Congrats to KJ for reaching a new low for daily new Covid-19 cases when 4,343 Covid-19 cases and 35 Covid-19 deaths were recorded yesterday
Congrats to the Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for reaching a new low for daily new Covid-19 cases when 4,343 Covid-19 cases and 35 Covid-19 deaths were recorded in Malaysia yesterday, but why is the reduction of daily new Covid-19 cases and daily Covid-19 deaths such an agonisingly slow process as compared to other countries like Indonesia and India?
For daily new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia has fallen from the peak of 24,599 cases on August 26 to 4,343 cases yesterday, while daily Covid-19 deaths have fallen from the peak of 592 deaths recorded on Sept. 11 to 35 deaths yesterday – but still a long way from double-digit figure for daily new Covid-19 cases and single-digit number for daily Covid-19 deaths for Malaysia “to live with Covid”. As Khairy is over two-thirds in his first 100 Days as the new Health Minister, is the reduction of daily new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia to less than 500 cases still on target as his 100-day PKI?
I am reading the two-volume report of the Parliament Special Select Committee on Health, Science and Innovation which was tabled in Parliament this week, comprising the recommendations of the Parliament Special Select Committee and the transcripts of six meetings of the Select Committee from July 23, 2021 to October 4, 2021.
Among those who appeared before the Select Committee in these six meetings were Khairy Jamaluddin on 14th September, 16 days after he was sworn in as Health Minister; Mohd Shafiq bin Abdullah, Secretary-General of Health Ministry; Noor Hisham bin Abdulah, Health Director-General; Dr. Abu Bakar Suleiman (Chairman of Health and Sciences Covid-19 Advisory Group of Experts EAG) and public and private health experts.

Election Commission should draw up separate SOPs for the four phases of the NRP to demonstrate its is mindful of its duty to conduct free, fair and clean elections
From Monday, five more states currently under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) will transition to the final Phase 4 for full re-opening, leaving Kelantan and Sarawak as the only states still in Phase 3.
Compared to Phase 3, Phase 4 has fewer restrictions for curtailing the spread of Covid-19, such as by allowing social functions such as wedding receptions to take place albeit with certain precautions still in place. Read the rest of this entry »
Formulation of Covid-19 SOPs for Malacca and Sarawak general elections should not be abused but should strike a proper balance between ensuring free, fair and clean election and preventing the spread of Covid-19 infections
Yesterday, the emergency in Sarawak was lifted and the Election Commission is set to conduct the 12th Sarawak state general election within 60 days.
Election Commission Secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said that in accordance with Section 2(2) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (Sarawak) Ordinance 2021, the Sarawak state assembly is automatically dissolved when the emergency is lifted.

Let Deepavali this year mark a new beginning for mankind after the ravages and destruction of the 22-month Covid-19 pandemic
More than five million lives in the world have been lost in the Covid-19 pandemic but health experts and the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimate that the true toll could be far higher – two to three times higher than the official records.
By the first week of November, the global cumulative total of Covid-19 cases would have reached 250 million cases. Read the rest of this entry »
Government should adopt the 5,000 children orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic which had killed more than 29,000 people by setting up a special orphanage responsible for their education from primary to university level as well as all their welfare needs
The cumulative death toll of the 22-month Covid-19 pandemic has passed the 29,000-mark and some 5,000 children had been orphaned as a result of the loss of their parents who perished in the pandemic.
It took 13 months for Malaysia to record the first 1,000 death on February 17, 2021, but it has taken two weeks to record the last thousand deaths from 28,000 to 29,000 Covid-19 deaths. Read the rest of this entry »
Matters of concern that Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 death figures have yesterday risen to 65 deaths after two days of reduced numbers and the Brought-in-Dead (BID) Covid-19 deaths are again in double-digit figures
The 2022 Budget presented by the Finance Minster, Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz to Parliament on Friday was one major exercise of denial syndrome where the Ismail Sabri government refused to face up to the fact that until the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Prime Minister and the four Pakatan Harapan leaders on Sept. 13, 2021, Malaysia had lost the war against the Covid-19 pandemic, especially from the declaration of Emergency on January 11, 2021.
When the 2021 Budget was presented by Tengku Zafrul in the Muhyiddin Government on Nov. 6, 2020, there were cumulative totals of 38,189 Covid-19 cases and 279 Covid-19 deaths.

