Will the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak set a “wasatiyyah” example and not lead a campaign of lies and falsehoods against the Opposition?
It is most unfortunate that in his UMNO Presidential Speech on Thursday, beating the war-drums for the impending 14th General Election, Najib spearheaded a campaign of lies and falsehoods against the Opposition.
He accused DAP of being anti-Malay and anti-Islam, that “DAP yang terang terang Anti-Melayu dan Islam, sebagai tercatat dalam perlembagaan DAP, langsung tidak meyebut Islam sebagai Agama Persekutuan”. Another Najib argument why the DAP is anti-Malay and anti-Islam is DAP’s commitment for a secular Malaysia.
Present at the 71st UMNO General Assembly opening were the leaders of the other 12 Barisan Nasional component parties, such as MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the Sabah and Sarawak component parties.
Is Najib aware that his baseless attack on the DAP as anti-Malay and anti-Islam applies in equal measure to the 12 other BN component parties, as his criticism that “tercatat dalam perlembagaan, langsung tidak sebut Islam sebagai Agama Persekutuan” applies to all the other 12 BN component parties as well?
Is Najib accusing the other 12 component parties of Barisan Nasional of being anti-Malay and anti-Islam just because of this? Read the rest of this entry »

The forthcoming 14th General Election which would be held in the next few months is a golden opportunity for patriotic Malaysia to cleanse our international image and standing and to regain the respect and admiration of the world for our democracy, economic prowess, integrity and good governance.
A few days ago, I experienced a very humiliating experience when I saw a video of an African leader at an international conference making a joke about corruption in Malaysia.
This is a sign of the slump of Malaysia’s international standing and reputation that instead of Malaysians making Africa the butt of jokes about corruption, Malaysia has become the butt of jokes of Africans in international conferences about corruption and kleptocracy. Read the rest of this entry »
UMNO/BN government caught red-handed in trying to “steal” the 14GE by shifting 1,051 army voters to an uncompleted Segamat military camp

Yesterday, together with the Johor DAP State Chairman and MP for Kluang, Liew Chin Tong, Johor State Assemblyman for Jementah Tan Chen Choon, State Assemblyman for Mengkibol, Tan Hon Ping, State Assemblyman for Bekok, Lim Eng Guan and State Assemblyman for Tangkak, Ee Chin Li, I went to Batu Anam in Segamat to see for myself the UMNO/BN attempt, in cahoots with the Election Commission, to “steal” the 14th General Elections by shifting 1,051 army voters to an uncompleted Segamat military camp to save the MIC President and Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam from defeat in the Segamat parliamentary constituency.
A new military camp at Jalan Pulapol, Segamat was under construction, and it would not be completed until April next year, but 1,051 voters comprising army personnel and spouses have already been shifted there, appearing in the new electoral roll for Segamat parliamentary constituency.

