Najib and Hishammuddin must condemn and dissociate themselves if they do not want to be regarded as encouraging a political culture of aggression, thuggery and violence by their prolonged silence on recent series of disruptions and attacks on PR functions

The question Malaysians are asking is whether the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussin are encouraging a political culture of aggression, thuggery and violence by their failure to condemn the recent series of disruptions and attacks on Pakatan Rakyat functions!

Is this the route for Malaysia to take to become the world’s best democracy as Najib had boasted after Bersih 2.0 on July 9 last year?

Is this the example Najib is setting for the world on what he meant when he called for a Global Movement of Moderates to isolate and marginalize the extremists?

Yesterday, a Pakatan Rakyat ceramah in Lembah Pantai was pelted with eggs and stones, leaving several injured and bloodied.

Earlier this week, another PR ceramah in Pekan Bangi, Selangor was disrupted by a group who threw stones at the crowd.

Last Saturday, a high-tea event in Merlimau that was scheduled to feature Bersih 2.0 co-chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenivasan was blocked by protestors and two DAP Malacca State Assemblymen, Khoo Poay Tiong (Ayer Keroh ) and Tey Kok Kiew (Bandar Hilir) were pelted with eggs and stones, while several vehicles were damaged.

This morning, the office of PKR MP for Lembah Pantai Nurul Izzah in Pantai Dalam was pelted with more eggs while PAS Bukit Gantang MP and former Pakatan Rakyat Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin complained that eleven cars were splashed with blue paint at his ceramah in Kampung Sayong Lembah, Kuala Kangsar yesterday.

For more than a week, my call for the restoration of decency and civility to politics and public life in Malaysia had fallen completely on deaf ears as far as the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Home Minister and UMNO/Barisan Nasional Ministers and political leaders are concerned – although one “uncivilized” act after another had marred Malaysian politics and public life like the Perkasa “funeral rite” in front of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s house in Penang, the setting up of a burger stall and the “butt dance” by a group of armed forces veteran in front of Ambiga’s house at Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur and the demonstrations by anti-Bersih groups outside Ambiga’s house yesterday.

The Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Home Minister, UMNO/Barisan Nasional Ministers and leaders are continuing to comment on all sorts of things under the sun but they are signally silent on the increase and escalation of incidents of aggression, thuggery and violence particularly at Pakatan Rakyat events and functions.

What message is Najib and Hishammuddin seeking to convey with their silence, which could only be construed as “silent blessing” for the spate of aggression, thuggery and violence at Pakatan Rakyat functions?

Najib and Hishammuddin must condemn and dissociate themselves from the increase and escalation of deplorable incidents at PR events if they do not want to be regarded as encouraging a political culture of aggression, thuggery and violence by their prolonged silence on the recent series of disruptions and attacks on PR functions!

Who ? What ? Me ? Now we have two Alfred E Neumans running this country’s security apparatus.

  2. #2 by Godfather on Friday, 25 May 2012 - 4:10 pm

Methinks the two cousins have some idea of who’s behind these mob attacks, including the funding, but they are afraid to go after them for fear of splitting UMNO further. It will take some real bloodshed before they will act. For the time being, people like Mamakthir try to turn the tables by insisting that violence comes from Pakatan.

  3. #3 by NotBN on Friday, 25 May 2012 - 4:12 pm

They failed the people by their inaction. Therefore BN should quit. But before running away they should be held responsible and accountable for all consequences including those yet to happen arising from their failure to act.

  4. #4 by Godfather on Friday, 25 May 2012 - 4:16 pm

Mamakthir is the worst culprit of all – by “predicting” that violence will come from Pakatan should Pakatan lose the elections. It’s a greenlight for these mobs to continue, and an endorsement of the current violence perpetrated by UMNO goons even before the elections have started. One wonders what it’ll be like when UMNO loses the elections. Pure submission from UMNO ? I don’t think so, but then Mamakthir would have taken refuge in Kerala or Zimbabwe.

It’s continuous provocations to the level with eggs and stone thrown.
It started with vocal abusive language to disrupt PR road shows.
Najib talk one thing and do the opposite is world famous.
This is a prelude to call off GE or have it as soon as possible.
Najib hopes to win by creating fear…OR….praying to all the gods for violence to disrupt the whole country….so no GE and out come Emergency Rule.
He hopes fears will make Malaysians “don’t rock the boat” and keep BN in control.
Why does UMNO b bragging they will govern forever resort to hooliganism?

