Australian newspaper, The Australian, today published a report headlined “Law threat to harpoon Billion Dollar Whale” on efforts by Jho Low through his lawyers to stop the sale of the 1MDB book, “Billion Dollar Whale” by Wall Street Journal reporters Tom Wright and Bradley Hope.
It reported that Low’s local lawyers, Mark O’Brien Legal have written to Australian booksellers threatening to sue for defamation unless they agree not to sell the book and to take a synopsis of the book down from their websites. Read the rest of this entry »

News reports that fugitive billionaire Jho Low had overhauled his personal website to focus on rebutting allegations against him in connection with the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal kept gnawing at me in the five-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth.
Why had Jho Low, described by two authors of the latest best-selling book on the 1MDB scandal, journalists of Wall Street Journal, Tom Wright and Bradley Hope in their book “Billion Dollar Whale” as “a silver-tongued con man”, made such a belated attempt at self-defence over the 1MDB scandal at such a late stage – five years after Clare Rewcastle Brown started digging up the 1MDB scandal, culminating in another best-seller on the 1MDB scandal, “The Sarawak Report – The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose”; more than three years after the Wall Street Journal expose of the RM2.6 billion donation in former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts; and more than two years after the US Department of Justice (DoJ) largest kleptocratic litigation to eventually forfeit US$1.7 billion of US$4.5 billion of 1MDB-linked assets transacted through United States financial system? What a pity, Mah should resign over national issues such as protesting the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy under Najib’s premiership instead of over any personal matter

What a pity! Datuk Mah Siew Keong should have resigned as Gerakan President over national issues such as protesting the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy under Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s premiership instead of over any personal matter.
If Mah had done the former, he would have the sympathy, support and solidarity of all thinking patriotic Malaysians, as he would be doing something which a patriotic Malaysian should have done long ago, but I am not sure he would gain similar public sympathy, support and solidarity in resigning as Gerakan President for a personal matter.
Mah had resigned as Gerakan President with immediate effect when officiating the 43rd Gerakan Negri Sembilan annual assembly this morning, on the ground that he had promised to do so if the party’s performance in the 14GE was worse than its previous showing.
This is the fundamental problem with Gerakan and Barisan Nasional leaders – they cannot see the wood for the trees.
This is all the more so at a time when two books on the 1MDB scandal had hit the bookstores and no Malaysian can claim that the 1MDB scandal is just “fake news” and part of an international plot by diabolical forces to topple Najib from power!
The two books are Clare Rewcastle Brown’s “The Sarawak Report – The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose” and Wall Street Journal’s two award-winning journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope’s “Billion Dollar Whale”.
As I said in Teluk Intan yesterday when officiating the opening of the DAP Service Centre of the DAP MP and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Nga Kor Ming and Perak State Assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar Terence Naidu, the more I read the two books, the angrier I became.
I believe that all Malaysian will share my feeling when reading Clare Rewcastle-Brown and Tom Wright/Bradley Hope’s two books on the 1MDB scandal, the more you read and angrier you become, at how tens of billions of Malaysian ringgit and the future of the present and future generations of Malaysians could be so easily and irresponsibly stolen and pawned away!
It is indeed the heist of the rights and interests of future generations of Malaysians!
I thought I had known more than ordinary Malaysians about the criminality and moral turpitude of the 1MDB scandal, but I was completely floored by the scale and scope of the immorality and brazenness of the two protagonists of the 1MDB scandal which transformed Malaysia into a global kleptocracy as revealed by these two books – Najib and Jho Low.
Former US Ambassador to Malaysia, John Mallot, is right – the 1MDB scandal is even worse than what one had thought.
As John Mallot wrote in his recent article on “Billion Dollar Whale”:
“”The authors describe in great and fascinating detail how Jho Low, with Najib’s connivance, was able to steal over US$5 billion from 1MDB – and therefore from the Malaysian people. Jho Low put Malaysia on the map, but for all the wrong reasons.
“”The Najib in this book is incompetent and uncaring and doesn’t care to learn the details – as long as he gets money for his political purposes, and as long as his wife, Rosmah, is happy and gets what she wants. He knew Jho Low was stealing, but he didn’t know how much. As for Rosmah, what mattered most was the millions of dollars worth of Birkin bags and jewellery, funded by money stolen from 1MDB.”
John Mallot rightly pointed out: “The authors talk about Imelda Marcos and the 1,100 pairs of shoes that were found after Ferdinand Marcos was overthrown in the Philippines.
“But even if each pair of shoes was worth US$1,000, that still is only a million dollars. The Malaysian police say that all the ‘loot’ confiscated from the Najib family home and condos added up to US$273 million.”
I said in Teluk Intan yesterday that my conclusion after reading the two books on the 1MDB scandal was “How could the political and government leaders in the Najib government, whether Ministers, Members of Parliament, top government officials or UMNO/MCA/MIC/Gerakan/Barisan Nasional leaders at all levels, from national to state to local, be so blind to the criminality and moral turpitude in the 1MDB scandal committed since 2009”.
Those who claim that the 1MDB is fake news, an elaborate international conspiracy to topple a freely-elected Prime Minister in Malaysia, should just read these two books.
All political and government leaders, whether Ministers, Members of Parliament, top government officials or UMNO/MCA/MIC/Gerakan/Barisan Nasional leaders at all levels, from national to state to local, under Najib’s premiership were guilty of aiding and abetting Najib in the crime and corruption of the 1MDB scandal, and should apologise and repent for their betrayal of the nation and people by their silence and inaction – and the least they should do is to withdraw from public office for they have proved unworthy leaders of the Malaysian people and nation.
Mah’s resignation, without lodging a single protest at the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia’s infamy for being regarded as a global kleptocracy, is a great disservice to Gerakan and himself.
Will there be anybody in the Gerakan leadership who will resign from all public office in repentence and shame in aiding and abetting Najib in the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal resulting in Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy?

