Pada hari Selasa 7 February, 2017 mulai pukul 9.30 pagi berduyun-duyun tetamu dari berbilang bangsa/kaum berpusu-pusu ke rumah kediaman Datuk Zaid Ibrahim di No. 10, Jalan TR8/3, Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, 47410 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
Acaranya ialah ‘Sidang Media Bersama YABhgia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, YB Sdr. Lim Kit Siang dan Datuk Zaid Ibrahim. Majlis bermula pukul 10.00 pagi dan berakhir pada 12.00 tengahari. Diikuti dengan jamuan ringan.

Dalam ucapannya Datuk Zaid telah meminta maaf kerana majlis telah bertukar tempat dari Dewan Tan Sri Hamzah, Kelab Diraja Selangor, Jalan Bukit Kiara off Jalan Damansara 60000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan ke rumahnya kerana pihak Kelab Diraja Selangor telah membatalkan di saat-saat terakhir persetujuan mereka untuk memberi izin pertemuan di situ.
Lepas itu, dalam ucapan seterusnya, Datuk Zaid memberi sebab kenapa beliau memilih untuk menjadi ahli DAP. Ucapannya ringkas dan padat. Lim Kit Siang bukanlah satu nama yang asing dalam arena politik negara. Pelbagai kecaman, tohmahan dan fitnah dilemparkan ke atas pemimpin tertinggi Parti Tindakan Demokratik (DAP) ini. Namun, beliau masih berdiri teguh untuk memastikan misi ‘Selamatkan Malaysia’ yang diperjuangkan sejak lebih 30 tahun lalu dapat direalisasikan.
Umum mengetahui pelbagai kecaman dan tuduhan berbentuk rasisme sering dilemparkan ke atas beliau oleh pemimpin-pemimpin yang bersifat ultra-Melayu. Di sebalik isu-isu penyalahgunaan kuasa dan rasuah oleh pemimpin-pemimpin tersebut yang kini memegang tampuk kepimpinan negara, mereka seperti tidak terkesan dengan apa yang sedang berlaku bahkan mengalihkan perhatian rakyat marhaen kepada isu rasisme ini.
Persoalannya, sampai bila isu rasisme harus dimainkan sehingga isu-isu berkaitan kebajikan rakyat seperti tidak diendahkan? Apakah mereka mengambil perhatian terhadap kos sara hidup yang semakin hari semakin tinggi hingga derita itu ditanggung oleh rakyat biasa? Isu tentang penyalahgunaan kuasa hingga menyebabkan institusi-institusi seperti MARA dan FELDA yang sepatutnya membela masyarakat Melayu-Bumiputera seharusnya dipandang serius dan harus punya kaedah penyelesaian yang lebih efektif kerana isu ini melibatkan kesejahteraan rakyat juga khususnya masyarakat Melayu-Bumiputera.
Namun harus diingatkan bahawa kebajikan dan hak-hak komuniti lain juga harus dijaga kerana mereka juga rakyat Malaysia. Selagi mana kebajikan setiap rakyat dijaga dan dipenuhi tidak kira kaum, agama, gender dan warna kulit, maka isu-isu rasisme ini tidak akan dijadikan modal politik lagi. Read the rest of this entry »

Saya ingin menyahut cabaran Tan Sri Annuar Musa untuk menulis esei berkenaan Lim Kit Siang. Rm50k yang ditawarkan sangat menarik minat saya untuk turut serta dalam cabaran ini, Tinggi harapan saya untuk mendapatkan Rm 50k yang dijanjikan itu malah saya juga berhasrat untuk menyumbang Rm50k itu kepada pasukan bola sepak Kelantan (TRW) dan juga membantu para pelajar UniKL/biasiswa MARA
.
Saya tidak terkejut TS Annuar Musa mampu memberi hadiah sebanyak RM 50k kerana sebelum ini kita telah lihat bagaimana “cekapnya” dia menguruskan pasukan TRW sampai “tidak pernah sekali pun” duit Pelaburan MARA/UNI KL digadaikan untuk menutup kelemahan urus tadbir beliau. “Bagus betul” menjaga kebajikan pelajar. Biasiswa MARA bagi melanjutkan pelajaran ke luar negara & yang diperuntukkan untuk membiaya pelajar UNIKL yang diberhentikan membuktikan “kecekapan” beliau dalam mengendalikan tugasnya. Mungkin ini adalah satu langkah kehadapan bagi beliau bagi mencungkil bakat-bakat penulisan dalam kalangan rakyat Malaysia. Husnuzon, bersangkabaiklah.

