Shocked by Jomo’s revelation that Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) never produced a report
Posted by Kit in Good Governance on Tuesday, 28 March 2023
I am shocked by the revelation of Jomo Kwame Sundaram, a member of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) appointed by the Prime Minister of the Pakatan Harapan government formed after the 14th General Election in 2018, that the CEP never produced a report. A report was prepared by the secretariat under former finance minister Daim Zainuddin but there was no report on the entire CEP.
Latiff Abdul Rahman should be given the chance to call a meeting of the PSC on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department in the first week of October , and if he refuses, the other seven members of the PSC should move a motion of no confidence in the Chairman so that a new Chairman could be appointed

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department, Latiff Abdul Rahman, the MP for Kuala Krai, should be given the chance to call a meeting of his PSC in the first week of parliamentary meeting in October, and if he refuses, the other seven members of the PSC should move a motion of no confidence in Latiff as Chairman so that a new Chairman could be appointed.
The PSC on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department has many uncompleted and new business which it could not ignore if it is to be a competent and efficient PSC. These uncompleted and new business include: Read the rest of this entry »
Ismail Sabri shamed by obscene increase of allowances of FGV Holdings Chairman and Directors to do a U-turn on chicken ceiling price but this is still grossly inadequate

The Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri has shamed by the obscene increase in the allowances of FGV Chairman and Directors to do a U-turn on chicken ceiling price and to announce that the government will not allow any increase the water and electricity tariffs in Peninsular Malaysia, but this is still grossly inadequate.
The U-turn cannot justify the obscene increase in the annual allowances of FGV Holdings Bhd Chairman to RM480,000 from RM300,000 and the increase to RM150,000 from RM120,000 for the six Board directors, and I reiterate my call to the Cabinet next Wednesday to issue a directive to freeze all increases of salaries and allowances of Government-linked companies (GLCs) and Government-linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and to sack GLC and GLIC nominees who violate the Cabinet directive.

I call on the Cabinet next Wednesday to issue a directive to freeze all increases of salaries and allowances of Government-linked companies (GLCs) and Government-linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and to sack GLC and GLIC nominees who violate the Cabinet directive.
The Cabinet directive should be presented to Parliament on July 18 for parliamentary sanction.

The call by Yang di Pertuan Agong for post-mortem on floods is an indication that the Ismail Sabri’s government is not functioning despite his cancellation of year-end leave for all his Ministers

The call by the Yang di Pertuan Agong for a post-mortem on the floods disaster in Selangor and Pahang is an indication that the Ismail Sabri government is not functioning, despite his cancellation of year-end leave of all his Ministers.
It raises the question what is use of Ismail Sabri’s cancellation of the year-end leave of his Ministers if all the jumbo-sized Cabinet does is for the Ministers to collect their super salaries and allowances without doing useful or worthwhile work? Read the rest of this entry »
Will Ismail Sabri sack Ministers who defy his instruction to cancel their leave abroad and return immediately to be with the people who are facing hardship?

I commend the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri for his cancellation of the year-end leave application from his cabinet Ministers until after the flood situation had passed.

Has the Ismail Sabri government descended into a kakistocracy where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing?

The claim by the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister Noh Omar that he is still the Selangor state chairman of the National Security Council (NSC) after the Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari claimed that he has resumed the task of the state NSC chief beggars imagination.
Has the Federal Government, which Prime Minister Ismail Sabri gave 90 per cent score to his jumbo-sized Cabinet for its first 100-day performance, quickly descended into a kakistocracy where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing?

#kerajaangagal142 – Parliament must become a War Parliament against Covid-19 Pandemic to assist the Executive, which had been fighting a losing battle this year

I am surprised that the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliament), Takiyuddin Hassan, still insists that Parliament cannot convene so long as emergency is in effect.
This is against Section 14(1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, which states:

#kerajaangagal136 – Malaysia will never win the war against the Covid-19 pandemic if Annuar Musa’s attitude represents the mentality of the Muhyiddin government

I was shocked and dumbfounded to read the Malaysiakini report of what the Federal Territories Minister, Annuar Musa had said at the Harakah Daily forum on the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said it is an indicator that the government has succeeded in managing the pandemic when the people are no longer afraid of Covid-19.

