Most distressing that grim forecasts of Covid-19 pandemic proved right

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

On November 18, 2020, I warned that if Malaysia continued to surge with four-digit daily increases (and it was in the less than 2,000 category), by the end of the year in 2020, Malaysia will overtake China as a country with more Covid-19 infections!

At that time, China was placed No. 64th country with 86,361 Covid-19 cases and Malaysia was placed No. 85 with 49,730 Covid-19 cases. Read the rest of this entry »

The first month of 2021 has torn Muhyiddin’s New Year Message into smithereens and turned his five priorities for an integrated Covid recovery into dead promises

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The first month of the year 2021 has torn the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s New Year Message into smithereens and turned his five priorities for an integrated Covid recovery into dead promises.

His first priority to “improve public health through the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines with the launch of a nationwide vaccination programme” had been pulverised by two events:

Can we expect a statement from the Prime Minister and the MACC Chief Commissioner on the TI CPI 2020 and a worse TI CPI 2021?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Last week, I asked a Malaysian who had been intimately involved with past Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) reports as to what he expected of TI CPI 2020.

This was his reply: “Drop. Not more than 3 points in score. It takes time to drop significantly since some of the data (surveys) used were 2018/2019. Next year we can big changes.” Read the rest of this entry »

As MCO.2 has failed to bring down the third wave Covid-19 pandemic surge – its time for “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy in the war against Covid-19 pandemic to restore public trust and confidence and a Special Parliament on Covid-19 pandemic

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The partial and later full imposition of movement control order (MCO.2) from January 13-26 has failed to bring down the third wave Covid-19 pandemic surge.

We are the only country in Asia, excluding Indonesia, which is facing a long and serious upsurge of Covid-19 pandemic exceeding four months. Read the rest of this entry »

Special Parliament on the Covid-19 pandemic to work out a strategy for Malaysia to get out of the slippery slope to a failed state in a post-Covid world

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

In his live New Year message, the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed five priorities for the year 2021 in an integrated national recovery strategy post Covid-19.

The Fourth Priority is to “Uphold the country’s sovereignty and strengthen Malaysia’s position on the world stage”.

If we are serious about this priority, then Parliament must be convened in a Special Session on the Covid-19 pandemic to work out a strategy to get Malaysia out of the slippery slope to a failed state in a post-Covid world. Read the rest of this entry »

Reflection a year since Covid-19 – will it End?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

In addressing COVID issues today, apart from looking ahead, we need to look at our rear-view mirror. Malaysians forget easily and need to be reminded repeatedly that we are where we are today due to our government folly. COVID outbreak first started due to a concentration lapse involving the government agencies in managing COVID as the politician battle for power in Feb 2020 (Sheraton Move).

Despite the painful experience of 4 months of MCO that crippled the economy, and we returned to some degree of normalization, the peninsular politicians assaulted the Sabah government to grab power and, in the process brought the disease back to the peninsular states. KKM refusal to enforce quarantine for travelers between the two areas before and after the election is the primary reason why KKM resources are strained today and our economy crippling, and people are burdened again. Furore over KSN attending the PN leaders’ meeting highlighted the sad fact that we are still long way to an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society”” strategy and approach in the war against Covid-19 pandemic

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The furore over the presence of top civil servants during a virtual meeting of party leaders from the Perikatan National government questioned by the DAP MP for Segambut Hannah Yeoh and PKR MP for Tanjong Maluim Chang Lih Kang has highlighted the sad fact that a year after the outbreak, we are still a long way to an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

When will the Chief Secretary Mohd Zuki Ali and the Health Director-General or his deputy brief the Opposition leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu, Shafie Apdal and Mahathir Mohamad on the Covid-19 pandemic and the emergency proclamation, or is the Covid-19 pandemic the sole concern of the Perikatan Nasional government and none of the business of the Opposition parties and the people? Malaysia likely to break the 200,000 Covid-19 cases mark at the end of January and be among the top 50 nations in cumulative total of Covid-19 cases before Chinese New Year

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The daily increase of 4,275 Covid-19 cases yesterday bringing Malaysia’s cumulative total to 180,455 Covid-19 cases and 667 fatalities shows that Malaysia’s serious upsurge is still ferocious and not under control.

If the trajectory of 4,000 daily increase continues, then Malaysia will break the 200,000-mark by the end of January 2021 and we will likely be ranked among the top 50 countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia must go on a war footing in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic – not against any Malaysian or group but against the coronavirus as the country is heading towards a Covid catastrophe

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Malaysia must go on a war footing in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic, not against any Malaysian or group but against the coronavirus as the country is heading towards a Covid catastrophe for three reasons:

Firstly, the surge of coronavirus cases is not being controlled, as the increase of 3,631 new cases yesterday was the ninth day the daily increase of Covid-19 cases exceeded the 3,000-mark (crossing the 4,000-mark for two days in Jan 16 and 20). Read the rest of this entry »

Integration of public and private hospitals next week most welcome as a first step towards an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

I welcome the announcement of the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah that the Health Ministry aims to begin integrating public and private hospitals to treat serious cases of Covid-19 by next week, as it is the first step towards an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic which we should have adopted some ten months ago.