Pieces are falling into place – there is a high-powered and well-orchestrated campaign to break Pakatan Harapan by demonizing DAP and me, hoping at least to break my spirit and force my retirement from politics.
The two pieces which finally convince me of such a high-powered and well-orchestrated campaign were the latest attack from the MCA Deputy President and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Wee Ka Siong replete with lies and falsehoods and the uncharacteristic salvo from UMNO MP for Balik Pulau and Deputy Health Minister accusing me of being untrustworthy and a person not to be believed.
Before this, there were blasts from the UMNO Information chief, Annuar Musa culminating in taking hate politics to new height in Malaysia, offering RM10,000, which was upped to RM50,000 within 24 hours, for the “best” essay or social media posting that I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam and the “missing person” banners and posters which were put up in the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency.
I have never seen such an outpouring, close to an avalanche, of demonization of myself as in the last three months in the UMNO/Barisan owned or controlled mass media, like the New Straits Times, Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian, Star, or TV3, when for the past half a century of my political activities, I was blacked out in these media, with clear directive given in one mainstream media that my photograph was never to be used.
Now I appear almost daily, if not in New Straits Times, then in Utusan, Berita Harian, Star or TV3, even with pictures – but there were no news, facts or truth, but downright lies, falsehood and fake news to demonise me, describing me as a devil, an hantu, puaka or even jembalang, as if I breathe fire or eat babies for breakfast; that I am anti-Malay, anti-Islam, that I was the cause of the May 13 racial riots in 1969 (exactly 48 years ago) although I was never in Kuala Lumpur during that period and was in fact in Kota Kinabalu on that tragic day of May 13, 1969; that I am a communist; a stooge of Singapore PAP.
An example of such fake news and false information, is the weekend claim by the BN Strategic Communication Director and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Abdul Rahman Dahlan that there are DAP grassroots members and even leaders who want a change of DAP party leadership and that I should retire from politics. I have been wondering why a seasoned politician like UMNO Information Chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa could make such a cheapskate, low-class and moronic proposal of RM10,000, upped to RM50,000 within 24 hours, for the “best” essay or social media posting on whether I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam.
Now I understand. Annuar was not a free agent, but was directed to make this stupid gambit by a political “superior”.
I believe that Rahman Dahlan must be the “mastermind” responsible for Annuar’s cheapskate, low-class and moronic proposal, which exposes Annuar to nation-wide ridicule and mockery, even inside UMNO, not only for the stupid gambit, but public contempt in first making an allegation and then going around looking for evidence to substantiate the allegation.
Who else would come to Annuar’s defence for such a cheapskate, low-class and moronic proposal except for those responsible for subjecting Annuar to such public contempt and ridicule for such a proposal?
In order to “salvage” the situation, Rahman Dahlan will be thinking of other “dirty tricks” to justify his “ingenuity” in thinking of the cheapskate essay or social media posting offer. Read the rest of this entry »
Thanks to Kedah DAP leaders for suggesting that I contest in Kedah in 14GE – but wait for my response in Gelang Patah tomorrow
I want to thank the Kedah DAP Chairman and DAP State Assembyman for Derga, Sdr. Tan Kok Yew and DAP State Assemblyman for Kota Darul Aman, Sdr. Teoh Boon Bok for suggesting in the ceramahs this morning that I contest in Kedah in the 14th General Election.
In my parliamentary constituency in Gelang Patah in Johor, MCA and Gerakan have launched an attack on me by putting up “Missing Person” posters.
I said yesterday that I would address these “Missing Person” posters when I return to Gelang Patah this evening, but I want through the media this morning to announce a slight change of plan.
Although I will be back in Gelang Patah this evening, it would be quite late, I will instead hold a media conference tomorrow morning to address these “Missing Person” posters.
While I thank the Kedah DAP leaders for their offer to me to contest in Kedah in the next general election, let us wait until my media conference in Gelang Patah tomorrow. Read the rest of this entry »
Call on voters of Malacca to continue their historic role to provide leadership to demand for a “Malaysia Reset” of national policies which is only possible if there is a change of Federal government in Putrajaya

