
Utusan Malaysia virtually carried in full Najib’s speech in Sindumin, Sabah on Saturday repeating the lie that I had reached a secret deal with Tun Mahathir where Mukhriz will be the Prime Minister and I the Deputy Prime Minister, and using that to mount further attacks on me, alleging that I would be the “most powerful individual”, that the Deputy Prime Minister would be deciding who is to be the Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu succeeds in ousting UMNO/BN from Putrajaya and the Federal Government; and that this is a “ali baba” arrangement.
I have been in Malaysian politics for 51 years, but I had never asked any of the first five Prime Ministers – Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak, Tun Hussein, Tun Mahathir and Tun Abdullah – to see a psychiatrist, until yesterday when I asked Najib to see a psychiatrist.
This is because Najib is building a monumental structure of arguments based on a Big Lie – that Tun Mahathir and I had reached a secret deal where Mukhriz would be Prime Minister and I would be Deputy Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu wins Putrajaya in the 14GE. There is no such agreement, as I had never discussed with Mahathir the questions as to who would be Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu defeat UMNO/BN in the 14th GE – and the purported secret meeting between Mahathir and myself on 3rd December 2016 never took place.
I challenge Najib to name the place and time of this so-called Dec. 3, 2016 meeting where Mahathir and I struck a secret deal that Mukhriz would be Prime Minister and I the Deputy Prime Minister? Read the rest of this entry »

I am very intrigued why the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has decided to pull out all the stops and launched into an unrestrained and unjustified attack on me when in Sindumin, Sabah yesterday.
What is the cause?
Has Najib given the “green light” for the holding of sudden Sabah state general elections and he is setting an example of the wild and unrestrained attacks which BN Sabah leaders should launch against the opposition in an attempt to preserve UMNO/BN power in Sabah state?
We will know soon enough whether there will be snap polls in Sabah.
However, even the imminence of a snap polls for the Sabah state assembly could be no justification for the unprincipled and baseless attacks which Najib launched against me in Sabah yesterday.
Najib said that I would be taking up the position of Deputy Prime Minister should UMNO/Barisan Nasional are ousted from Putrajaya and there is a change of Federal power in the 14th General Elections.
Apart from the truth that UMNO/BN may be ousted from Putrajaya and Federal power in the forthcoming general elections by Pakatan Harapan plus Bersatu, the rest of Najib’s attacks on me are a tissue of lies and falsehoods.
Why should a Prime Minister of a country stoop so low as to indulge in such lies and falsehoods in attacking the Opposition? Is Najib so desperate in his fear of being ousted as Prime Minister and losing the Federal government that he has lost all sense of proportion and moral scruples? Read the rest of this entry »

UMNO Ministers and leaders have been trying to exploit the four-day visit of King Salman of Saudi Arabia to Malaysia as proof that there was nothing hanky-panky about the RM2.6 billion in the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal banking account in 2013, and even claiming that Salman’s silence could only mean confirmation that the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s personal banking account had come from Saudi Arab royal circles.
These claims are of course nonsensical and preposterous, and as I said in Johor Baru four days ago, the most significant thing about King Salman’s visit to Malaysia was not what was said or done by the Saudis, including the signing of the US$7 billion (RM31 billion) agreement by Saudi Aramco to take a 50 per cent stake in Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang but what was not said about the RM2.6 billion “donation” in Najib’s personal bank accounts.
I am not surprised that an UMNO leader said that this was my most “dungu” (idiotic) remark to date, for what intellectual capability can one expect from the UMNO leadership when an UMNO Minister could tell ten lies in a short five-paragraph statement while the UMNO Information leader could tell more than eight lies in another short statement, and both of them dared not accept my challenge to a joint media conference for me to point out their lies one by one?
UMNO leaders who claim the Saudi Arabia’s King Salman’s visit to Malaysia is a sort of vindication of Najib’s innocence in the RM2.6 billion donation scandal have too low an opinion of both King Salman and the Malaysian public.
There is no way that Salman is unaware of Najib’s RM2.6 billion donation and RM52 billion 1MDB scandal is Najib’s greatest Achilles’ heel. Just google-search “1MDB” and you will get 3.7 million results in 2.8 seconds.
The reason why Salman could not say RM2.6 billion in Najib’s personal banking account was his donation is very simple – the Saudi Arabian king knows that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) legal suit to confiscate US$1 billion 1MDB-linked assets, is a public document in black and white, and it had traced in detail the “to and fro” “money trail” of the so-called RM2.6 billion “donation”, establishing beyond a shadow of doubt that they could not be a donation from Saudi Arabian royal circles. Malaysian financier Jho Low is alleged to be the mastermind behind the convoluted labyrinth of offshore vehicles involved in pilfering billions from 1MBD. Has he done too good a job at hiding the assets?
U.S. prosecutors allege that billions were pilfered from Malaysia’s 1MDB. Instead of financing the country’s development, prosecutors allege that millions were spent on luxury hotels like the Park Lane in New York, fine art by Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet, a recording catalogue and even financing for the Hollywood blockbuster «The Wolf of Wall Street».
The scandal has engulfed Swiss banks, many of whom acted as a pass-through in Singapore for money to move elsewhere, though the scandal has also reached Zurich itself.