The 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 had not just achieved the peaceful, democratic and historic result of changing the Federal Government for the first time in the nation’s 61-year history, it had changed Malaysia in many ways.
For one, two books this week on the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal would have been banned in Malaysia and Malaysians would have to get them overseas and smuggle them into country to share the sordid tales of crime and corruption of powerful people in Malaysia!

Will the sixth Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, have to spend the rest of his life in jail if former El Salvadoran President Elias Antonia Saca gets 10-year prison term for RM1.2 billion graft as Najib’s 1MDB corruption scandal runs into tens fo billions of ringgit!
It was reported today that a court in El Salvador had sentenced former president Saca to ten years in prison for diverting US$301 million (RM1.2 billion) from state coffers during his term and being guilty of the crimes of embezzlement, money, and asset laundering.
Saca’s former private secretary Elmer Charlaix was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for the same crimes, while the Communications Secretary Julio Rank, and the president of the state water company, Cesar Funes, were sentenced to five years in prison.
Saca was tried along with six of his collaborators in the public funds theft case.
In a plea-bargaining deal, the former El Salvador president agreed to having committed crimes of embezzlement, money, and asset laundering, in exchange for the 10-year term. He faced a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Read the rest of this entry »

What cheek and unrepentant immorality and insolence that former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak could insist that I admit that he had received RM2.6 billion donation from a Saudi Prince, when the best answer to his pathetic effort at documentary exoneration on Monday was made by Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) award-winning journalists, Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, whose exposes on the 1MDB scandal in their book “Billion Dollar Whale” will hit the Malaysian bookstores next week.
Tom Wright and Bradley Hope took Najib to task for his blog on Monday regarding how he received donations from the Saudi royal family.
Wright and Hope said Najib was not offering anything new with his disclosure of documents pertaining to donations from the Saudi royal family received in 2011.

