FEB 17 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wrote today about the media – and how governments were able to exercise control through licensing and laws.
But then came the alternative media, or rather online media, he wrote, ironically, on his blog which is online.
“In the alternative media just about anyone can put anything they like to say on the internet directly, with no managers, editors or sub-editors changing any of the contents. The freedom is almost total. This is the essence of democracy?” he says.
Thank you, Dr Mahathir. Your views are always welcome because thanks to you, we are here. Without your foresight, the internet would have taken its time to come to Malaysia.
But your hindsight is another thing. You speak of the alternative media where anyone can put anything, without checks and balances.
Perhaps you are speaking about bloggers. Or those in the print and television media who put out news without verification or even a comment from the other side.
Take for example the recent cases of Utusan Malaysia and TV3, both controlled by your party Umno. Their editors have admitted they don’t verify claims, paraphrase comments and will even lie to make their party look good.
Contrast that with news portals like Malaysiakini and The Malaysian Insider.
We have editors and sub-editors and reporters who are asked to check and counter-check and verify reports in real-time, unlike print which has a 24-hour news cycle and television where the prime time news bulletins is broadcast at 8pm.
And we have made mistakes and have been sued. But we have apologised when mistakes are made and have also gone to court.
Because, no matter the medium, there are some of us in the media who are professional and have integrity. We write facts, not fiction.
And we are only as good as our next byline.

One plain sentence – HE IS A TRAITOR OF THIS NATION ! Giving out Mykad to illegal immigrants freely by the 100s of thousands ! and wanting their “votes” to remain in power.
Whatever from his horses mouth also just plain rubbish without substance, proven time and again.