I always had doubts about the communication skills or language comprehension of Mohd Puad Zarkashi and wondered how he could be a Deputy Education Minister in the first Najib administration and now the director-general of the propaganda outfit in the Communications and Multi-Media Ministry, JASA.

Yesterday, I asked the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to honour his pledge in April 2015 when launching the Government Pensioners’ Foundation that pensioners should “come to me if you need help” by intervening and resolving within 24 hours the sudden, unethical and cruel halt of supplies of medicines and medical equipment to 750,000 pensioners by the private provider, OratisRx Sdn Bhd.
The 750,000 pensioners were caught by complete surprise when private hospitals and pharmacies were given less than 24-hour notice by OratisRx Sdn. Bhd on 27th February 2017 to stop all medical supplies to the pensioners as “any claims of repayment for supplies after February 27 2017 are invalid and not the responsibility of OratisRx Sdn Bhd”!
My call to the Prime Minister had some effect, for it compelled the PSD to issue a late-night announcement that pensioners can still obtain medication from public hospitals after the termination of the Electronic Medical Automation Supply System (e-MASS) that allowed pensioners to get medication from private hospitals and pharmacies. As former Aliran President, P. Ramakrishnan has described it, pensioners were hit with a thunder-bolt with the sudden announcement that no more medicine will be supplied for them by Oratis Services Sdn Bhd, the JPA-appointed company. King Salman of Saudi Arabia’s four-day visit to Malaysia has ended.
The most significant thing about King Salman’s visit to Malaysia is not what was said or done by the Saudis, including the signing of the US$7 billion (RM31 billion) agreement by Saudi Aramco to take a 50 per cent stake in Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang but what was not said about the RM2.6 billion “donation” in Najib’s personal bank accounts.
Three days ago, a “kangkong” professor said that the Saudi King’s visit vindicated the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the RM2.6 billion donation in his personal bank accounts.
He said: “Previously, there was a leader who said that even a mad Arab would not give such a colossal sum. But the presence of King Salman is sufficient to prove Najib was telling the truth that the RM2.6 billion was a donation from the Saudi royal family.”
It is fortunate that this “kangkong” professor did not end up as a judge, as no sane or rational person could understand his “perverse illogic”.
The argument that King Salman would not have set foot in Malaysia if Najib had “slandered” the Saudi royal family does not hold water, for how can King Salman omit an OIC country like Malaysia in a month-long Asian tour, covering six other countries, viz Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, China, Maldives and Jordan – four of which are members of the Organisation of Islamic States (OIC)?
What was most conspicuous in Salman’s visit is the Saudi Arabian silence and refusal to confirm that the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s private banking accounts came from the Saudi royal family. Read the rest of this entry »