It is an honour and privilege to be here to take part in the dialogue on “Maju Malaysia: Buku Sumber Kebijaksanaan atau Penggugat Keharmonian?” at Summit USJ Mall organized at the initiative of the Office of Hannah Yeoh, Selangor State Assembly Speaker and to have such a distinguished panelists of discussants, namely Pak Samad Said, Dr. Ahmad Farouk Musa, Art Harun and Al-Mustaqeem Mahmud Radhi.
Recently, there had been a spate of bans on books and publications, but the most shocking was the ban in July on the book produced by G25 titled “Breaking the Silence: Voices of Moderation ― Islam in a Constitutional Democracy” in a country founded on the principles of moderation, tolerance, openness and inclusivity and whose Prime Minister has gone to the United Nations General Assembly three times since 2010 to sell his international initiative of a Global Movement of Moderates, which has proved to be neither global, a movement nor moderate.
Early this month, the government banned the latest work of Malaysian cartoonist Junar, whose book “Sapuman: Man of Steal”, making a mockery of Malaysia’s commitment to human rights and freedom of expression. This follows earlier bans on Zunar’s other cartoon books – Gedung Kartun, 1 Funny Malaysia, Isu Dalam Kartun (Vol 1, 2, 3), Conspiracy to Imprison Anwar, Perak Darul Kartun and Pirates of Carry-BN. Zunar’s Ros in Kangkongland and other titles are also investigated under the Sedition Act.
Malaysia also banned the international best-seller “Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty” published in United States in 2011, just after an unpleasantly-enforced end to a lecture tour by Turkish author Mustapha Akyol, who suddenly found himself a “persona non grata” by the religious authorities in Malaysia, subjected to harassment and detention. What in a nutshell is the reason why there must be a change of government in Putrajaya in the next 14th General Election?
Has Malaysia fulfilled our Merdeka Dream 1957 and Malaysia Dream 1963 to be a shining example to the world of an united, successful, harmonious, democratic, progressive and prosperous plural society of diverse races, religions, languages and cultures?
We have not, as we are wracked by growing extremism, intolerance and bigotry resulting in the worst racial and religious polarization in the nation’s history, with more and more Malaysians, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, questioning the violations of the bedrock principles of the Malaysian constitution and nation-building.
What is worse, we have become a global kleptocracy – and this is the first time in the 14 general elections in 60 years of the nation’s history that electorate is being presented starkly with the choice: “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan kleptokrasi”. Read the rest of this entry »

The UMNO Information Chief, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said in an UMNO “Dialogue Perjuangan For All” in Kota Bharu on Friday night that Pakatan Harapan will not be able to uphold and defend Islam in the country because the opposition coalition has been dominated by DAP.
Annuar cannot be more wrong.
DAP will uphold and defend the real values and true teachings of Islam and those of other great religions whether Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism or Sikkhism which are to promote peace, honesty, justice, freedom and solidarity.
A DAP and Pakatan Harapan Federal Government will make Malaysia a model for the world of how people of diverse races, religions, cultures and languages can unite and create a peaceful, harmonious, democratic, progressive and prosperous nation and not to allow a Taliban state as advocated by a few.
It is an indictment of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s nation-building policies that moderation and inclusiveness are suffering attacks and setbacks with the rise of extremism, bigotry and intolerance, to the extent that the Sultan of Johore had to declare publicly that Johore is not a Taliban state. Abdul Rahman should not be a “one trick pony”

Yesterday, the Director of Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan returned to his theme that I will become the Prime Minister if the Opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan wins the next general election in his interview with Channel News Asia.
Abdul Rahman, who is described as “a rising star and a loyalist to Prime Minister Najib Razak” – a description which will be disputed by many who see him as a “falling star”- said neither Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad nor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will lead the country in event of an opposition victory.
He said: “If Pakatan Harapan were to win the next general elections, Lim Kit Siang will be the next Prime Minister, not Tun Dr Mahathir as Lim Kit Siang is always suggesting.
“He (Lim) needs to use Tun Mahathir to win the elections.
“Tun Mahathir can forget about the job. Anwar Ibrahim can forget about the job. It will be Lim Kit Siang. And therefore to understand Malaysian politics, focus on this guy.” Read the rest of this entry »

Is Parti Bumiputra Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to be believed when he said that he turned down the bribe of a place in Oxford University and RM5 million in return for leaving Bersatu.
The UMNO information chief, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Syed Saddiq is not worth RM5 million and that he has a long way to go in politics.
I believe Syed Saddiq is telling the truth.
I do not believe the “movers and shakers” in UMNO today regard Annuar is now worth RM5 million, and this is why Annuar is desperately trying to make himself useful with his nation-wide “4 All” UMNO dialogue programmes.
RM5 million is not a small sum to ordinary Malaysians, but it is just pittance to those who have found that UMNO is the “goose that lays the golden eggs”. Read the rest of this entry »

