With the Covid-19 pandemic causing unprecedented spiral of suicides, I call on Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin to announce that the government will decriminalise suicide attempts and until the law is amended, no one will be prosecuted for attempted suicide.
The 18-month long Covid-19 pandemic has caused an unusual rise in suicides – with the police recording 468 suicides in the first five months of 2021, or three suicides a day, as compared to 631 in 2020 and 699 in 2019.

The new target announced by the Prime Minister Muhyiddih Yassin to vaccinate all adults by October to stem the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is highly commendable but is it achievable?

The Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Taikyuddin Hassan will be held to their word that there would be debate when Parliament reconvenes for five days from next Monday, July 26, 2021.
Yesterday in Kota Bharu Takiyuddin promised that MPs will be allowed to debate when the “special” five-day Dewan Rakyat sitting kicks off next Monday. He said the Prime Minister had written to the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara speakers requesting for the MPs to be allowed to debate and ask questions. Read the rest of this entry »