Health Ministry should not just give empty warnings but should punish the two former Prime Ministers, Najib and Muhyiddin for defying the ban on physical election activities in Malacca through “disguised” programmes or scrap the ban and invite Election Commission and all political parties on the SOPs that should be followed
The Health Ministry should not just give empty warnings but should punish the two former Prime Ministers, Najib Razak and Muhyiddin Yassin, for flouting its ban against physical election campaigns in Malacca through various forms of “disguised” activities.
What is the use of the Health Ministry having officers in the state monitoring activities in Malacca towards the state election, if there is going to be a new form of Dua Darjat – one for the ruling parties and the other for the opposition? Read the rest of this entry »
Most meaningful to celebrate Deepavali on Thursday as yesterday’s 44 daily Covid-19 death figures lowest in more than five months and BID Covid-19 deaths becoming a rare phenomenon
It is most meaningful to celebrate Deepavali on Thursday as yesterday’s 44 daily Covid-19 death figure is the lowest in more than five months and Brought-in-DEAD (BID) Covid-19 deaths have been reduced to four, a step before BID Covid-19 deaths become a rare phenomenon in Malaysia.
Light is prevailing over darkness in the Covid-19 war, as the confidence-supply-reform (CSR) memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Prime Minister Ismail Sabri and the Pakatan Harapan leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu and Wilfred Madius Tangau on Sept. 13 had intended. The Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Tengku Azz presented the 2021 Budget in Parliament on Nov. 6, 2020 entitled “Resilient as One, Together we Triumph” with the largest budget of RM322 billion to help the country cope with the economic impact of Covid-19 pandemic, but it was of no help when the country plunged into hellish conditions when an emergency was declared on January 11, 2021.
This is clear from the fact that when the emergency was declared on 11th January 2021, the cumulative totals of 138,224 Covid-19 cases and 555 deaths shot exponentially to 2,460,809 Covid-19 cases and 28,832 deaths yesterday when Tengku Zafrul presented his 2022 budget in Parliament. As 2021 Budget was a catastrophe in the war against Covid-19 pandemic, the 2022 Budget must prove to be otherwise

I got a shock when I opened the Economic Report 2022, the key Budget 2022 paper presented by the Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, to Members of Parliament yesterday.
I could not believe it when I read the first paragraph of the foreword by the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri which said: Read the rest of this entry »

The Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, will present the 2022 Budget, expected to be the largest budget in the nation’s history, in Parliament this afternoon.
The immediate question is: Will, and how soon, the largest 2022 Budget in nation’s history, undo the ravages to the lives and livelihoods of Malaysians in the past year as one of the worst performing nations in the world in Covid-19 pandemic? Read the rest of this entry »

Agony to see Malaysia’s slow reduction of daily new Covid-19 cases struggling to go below the 4,000-case figure while Indonesia has been recording triple-digit numbers for 12 consecutive days
It is an agony to see Malaysia’s slow reduction of daily new Covid-19 cases struggling to go below the 4,000-case figure while Indonesia, with more than eight times the population of Malaysia, has been recording triple-digit numbers for 12 consecutive days.
It is a dire warning of the signs of the times – the slackening competitiveness of the Malaysian economy as compared to Indonesia, and the narrowing of the gap in democratic freedoms, the rule of law and good governance between the two countries.

Health Ministry should produce SOPs for election for all the four phases of NRP and not just for one phase and ensure that there is no Dua Darjat in their implementation
The Health Ministry should produce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for election for all the four phases of the National Recovery Plan in Malaysia and ensure that there is no Dua Darjat in their implementation instead of arbitrarily banning all physical gatherings and social events related to the Malacca state general election from Oct 25 to Nov. 27.
While responsible Malaysians are mindful of the need to reduce the risk of new Covid-19 infections, the Covid-19 pandemic should not be an excuse to ban all physical gatherings and social events which comply with the SOPs. Read the rest of this entry »
Mixed feelings over Covid-19 stats yesterday – glad that number of new Covid-19 cases achieved another slow breakthrough of 4,782 cases but concern at the still high fatality numbers of 92 daily deaths
The Covid-19 statistics yesterday is a cause for mixed feelings – glad that the number of new Covid-19 cases achieved another slow breakthrough of 4,783 cases but concern at the still high fatality numbers of 92 daily deaths.
Although the new case count is the lowest in 125 days since June 22, we are reducing the daily new cases at an agonisingly slow pace. Read the rest of this entry »