    Fortunately, none was killed.

Give them another term or other arrangements for a peaceful and smooth transfer of power to clean up the mess and rebuild, if they lose?????

The culture of monkeys and cowards comes alive. Do you think they dare do this without being protected? The day of reckoning will come soon to these monkeys. The same fate will befallen them like those monkeys and cowards supporting the tyrants of Arabia.

Hello Uncle Lim – stop calling victim and be on the ready. By that I mean – we can all anticipate the anti-social brigade – so next best thing to do is to record visual evidence of the ruckus.

In no way am I suggesting hitting back or any form of retaliation but think/act smart by anticipating potential areas of conflict – really need to be one step ahead here folks.

Having said that, for the future, perhaps some recon can be made ahead of planned gathering/ceramah/function – have stage/arena stategically set up ie one way in with little access to escape and best protect participants from any disturbance – in short – be professional as we are on our own, whatwith police already a basketcase with inaction (anticipate and be vigilant for all our sake’s) but there will come a day, perpetrators will slip up and I hope Pakatan organisers have on the ready security detail to handle/apprehend such trouble-makers.

Before 1969, such mob behaviour over such thing as the right to assemble and freedom of expression and in fact not even over wealth and income. How is it 40+ years of UMNO-led rule with entitlement policy, the basis of their main policy for their corruption and abuse, is EVEN more provocative.

The blame game being played by UMNO-cracy is a game of dragging others into the swill they well in themselves because they live in the garbage they create and spew. If there are those that can’t control themselves from smelling too, its because they are only human sometimes weakened from being constantly dragged and bombarded with swill and garbage.

ITS the job of national leadership to lead the nation away from the ever-lower sinking politics even if they pre-exist. But the swill that we get stinked with is THEIR creation. if they are not responsible for smell, is someone else especially the rakyat?

I really love the 1Malaysia PM, his cousin the HM and all the thugs that have been let loose to create havoc and mayhem. Oh how much I love these lunatics!

The more they behave as if they have escaped from Tanjung Rambutan and Tampoi, the more the rakyat would love the UMNO leaders.

I purposely left out the neutered MCA, MIC, GERAKAN, etc leaders because they behave like eunuchs in the presence of their masters.

All moderate Malays, Chinese, Indians , Kadazans, Dusuns, Bajaus and Dayaks are so happy to see UMNO shooting its own legs. They are bent on committing hara kiri and it would be foolish on our part to stop them or even to reason with them.

When suicide appears to be their only option even the PDRM has decided to let them do whatever they like. The PDRM has been reduced to the role of spectators. Isn’t just great?

The final nail on their collective coffins would be driven on 13th GE polling day.

Wouldn’t that be a great send off for leaders of the “world’s best democracy”?

The escalation of political violence by BN members and supporters is sign of a moribund ruling party.

Those umno idiots have been shooting themselves in the foot on a regular basis. And guess wot? There is nothing left for them to shoot at. So they began shooting themselves in the leg and thigh. And even those parts have vanish. Now they are happily shooting their own bola2.

The both of them together with Rais and Nazri see these acts as ‘part of Malaysian culture’ so they have not commented on or taken any action.

When they turn to brawn and brute force, you know they are no longer in control of their senses.

They are no longer using whatever brains they have. They may be going mentally unstable and might go amok soon. It starts with the head downwards. There may not be a cure for this ailment.

    sheriff..eggs PRICES are controlled items.
Throwing eggs at someone…..is not under control….but in countries with a good government….the police will immediately arrest all for few reasons…one of which is only a nut will throw eggs at others..and another is making the streets dirty.

    How about another fatwa ?

  22. #22 by sheriff singh on Saturday, 26 May 2012 - 2:47 am

Don’t be picky. The SUPPLY of eggs and consequently their price, is under control.

I wish the same can be said of cows and their meat. But that’s another sad story.

Do u expect angels from lucifer’s gang?
Can u expect brackish water to supply freshness?
Can u turn back the winds or cause the tides to cease?

    So forget about these no-hopers.
    Concentrate on winning GE-13.
Spend the time meeting the Rakyat & tell them the message.