The Minister for Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak asked if standing up for one’s party to defend it against lies, slander and other attacks makes one a stooge. The answer is “NO’.
Such a question indicate two maladies: Firstly, Salleh’s poor grasp of thinking and logic, for I had never said or implied such a thing.
Secondly, his poor grasp of English, which seems to be an affliction reaching the highest levels of the UMNO/BN Cabinet and leadership.
Salleh never realized that when I said “Sabah has produced to UMNO stooges”, I was referring in the context like the “The Three Stooges”, where Salleh and the Director of BN Strategic Communications and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan played the role of Najib’s court jesters, becoming the laughing stock of the country.
On reflection, I agree that both Salleh and Abdul Rahman Dahlan also qualify for the second meaning of “stooge”, an unthinking underling who will do anything to please his master. Read the rest of this entry »

My first visit and first political programme in Sabah was 48 years ago on May 13, 1969 when I came over from Peninsular Malaysia to help in the campaigning of the independent parliamentary candidate in Kota Kinabalu, and I was to visit Sandakan and Tawau, but the infamous May 13 riots in 1969 broke out in Kuala Lumpur, and the rest is history.
In the past 54 years, Sabah has had 13 Chief Ministers (in contrast with six in Sarawak), but in the past half a century, Sabahans had not enjoyed the fruits of development which Sabahans and Sarawakians had been promised when the federation of Malaysia was formed from the Malaysia Agreement 1963 by Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.
The Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said in Putrajaya today that between August 2016 and August 2017, MACC seized assets worth RM334.53 million.

Tonight’s launch of Johor Pakatan Harapan, comprising the four component parties of DAP, PKR, Amanah and Pribumi Bersatu, is historic for it is the launch of a campaign to establish a new Pakatan Harapan Federal Government in Putrajaya and a new Pakatan Harapan State Government in Johor.
Sixty years ago, we achieved Merdeka on August 31, 2017. We should today be one of the world’s top-class nations in every field of human endeavor as well as an example to the troubled world as to how a nation of diverse races, religions, languages and cultures like Malaysia could succeed as a united, harmonious, just, democratic, progressive and prosperous nation.
Instead, 60 years after Merdeka in 1957, we are in the danger of becoming an international disgrace with Malaysians dragged into the abyss with three problems – worsening economic crisis plaguing the country, most serious racial and religious polarization with the UMNO/BN coalition playing the race and religious card to try to keep themselves in power and Malaysia becoming overnight a global kleptocracy especially because of the international multi-billion dollar 1MDB money-laundering scandal.
Only Pakatan Harapan can save Johor and Malaysia from these triple ills, to ensure that the ordinary people, regardless of race, religion, region, socio-economic status or even politics, fully enjoy the true meaning of Merdeka we achieved 60 years ago. Read the rest of this entry »

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner (MACC) Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said two days ago that the people are watching me to judge my commitment and seriousness towards fighting corruption and abuses of power.
I have been watched by the people for more than half a century, and DAP leaders are prepared to be judged by the people.
But the MACC Chief Commissioner does not seem to realise that the people are watching the MACC under his leadership to judge whether it dares to fight the “sharks” of corruption, or only goes after the “ikan bilis” and the “medium-sized fishes” in its campaign against corruption.’
In his first anniversary as MACC head, Dzulkifli has launched a nation-wide anti-corruption campaign by MACC officials.
Unfortunately, MACC officials only dare to tell the people to “Say No to Corruption” but they dare not say so themselves, in particular on the international multi-billion dollar 1MDB money-laundering scandal which had turned Malaysia overnight into a global kleptocracy.
I challenge Dzulkifli to come to the Pakatan Harapan “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptocrasi” rally in Petaling Jaya on Oct. 14 to tell Malaysians what the MACC under his leadership had done about the No. 1 financial scandal and corruption in Malaysia – the 1MDB scandal. I was in Kuching on Sunday night with former Prime Minister and now Chairman of Pakatan Harapan, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for the launch of the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan, and the support and fervour at the gathering is proof that the country is on the move involving all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, socio-economic status or region, who want to save Malaysia from the trajectory of a failed and a rogue state.
If we love Malaysia, we must unite as Malaysian patriots to save Malaysia from corruption, kleptocracy, injustices, exploitation and the fate of a third-world nation.
Tun Mahathir will speak after me on why we must unite to save Malaysia.
It is public record that Mahathir and I had many great differences during his 22 years as Prime Minister, and Guan Eng and I became “guests of His Majesty’s Government” during his premiership in Operation Lalang dragnet nearly 30 years ago.

