The Yang di Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s message on his official birthday celebration today has reinforced my challenge yesterday to Malaysian youths to prove to the world that Malaysia is a successful example of Alliance of Civilisations and not an example of failure from Clash of Civilisations.
In his message, the King has called on Malaysians to stand tall as a nation that transcends all differences to create lasting unity and togetherness.
His Majesty said to create such an atmosphere, the people and leaders at all levels should not just do nothing and yet dream of achieving success.
On the contrary concerted efforts should be taken to break down elements that would hinder the unity.
The King said: “The fact is that it is not an easy task to manage the divisions and differences that exist in a country. This is due to the fact that every single thing will tend to be viewed and interpreted from different angles.”
As such, ever since taking his oath as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31, the Yang di Pertuan Agong has travelled to every corner of the country to stay close to all Malaysians regardless of differences. Read the rest of this entry »
What a pity, Mah should resign over national issues such as protesting the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy under Najib’s premiership instead of over any personal matter

What a pity! Datuk Mah Siew Keong should have resigned as Gerakan President over national issues such as protesting the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy under Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s premiership instead of over any personal matter.
If Mah had done the former, he would have the sympathy, support and solidarity of all thinking patriotic Malaysians, as he would be doing something which a patriotic Malaysian should have done long ago, but I am not sure he would gain similar public sympathy, support and solidarity in resigning as Gerakan President for a personal matter.
Mah had resigned as Gerakan President with immediate effect when officiating the 43rd Gerakan Negri Sembilan annual assembly this morning, on the ground that he had promised to do so if the party’s performance in the 14GE was worse than its previous showing.
This is the fundamental problem with Gerakan and Barisan Nasional leaders – they cannot see the wood for the trees.
This is all the more so at a time when two books on the 1MDB scandal had hit the bookstores and no Malaysian can claim that the 1MDB scandal is just “fake news” and part of an international plot by diabolical forces to topple Najib from power!
The two books are Clare Rewcastle Brown’s “The Sarawak Report – The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose” and Wall Street Journal’s two award-winning journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope’s “Billion Dollar Whale”.
As I said in Teluk Intan yesterday when officiating the opening of the DAP Service Centre of the DAP MP and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Nga Kor Ming and Perak State Assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar Terence Naidu, the more I read the two books, the angrier I became.
I believe that all Malaysian will share my feeling when reading Clare Rewcastle-Brown and Tom Wright/Bradley Hope’s two books on the 1MDB scandal, the more you read and angrier you become, at how tens of billions of Malaysian ringgit and the future of the present and future generations of Malaysians could be so easily and irresponsibly stolen and pawned away!
It is indeed the heist of the rights and interests of future generations of Malaysians!
I thought I had known more than ordinary Malaysians about the criminality and moral turpitude of the 1MDB scandal, but I was completely floored by the scale and scope of the immorality and brazenness of the two protagonists of the 1MDB scandal which transformed Malaysia into a global kleptocracy as revealed by these two books – Najib and Jho Low.
Former US Ambassador to Malaysia, John Mallot, is right – the 1MDB scandal is even worse than what one had thought.
As John Mallot wrote in his recent article on “Billion Dollar Whale”:
“”The authors describe in great and fascinating detail how Jho Low, with Najib’s connivance, was able to steal over US$5 billion from 1MDB – and therefore from the Malaysian people. Jho Low put Malaysia on the map, but for all the wrong reasons.
“”The Najib in this book is incompetent and uncaring and doesn’t care to learn the details – as long as he gets money for his political purposes, and as long as his wife, Rosmah, is happy and gets what she wants. He knew Jho Low was stealing, but he didn’t know how much. As for Rosmah, what mattered most was the millions of dollars worth of Birkin bags and jewellery, funded by money stolen from 1MDB.”
John Mallot rightly pointed out: “The authors talk about Imelda Marcos and the 1,100 pairs of shoes that were found after Ferdinand Marcos was overthrown in the Philippines.
“But even if each pair of shoes was worth US$1,000, that still is only a million dollars. The Malaysian police say that all the ‘loot’ confiscated from the Najib family home and condos added up to US$273 million.”
I said in Teluk Intan yesterday that my conclusion after reading the two books on the 1MDB scandal was “How could the political and government leaders in the Najib government, whether Ministers, Members of Parliament, top government officials or UMNO/MCA/MIC/Gerakan/Barisan Nasional leaders at all levels, from national to state to local, be so blind to the criminality and moral turpitude in the 1MDB scandal committed since 2009”.
Those who claim that the 1MDB is fake news, an elaborate international conspiracy to topple a freely-elected Prime Minister in Malaysia, should just read these two books.
All political and government leaders, whether Ministers, Members of Parliament, top government officials or UMNO/MCA/MIC/Gerakan/Barisan Nasional leaders at all levels, from national to state to local, under Najib’s premiership were guilty of aiding and abetting Najib in the crime and corruption of the 1MDB scandal, and should apologise and repent for their betrayal of the nation and people by their silence and inaction – and the least they should do is to withdraw from public office for they have proved unworthy leaders of the Malaysian people and nation.
Mah’s resignation, without lodging a single protest at the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia’s infamy for being regarded as a global kleptocracy, is a great disservice to Gerakan and himself.
Will there be anybody in the Gerakan leadership who will resign from all public office in repentence and shame in aiding and abetting Najib in the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal resulting in Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy?