Now that we have started on this process to ensure that we can emerge on top in the war against the Covid-19 epidemic, Malaysia must widen the scope and magnitude of this process to include key players in the private sector – the political parties, the NGOs and the civil society, the SMEs, the corporate sector and even the investors – as well as the immediate convening of a Special Parliament on the Covid-19 pandemic to provide a platform for such a strategy and approach. Malaysia must devise an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against Covid-19 pandemic that will enable Malaysians to live with the coronavirus for one to two years as well as to save lives and livelihoods and prepare for a quick post-Covid recovery

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

In everyone’s perception, the United States of America, with 25 million Covid-19 cases and over 415,000 fatalities, is not only the top country in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases, but the country which is the worst performer on the world stage in war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

No Malaysian would believe or could accept that Malaysia is a worse performer than the United States of America in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic. Read the rest of this entry »

Why has Malaysia become the worst performer Asia in the last two months in the Covid-19 Pandemic — even worse than India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Japan, China and South Korea?

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

Why has Malaysia become the worst performer in Asia in the last two months in the Covid-19 Pandemic — even worse than India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Japan, China and South Korea?

On November 18, 2020, we were ranked No. 85 among countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases, having 49,730 Covid-19 cases, but yesterday, we have jumped 25 places to be ranked No. 60 with 165,371 Covid-19 cases and 619 fatalities.

No other Asian country have recorded such a 25-rank jump in the last two months as shown by the following table: Read the rest of this entry »

Support for the Yang di Pertuan Agong convening a Special Parliament on Covid-19 pandemic

Tomorrow is the US Inauguration Day – the first day of Joe Biden as the 46th US President and the final day of Donald Trump as the 45th US President with a disastrous legacy of 410,000 deaths, 25 million Covid-19 cases and 30,000 falsehoods and lies.

More Americans have died in the last year of Trump’s four-year presidency than the eight years of the Vietnam war where some 58,000 Americans perished, or even the four years when the United States joined the Second World War where some 400,000 Americans perished. Read the rest of this entry »

Sin Chew interview only exposed Annuar Musa as a “Little Trump” purveying disinformation and fake news

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

The Sin Chew interview of the sacked Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa exposed him as a “Little Trump” purveying disinformation and fake news, even when he had been elevated to Ministerial rank

Annuar gave three reasons why UMNO should not ally with DAP.

Annuar is the most hard-core top UMNO leader who had been going around accusing the DAP of being anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Royalty – all despicable lies. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia has been the worst performer in the Covid-19 pandemic on the world stage, jumping 22 rankings among countries with most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases from No. 83 to No. 61 since December 1 – even worse than US, Brazil, UK, France, Turkey, Italy and Spain

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

On 1st December, 2020, I asked: “Will Malaysia overtake China with more cumulative total of Covid-19 cases before or after the end of the present Parliament meeting?”

Unfortunately, Malaysia overtook China before the end of the Parliament meeting on December 16, 2020, with Malaysia positioned as No. 79 with 87,913 cases while China was ranked No. 80 with 86,770 cases (worldometers.info), when China with 1.4 billion population has 40 times the population of Malaysia.

On December 1, Malaysia was ranked No. 83 in the world with 65,697 Covid-19 cases but we have deteriorated by leaps and bounds and today, we are ranked No. 61 with 158,434 Covid-19 cases and 601 fatalities. Read the rest of this entry »

Muhyiddin should allow Parliament to reconvene on March 8 as scheduled as Parliament had continued to function for 35 years through four Prime Ministers from 1977 to 2012 although there were simultaneously four Proclamations of Emergency during the period

Yesterday, I said that the five priorities which the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed in his New Year Message as the basis for an integrated national recovery strategy post-Covid do not stand up to public scrutiny by the first fortnight of the new year.

I referred to Priority Three “to ensure political stability with strong emphasis on good governance as a foundation for sustainable economic recovery” and Priority Four “to uphold the country’s sovereignty and strengthen Malaysia’s position on the world stage”.

Today I will examine the other three Priorities to demonstrate that they also do not stand up to public scrutiny. Read the rest of this entry »

In his New Year Message, the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin listed five priorities for the year 2021 in an integrated national recovery strategy post Covid-19.

But in less than two weeks, these five priorities cannot stand public scrutiny, in particular Priority Three to “ensure political stability with strong emphasis on good governance as a foundation for sustainable economic recovery” and Priority Four to “uphold the country’s sovereignty and strengthen Malaysia’s position on the world stage”. End the “cloak-and-dagger” politics and let all political parties meet and reach a new national consensus that the country’s biggest threat is the Covid-19 pandemic and that there would be no 15GE until the threat is overcome

(Tatal ke bawah untuk kenyataan versi BM)

End the “cloak-and-dagger” politics and let all political parties meet and reach a new national consensus that the country’s biggest threat is the Covid-19 pandemic and that there would be no 15th General Election until the threat is overcome.

The proclamation of an emergency yesterday is the product of such “cloak-and-dagger” politics for it came as a total surprise to the nation apart from the Cabinet Ministers, especially after the Monday address by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin on the re-imposition of movement control order (MCO) on eight states and territories and conditional MCO on six other states, and the continuation of the recovery MCO on the two remaining states.
