Time to restore decency and civility to politics and public life

When the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib spoke about “uncivilized enemies” who will lead Malaysia to ruin at the UMNO anniversary gathering at the Bukit Jalil Stadium last Friday, Malaysians immediately thought of two “uncivilized” acts which occurred only the day before – the Perkasa “funeral rite” in front of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s house in Penang and the setting up of a burger stall in front of the house of Bersih 2.0 co-chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan’s house at Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

Since then there had been a third “uncivilized” act which had never happened before in Malaysian politics and public life in the nation’s 54-year history – the utterly insensitive and deplorable “butt” dance by a group of armed forces veteran in front of Ambiga’s house two days ago, with the promise of more and bigger “uncivilized” actions to come!

What is most shocking is that these “uncivilised” actions had at first the approval and support of important personalities in government – especially the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar and some Ministers who asked what was wrong with setting up a beef burger stall in front of Ambiga’s house.

As a result of the tide of adverse public reaction in the past week, there appears to be a belated realisation in some official circles that such insensitive and deplorable “uncivilised conduct” have gone beyond the pale of the acceptable and permissible for ordinary decent Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region, class, gender or age.

This explains for the condemnation of these “uncivilised” actions by those who had earlier held their silence.

This is however completely inadequate.

The time has come to restore decency and civility to politics and public life in Malaysia.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Cabinet must come forward to speak loud and clear their condemnation of these three “uncivilised acts” in the past week and to set the tone and example for decency and civility in politics and public life in Malaysia enroute to a developed high-income nation in 2020.

Ah, now it seems that some of them realised the gravity of the depravity their deeds!!!
You have a situation here which is a propagandist dream!!!
If DAP & PR are smart, they have PLENTY of materials to mount a very devastating publicity campaign against the evil perpetrators!
    Especially among the Malays!!!
Especially among the armed forces and the veterans.
Show them how their veterans have been debased by the UMNO/BN government.
After life long service to the nation!!!!
    They should be comfortably retired.
Not debased and opened to ridicule, not only to Malaysians, but the whole wide world!!!!!
    Remember, here’s your golden opportunity!!!!
    DON’T WASTE IT!!!!!!!

Since the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar has endorsed the selling of beef and the indecent exposure of butts, let’s set up stalls selling pork in front of his house.

I support Pakatan Rakyat which is for now the only viable alternative to the present UMNO B government because it has very obviously failed the nation and rakyat. There are millions who share my hope for a better government to lead and to take care of our well-being. We believe in the ballot box system and yet we are considered “uncivilized” by our good ( for nothing ) PM who is only good at talking but not doing. And, BTW how civilized are people who used C4 to blow up an innocent pregnant woman?????????

#2 vsp: Just becos Deputy is pea-brained, doesn’t mean the rest of Malaysians must be equally idiotic. Shame. Shame.

Malaysians on the streets of KL shall be the better judge. There is no need to stoop as low as BUM-NO. Wen they have no better things to share or say, they expose their butts, toss burgers and oh, oh, wave their kerises too. Can’t humour such silly fellas.

Just vote them out and pack them to the asylum where they properly belong.

How can an insane person like the Deputy Inspector be given such a high-ranking post?

The is now yet another reason for rejecting umno. Stupidity. Yes. Umno is plain stupid. Umno is the only political party in the world that takes the task of monkeying with poeple’s basic rights seriously. In fact so seriously that umno saw it fit to rope in army personels, albeit retired ones into the monkey business. Umno also saw it proper to get pdrm to voice its approval.

    JIB JIB BOLEH?
    ROS ROS CANTIK!

In Malaysia, people with low mentality can still make it to the top. They join UMNO B, do their bidding, be blind to UMNO B leaders’ crimes because those are the criteria for promotions. Mamak’s systen, actually. Better known as the Correct, Correct, Correct System. If in Singapore, Datuk KAB can only qualify to be a rank-and-file policeman.

    LKS, one thing is certain.
UMNO/BN supporters will desert them in droves and give their votes to the PR.

Moohidin should not hide the fact that the Malaysian judiciary, Election Commission, Police, MACC are UMNO branch parties. The Bar Council is only trying to correct problems created by UMNO.

DPM Muhyiddin Yassin try to be too smart and quote the most famous Chinese history …the “Three Kingdom” for Malaysians to understand and copy.
It takes many scholars several readings to conclude but our DPM knows everything from one reading and from movie.
He does not and cannot read the book at all.
    It will make him blur.

These are also the people who are engaged to conduct and managed ‘Khidmat Negara’ (National Service). If they can show their butts in public, I cannot imagine what they can do to the teenage girls in the NS camps.
Any miniature cameras in the girls’ bathrooms?
    Oh my God.
What can they think of next?

Its true personal civility was thrown out the door with the ‘three act’ – personal civility that is suppose to be the hallmark of Malay as a race. It precisely why the acts are so unMalay that disturbs me most and I believe disturb most Malays and non-Malay deep down.

What we have is not just a breakdown of civility but civilisation – Malay civilization. In fact what we have is debauchery – an over indulgence in the senses – the dark side- that of hate, pettiness and ugliness.

What I saw was something foreign, its not the Malay I know, not the Malays I grow up with, nor that of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

These are umno’s stooges. I mean who doesnt know that? Its the butt thing I am a little puzzled. Why show ambiga & co the butt? And bringing the press there for that purpose, too. That means they actually intended to show their backsides to the whole nation. It is a coded message people. They are telling us to kick umno’s butt – to boot umno out of putrajaya!

Non of the BN leaders can be compare with Kuan Kong. They are corrupt to the core. They did not understand the real meaning of YI as profess by Kuan Kong, they are more interested in how many projects that they can used to siphon out the people money. PKFZ and NFC and more.

  19. #19 by Taxidriver on Friday, 18 May 2012 - 5:12 pm

Save our breath to talk about kuan kong to UMNO B buggers. They only read books like Intelok and watch porn movies. The end result is, in Mahathir’s own words, ” half-past-six cabinet ministers ” Hence, not surprisingly, retired army veterans who we expect to be highly disciplined showed their butts! Monkey see monkey do lah.