UMNO veteran and political secretary to the first Penang Chief Minister, Tan Sri Yusoff Latiff is fond of reminiscing that when the late Tunku Abdul Rahman took over the UMNO leadership from Onn Jaafar in 1951, the party had no money, and Tunku sold his house in Penang to fund the running of UMNO.
Sixty-seven years later, we do not have an UMNO President who had to sell his house to fund the running of UMNO, but instead, there was the international spectacle of nearly 300 boxes of designer handbags and dozens of bags filled with cash and jewellery among the items taken away by police in raids at properties linked to the former Prime Minister’s family – which contained RM114 million in cash in 26 currencies and Birkin handbags each worth up to hundreds of thousands of dollars! No other political party can eliminate MCA and Gerakan – as political parties can only commit suicide or self-destruct from their own betrayal of their founding principles
I gave an assurance to MCA and Gerakan at the media conference in Labis earlier this evening to announce the DAP/Pakatan Harapan parliamentary candidate for Labis, Pang Hock Liong, that DAP has no intention whatsoever to eliminate MCA and Gerakan, stressing that no other political party can eliminate MCA and Gerakan, as political parties cannot be eliminated by other political parties but can only commit suicide or self-destruct because of their own betrayal of their founding principles.
The intention and objective of the DAP in the 14th General Election is to defeat the UMNO/BN so that for the first in the nation’s 61-year history, a new Government from Pakatan Harapan could be formed in Putrajaya, to Save Malaysia from becoming a bankrupt, rogue and kleptocratic state by resetting Malaysia’s nation building directions and policies for Malaysia to become a world top-class nation. Chang Yeow, do not show sully or tarnish the good name and memory of Chong Eu
At first I had wanted to ignore the statement issued by the Penang Gerakan Chairman, Teng Chang Yeow.
If Teng believes he is such a great or popular politician, how could he lose Padang Kota State Assembly seat which he had held for three terms from 1995-2008, and in the 2018 General Election, campaigning as a Penang Chief Minister-designate? It is most unthinkable.
In 2013, where did Chang Yeow contest?
He ran away from DAP’s Chow Kon Yeow to stand in Bukit Tengah, where he was again trounced by PKR’s Ong Chin Wen who won with a huge majority of 5,190 votes, while Chang Yeow secured only 33.1% of the votes cast.

It is quite some time that we have heard from former Penang Chief Minister, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, but it is a pity that he could not come out of the box of a petty politician to become a statesman.
Koh mentioned that I am 77 years old.
I recently went up to level 65 of Komtar to experience the new Komtar attraction of The Gravityz, and had a scenic view of George Town from a height of 239 metres above ground with only a rope attached to the body.
Koh is very much younger. Perhaps he would like to experience Komtar Gravityz also.

Gerakan is in fact a “four-stooges” party in both sense of the meaning of “stooge”
I spoke too soon.
I said on Tuesday that in three days, Gerakan had provided ample evidence that it had been reduced to a “three-stooges” party in Barisan Nasional which dared not speak up on the great issues of right and wrong in Malaysia but dwell on trifles and trivialities.
I was referring to the trio of Gerakan President and Minister for Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong; the Penang State Gerakan Chairman Teng Chang Yeow and the Gerakan vice-president Dominic Lau.
But on the very same day, a fourth stooge appeared in the person of the Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng who tried to raise his own stocks by exploiting the Sungai Lembu illegal factory issue in Permatang Pauh.
As a result, we have a Gerakan stooge quartet and not just a trio.