Half-way through the MCO 3.0 “total lockdown”, Covid-19 SOP confusion, flip-flops, U-turns and double standards still reign supreme.
DAP MP for Bangi and DAP Assistant Political Education Director, Ong Kian Ming today issued a statement on 20 issues which are confusing and unsure half-way through the “total lockdown”.

Malaysia is swiftly sliding down the abyss of oppression and authoritarianism – the latest example being the arrest of artist-activist Fahmi Reza.
I join the call for the immediate and unconditional release of Fahmi as political satire is not a crime.
What is most deplorable is the police break-in into Fahmi’s house and damage to the front-door during the arrest. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysia has become almost a kakistocracy when the Cabinet is not bothered about the country’s performance in the Covid-19 pandemic or unconcerned about corruption and lack of professionalism in the police force.
The Cabinet had two historic challenges yesterday – firstly, whether it will advise the Yang di Pertuan Agong to convene Parliament to spearhead a national mobilisation campaign to bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control by Malaysia Day on Sept. 16, 2021 and to be a better performer on the world stage in combating the Covid-19 pandemic; secondly, whether it will set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry on Police Integrity and Professionalism and to turn the Malaysian police into a world-class police force?

Why is Malaysia one of the worst performing countries in bringing the Covid-19 epidemic under control in the last three months?

Although the daily increase of Covid-19 infections have come down to four-digit two- thousand figures in the past five days, far from the peak figures of 5,728 and 5,723 figures on 30th and 29th January respectively, it is disturbing that Malaysia is one of the worst performing countries in bringing the Covid-19 pandemic under control in the past three months.
On Nov. 18, 2020, Malaysia was ranked No. 85 among countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-18 cases.
We have now leapfrogged 40 places in the last three months as we are ranked No. 45 among the countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases. Read the rest of this entry »

From No. 85 on Nov. 18, Malaysia has set a world record and jumped 35 places in two-and-a-half months to be among the top 50 countries with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases
I had expected Malaysia to be ranked among the top 50 countries with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases before the Chinese New Year, but we have achieved this dubious feat a week earlier.
If Malaysia continues in its trajectory of daily increase of more than 4,000 Covid-19 cases, we will be ranked No. 49 today, beating Croatia which has 234,153 cumulative total of cases as compared to Malaysia’s 231,483 Covid-19 cases.

Chinese New Year SOP is best proof of the government’s failure to have an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against Covid-19 pandemic

The Chinese New Year SOP is the best proof of the government’s failure to have a “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against Covid-19 pandemic.
Malaysians who want to give full support to the national strategy to bring the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic under control will also be infuriated and antagonised by the Chinese New Year SOP, as it is a SOP which would not be drawn up by any group which realises that it is essential to regain public confidence, trust and support if Malaysia is not to totally lose control in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic. Furore over KSN attending the PN leaders’ meeting highlighted the sad fact that we are still long way to an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society”” strategy and approach in the war against Covid-19 pandemic

The furore over the presence of top civil servants during a virtual meeting of party leaders from the Perikatan National government questioned by the DAP MP for Segambut Hannah Yeoh and PKR MP for Tanjong Maluim Chang Lih Kang has highlighted the sad fact that a year after the outbreak, we are still a long way to an “all-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy and approach in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic.
When will the Chief Secretary Mohd Zuki Ali and the Health Director-General or his deputy brief the Opposition leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu, Shafie Apdal and Mahathir Mohamad on the Covid-19 pandemic and the emergency proclamation, or is the Covid-19 pandemic the sole concern of the Perikatan Nasional government and none of the business of the Opposition parties and the people? Malaysia likely to break the 200,000 Covid-19 cases mark at the end of January and be among the top 50 nations in cumulative total of Covid-19 cases before Chinese New Year

The daily increase of 4,275 Covid-19 cases yesterday bringing Malaysia’s cumulative total to 180,455 Covid-19 cases and 667 fatalities shows that Malaysia’s serious upsurge is still ferocious and not under control.
If the trajectory of 4,000 daily increase continues, then Malaysia will break the 200,000-mark by the end of January 2021 and we will likely be ranked among the top 50 countries in the world with the most cumulative total of Covid-19 cases. Read the rest of this entry »
