The secret letter by the Najib government seeking help from the US CIA in the 14th General Election highlights the question why the Najib administration had not protested or taken any action against the US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions’ public condemnation of the 1MDB corruption scandal at an international forum as “kleptocracy at its worst”.
This was as good as an international indictment of the US government telling the world that Najib, the then Prime Minister, was “kleptocrat at its worst” on the world stage.
Can Najib be in Parliament tomorrow to explain why his government did not defend itself against the “kleptocracy at its worst” charge by the US Government at an international forum last December, but five months later, five days before the 14th General Election, sent a secret letter to the CIA seeking support against Pakatan Harapan in case the election result turned out to be close? BN parties like UMNO, MCA, Gerakan, MIC and SUPP should return a total of RM470 million which they had received from 1MDB to public coffers

Malaysiakini, in its latest microsite, reveals that in total, at least RM470 million went from 1MDB to various political entities through 102 transactions, excluding individuals, between April 2012 and August 2013.
Umno received the lion’s share, at RM417.4 million or 88.8 percent of the funds. The next biggest recipients were MIC at RM20.55 million, and MCA at RM16.5 million.
The money was distributed to various party chapters, wings and even a party-owned library.
The BN parties like UMNO, MCA, Gerakan, MIC and SUPP should return a total of RM470 million which they had received from 1MDB to public coffers if the revelations are true and correct.
UMNO, MCA, MIC and SUPP have Members of Parliament and their MPs should speak up on the Malaysiakini expose in the current debate in Parliament on the motion of thanks for the royal address.

Malaysians woke up to the shock news in Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) that 1MDB scandal mastermind, Penang billionaire Jho Low had stayed in an upscale Hong Kong apartment for months because Malaysia did not make a formal request to authorities there to arrest him.
The Hong Kong newspaper reported that Low and his entourage were “hiding in plain sight” by occupying multiple rooms at the upscale Pacific Place Apartments there.
Four days ago, the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said that Jho Low was in Macau, as the Malaysian police had searched for him in Hong Kong but he had left Hong Kong when the Malaysian police arrived.
Macao does not have extradition treaties with other countries.

The international hunt for Penang playboy billionaire Jho Loh continues.
The latest report is that Jho Low may have left Macau or is seeking asylum from the Chinese territory.
The question that is bugging all Malaysians is who made use of who in the 1MDB “goldmine”- former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak or Jho Low, or was the 1MDB “goldmine” a joint operation by both of them.
In a recent interview with Malaysiakini, Najib spoke for the first time at some length on Jho Low, who was 28-years of age when he first teamed up with Najib, who had just become the sixth Prime Minister in April 2008, to set up the 1MDB “goldmine”.

The 14th Parliament, which is to meet on July 16, must have as one of its priorities the purging of the infamy of the 13th Parliament in failing to defend Malaysia’s international reputation for being regarded as a global kleptocracy by directing the Public Accounts
Committee (PAC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the 1MDB scandal and to submit its report within 12 months.
I have said that the PAC of the 13th Parliament had committed one of Parliament’s greatest national disservice in six decades in allowing its 1MDB report to be distorted as exonerating the then Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, from any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal – when this was not the case.
Instead of unearthing the criminality and monstrosity of the 1MDB scandal, the PAC of the 13th Parliament sought to do a cover-up of the 1MDB scandal and refused to conduct a fuller and more comprehensive investigation when the US Department of Justice (DoJ) kleptocratic litigation suit in July 2016 to forfeit overt US$1 billion of 1MDB-linked assets made public a mountain of new information and evidence about the 1MDB scandal, which was not available when the PAC concluded its 1MDB investigations and submitted its report to Parliament in April 2016. The fourth instalment of the exclusive interview of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak with Malaysiakini has raised even more questions than his three previous instalments.
Najib admitted that he should have been more open on the Auditor-General’s Report on 1MDB instead of placing it under the Official Secrets Act and on hindsight, he would have also implemented 1MDB in a different manner.