In three days, Gerakan has provided ample evidence that it has been reduced to the status of a “three-stooges” party in Barisan Nasional which dare not speak up on the great issues of right and wrong in Malaysia but could only dwell on trifles and trivialities.
Firstly, there is the Gerakan President and Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong as the first stooge who created political history by issuing a challenge, not on behalf of himself, but on behalf of another, when he challenged me to contest against the Barisan Nasional/Gerakan Penang State Chairman Teng Chang Yeow in the 14th General Election.
Secondly, a second stooge when we see the BN/Gerakan Penang State Chairman continuing to “twist and turn” to camouflage his desire to contest again in next general election, but he dared not return to Padang Kota where he had been Assemblyman for three terms in 1995, 1999 and 2004 but was defeated by Penang DAP State Chairman Chow Kon Yeow in the 2008 General Election by a margin of 1,666 votes.
In the 2013 General Election, he was afraid to face Chow again in Padang Kota and ran away to what he thought was the safest seat for Gerakan in Bukit Tengah, but was defeated by the PKR candidate, Ong Chin Wen with a huge margin of 5,190 votes. Read the rest of this entry »
Pity that Gerakan has fallen from a national party which prides itself as the conscience of Barisan Nasional into a pathetic “mosquito of mosquitoes” party
Yesterday, Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong challenged me to contest against the Gerakan Penang State Chairman, Teng Chang Yeow in Penang in the 14th General Election.
I ignored the puerile call and did not give it a second thought.
Today, Teng upped the ante, urging me to be man enough to respond to the Gerakan challenge and announce whether I would contest in Penang or Gelang Patah.
I really feel sorry for Gerakan, falling from a national party during its heyday when it claimed that it was the conscience of Barisan Nasional, to the pathetic and abject “mosquito of mosquitoes” party today where both the Gerakan national President and the chairman of its most important state, which it had ruled for five decades, had to resort to cheap tactics to get publicity and attention. Since the seismic development on July 14, when Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council announced the Pakatan Harapan structure, logo and leadership line up, signifiying the final Mahathir-Anwar reconciliation after nearly two decades of political enmity, the past 16 days have seen increasing panic among UMNO/Barisan Nasional leaders about the very real prospects of losing Putrajaya and the Federal Government in the forthcoming 14th General Election.
As a result, even MCA and Gerakan leaders are joining more UMNO leaders in resorting to “whistling in the dark” to hide their increasing panic, shouting from their rooftops that they are not panicking!
MCA President, Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, for instance, is suddenly putting up a bold front proclaiming in Penang that MCA is confident that there will be a change of support among voters in Penang as the people have lost confidence in the DAP for failing to fulfil their promises after taking over the state nine years ago while declaring to the 45th annual general meeting of the Young Malaysians Movement in Kuala Lumpur that MCA believes that the Chinese community is shifting its support back to Barisan Nasional.
Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong announced the Gerakan’s three candidates to contest the Segambut, Batu and Kepong parliamentary seats and declared that Chinese votes for Barisan Nasional are expected to improve to 30% in the 14th General Election from the 13.4% received in the 2013 polls.
It is indeed a great national tragedy and shame that at a historic period when the nation is on threshold of a possible change of Federal government in six decades, MCA and Gerakan leaders have fallen to such a parlous level that they could only indulge in “whistling in the dark” hoping to win more electoral seats depending on UMNO, instead of being focused on the great issues confronting the people and country. MCA and Gerakan should not celebrate too early, as MCA and Gerakan candidates may get more serious whacking from the voters if DAP and Rocket logo are banned in 14GE
The statement by the Gerakan vice president Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau that the DAP should not blame its problems on UMNO, referring specifically to the revival of talk to ban the DAP and disallow the use of the Rocket logo in the 14th General Election, is the type of spineless statements which was the cause of the Gerakan and MCA retreating from their glorious past to their ignominious present.
The black ops UMNO/BN propaganda campaign in the social and mainstream media to demonise DAP have had some success, so much so that a few so-called impartial political observers could believe the tall tales that 865 DAP branches had been discriminated against and that 753 “delegates” victimized and not allowed to take part in the 2012 party elections and 2013 party re-elections, when these were “fake news and false information” with no ounce of truth whatsoever.
Dominic Lau said DAP should save itself from being deregistered by the Registrar of Societies before talking about the saving the country, questioning why the DAP was unable to resolve the issue concerning the validity of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) line-up after five years.
This is the trouble with Gerakan leaders – they dare not ask why the Registrar of Societies why he could not resolve the DAP’s CEC line-up problem for five years, as it is safer for the political future of the “spineless” Gerakan leaders to blame the DAP instead. Read the rest of this entry »