Singapore’s return to Malaysia of RM46 million unlawfully misappropriated from 1MDB and its former subsidiaries should be powerful reminder that the 1MDB global kleptocracy is not going to go away and unless MCA and UMNO leaders apologise and repent for aiding and abetting former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the 1MDB corruption scandal, there is no future for MCA and UMNO.
Efforts to recover other unlawfully misappropriated assets in the 1MDB scandal are ongoing not only in Singapore, but in many countries, including the United States and Switzerland and will continue to periodically catch international headlines and remind Malaysians of the criminality and moral turpitude of the 1MDB global kleptocracy. When I campaigned for Wong Siew Ki, the DAP/Pakatan Harapan candidate for Balakong by-election in Selangor, in Balakong new village and Cheras Batu 11 yesterday, I said among other things that MCA did not qualify for the task of providing a check and balance against Pakatan Harapan as it has no credibility, unless it is prepared to reform and start over by admitting and apologisung for aiding and abetting former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the monstrous crime of corruption, like the 1MDB scandal, and condemn Najib over the scandal.
The MCA leadership has replied to my comment but it remained studiously and thunderingly silent about the global scandal of 1MDB.
Why is this so?

Like a breath of fresh air, Khaled is asking Najib to come clean on Jho Low

Its like a breath of fresh air on the acrid subject of the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal – not only someone echoing what I have been trying to bell the cat with regard to the strange and extraordinary relationship between former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Penang playboy billionaire Jho Low, but someone from the UMNO leadership doing so!
Yesterday, UMNO Vice President Khaled Nordin said Najib and his family must volunteer any information they may have on fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho so they may clear their names smeared with allegations relating to the 1MDB scandal.

The 20-day first meeting of the 14th Parliament ended yesterday on a high note with unanimous passage of the motion directing the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat and for all related information to be made public.
This will be unthinkable in the 13th Parliament. In fact, such a motion would not see the light of day, like my motion at the last meeting of the 13th Parliament in March/April 2018 to find the PAC Report unsatisfactory and to direct the PAC to conduct a “fuller and more comprehensive investigation into the 1MDB scandal which had brought Malaysia the 3Is – infamy, ignominy and iniquity – of a global kleptocracy”.
It is quite remarkable that there is a change of mindset among Opposition MPs, as UMNO/BN MPs would have fought tooth-and-nail to stymie any comprehensive investigation into the 1MDB scandal in the 13th Parliament.
In fact, I was suspended from Parliament for six months each in the 13th Parliament, turned into a “parliamentary ghost” and as I said in Parliament yesterday, I was never more ashamed as a Member of Parliament during the 13th Parliament as there was a conspiracy where the 1MDB scandal was elevated into a taboo subject, where questions could not be asked or motions moved. I am completely baffled by the reaction of the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak that it is okay for the Public Accounts Committee to re-open its probe into 1MDB but it should not focus on finding faults.
Is Najib grounded in reality or living in a world of his own delusion that the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal is all fake news and that the US Department of Justice litigation on what the United States Attorney-General described as “kleptocracy at its worst” simply does not exist?
The Finance Minister today gave notice of a motion directing the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat and for all related information to be made public.
Surely Najib cannot be so obtuse or befuddled by delusion as not to understand the far-reaching implications of this motion when it is passed by Parliament tomorrow.

