The public unhappiness, frustration and anger was palpable and tangible in the many MySejahtera technical difficulties faced by the people seeking an appointment to receive Astra Zeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
Although the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has apologised for the confusion and technical hitches, it has yet to regain public trust and confidence.

The outgoing Gombak police chief Arifai Tarawe acted rightly in withdrawing the RM10 million suit against FMT for such an action is consistent with the police claim that it has nothing to hide over A. Ganapathy’s death.
Arifai, who is due to be transferred to Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department on June 21, should ensure that there will be an inquest into A. Ganapathy’s death in police custody.

In response by the query by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council, the Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021 said it has agreed to several “criteria and threshold” in reviewing whether the state of emergency should be continued or not.
However, the committee did not elaborate on the details of the criteria and threshold they agreed to.

I fully endorse the Deputy Speaker, Azalina Othman Said’s reiterated call today for the recovening of Parliament.
I also full endorse her seven-point recommendation on standing operating procedures (SOPs) for Parliament in the war against Covid-19 pandemic, viz:
- To minimise Covid-19 risks: Ensure that all parliamentary staffers are vaccinated including all MPs and senators.
- To minimise unwarranted “drama” in Parliament: No “no confidence” in Parliament during the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic and no early general election unless pandemic is controlled and herd immunity of at least 50 percent is achieved.

#kerajaangagal71 – As Tajuddin will quit when UMNO says so, does this mean that UMNO supreme council does not think Tajuddin’s conduct was insensitive enough and UMNO’s political considerations must prevail?
I am rather intrigued by the statement by the former UMNO leader and Prime Minister who said that Tajuddin Abdul Rahman will apologise for his gaffes and being insensitive at a press conference yesterday on the LRT accident but will resign as Prasarana chairperson “as soon as the Umno supreme council orders all Umno members to let go of their positions at an appropriate time”.
Does this mean that the UMNO supreme council does not think that Tajuddin’s gaffes and insensitivity at his infamous press conference was insensitive enough, and that what was more important were UMNO supreme council’s “political considerations” and UMNO’s political considerations must prevail?

#kerajaangagal70 – The Yang di Pertuan Agong should host an All-Party All-NGOs Conference on the Covid-19 Pandemic to avoid Malaysia from becoming an international poster boy of a nation losing the war against the Covid-19 pandemic
Before Hari Raya Aidilfirtri, Malaysians were sorely offended when the Indonesian Government used Malaysia, together with India, in its admonishment as two countries Indonesians should not emulate for the mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic in its advice to Indonesians to stay home and to take precautions about Covid-19 in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
Now Malaysia has together with India become the two international poster boys of failure in the handling of Covid-19 pandemic, although this is unfair to India, as it had been on a sharp decline since its peak of daily increase of 414,422 new Covid-19 cases on May 6, which fell 53% to a daily increase of 195,815 new Covid-19 cases on 14th May 2021.

What a contrast – the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah warning Malaysians to be prepared for the worst in the Covid-19 pandemic while the worst country in the world in the pandemic, the United States with 34 million Covid-19 cases and over 600,000 Covid-19 deaths, looking forward to the end of the pandemic!
This is the extent of the failure of Malaysia in the mishandling of the war against the Covid-19 pandemic in the last 17 months – akin to the horrible Light Rail Transit (LRT) collision in Kuala Lumpur because a negligent driver drove the LRT in the wrong direction, resulting in three passengers suffering brain haemorrhage, a systemic failure which should never have happened. Yesterday, Yong clarified that the formal letter on behalf of him to the Penang state government pledging to donate two million doses of Covid-19 vaccine was written by a staff member from his company and not by Penang DAP as he had said earlier and he made an apology over the matter.

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, should be mindful of the 18-rung freefall of Malaysia’s 2021 press freedom index and remind his bloated Cabinet to follow his example of tolerating critics including those who call him “stupid”.
It is most unfortunate that the clampdown on press freedom has happened under the charge of the Minister for Communications and Multimedia, Saifuddin Abdullah, who had always presented himself as a liberal and open-minded person who would be in the forefront to champion press freedom instead of doing the very opposite. The new IGP Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani must succeed where seven IGPs before him have failed – to transform the Royal Malaysia Police into a world-class police force and implement the proposal of the Police Royal Commission 16 years ago especially to hold an inquiry into every case of police death in custody.
Sixteen years ago in 2005, the Police Royal Commission headed by a former Chief Justice, Tun Dzaiddin and the longest-serving former IGP, Tun Hanif Omar, said in its report that it viewed with “grave concern the unacceptable high incidence of deaths in custody and the failure by the authorities to hold inquests before magistrates in most of the cases” and proposed that “inquiries must be held by a magistrate into all cases of death in custody within one month of receiving the report of death”.