Tonight a historic political night for Pahang with the launch of Pahang Pakatan Harapan.
We have with us tonight the Pahang Pakatan Harapan Chairman and PKR Pahang Chairman, Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (MP for Indera Makhota); DAP Pahang Chairman and Pahang Assemblyman for Tanah Rata, Leong Ngah Ngah and DAP Pahang Vice Chairman Tengku Zulpuri Shah b Raja Puji (State Assemblyman for Mentakab); Amanah Pahang Chairman Dr. Hamzah Jaafar and Amanah Pahang Deputy Chairman and Pahang State Assemblyman for Kuala Semantan Syed Hamid Syed Mohamed; Pribumi Bersatu Pahang Chairman, Datuk Salim Salleh as well as the national representatives of the four Pakatan Harapan component parties – Mohamad Sabu, Amanah President; Sdr. William Leong, PKR MP for Selayang and Akramshah Sanusi Junid, Pribumi Bersatu Central Commttee member.
The gathering of the national and state leaders of the four component parties of Pakatan Harapan to launch the Pahang PH wants to send out a clear message to the voters of Pahang – that Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, are on to move to reclaim their democratic right to save Malaysia from kleptocracy and fulfill our Merdeka and Malaysia Dream for Malaysia to be a world-class example of “unity in diversity” where diverse races, religions, languages and cultures can come together to build a democratic, just, progressive and prosperous nation.
There is a great difference between the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan coalitions.
The BN coalition leaders talk in forked tongues – UMNO leaders playing the race and religious cards among the Malays, inciting fears among the Malay voters with lies that DAP and I are anti-Malay and anti-Islam, that Tun Mahathir, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim , Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Mohamad Sabu are all my stooges and can only say and do what I told them to do; but MCA and Gerakan leaders among the Chinese voters try to scare them with a different story, that I am a puppet of Tun Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim.
But we in Pakatan Harapan, whether DAP, PKR, Amanah or PBBM, say the same thing whether to Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans or Ibans – that the time has come for Malaysians regardless of race, religion, region or even politics to unite and as summed up in tonight’s theme, “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptocrasi”. Tonight’s ceramah in Kuching is unique and special, since the re-ignition of new hope and expectations among Malaysians with regard to the next 14th General Election since July 14, following the announcement of a new Pakatan Harapan structure, Pakatan Harapan logo and new PH leadership line-up.
I was with the Pakatan Harapan Chairman, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at the DAP “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” dinner in Penang last night, and today, I flew into Kuching, transiting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Wherever I went today, especially when transiting in KLIA and on arrival in Kuching, there was a throb in the air, a fervor and great expectation with people regardless of region, race or religion coming up to me in anticipation of something significant happening in Kuching today.
This is the why there is such a huge turn-out of the people of Kuching and Sarawak from all communities at the Pakatan Harapan ceramah tonight despite the heavy rain for the soft-launch of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto for Sarawak and Sabah.
The people of Sarawak and Malaysia have been waiting political change, a “New Deal, New Hope” for more than half a century, and they are not going to allow inclement conditions, whether of the weather or the political situation, to stand in the way.

A recent Merdeka Centre National (Youth) Opinion Survey has found that despite being highly dissatisfied with the BN government, the youth in the country are also dispirited with the political system as a whole.
Merdeka Center asked youths how satisfied or dissatisfied they were with the performance of the BN federal government, to which two-thirds – 67 percent – answered that they were dissatisfied.
Only 24 percent said they were satisfied with the government’s performance.
High dissatisfaction rates were registered by respondents across race, urban and rural divides as well as between those registered to vote and those not registered.
The survey, which looked at perceptions of the youth towards the economy, leadership and current issues, also asked respondents about their attitudes towards politics and found that an overwhelming majority (70 percent) were not interested in politics while a similar number of them (71 percent) felt they did not have any influence on the government of the day.
Another key finding from the poll was some 40 percent of respondents were not registered as voters despite being eligible, saying they did not have time to register or they felt that voting did not make a difference.