My message tonight to the voters of Malacca is to continue their historic role to provide leadership in Malaysia, and in the current challenge and context, to demand for a “Malaysia Reset” of national polices to keep what is good but to correct or abandon policies which are detrimental to the rights and interests of Malaysians.
Without going into history going back to 600 years ago, Malacca’s important role in modern nation-building in Malaysia was clear and evident even before the nation achieved Merdeka on August 31, 1957.
On February 20, 1965, Tunku Abdul Rahman who was then Chief Minister chose Malacca to announce that Malaya would achieve independence on August 31, 1957.
Before I came to the dinner, I visited the YSG Gallery at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, and it brought back memories for it was at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock where I held the first of many public rallies in my campaign for the Bandar Melaka parliamentary constituency in 1969.
I have been MP for Malacca town for three terms, from 1969 – 1978 and 1982-1986.

UMNO accuses Tun Dr. Mahathir of being my stooge while MCA/Gerakan accuses me of being Mahathir’s puppet.
Can UMNO/Barisan Nasional make up their mind as to who is whose stooge and puppet?
Tun Dr. Mahathir is over 91 years ago and had been Prime Minister of Malaysia for over 22 years. Why should be he become my stooge, and how have I suddenly become so powerful as to become the “king-maker” in Malaysian politics, directing the actions and thoughts of former Prime Minister Mahathir, former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and other political leaders including Opposition Leader and PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Amanah President, Mat Sabu?
I am 76 years old, dedicated myself to 51 years of full and active involvement in Malaysian politics because of my love for Malaysia to ensure that the country can become a model prosperous and democratic plural nation for the world. I have been twice detained under the Internal Security, hauled to court countless times on trumped-up charges, my son Lim Guan Eng had been detained under the ISA and gone to jail and lost his position as Member of Parliament to defend an underaged Malay girl. Why should I become a puppet of Mahathir?
Both Mahathir and I have strong views and opinions. Mahathir is not my stooge and I am not his puppet. We co-operate as patriotic Malaysians who feel that we have to work together to Save Malaysia from becoming a global kleptocracy and hurtling towards a failed and rogue state.

If UMNO is toppled in 14GE, Malays will not suffer – on the contrary, a new Federal Government comprising Pakatan Harapan parties including DAP, PKR and Amanah plus Pribumi Bersatu will compete with UMNO’s 60-year record to demonstrate we can better serve Malays and all Malaysians
Yesterday, I covered three states in one day – in Teluk Datuk in Selangor in the morning, Senawang in Negri Sembilan in the evening, and Johor at night.
This the fifth parliamentary constituency I am visiting today in my lightning tour of Northern Johor in my “Voters’ Registration Within Two Weeks” as the next two weeks may be the last chance for eligible but unregistered voters to register on the electoral roll if they are to be able to cast their vote if the 14th General Election is held in September this year.
I started in Segamat parliamentary constituency this morning, then visited Labis, Ledang, Bakri and am now the Muar parliamentary constituency.
Everybody is talking about the next 14th General Election.
When will it be held?
It is very near, as the Information Department has confirmed that it has issued a circular freezing applications for personal or unofficial trips overseas from May 1, because of the impending 14th general election. In fact, I will not be surprised if similar circulars are being sent out by the police and all government departments who will be involved in the 14GE.
However, I don’t think even the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak knows when Parliament will be dissolved for the holding of the 14GE, for he must be toying with various dates and possibilities.