One of the highlights of the “live” UMNO Presidential candidates’ debate last night was the admission by Khairy Jamaluddin that one of his regrets in life was to accept the explanation of the 1MDB scandal.
Although he felt there were holes in the explanation provided on 1MDB, Khairy said he accepted the explanations as the investigations that was conducted by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) did not implicate the prime minister at that time.
This is in fact the greatest disservice of the Public Accounts Committee in six decades where, instead of revealing cover-ups, it helped to cover up the greatest financial scandal in the land. Read the rest of this entry »

During the 14th General Election campaign, the 1MDB Chief Executive Officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy toured the country on a national “Tanya Tanya” roadshow, covering over 30 locations, even challenging DAP leaders to ask him questions about what the government claimed was the fake news about the 1MDB international money-laundering scandal.
I said at the the time that nobody was interested in Arul’s fairy tales about the 1MDB scandal, unless the then Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, stepped forward to account fully for the 1MDB “kleptocracy at its worst” which had landed Malaysia with the ignominy, infamy and iniquity as a global kleptocracy!
When he was Prime Minister, especially in the past three years since July 2015 when information about the RM2.6 billion 1MDB monies went into his personal banking accounts first became interntional news, Najib had avoided the subject of the 1MDB scandal like a plague, sub-contracting it to Arul, probably with the highest remuneration the Malaysian government had ever paid to a private person, all at the taxpayers’ expense!
But the 1MDB scandal was no fake news, which the Najib government had tried to make it into one with the Anti-Fake News Act passed hurriedly before the dissolution of Parliament. Read the rest of this entry »

Never before in the history of UMNO Assemblies are there so many elephants in the room which every UMNO leader is strenuously trying to ignore in the UMNO Assemblies this week.
The biggest elephant is undoubtedly the international 1MDB money-laundering scandal, which brought infamy and ignominy to Malaysia as a global kleptocracy, but there are also other elephants in the shoal of mini-1MDB scandals like those affecting MARA, Felda and Tabung Haji.
The 1MDB elephant has continued to grow in size since UMNO/BN was evicted from Putrajaya in the 14th General Election on 9th May 2018, and the UMNO Assemblies this week will be doing UMNO and the nation the greatest disservice if the charade to ignore the 1MDB elephant is continued.
This charade cannot go on, especially after the shocking revelation by one of the Big Four auditors in Malaysia, KPMG, that the accounts of 1MDB cannot be relied on from the time of its inception in 2009 – as it should be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back and make the 1MDB scandal the single biggest issue in the UMNO Assemblies this week. The UMNO Assemblies this week beginning tomorrow present an unbelievably fertile ground for the writing of Greek tragedies and even comedies!
Yesterday, the incumbent contender for the post of UMNO President, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi forecast that Pakatan Harapan will implode before the 15th General Election by 2023 and that UMNO will return to Putrajaya soon without the hassle of having to go through a general election.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is so predictable but he is getting to be slow-witted and slow-paced.
I told my staff yesterday that Najib was sure to come out with a clarification of his Reuters interview on Wednesday and sure he did – but very much later than I had expected. He seems to have become slow-witted and slow-paced, as I had expected his clarification by mid-day yesterday and not till the evening at 6 to 7 pm.
And what a clarification – one of its kind, for it is a clarification which does not clarify but further obfuscates!
Najib denies blaming the 1MDB board for the financial scandal that plagued the state development fund.
His spokesman said Najib was not shifting the blame to the board as reported in the Reuters interview, and “clarified” that what he said was any board had a fiduciary duty to act in best interests, and that the 1MDB board had a duty and responsibility to advise him on the running of the investment fund.
His faceless and nameless spokesman said: “He did not at any time during the interview said that the 1MDB board was to be blame for what had happened.”

Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not only failed to clear his name but has instead impaled himself on the 1MDB scandal with his Reuters interview.
He said he should’nt be blamed for the 1MDB scandal and declared that he knows nothing about money from 1MDB appearing in his personal account.
He claimed that his advisers and the management and board of 1MDB had wrongly kept the alleged embezzlement of funds a secret from him.