Mahathir’s words
THE ALTERNATIVE MEDIA
Feb17th 2013 Written by chedet
///1. In the days of the print and electronic media Governments were able to exercise some control through licensing and laws. Liberal people condemn these controls because they deny freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is one of the
fundamentals of democracy.///–Mamakthir
The BN government claims to practice democracy and yet it would not allow the people to know what actually happen in the country. It fools the people by controlling what are reported in the print media through licensing. When people get to know more about how the government cheats, laws are introduced to minimize what they know. BN never practices democracy because it hopes to fool as many people as possible into voting it back to power.
///2. Then came the alternative media via the Internet. Governments not only find themselves almost incapable of controlling but the belief now rejects any attempt at control by the authorities. Actually there was always control by the owners, editors and even sub-editors.
3. In the alternative media just about anyone can put anything they like to say on the internet directly, with no managers, editors or sub-editors changing any of the contents. The freedom is almost total. This is the essence of democracy?///–Mamakthir
Only those who fear that people know the truth want to prevent people knowing them. Democracy provides that the stakeholders participate in the governance through supporting the right candidates to perform the designated functions. In that process, they participate in the selection of representatives with full knowledge to judge who ought to represent them. Free press contributes to the process of informing electorates.
Free press is the foundation of democracy.
///4. The first people to exercise this freedom are the purveyors of pornography. They promote their dirty pictures and blue films in the most explicit way. There is no censorship. And so children and young people now have access to this filth.///–Mamakthir
The computer and equipment which are the medium for viewing pictures in internet can be set to prevent children viewing those sites. Knowledgeable parents will know how to prevent the children access undesirable web sites. The Chinese believe that one should protect the chic from the predators instead of trying to kill off the predators. Mamakthir obviously belongs to a different culture.
///5. The effect is to undermine their moral completely. There can be no doubt that the increase in sex crimes such as rapes, child abuse, extramarital sex among young people, pregnancies, and illegal abortions, getting rid of unwanted babies by dumping them in rubbish heaps are partly due to access to pornography.///–Mamakthir
If there is such a problem in the country, there are other causes apart from pornography and the role internet plays. It is more probable that those who are familiar with the use of computer are the more educated lots and they know how to look after themselves.
Malaysia is not the only country which has access to internet. Do other countries blame the advent of internet for all the social ills in their countries?
Should the people be denied the learning opportunities provided through internet and the ease at communications just because some parents are kept ignorant in preventing their children accessing the undesirable web site?
Ws pornography blamed because the UMNO government face precarious prospect in GE 13?
///6. An unmarried couple put on the you-tube video clips of them having sex. They feel so proud of their shameful act. The Internet is also used to threaten ex-girlfriends with nude pictures of them.///–Mamakthir
There are 6 billion humans who can use internet for benefits. Mamakthir is happy that he could quote a few cases of misuse.
///7. Abusive language and racist remarks have also caused increased tension within society. Allegations of all kinds are made without any bases.///–Mamakthir
The worst racist remarks are made by Mamakthir and people who support him. Mamakthir uses internet to carry primarily racist remarks. Mamakthir does not care about tension within society as he even distorted history blaming Tunku who implemented agreement he emgaged with his coalition partner in the Alliance party as giving away citizenships to true Malayans. Mamakthir said it to divert attention on his treasonous act giving illegal immigrants Malaysian citizenships to get them to votes for BN? That is kettle calling silver pot black!
///8. Now we are seeing doctored video clips being put on You Tube. A short video clip recently showed the PM asking the audience in Penang whether they were ready for the BN. They were loud cries of “No” from the crowd.
9. Now it has been found that this was engineered by bringing a group into the crowd, equipping them with video camera and microphones. When the PM asked “are you ready for BN” this group shouted “No” in response. It seem that the whole audience shouted “No”. Actually only the special group shouted “No” into their microphones. The “Yes from the big crowd was not recorded and not included in the video on You Tube. ///–Mamakthir
It is technically possible to doctor video clips. Just because it could be done does not prove that it was actually done.
UMNO could have aired prepared video clips had Najib the foresight that the answer was “NO”. Why did Najib ask the question? Have his sycophants made him believe that he would get a “Yes” answer in that place? Chinese do not vote like Indian Muslims.
///10. Immediately this particular recording was put on You Tube and it went viral even though the video recording by others showing the crowd raising their hands and saying “Yes” was later put on You Tube, many do not bother to see it. They continue to believe in the fake video clips.///–Mamakthir
Except for the ostrich we know that those who surrounded Najib on stage shouted ‘Yes”, and Najib could not hear the crowd. That may be why three “Noes” were recorded out loud among the crowd.
///11. This is the direct result of the freedom offered by the alternative media. Lies can be made to seem to be the truth.///–Mamakthir
When “yes’ and “Noes” were heard, what is the lie and what is the truth?
///12. But the truth can also be made to look like lies. After an opposition leader was shown with a girl obviously having some kind of sexual relations, it was made to be a lie by showing how a video clip can be doctored.///–Mamakthir
Mamakthir is hounded by the imminent loss of BN in the coming GE and the appointment of Anwar as PM.
///13. A picture of President Obama is shown speaking at some kind of press conference. After finishing he was shown to walk off and he kicked violently at the door to open it.
14. Then a picture is shown of Obama speaking and then he walked off the stage through a door, which opened, without his kicking it. This was what really happened.
15. The purpose is to show how video clips can be altered. Therefore the opposition leader can claim that the pictures of him with the girl was actually not what happened, that it was doctored.
16. Thus truth can be made to look like a lie.///–Mamakthir
It seems that only those Mamakthir considers stupid need such vivid elaboration.
///17. The new software available can alter movies and still pictures in any way one wants to. In the movie the “Life of Pi” there were numerous scenes of a fierce tiger on a small boat in the ocean with Pi.
18. Pi was real but the tiger was created through the magic of computer animation. It looks very real, growling and roaring and threatening the man. If one is not told one must be amazed at the scenes shown on the movies. Of course the picture “Avatar” is all computer animation, as are all the cartoons and the human/animal or human/caricature interactions.///–Mamakthir
These explanations do not make Malaysians believe that the majority shouted “yes” that day.
///19. While the alternative media gives everyone freedom to publicise whatever, the hackers and others can also block out the entrees of whomever they chose to. So far I have to change five sites for my blogs as somehow or other they were tampered with. People could not access my blog and effectively I was silenced. I lost the freedom of the media even more than when Government could deprive me of my freedom.///–Mamakthir
Mamakthir complains about hacking on his web site and yet he laments that there should be internet. Mamakthir knows not what is wrong or right. He only knows his interests. Whatever benefits him is good and bad otherwise.

