If Azam is not prepared to appear before the Parliamentary SSC on Agencies in the PM’s Department, Ismail Sabri should terminate Azam’s appointment as MACC Chief Commissioner and take immediate steps to transfer the MACC from the PM’s Department to Parliament

(Versi BM)

If Azam Baki is not prepared to appear before the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on the Agencies in the Prime Minister’s Department on the serious allegations which had been made against him two months ago, the Prime Minister Ismail Sabri should terminate Azam’s appointment as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner and take immediate steps to transfer the MACC from the PM’s Department to Parliament.

Ismail Sabri should present this proposal for Cabinet approval at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow – or will there be no Cabinet meeting tomorrow? Read the rest of this entry »

Azam Baki should resign as MACC Chief Commissioner if he is not prepared to appear before the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department to explain the serious allegations against him which compromised national anti-corruption efforts

After causing two infamies to Malaysia, turning the country into a kleptocracy and opening an international conference as a convicted criminal for corruption, there is an attempt to score a triple infamy to Malaysia by suddenly appearing like a white knight in shining armour vying to be the country’s leading crusader against corruption in Malaysia.

Ensuring that Malaysia is an honest and non-corrupt country and acknowledged worldwide as among the top 30 countries regarded as least corrupt is serious business, and I will not be part of a charade so that someone could score triple infamy of corruption to Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »

Whether 2022 will be a year of rejecting corruption will depend on three things led by the issue of Azam Baki as MACC Chief Commissioner

A former Prime Minister in his 2022 New Year message hoped that 2022 will be better than 2020 and 2021, and that it would be a year of rejecting corruption to save Malaysia.

He said Malaysians must reject corruption and choose incorruptible leaders if the country is to have any hope to achieving its potential. Read the rest of this entry »

Abu Zahar has got the wrong end of the stick – the issue is not Gomez but Azam

(Versi BM)

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Advisory Board Chairman Abu Zahar Ujang has got the wrong end of the stick – the issue is not academician Edmund Terence Gomez but the MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki.

Gomez’ shock resignation has only highlighted the Azam Baki issue. Read the rest of this entry »

Call on all members the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department to agree to summon MACC Chief Comissioner Azam Baki to respond to serious allegations of impropriety first made more than two months ago

(Versi BM)

The ideal situation is to have a Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Corruption and Abuses/Wastage of Public Funds which should conduct an investigation into the allegations of lack of integrity which have been made against the MACC Chief Commissioner, Azam Bai, more than two months ago and which has prompted academician Edmund Terence Gomez to resign from the MACC’s Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel for the MACC inaction in the last two months.

But even if Prime Minister Ismail Sabri agrees to set up such a Parliamentary Special Select Committee, which is a very big “If”, such a Special Select Committee can only be set up when Parliament next meets, which is two months away on February 28, when what is needed urgently is immediate action as the trust deficit in the government generallty and the MACC in particular has dropped to an all-time low.

Infamy of Infamies – the 1MDB “kleptocracy at its worst” scandal

(versi BM)

Thanks goodness, it was not all news of infamy for Malaysia every day for the last week for the year 2021 – as there were also some good news and one came yesterday when the High Court in Kuala Lumpur ruled that the existence and establishment of vernacular schools and the use of Chinese and Tamil languages in schools are constitutional.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ruled that vernacular schools are not a public authority and the use of a non-Malay medium of instruction for teaching in Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools is not for an official purpose and thus, did not infringe Article 152 (1) of the Federal Constitution. The Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department should summon MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki to explain the two-month old allegations against him, which has caused “trust deficit” in government and MACC to drop to an unprecedented level

(Versi BM)

The Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department should summon MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki to explain the two-month old allegations against him, as the “conspiracy of silence” on the issue has, among other things, caused “trust deficit” in government and MACC to drop to an unprecedented level.

The Special Select Committee should submit its report to Dewan Rakyat on the first day of the first meeting of the fifth session of Parliament from February 28 to 24th March, 2022. Read the rest of this entry »

Ismail Sabri must act on Gomez’ shock resignation from MACC panel and end the two-month “conspiracy of silence” about allegations of MACC Chief’s ownership of close to two million shares in a public listed company

(Versi BM)

It would appear that Malaysia’s international infamy this year has not ended, although we are left with three days before we enter the New Year of 2022.

What other infamies are in store for Malaysia for the next three days?

Yesterday, a convicted criminal opened an international conference in Kuala Lumpur while today we have the shock resignation of the Edmund Terence Gomez from a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Panel, highlighting that something is very rotten with the anti-corruption efforts in Malaysia.

Walk the talk to prove Ismail Sabri government committed to UN anti-corruption efforts by passing motion to approve the PAC report on Bank Negara funds used for 1MDB bailout

(Versi BM)

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has said that Malaysia will support the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and has undertaken several efforts that prove its seriousness in the matter.

He said the commitment was proven through the efforts of the government to seize a part of the assets confiscated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal amounting to RM5 billion as well as the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023 through the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC). Puad should explain how much public funds he misspent to mislead Malaysians and Malaysian students all over the world that the 1MDB scandal never existed when he was Director-General of JASA from March 2015 to April 2018

(Versi BM)

I have said that I will not waste time on UMNO Supreme Council member, Puad Zakarshi, if he is unable to answer the many queries I have raised about him.