Sepanjang tempoh 48 jam lalu, kita diperlihatkan dengan satu lagi aspek perbezaan ketara antara PAS versi Nik Aziz, dan PAS versi Hadi Awang.
Suatu sandiwara penyebaran berita palsu dan fitnah telah berlangsung dalam penyampaian memorandum kononnya oleh akar umbi PAS kepada Ketua Penerangan PAS, Nasarudin Hassan yang meminta Jawatankuasa Pusat PAS supaya memutuskan hubungan dengan mana-mana pihak yang mempunyai pertalian dengan DAP dan Amanah, diiringi beberapa poster menyerang pimpinan Pakatan Harapan dan Bersatu.
Banner yang mahal dan berwarna-warni, menyerang pemimpin Pakatan Harapan dan Bersatu – termasuk satu yang memaparkan wajah saya dan menyerang saya sebagai ‘Musuh Melayu/Islan (Rasis)’ – dipamerkan di luar Pejabat Agung PAS di Kuala Lumpur bagi menyampaikan rasa tidak suka dan benci yang bersangatan terhadap pimpinan DAP, Amanah dan Bersatu seperti Tun Mahathir, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohamad Sabu dan saya sendiri.
Ini adalah sesuatu yang tidak akan terjadi dalam PAS versi Nik Aziz, kerana tidak akan ada Ketua Penerangan PAS yang akan berani mengatur dan menjalankan aksi politik nakal sedemikian, kerana beliau pastinya akan mengundang kemarahan Nik Aziz.

The great difference between Nik Aziz’s PAS and Hadi Awang’s PAS

In the last 48 hours, we were shown another aspect of the great difference between Nik Aziz’s PAS and Hadi Awang’s PAS.
There was the charade and crude display of the spread of fake news and lies purportedly over the Selangor PAS grassroots submitting a memorandum to the PAS Information Chief Nasarudin Hassan urging the PAS Central Committee to cut off ties with any party which has relations with DAP and Amanah, accompanied by several posters attacking Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu leaders.
The multi-coloured banners attacking Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu leaders – including the one with my face and attacking me as “Enemy of Malays/Islam – Racist” – were yesterday displayed outside PAS Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to communicate the intensity of the dislike and even hatred for the DAP, AMANAH and BERSATU leaders like Tun Mahathir, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohd Sabu and myself.
This is something which not would have happened in Nik Aziz’s PAS, as no PAS Information chief would dare to plot and carry out such a political mischief, as he would be at the receiving end of Nik Aziz’s wrath.

Fully support Najib in the fight against spread of fake news – but not just by those who want to topple the government but also to cling on to power although they have lost all credibility and legitimacy

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the people to rise up together to fight against the spread of fake news to topple the government.
Officially opening the “Negara Ku: 1Malaysia Community” programme in Taman Tasik Sultan Abu Bakar in Pekan last night, Najib said:
“When our minds and hearts are attacked by news, propaganda as well as false information and defamation or ‘fake news’ coming out through social media or from certain leaders in order to topple a government, this is the greatest threat, and we will fight all out against it.”
Let me declare that I fully support Najib in the fight against the spread of fake news – but not just by those who want to topple the government but also to cling on to power although they have lost all credibility and legitimacy.
It must be clearly understood that there is nothing criminal or treasonous in wanting to topple the government in a parliamentary democracy – but this must be done through the democratic process, either by way of a no-confidence motion in Parliament or through the ballot box during a general election.
In fact, there is nothing nationalistic or patriotic in wanting to cling on to power by all undemocratic and criminal means – such as perpetuating an undemocratic electoral system or violating the laws of the land resulting in Malaysia regarded worldwide as a “global kleptocracy” and guilty of the politics of money to undermine the popular will. Hadi’s bill: A violation of the shariah

It is not whether the shariah should be reintroduced or reinforced as statutory law, but rather how can medieval Islamic jurisprudence be adapted to meet the needs of justice in modern societies.