Wow! I didn’t know of anyone who could stoop so low with his apple polishing fallacies of the old man until now! A Tunship may be on the card next?
You may go kiss both his hands, tie his shoelaces, or be a doormat for him to step on for all we care; but please spare us from your embarrassment. We don’t happen to share your wet-dreams, unfortunately!
The DAP, for all I know, is more than contented with a simple ‘Saudara’!

Wooow. He got it all wrong. In fact I suspect he could be mistaking the chicken backside for the head. I mean it was that bad. He was that wrong.
Wots worse perhaps is the fact that he continues to open his big mouth to dislodge all his ridiculously wrong ideas – a lot of them toxic and malicious.
Letting those stupid arguments out of his mouth has adverse impact. Needless to say the impact is on umno. And this is another example on how ridiculously wrong he has got himself. He obviously thought he was arguing for umno when he was doing precisely the reverse.
Hey jib, cant you ask him to shaddup?

You know what I like to see is Mahathir, Hindraf, Jeffrey Kitingan and Yong Teck Lee in the same room and Anwar, LKS, Hadi Awang be the moderator – they come up with the solution and PR will go and do it…

From leadership point of view, if Tun is given the task of a CEO, I am sure, the company would have gone bust in 2008 with such weak successors and his crazy rantings and micro managing now even after retired for so long.
His team of managers, (trained by Tun) were obviously not working correctly and hard enough to warrant them to stay in the company. In fact, the whole team should be VSS for new aggressive professional young team that can be inspired to achieve the company goal in order for the company to reach Fortune 500 at least from bottom up slowly and surely.

The exalted Home Minister and the ROS had just been caught out telling lies regarding the DAP’s report submission in the mainstream media. What have you got to say about this, my good Tun? Only the ROS apologised. The Minister do not even have the good grace to admit he was wrong and apologise.
And Tun, whilst on the subject of your claim of the manipulation of the alternative media during the PSY concert in Penang. I love your very creative conclusion of how the “Opposition came prepared with video cameras and recorded the noes…” Only I am troubled by the question how would the “Opposition” know beforehand that Najib would ask the question “..are you ready for BN?” and so came prepared with the video cameras and the ‘Nos”. Are you implying the opposition can read Najib’s mind into the future? Wow!! I would surely love to have the Opposition rule this country if they can predict the future. They will be able to predict the global economy, oil prices and other important economic activities and ensure Malaysians will have a rich and prosperous future.

Although it is regrettable that there are Malaysians who still support UMNO/BN
in spite of the fact that it is corrupted, cheating, lying, deviant and scam ridden.
However, this support must be seen in the following context:
These people are:
1. insane
2. brain dead
3. cronies
4. masochistic
5. mercenaries
6. hare brained
So, supporters of UMNO/BN, which category do you fit in?

This man can put any thing to your mouth and yet like it or other wise you will think on hind sight is right.
He can argue until the deer become the horse.
He use his intelligent to manipulate to his and his cronies favour with majorities realising the damage.
In that sense he is no doubt one of the ‘great’ leader in the political arena.
After his so call retirement he is still very much in command. He is still a force behind his political party. GE13 will see how much this man influence on Malaysian politic.

Cintanegara, a Statesman would not stoop so low as to stoke up racial sentiments, an irresponsible politician would. Only those who have been deceived/misled by him love him. After he has left the scene, most people will just forget about him.