At 9 a.m yesterday, I officiated the opening of the constituency centre of the new DAP MP for Segambut Hannah Yeoh at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and received the DAP membership application from 24-year-old activist Heidy Quah, who received the prestigious Young Leaders Award from Queen Elizabeth II in London last year.
Heidy had been involved in advocacy work from a young age, having set up an NGO at age 18 to help refugees from Myanmar, forming the NGO Refuge for The Refugees (RFTR), which she founded with her friend Andrea Prisha.
There was a third item. Standard Six pupil Ervin Devadasan was at the centre with his father Ernest to donate the money he had been saving for months in his piggy bank to purchase a drum set to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.
I was very touched and moved – a 12-year-old primary school kid demonstrating by deed his deep love for the country!
Later that evening, I received a call from a reporter for my reaction to a very unfriendly attack on the boy’s donation, describing Tabung Harapan as a “politically-charged fund” and deploring Ervin’s donation as “ridiculous”, “exploitative”, “a gimmick” and “a pretty cheap stunt”. Malaysia is now in the “eye” of the world to demonstrate how a global kleptocracy can be transformed into a leading nation of integrity.
In the past few years, the opinion leaders and makers of the world must have shaken their heads in sorrow as to how Malaysia – a nation with so much promise, and in the words of Bapa Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman, should become “a beacon of light in a distracted and disturbed world” – had failed the Malaysian Dream and taken the wrong turn in nation-building to become a global kleptocracy, where Malaysians in the Malaysian Diaspora worldwide are ashamed to acknowledge that they are Malaysians and the then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was spoken in the same league as notorious kleptocrats in the world – like Suharto of Indonesia and Marcos of Philippines.
It is to the eternal shame of Malaysia that a Wikipaedia search will find Najib Razak named as the latest new entry of a “kleptocrat”!
Is this why Merdeka was achieved in 1957 and Malaysia was formed in 1963?
In the historic watershed 14th General Election on 9th May, 2018 where Malaysian surprised the world with the first peaceful and democratic transition at a time when democracy throughout the world is suffering a decline, Malaysians have two world historic roles to perform.
Firstly, give confidence to the struggling peoples of the world not to give up hope in the battle for democracy; secondly, to show the world how a global kleptocracy can transform itself into a leading nation in integrity in the world.
Members of Parliament elected on 9th May 2018 have received notification from Parliament that the first meeting of Parliament will be for 20 sittings from 16th July to August 16; that the 30-day 2019 Budget meeting of Parliament will be from Oct.15 to Dec. 11, 2018 with the Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng, presenting the 2019 Budget in Parliament on Friday, 2nd November 2018.
Before the budget debate, nine days have been set aside for debate on the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan.
All MPs regardless of political party should show their commitment when Parliament meets from July 16 to transform Malaysia from a global kleptocracy into a leading nation of integrity in the world.
Will all the MPs from UMNO/BN and PAS support a motion so that all the 222 MPs in Parliament can act in unity and unanimity giving support to the Pakatan Harapan Government’s agenda to transform Malaysia from a global kleptocracy into a leading nation of integrity in the world?
Will all those contesting for posts in the UMNO General Assembly this month, whether for President, Deputy President, Vice President; Youth, Wanita or Puteri leader; or for UMNO Supreme Council or executive council positions in the various UMNO wings, make a public commitment to support Pakatan Harapan Government’s national programme to transform Malaysia from a global kleptocracy into a leading nation of integrity in the world?