If 45 non-UMNO BN MPs withdraw support from Najib because BN has changed character from a coalition based on consensus into one under UMNO hegemony, PAS’ 14MPs would not be enough to save Najib’s premiership and government
The central issue today is not whether PAS President Datuk Seri Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill motion to amend RU355 would be supported in the present meeting of Parliament, and the merits and demerits of Hadi’s private member’s bill, but whether Barisan Nasional has changed character from a coalition of 13 political parties based on consensus into a coalition under UMNO hegemony, where the other 12 non-UMNO parties do not matter at all as “what UMNO wants, UMNO gets”.
All the leaders and even Ministers from the other 12 non-UMNO parties in the Barisan Nasional have expressed their opposition to Hadi’s private member’s bill, including the entire Sarawak state government with the Sarawak Chief Minister, Datuk Abang Johari Openg directing the four PBB Muslim Ministers and all the 25 Sarawak BN MPs to reject Hadi’s private member’s bill motion.
I want to specifically ask Hadi and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom whether they dare to say that the PBB President, Abang Openg, the four PBB Muslim Ministers – Nancy Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department; Datuk Fadillah Yusuf, Minister for Works; Datuk Wan Junaidi, Minister for Natural Resources and Environment; and Rohani Abdul Rahman, Minister for Women, Family and Community Development – and all 25 Sarawak BN Members of Parliament are anti-Islam as they are committed to reject Hadi’s private member’s bill motion?
Can Hadi and Jamil Khir explain why there are so many Ministers and MPs in Barisan Nasional who are anti-Islam?

Four conditions for the ousting of Najib as Prime Minister and the toppling of the UMNO coalition’s 60-year rule in Malaysia in the 14th General Election
At a time when there is widespread disappointment and disillusionment that the electoral process could bring about the long-waited far-reaching political changes in Malaysia, with predictions that voters’ turnout at the forthcoming 14th General Election would be much lower than the 13GE, there is no doubt that the Prime Minister , Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the top UMNO leadership do not share these concerns as they are grappling with the fear that they may be elected out of office and lose Federal power in the 14GE.
This is the reason why I had suddenly become such a “famous” character in the UMNO-owned and controlled mainstream media in the past three months, with articles (which are mostly lies and falsehoods or in Najib’s own words “fake news”) appearing together with my pictures almost daily either in Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times, Berita Harian or TV3, when for the past fifty years, I was blacked out in these UMNO mainstream media and my pictures not allowed to be published, as if I had become a “non-person” as happened in Stalin’s Soviet Union.
What has happened? Why have I become a daily staple diet in the UMNO media, although the subject of “fake news”?
This is because Najib and UMNO leaders know that the 14GE is a “do or die” battle for them – but it is a “Do and Die” battle not only for Najib and UMNO, but also for the people of Malaysia, as to whether Malaysians could Save Malaysia from a global kleptocracy and hurtling towards a failed and rogue state.
The outcome of the 14GE is not all that certain and foregone, and this is why Najib and the UMNO leadership are so desperate to want to influence a positive outcome for UMNO in the 14 GE, from gerrymandering with the redelineation of parliamentary and state assembly constituencies to resort to the politics of lies, hatred and fear to frighten the Malay voters with the falsehood that if UMNO loses power, the Chinese will assume political power leading to the damnation of the Malays.
In the process, DAP and I are demonized as if I a devil, an hantu, puaka or even jembalang, as if I breathe fire or eat babies for breakfast, that I am anti-Malay, anti-Islam, that I was the cause of the May 13 racial riots in 1969 although I was never in Kuala Lumpur after the May 10, 1969 general elections and was in Kota Kinabalu on that tragic day of May 13, 1969.
The intensification and escalation of the demonisation of DAP and myself is because the UMNO leadership is increasingly afraid that they are losing Malay political support, and they have to resort to lies, falsehoods and “fake news” against DAP leaders and myself to frighten the Malay voters to preserve and save their political power. Just as the grit, commitment and stamina of DAP members for a just, democratic and progressive Malaysia had defeated four major “Black Ops” to destroy the DAP in past half a century, the most ambitious “Black Ops” campaign underway against DAP will also fail
In a month’s time on March 18, 2017 DAP will be celebrating our 51st anniversary since the registration of the party on 18th March 1966.
DAP is today solely because of the contributions, sacrifices and selflessness of veteran DAP leaders and members of the past half a century, and today we gather here to pay tribute to these DAP veterans in Johor, which has now been transformed from a political back-water state into a front-line state for the 14th General Elections, which will decide not only who will run Johor state government but also the Federal Government for the next five years after the 14th General Elections, which appears likely to be held this year.
The following tables showing the vote-share obtained by the various political parties from the 1969 to 2013 General Elections give an idea of how the Barisan Nasional, which had won as high as 77.3% of the total votes cast in the state in 1978 GE and fallen to 53.9% in the 2013 GE, is now fighting a life-and-death struggle to retain power in the Johor State Government in the 14GE.