The two leading Malay-Muslim political parties, PAS and Umno have been competing to be the greater defender of Islam since the early eighties – a necessary stratagem in bolstering the credibility of their Islamic credentials in the eyes of the Malay electorate.
Due to the multi-religious composition of the governing coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN), Umno which is the leading party of Barisan Nasional cultivates its image as the promoter of a moderate, pragmatic form of Islam and contrasts itself against the ostensibly backward, conservative brand of Islam as advocated by PAS whose calls to “Islamise” the laws of the country from as early as the 1980s were emboldened by the recent tabling of the motion to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, or what is commonly referred to as Act 355, by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in November 2016.
The Malaysian government’s earlier move on May 26, 2016 to expedite for parliamentary deliberation the private member’s bill introduced by Hadi too surprised and unsettled many. The move has been construed by many as a step towards the implementation of Islamic penal code (also referred to as hudud).
Others, in particular the prime minister and his cabinet members have dismissed this reading and clarified that the bill would only augment the sentencing power of the shariah court, which only involves Muslims.
Obviously, one cannot deny that this move has also been interpreted as nothing more than a ruse to boost the political credentials of Umno and PAS in the face of the coming general election.
It would eventually come to nothing. It is all part of the ruling coalition’s political gambit to win the next election. That is totally understandable and politically imperative to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

Recent controversies over the country’s foreign policy decisions are the product of a broader problem.
On February 2, Malaysia revived a decades-old dispute with neighboring Singapore over the islet of Pedra Branca/Batu Puteh, complicating a historically rocky bilateral relationship that has been stable of late. Though Malaysia claimed that the application to revise the 2008 International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement that was in Singapore’s favor is grounded in its discovery of newly unearthed documents, some dismissed the move as posturing by the government led by Prime Minister Najib Razak ahead of Malaysia’s upcoming elections.
While Malaysian officials have rejected claims that the decision was politically motivated, the truth matters less than the doubts being raised. The reemergence of the dispute is just the latest example the reveals a more fundamental problem: that the perception Najib is acting in his own personal interest rather than the national interest is increasingly undermining the execution of Malaysia’s foreign policy. Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop should resign or be sacked or suspended as Khazanah Nasional Bhd Deputy Chairman if the Cabinet is serious about probe into Bank Negara foreign exchange (forex) losses in the 1990s.
This is because Nor Mohamed Yakcop was the chief operator of Bank Negara’s forex speculation which resulted in colossal losses which could total some RM30 billion.
Former Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said when he appeared in court yesterday that Nor Mohamaed Yakcop was complicit in the Bank Negara forex losses in early 1990s when the latter was then a senior Bank Negara official.
He made a revelation when he said that as Finance Minister at the time, he had asked for Nor’s resignation but this was not allowed. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysians welcome Anwar Ibrahim’s support for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the Bank Negara foreign exchange (forex) losses in the 1990s and his offer of assistance if the RCI was established but not a Cabinet task force.
With Anwar’s support and offer of assistance, there is even less reason to delay the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Bank Negara forex losses more than 20 years ago, as well as probe into the 1MDB and BMF scandals.
Anwar’s support and offer of assistance are most significant, as Anwar was the Finance Minister at the relevant period of the Bank Negara forex losses, being Finance Minister of the country from 1991-1998. Read the rest of this entry »

With populists emulating autocrats from Azerbaijan to Zimbabwe, free markets are being forced to confront crony capitalism.
One response is visible in the reversal of fortunes of Malaysia and Indonesia. The two nations still wrestle with the politics of ethnicity and religion at odds with the capitalism of market competition. In Indonesia, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, a Chinese Christian who is the governor of Jakarta, is running for office while defending himself against charges of blasphemy against Islam in a country of predominantly Muslim voters. Malaysia’s embrace of an ideology of Malay supremacy and the low interest rates that invite a debt bubble are impediments to a dynamic economy.
But the historic advantage that Malaysia, with just 30 million people, has enjoyed over its Southeast Asian neighbor of 250 million is disappearing amid a barrage of corruption allegations challenging Prime Minister Najib Razak. Read the rest of this entry »