I am shocked by the statement of former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who said yesterday that if 1MDB masterrmind Jho Low had obtained the Equanimity luxury superyacht illegally, as using money that wasn’t his, Jho Low needs to be held accountable.
Is Najib claiming that as Prime Minister, he had not read the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) expanded kleptocratic litigation papers filed in California in June 2017 which explained in great detail how Jho Low had bought Equanimity with embezzled 1MDB funds and which is easily accessible on the Internet?
If Najib, as Malaysian Prime Minister, had not read the US DoJ’s 1MDB litigation papers, which the US Attorney-General had told an interntional conference as “kleptocracy at its worst”, detailing in 251 pages in great detail how Jho Low had embezzled, misappropriated and money-laundered tens of billions of 1MDB funds, then Najib was not fit to be Prime Minister in the first place.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision yesterday dismissing Najib Razak’s application for a gag order on the media and public with regard to discussing the merits of his corruption case is in keeping with a New Malaysia unlike the era before the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 where all the instruments of state were abused to suppress the infamy and ignominy of Malaysia as a global kleptocracy.
Before May 9, 2018, all the instruments of state were bent and suborned to keep from the Malaysian public the monstrosity of the criminality and moral turpitude of the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal.
Top Government officials who refused to aid and abet in the cover-up of the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal like the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yusof and the Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail were either sacked, removed from office or browbeaten into silence.
Government agencies were used to persecute and harass voices which continued to raise questions about the 1MDB scandal, like the censorship of Sarawak Report website and other internet sites while the mass media was closely monitored to censor all news about 1MDB.
MPs were prohibited from asking questions or pursuing the 1MDB scandal, and I was twice suspended for six months from the 13th Parliament while in the last week of the 13th Parliament, I was treated like a “parliamentary ghost” with the Speaker and Deputy Speakers claiming that they could not see me when I entered the parliamentary chamber.
Judicial independence and professionalism came under threat as legal proceedings were launched to shut out all information about the 1MDB scandal.
In the last meeting of Parliament in March, 2018, Najib rammed through the Anti-Fake News Bill which was nothing but a Save Najib from 1MDB Scandal Bill, to criminalise all news about the 1MDB scandal in Malaysia which was available worldwide and punishable as fake news with excessive penalties of RM500,000 fine, 10 years jail or both.
Three events foiled the well-planned scheme of immunity and impunity of the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak who would otherwise get away with the world’s worst kleptocracy in the international 1MDB money-laundering scandal.
The first event was in July 2016 – the kleptocratic litigation of the US Department of Justice (DoJ) to forfeit over US$1 billion of 1MDB-linked assets in the United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland from over US$3 billion international embezzlement, misappropriation and money-laundering of 1MDB funds.
The second was the victory of Donald Trump and defeat of Hilary Clinton in the US Presidential elections in November 2016, for the campaign that was cranked up by Najib’s highly-paid propaganda advisers to paint the US DoJ kleptocratic litigation as part of an international “liberal” conspiracy (with the support of so-called unpatriotic Malaysians) to topple Najib and the UMNO/BN Government in Malaysia collapsed when Trump unexpectedly defeated Hilary and became the US President.
Najib had studiously presented himself as a “golfing buddy” and “favourite Prime Minister” of Trump, with Najib having a signed photograph of Trump on his desk, and after Trump’s presidential victory, there was speculation that Najib would leverage on his special relationship with Trump to quash or withdraw the US DoJ litigation suit on 1MDB.
But this proved to be futile when in June 2017 (under Trump’s US Presidency), the US DoJ expanded its 1MDB kleptocratic litigation to forfeit another US$540 million of assets stolen from 1MDB, i.e. US$1.7 billion 1MDB-linked assets from US$4.5 billion embezzelement of 1MDB funds.
Najib completely misread the system of American democracy and government – that the professionalism of various institutions of government, like the US DoJ, are not affected with the political change of the US President – a necessary check-and-balance mechanism to preserve the independence and professionalism of different national institutions which are sorely needed in Malaysia.
The third event was the historic and watershed 14th General Election on May 9, 2018, which brought in a new Pakatan Harapan government in Putrajaya, and enabled Malaysians to learn of the enormity of the criminality and moral turpitude in the 1MDB scandal, which made Malaysia into a global kleptocracry overnight.
In Parliament next week, there is a bill to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act, another step to build a New Malaysia where all the instruments of state must be designed to promote democracy, justice and good governance and not to hide scandalous crimes of corruption, embezzlement and money-laundering like the 1MDB scandal.
On May 9, 2018, Malaysians took to the world stage to set the world an example of peaceful and democratic change of government.
We must next take the world stage to show that we are capable of transforming from a global kleptocracy into a leading nation of integrity within a short span of time.