Most ambitious “Black Ops” to destroy DAP in four decades, involving Ministers and the Prime Minister himself
We are seeing the most ambitious “black ops” operation by the UMNO/BN leaders and propagandists to destroy the DAP in four decades, employing the triple politics of fear, hate and lies, involving Ministers and even the Prime Minister himself.
When the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak tweeted last Wednesday, “Lim Kit Siang is Pakatan’s de facto leader. DAP should stop trying to hide it. Voters know DAP has the most opposition seats and Lim Kit Siang calls the shots”, it was all part of the “Black Ops” campaign to create panic and fear among the Malays, seeking to make them believe that if UMNO loses, I will become the Prime Minister of Malaysia and that I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam.
When the UMNO Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, issued the infamous five-paragraph statement with more than ten lies to attack me, it was again part of the “Black Ops” campaign to destroy the image of DAP.
Yesterday in Malacca, I pointed out the ten lies in the first two paragraphs of Ismail Sabri’s five-paragraph statement. There are at least another five lies in his remaining three paragraphs. There are those who say that Lim Kit Siang has betrayed the objectives and principles of the DAP for co-operating with Tun Mahathir to save Malaysia from a global kleptocracy and a failed and a rogue state, but they have not been able to give an iota of reason to substantiate their allegations.
Recently, this was given as one of the reasons for the defection of one DAP MP and three State Assemblymen in Malacca.
Their tune and song are no different from what UMNO/BN leaders, propagandists and cybertroopers have been attacking the DAP.
For instance, the UMNO Minister for Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri issued three days ago attacking me. It was a short five-paragraph statement but should go into the “Guinness Book of Records” for it told more than ten lies in five paragraphs.

Apology to people of Malacca for the defection of one Member of Parliament and three State Assemblymen in Malacca
Firstly, I want to apologise to the people of Malacca for the defection of one Member of Parliament and three State Assemblymen in Malacca.
I started my parliamentary life in Malacca, where I contested and won the then Bandar Melaka parliamentary constituency in 1969.
I have served three terms as Member of Parliament for the seat of Bandar Melaka, later re-named Kota Melaka, in 1969, 1974 and 1982.
Although I have left Malacca for 31 years, Malacca is always a special place in my 51 years of political struggle to help create a more just, equal, democratic, prosperous and united Malaysia.
I was detained under the Internal Security Act a week after I was elected Member of Parliament of Bandar Melaka in 1969.

Congrats Ismail Sabri – ten lies in short five-paragraph statement attacking me
I want to congratulate the Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, for another dubious “first” in Malaysian politics – telling ten lies in a short five-paragraph statement.
I am prepared to appear in a joint media conference with him for me to point out the 10 lies he had told in his five-paragraph statement attacking me yesterday.

Najib emulating Trump in using tweets to spread his politics of fear, hatred and lies

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is clearly a secret admirer of the US President Donald Trump, as he is emulating Trump in using tweets to spread his politics of fear, hatred and lies.
This could be seen by Najib’s tweet this evening:
“Lim Kit Siang is Pakatan’s de facto leader. DAP should stop trying to hide it. Voters know DAP has the most opposition seats and Lim Kit Siang calls the shots.”
I am reminded by Najib’s earlier politics of fear, hatred and lies when he tried to panic and scare the Malays into believing that if UMNO loses, I will become the Prime Minister of Malaysia as I am anti-Malay and anti-Islam and that the Malays will lose all their rights in the country.
There is one fatal flaw in the UMNO/Barisan Nasional campaign of fear, hatred and lies because of one great inner contradiction of their campaign – UMNO leaders, propagandists and cybertroopers accuse former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir of being my puppet and stooge, while MCA and Gerakan leaders, propagandists and cybertroopers say the opposite, that I have become Mahathir’s puppet and stooge.
UMNO/BN leaders, propagandists and cybertroopers should straighten out their propaganda campaign of fear, hatred and lies – whether Mahathir is my puppet and stooge or whether I have become Mahahir’s puppet and stooge. It is one or the other, as it cannot be both.