My statement yesterday asking who will be the first UMNO leader who dare to speak up what is in the minds of all Malaysians, in fact all patriotic UMNO members, that Datuk Seri Najib Razak must be expelled from UMNO/BN if UMNO/BN is to be exorcised of its two toxic Najib legacies, firstly, turning Malaysia into a global kleptocracy as a result or the monstrous 1MDB money-laundering scandal and secondly, unleashing the most vicious and divisive politics of race, religion, hate, fear and lies in Malaysian history was not directed at Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
The statement was in fact issued several hours before Tengku Razaleigh made the announcement in his 2pm media conference at his residence in Kuala Lumpur yesterday confirming his UMNO presidential bid at the end of the month.
It is a question directed at every UMNO leader and member, particularly those who had served under Datuk Seri Najib Razak, whether as his Minister, Mentri Besar, Member of Parliament, State Executive councillor or State Assembly representative, UMNO leader or member – as to their role and responsibility to UMNO/BN and the nation in the years when Malaysia suffered the infamy, ignominy and iniquity as a global kleptocracy. The Sarawak Report website, whose access was blocked by the Najib government for 34 months from July 2015, alleged in an article in August 2015 that the UMNO/Barisan Nasional Back Benchers Club Chairman, Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samd received RM1 million and Deputy Finance Minister, Ahmad Maslan, received RM2 million from 1MDB from the then Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s infamous RM2.6 billion private banking account.
The Sarawak Report said evidence was starting to emerge that money handed out personally by Najib to UMNO party heads, not only before the election but after, including numerous payments to MPs and many of the recipients proved themselves to be some of Najib’s strongest defenders in the 1MDB crisis.
In my speech at the DAP forum, “Ke Mana Halatuju Malaysia” at the Tropical Inn in Johor Bahru three days later on 17th August 2015, I specifically asked eight Ministers and two deputy ministers to declare the amounts of funds they received from Najib’s infamous RM2.6 billion personal accounts for the 13th General Election campaigning as Shahrir confirmed the Sarawak Report posting. UMNO Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin’s mea culpa in the South China Morning Post that the 1MDB scandal was the cause of UMNO/BN’s “catastrophic” downfall in the 14th General Election is too little and too late.
It however validated the indictments and condemnations that I had made of the various national leaders and institutions both in the run-up to and during the short 11-day campaign of the 14th General Elections.
When the 13th Parliament was dissolved on 7th April 2018, I said in Ayer Hitam that I had not felt so ashamed as a MP in the 13th Parliament although I had been a Member of Parliament for 10 terms from 1969 to 2018, except for the tenth Parliament from 1999 to 2004, spanning 45 years from 1969. The Transport Minister, Anthony Loke shocked Malaysians with his revelation that the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mycom) executive chairman Abdullah Ahmad earns a monthly salary of RM85,000, which is more than four times the basic salary of the Prime Minister.
Malaysians are entltled to know how many of the heads of the tens of thousands of government-linked companies (GLCs) in the country are paid millionaire or near-millionaire salaries.
Let there be transparency and public accountability in the wages of the GLC heads. There should be a website where the salaries and remuneration of all GLC heads and members are easily available to the public.
Out of the tens of thousands of the GLCs in the country, how many of them are filled with political appointees and how many of these UMNO/BN political appointees have resigned since the historic watershed development on May 9, 2018 which saw the first peaceful and democratic transition of power at the federal level in the nation’s history. Najib is right for first time for a long while – it will not only not benefit him at all but will be a great detriment to him to engage in a public discourse on the 1MDB scandal – the greatest global scam of recent times

Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he does not see any benefit in engaging in a public discourse on the 1MDB and that he had been advised that it would be inappropriate to respond to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s questions regarding 1MDB.
Najib is right for the first time for a long while – it will not only not benefit him at all but will be a great detriment to him to engage in a public discourse with Guan Eng or anyone on the 1MDB scandal, undoubtedly the greatest global scam in recent times.
Najib’s survival instinct seems to have kicked in as he had been living in a bubble of his own and that of his highly-paid advisers’ creation, completely divorced from reality.
It is not that Najib is unaware that the 1MDB is his Achilles’ heel but his greatest failure in life is to believe in the fairy tales of his highly-funded advisers that it is possible to bamboozle the country about the 1MDB scandal and that he could prove Hans Christian Anderson wrong and could get away with immunity and impunity by being a modern-day Emperor without clothes! Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali must be prepared to face the sack if he continues to stall from resigning honourably and with dignity as Attorney-General.
It is coming to three weeks since the watershed development of May 9, 2018 and his refusal to resign as Attorney-General is nothing but a most untenable, unseemly and even indecent hanging on to the office of Attorney-General although he knows that the historic vote on May 9, 2018 was not only a thumping verdict of no confidence in Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Prime Minister but also on him as Attorney-General.
The constitutional stalemate is in fact a reflection that he should not have been appointed as Attorney-General in the first place in the disastrous last week of July 2015.
To save him from further ignominy, Apandi should not exploit the constitutional niceties and loopholes but resolve the three-week constitutional stalemate by submitting his resignation without any ado.
What does Apandi think he has to gain from prolonging such a constitutional stalemate?