The furore over the video of former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamad’s speech in 2011 over the RM24 million diamond ring has only focussed national attention on 1MDB scandal mastermind, Jho Loh’s RM144 million 22-carat rare pink diamond necklace for the wife of the then Prime Minister, Rosmah Mansor.
Most Malaysians have forgotten about the RM24 million diamond ring episode as what they remember is the infamous US$27.3 million (RM144 million) 22-carat rare pink diamond set in a necklace, which the US Department of Justice alleged was bought by Malaysian billionaire, Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, the other “king pin” of the 1MDB scandal, with stolen 1MDB money for the wife of “Malaysian Official 1” (MO1).

Parliament Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof’s lifting of the ban on MPs from questioning and debating the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal is an important step to restore the doctrine of separation of powers and public respect for Parliament as the highest political chamber in the land.
It also cries out for the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to answer the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) litigation suit with contained many grave charges of corruption and money-laundering against him, as he was identified as “MALAYSIAN OFFICIAL 1 (MO1)”.
Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications Director and former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Economic Planning Unit, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, had admitted at the BBC interview in September 2016 that “MO1” is Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and that only an idiot does not know that “MO1” is Najib.
All who had served as Ministers in the Cabinet government in the past two years should declare whether they were “idiots” or they had known all along that Najib was “MO1” who was cited 26 times in the US DOJ 1MDB litigation suit and they were only putting up a great pretence of ignorance to the Malaysian people? Former UMNO/Barisan Nasional Ministers and officials have followed the example of the first two BN speakers, Zahid Hamidi and Wee Ka Siong, in the continuing debate on the royal address in Parliament to shroud the international 1MDB money-laundering scandal in a conspiracy of silence, deploying all sleights-of-hand and employing all possible stratagems and devices to do so, as illustrated by the following:
Firstly, staging of a 65th birthday bash in Parliament House for Datuk Seri Najib Razak, which had never happened in Najib’s nine-year premiership and the testimonial by his wife, Rosmah Mansoh, that Najib is “a very truthful man and he is on the right path” – a testimonial and the person giving the testimonial which very few in Malaysia or the world would regard as credible at all.
Secondly, Wee Ka Siong creating a mountain out of a molehill claiming that the Prime Minister’s replying to a parliamentary question on behalf of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng could be because of Guan Eng’s incompetence or Tun Dr. Mahathir’s lack of confidence in Guan Eng.
In fact, there was nothing wrong in what happened as Mahahtir would be the proper person to answer Zahid’s question about Japanese loans as it was Mahathir himself who during his visit to Japan in the middle of last month had raised the subject of Japanese yen credit in the form of soft loans partly to retire old loans to offset high borrowing costs. In fact, the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, Zahid Hamidi, might have wrongly directed his question to the Finance Minister.
But what eclipsed both these incidents were the denial by Najib of signing off RM470 million from 1MDB to UMNO/BN parties – for how is this to square with former UMNO Minister and Barisan Nasional Back Benchers’ Club Tan Sri Shahrir Samad’s admission of receiving RM1 million from Najib after Sarawak Report revealed in August 2015 that Najib had distributed 1MDB monies of RM1 million to Shahrir and RM2 million to UMNO Deputy Minister, Datuk Ahmad Maslan after the 13th General Election. It is time for Najib to make a clean breast of his involvement in the 1MDB corruption scandal in the Parliament debate tomorrow

Yesterday I asked whether the letter which Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s secret spy chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid wrote as director-general of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) to the CIA seeking support against Pakatan Harapan on 4th May if the 14th General Election result turned out to be close was related to the reason why the Najib administration had not protested or taken any action against the US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions’ public condemnation of the 1MDB corruption scandal at an international forum as “kleptocracy at its worst”.
Jeff Session’s condemnation was a very serious matter, as it was as good as an international indictment of the US government that Najib, the then Prime Minister named as “MALAYSIAN OFFICIAL 1 (MO1)” in the US Department of Justice (DoJ) litigation on 1MDB, was “kleptocrat at the worst” on the world stage.
I had continued to ponder on the question why in the past three years, the Najib government had not made a hue-and-cry at international forums at being unfairly regarded worldwide as a global kleptocracy, launching even an all-party international initiative to the United Nations and countries all over the world to defend and clear Malaysia’s reputation from the infamy, ignominy and iniquity of a global kleptocracy?