Call for a new moral and ethical political culture involving Three Noes – No politics of fear, no politics of hate and no politics of lies

I said earlier today at the Penang DAP Chinese New Year Open House that in my 51 years in politics, I have not called anyone anti-Chinese, anti-Indian, anti-Kadazan, anti-Dayak, anti-Buddhist, anti-Christian or anti-Hindu as we cannot raise the quality or standards of Malaysian politics by indulging in the triple politics of hatred, fear and lies, as by hurling epithets and falsely attacking opponent of being “anti-Malay” or “anti-non-Malay”, “anti-Muslim” or “anti-non-Muslim”.
For this reason, I call for a new moral and ethical political culture involving Three Noes – No politics of fear, no politics of hate and no politics of lies.
The Federal Territories Minister, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s proposal to make Penang a federal territory violates the “Three Noes” Rule.
Firslty, it violates the No Politics of Fear, as it is designed to create fear that if the people of Penang freely exercises their democratic right to choose the state government they want, they will lose the Penang state as one of the 13 states as provided in Article 1(2) of the Malaysian Constitution, losing the rights to free State Assembly elections, a Penang Chief Minister and a State Executive Council.
Secondly, it runs afoul of the No Politics of Hatred, as it is based on promoting animosities and distrust among the Malay and non-Malay voters in Penang.

What a haughty, arrogant but misconceived and misinformed response from Hadi.
It is PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s prerogative to dismiss any possibility of working with DAP, but he has no right to turn and twist facts to justify his position.
It is not the DAP but Hadi as PAS President who violated the Pakatan Rakyat Common Policy Framework and the Pakatan Rakyat consensus principle that all decisions in Pakatan Rakyat coalition should be reached by consensus of all the three component parties.
But the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when Hadi vetoed what had been agreed by the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council with PAS represented by its Deputy President and Secretary-General, demonstrating that Hadi not only wanted to be a dictator in PAS but also in Pakatan Rakyat.
Hadi should look into the mirror when he alleged that the DAP has failed to look after the interest of the people of Penang, although it had one term to do so.
Lest Hadi forgets, DAP-led Pakatan Rakyat won 30 state assembly seats in the 2013 general elections as compared to 29 seats in the 2008 general election.
In the 2013 general election, DAP not only won all the 19 seats it won in the 2008 general elections, but with a bigger majority in everyone of the 19 seats, with majority as big as more than 300 per cent as in the case of Chong Eng in the Padang Lalang seat where she won with a 14,930- vote majority as compared to the 4,242-vote DAP majority in 2008 general election and of over 400% increase as in Padang Kota where Chow Kong Yeow won with 7,196-vote majority as compared to 1,661-vote majority in 2008; and in Pulau Tikus where Yap Soo Huey won with a 8,220-vote majority as compared to 1,714-vote majority in 2008 and in Seri Delima where RSN Ryer won with 9,227-vote majority as compared to 2,128-vote majority in 2008.
In contrast, Hadi was thrown out of the Terengganu state government after one term as Mentri Besar. In the 1999 Terengganu state general elections, thanks to the Anwar “reformasi” wave, Hadi became Terengganu Mentri Besar with PAS winning 28 out of the 32 state assembly seats, winning 87.5% of the popular vote in the state.
In the 2004 general elections, an astounding reverse took place, with Hadi thrown out as Mentri Besar when UMNO won 28 out of the 32 state assembly seats, leaving PAS with only 4 seats but its popular vote crashed from 87.5% in 1999 to 12.5%.
Can Hadi explain such a great contrast in popular support for the DAP-led state government in Penang as compared to his ignominious one term as Teregganu Mentri Besar? Read the rest of this entry »
Let’s keep our focus on things that matter

We should stay focused on the big picture and, instead of harping on past problems, be more realistic and practical about issues such as racism, graft, and massive development projects.
There are just too many incongruous arguments going on in Malaysia today. I consider all these deliberate distractions and diversions from the more fundamental problems confronting us.
The first distraction is the assertion that Lim Kit Siang will become deputy prime minister should the opposition take federal power. There is nothing wrong in Lim Kit Siang becoming DPM if the situation warrants it. Why would the race of a person become an issue unless it is the embedded racism being voiced? Has racism become so entrenched in Malaysia today that even the racists are not consciously aware of their own behaviour?
We must not get distracted; fight we must against racism and bigotry before it is too late. Read the rest of this entry »