Will Liow, Wee, Ong, Mah and Subramaniam succeed at the Cabinet meeting on Friday to get Zahid to withdraw his statement that the government will adopt and move Hadi’s private member’s bill in Parliament and clarify it is UMNO but not BN stand?
Last Friday, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi announced that the government will take over PAS President Datuk Seri Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill in Parliament to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 or Act 355, but the MCA, Gerakan, MIC and other Sabah/Sarawak Barisan Nasional Ministers and leaders claim that they knew nothing about it and never agreed to it.
At this stage, we need not go into the merits or demerits of such a bill, although there are attempts by irresponsible, divisive and destructive quarters to brand those who criticize or even oppose Hadi’s private member’s bill as anti-Islam, forgetting that the Sarawak Chief Minister, Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg (a Muslim himself) had upheld the stand of the previous Sarawak Chief Minister, Adenan Satem (another Muslim) and directed all the 25 Sarawak Barisan Nasional MPs (which included four Muslim Federal Ministers) to reject Hadi’s private member’s bill motion .
Before we discuss the merits or demerits of Hadi’s private member’s bill, the first question to be dealt with is whether Barisan Nasional has changed its character from a coalition based on consensus, where everyone of the 13 Barisan Nasional component parties must give consent and agreement before a policy, measure or decision can be regarded as Barisan Nasional policy, measure or decision into one where the Barisan Nasional is only a coalition in name but accepts UMNO hegemony, where what UMNO leaders want and desire become the law in Barisan Nasional!
This will be the case if the Zahid can announce that the Barisan Nasional Federal Government will take over Hadi’s private member’s bill in Parliament even without have to discuss and get the agreement of the Ministers and leaders of the other 12 BN component parties outside UMNO. I wish to report that in the first 24 hours from 12 noon yesterday till 12 noon today, neither MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai nor the Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong had contacted me in response to my public offer yesterday that I am prepared to meet with them, individually or collectively, any place any time in the ensuing 72 hours to discuss how we can co-operate in the larger national interests to purge and cleanse Malaysia of the infamy and ignominy of being regarded world-wide as a global kleptocracy.
I had asked whether Liow and Mah would have to get UMNO approval before responding. We will wait and see what happens in the rest of the 72-hour offer.
Already, there is a strange political phenomenon. In yesterday’s press, I was the target of massive attacks from all the top MCA and Gerakan leaders for offering during my “Jelajah Desa” at Sungai Gelugor in Penang on Sunday to co-operate with PAS President, Datuk Seri Hadi Awang to save Malaysia from becoming a global kleptocracy and a failed and rogue state.

There is a rule of thumb in political exchanges that personal attacks or character assassination is the last resort of political opportunists and scoundrels who have run out of arguments based on facts and reason, and this is what the MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai resorted to when he launched a ferocious personal attack on me, accusing the DAP as a privately-owned “Kit Siang & Son Sdn. Bhd” and not a political party.
I can understand Liow’s frustration and exasperation, but it is no justification nevertheless for him to resort to personal attacks and character-assassination.
What was Liow frustrated and exasperated about?
The latest incident was the MCA leadership’s total inability to respond to my statement on Thursday catching Liow “red-handed” in saying one thing to the Chinese but giving a totally different impression to the Malays – which is the height of political dishonesty and chicanery at work in plural Malaysia. Mah and Liow should explain whether they have given an undertaking that MCA and Gerakan Ministers and MPs would support Hadi’s private member’s bill if it is taken over by UMNO as a government bill
Last Thursday, the MCA mouthpiece, The Star, devoted the whole of its front-page to PAS President, Datuk Seri Hadi Awang’s private member’s motion with the headline “Solid ‘NO’ to Hadi’s Bill”, featuring the quotes and pics from leaders of five Barisan Nasional leaders, namely from MCA, Gerakan, MIC, PBB and PBS, including:
*“The bottom line is that MCA will oppose it. We will not support a Bill from the Opposition, especially from PAS. There can never be two systems of law in this country. We cannot accept it nor close an eye to this.” – MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
*“We remain opposed to Hadi’s Bill. Having two separate legal systems…will not only create confusion and an open-ended environment for opportunists but also tear the country apart.” – Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mak Siew Keong.
*“MIC vehemently opposes Hadi’s Bill. We need a proper dialogue to hear the views of Muslim and non-Muslim MPs. We do not want two contradictory legal systems. The Federal Constitution is the supreme law of the land.” – MIC deputy president S.K. Devamany.
But something happened before Parliament reconvened on Thursday morning, setting in motion a series of events in the next few months for all the Gerakan, MCA and MIC Ministers and leaders to start “eating their words”. Read the rest of this entry »

Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong’s had been Minister for nearly two-and-a-half years after he defeated DAP candidate Dyana Sofya in the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31, 2016 with a wafer-thin majority of 238 votes.
Mah’s 30 months in Parliament and Cabinet are marked by three political and economic disasters: firstly, the government’s increasingly repressive measures highlighted by the undemocratic detention of Bersih chairperson, Maria Chin; secondly, Malaysia’s ignominy and infamy for being regarded worldwide as a “global kleptocracy”; and thirdly, the unchecked decline in the value of the Malaysian ringgit, reflecting widespread loss of investor confidence in the Malaysian economy and the country’s political leadership.
Gerakan claims to be the “conscience of BN government” but if Gerakan is able to play this role, these three national blackmarks would not have taken place.
The Gerakan is not the “conscience” of the BN government, for Mah’s 30 months as a Cabinet Minister is distinguished by Gerakan subservice to and compliance with UMNO’s repressive and kleptocratic policies, as Mah had not dared to say a single word whether about Maria Chin’s detention or the multi-billion dollar 1MDB global kleptocratic money-laundering scandal, which catapulted Malaysia into the stratosphere of a “global kleptocracy”.
When will Mah and Gerakan speak up to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Maria Chin, and to condemn her detention under Sosma, which is a clear-cut violation of parliamentary undertaking by the UMNO/BN government that the Sosma legislation would only be used against terrorists and not peaceful NGO activists and political opponents? What is most significant about the “policy” statements the MCA and Gerakan Presidents at their respective MCA Johor State Convention and the Gerakan national delegates’ conference today is not what they said but what they did not say.
MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai brushed off the possibility of a “one to one” fight between the Opposition and the Barisan Nasional in the next national general elections as “empty talk” although this is a prospect MCA leaders fear most – not that they are comfortable with other political scenarios in the 14GE to make MCA more than a “7/11” political party.
Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong struck a “holier than thou” stance and railed against former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for “dabbling in unhealthy politics” with the statement that the Barisan Nasional government in three states of Perak, Terengganu and Johor could fall before the general election as a small change in state assemblymen could topple the BN state governments.
Mah suffered from an early case of amnesia when he said that a change in the top leadership and administration of a state could only be determined by a process of democracy via an election, and not by getting elected representatives to switch camp or entice them to defect – forgetting how Barisan Nasional toppled the Pakatan Rakyat state government in Perak under Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin as Mentri Besar in February 2009 by engineering a defection PR State Assembly members.
But what is more important is not their verbal gymnastics but their silence on the claim by the UMNO and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor that BN has arrived at a consensus regarding PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s private members bill.

48-hour silence of top MCA, Gerakan and MIC leaders on Tengku Adnan’s claim that BN has arrived at a consensus on Hadi’s private member’s bill is more eloquent than any statement by them
The 48-hour silence of the top MCA, Gerakan and MIC leaders who are also Cabinet Ministers to the claim by the UMNO and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor that the Barisan Nasional has arrived at a consensus regarding PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill is more eloquent than any statement anyone of them could make.
As usual, the top MCA, Gerakan and MIC leaders allow their low-level underlings to cast doubt on Adnan’s claim, but they dare not personally contradict Adnan’s statement and their silence are louder than the protestations by the MCA, Gerakan and MIC underlings.
Before the Barisan Nasional Supreme Council meeting two Fridays ago, I had said that the BN Supreme Council had degenerated from the Barisan Nasional Federal coalition government’s highest decision-making body into a superfluous and even superannuated creature without any bite, role, authority or purpose whatsoever.

Liow and Mah should demand Prime Minister to restore status quo ante, sack Azalina and Rosnah as Minister and Deputy Minister for unilaterally prioritizing Hadi’s bill and Cabinet repudiation of their motion in Parliament on Thursday
MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong have threatened to resign from the Cabinet if PAS President, Hadi Awang’s hudud bill is passed.
Liow is the Transport Minister while Mah is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Liow said: “I’m trying to stop it, I’m trying to get all the (BN) component parties to stop it.
“I am urging both sides of the political divide to come together and stop this Bill.”
Instead of making meaningless statements after the horses had bolted, Liow and Mah should restore the status quo ante before the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, stood up in Parliament after Thursday’s lunch break to propose the Ministerial motion to give priority to Hadi’s hudud motion, which was listed as Item 15 in the Order Paper, leapfrogging 14 other items including five items of official business.
Azalina’s motion was seconded by the Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Raashid Shirlin.
Two actions must be taken to restore the status quo ante – firstly, the sacking of Azalina as Minister and Rosnah as Deputy Minister for unilaterally proposing and seconding the motion in Parliament, which had violated both the spirit and commitment of Barisan Nasional that such a motion would not be supported by BN MPs and secondly, the Cabinet repudiation of the Ministerial motion by the Azalina and Rosnah on Thursday.