He has not been able to do so, and I have no time for him although he is desperately trying to prove his usefulness to UMNO despite being dropped as an UMNO candidate for Batu Pahat parliamentary constituency in the 2018 general election – after being defeated in the 2013 general election. Puad Zakarshi is proving to be national fraud – making baseless allegations that he knows nothing about, unable to distinguish between right from wrong and pretending not to understand corruption and kleptocracy

The UMNO Supreme Council member, Puad Zarkashi is proving to be a national fraud making baseless allegations that he knows nothing about, unable to distinguish between right from wrong and pretending not to understand corruption and kleptocracy.

His latest outburst against accusing me of being “selective” in pushing for a Royal Commission of Inquiry, saying that I am not the “most hypocritical politician” for being silent on calls for an RCI into other matters, including on former central bank governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and former minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop’s role in the 1MDB scandal, is the best example. Call on Ismail Sabri to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into a July 2015 plot to arrest Prime Minister Najib over the 1MDB scandal at a Cabinet meeting but was foiled a day earlier by the sacking of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Attorney-General Gani Patail

I call on the Prime Minister Ismail Sabri to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into a July 2015 plot to arrest Prime Minister over the 1MDB scandal at a Cabinet meeting but was foiled a day earlier by the sacking of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Attorney-General Gani Patail.

The story of this plot was told in a new book which will hit the bookshops next week – Najib’s former political communications adviser Romen Bose’s “Final Reckoning: An Insider’s View of the Fall of Malaysia’s Barisan Nasional Government”.

Was Najib “promoting national interest” over the 1MDB scandal which was described as “kleptocracy at its worst” causing Malaysia to be in debt for RM39.38 billion which have to be paid by future generations?

Urgent need to have a Parliamentary Select Committee on Corruption and Abuses and Wastage of Public Funds with revelation of RM40 billion to RM60 billion losses due to corruption every year

(Versi BM)

There is an urgent need to have a Parliamentary Select Committee on Corruption and Abuses/Wastage of Public Funds with the revelation of RM40 billion to RM60 billion losses in Malaysia due to corruption every year.

According to #RasuahBusters team leader Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, based on the Global Financial Integrity Report 2017, Malaysia lost a whopping RM1.8 trillion between 2005 and 2014, partly due to corrupt practices that have resulted in illicit financial flows. Read the rest of this entry »

Some fallacies about the Malacca general election result of Nov. 20

(Versi BM)

There are many fallacies about the outcome of the Malacca general election of November 20, 2021.

Firstly, that it was a landslide victory of UMNO and Barisan Nasional, when it was landslide victory of seats but not of votes – as although the BN won two-thirds majority of the state assembly seats, it won only an infinitesimal increase of 0.55 per cent of the 2018 votes cast to secure 38.39% of the votes in the Malacca general election last Saturday. PKR fined RM10,000 for crowdless ceramah is height of idiocy

(Versi BM)

The RM 10,000 fine on PKR for the crowdless ceramah in Paya Rumput, Melaka last night is the height of idiocy in the Covid-19 pandemic for the forthcoming Malacca state general election.

I would have thought Malacca PKR should be commended for coming up with a very novel way of electioneering in the forthcoming general election in Malacca which takes into account the paramount consideration not to worsen the Covid-19 situation and yet further the objective of free, fair and clean election – but instead, there was a $10,000 fine. #kerajaangagal16 – In failing to establish a RCI on IGP Hamid Bador’s serious allegations about corruption and interference with police independence and professionalism, is Muhyiddin a worse Prime Minister than Abdullah Badawi who set up a RCI on Lingam Tapes with regard to illegal fixing of judicial appointments?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ahmad Hamid Bador is ending his tenure as the No. 1 Policeman in the country on Tuesday with more than a flourish as his farewell press conference on Friday outlined what prevented the Royal Police Force from being an independent, professional and world-class police force and what afflicted the Malaysian society, viz:

1. Political intervention in the police force.

The first month of the year 2021 has torn the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s New Year Message into smithereens and turned his five priorities for an integrated Covid recovery into dead promises.

Can we expect a statement from the Prime Minister and the MACC Chief Commissioner on the TI CPI 2020 and a worse TI CPI 2021?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Last week, I asked a Malaysian who had been intimately involved with past Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) reports as to what he expected of TI CPI 2020.

This was his reply: “Drop. Not more than 3 points in score. It takes time to drop significantly since some of the data (surveys) used were 2018/2019. Next year we can big changes.” Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia must go on a war footing in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic – not against any Malaysian or group but against the coronavirus as the country is heading towards a Covid catastrophe

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Malaysia must go on a war footing in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic, not against any Malaysian or group but against the coronavirus as the country is heading towards a Covid catastrophe for three reasons:

Firstly, the surge of coronavirus cases is not being controlled, as the increase of 3,631 new cases yesterday was the ninth day the daily increase of Covid-19 cases exceeded the 3,000-mark (crossing the 4,000-mark for two days in Jan 16 and 20). Read the rest of this entry »