When I left Malacca in 1986 to contest in Tanjong parliamentary seat in Penang, the objective was to make a bid to capture the Penang State Government.
That was the highest political ambition of the DAP three decades ago.
But we did not succeed in the two serious bids to capture the Penang State Government in the 1990 and 1995 general elections, although we laid the basis for the DAP’s eventual win of the DAP-led Penang State Government in the 2008 and 2013 general elections.
If ten years ago, in 2007, anyone had asked whether it was possible to topple the UMNO/BN coalition government in Malaysia, the answer would a categorical “No” and the questioner would even be viewed as to whether he is a bit crazy to ask such a question.
But there has been a sea-change in the political landscape in Malaysia, and we are aiming not only for a change of Federal Government in Putrajaya, but even talking about a change of government in several states. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysians are on the threshold of the 14th General Elections.
The four parties in the Pakatan Harapan coalition – DAP, PKR, Amanah and Pribumi Bersatu – must give hope and confidence to the voters that in the forthcoming general elections, which could take place within weeks or months, a seismic political change is possible, which includes the change to a Pakatan Harapan government both in Putrajaya and Nusajaya to form a Pakatan Harapan Federal Government as well as a Pakatan Harapan Johore state government.
There are three things a Pakatan Harapan Johore State Government can do if PH is given the mandate to take over Nusajaya in the 14th General Election.
Firstly, I agree with the Chairman of the PPBM Batu Pahat Division, Drs. Mohd Zaid Md Yusuf that there should be a public inquiry into the Johore GLCs to curb the abuses of power, breaches of trust and deviations in the state institutions to ensure that their foremost and primary task is to promote the welfare of the people and not to enrich a few in the state.
Secondly, a Pakatan Harapan must ensure that Johore can become one of the top five states with the highest per capita GDP, and not as at present, when Johore is listed as No. 9 among the list of state GDPs in Malaysia – even below Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Pahang.

We must re-ignite hope among Malaysians to get out of the prevailing sense of hopelessness by stating the truth and not resort to UMNO/BN tactics of lies, fake news and false information

I told a news conference at Taman Mutiara Rini in Gelang Patah on Tuesday two things about the forthcoming general elections:
Firstly, that from the general election results in 2004, 2008 and 2013, UMNO/BN is likely to lose Johor Baru as the sole capital won by UMNO/BN candidates, losing two if not all the three parliamentary constituencies in the Johore capital, namely Tebrau, Pasir Gudang and Johor Baru; and
Secondly, that DAP is keen to contest in one of the three Johor Baru parliamentary constituencies, even the most difficult one of Johor Baru parliamentary constituency, but that the final decision will be made by the Pakatan Harapan leadership.
In the last two days, I had declined questions by the media to discuss critical responses to my statement as I do not want to involve in any public polemics on the matter.
However lies, fake news and false information whether from UMNO/BN or any other quarter cannot be left unchallenged. Read the rest of this entry »

“A Malay swing against the BN of 15% would bring BN’s Malay support to about 50% which would leave BN teetering on a knife’s edge.” said Dr Ong.
How much of a Malay swing against the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) is needed for the opposition Pakatan Harapan to win the upcoming General Elections in Malaysia?
This has been the question asked by many, though on the ground, there is a feel that the BN has lost a significant percentage of support among the Malay community.
But as Dr. Ong Kian Ming Member of Parliament (MP) for Serdang explained in a recent media statement issued from his office as MP, a swing in support from Malays, Chinese and Indians (the largest ethnic groups in Malaysia) has happened before and it would not be surprising if it were to repeat in the next GE.
