Najib at risk of becoming the first Kafkaesque Prime Minister in Malaysia who does not mean what he says and does not say what he means

Datuk Seri Najib Razak runs the risk of becoming the first Kafkaesque Prime Minister in Malaysia who does not mean what he says and does not say what he means.

“Kafkaesque” relates to or suggestive of Franz Kafka or his writings and is often applied to bizarre and impersonal administrative situations where the individual feels powerless to understand or control what is happening.

The national sigh of relief evoked by the wise and just intervention of the Yang diPertuan Agong on Monday – that the “gathering storm” in the past week over the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9 calling for free, fair and clean elections could be dispelled – lasted only 24 hours, for it proved to be both short-lived and premature.

As a direct consequence of the wise and just intervention of the Yang di Pertuan Agong, Bersih organisers called off the July 9 march and instead agreed to hold a rally at any stadium as proposed by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

However, when the Bersih organisers decided on Merdeka Stadium as the venue for the peaceful rally for free, fair and clean elections, all sorts of roadblocks and obstacles were thrown up by the various authorities despite the fact that such a rally at Merdeka Stadium had the blessings of the Yang di Pertuan Agong, viz:

  • The Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s insistence that Bersih is still illegal (suggesting that the Yang di Pertuan Agong had met with unlawful characters), that the Bersih T-shirts were still unlawful and that the law would apply to close to 200 persons arrested in connection with the proposed Bersih 2.0 march on Saturday;
  • Police insistence that the Bersih stadium rally requires a police permit;
  • The snub by the Merdeka Stadium authorities refusing to allow the use of the stadium for Bersih 2.0 rally; and
  • The statement by the Minister for Information, Communications and Culture Datuk Dr. Rais Yatim late yesterday evening that the Cabinet had decided not to allow Bersih to use Merdeka Stadium as the venue for the July 9 rally.
  • Najib capped these roadblocks and obstacles with his most irresponsible act in his 27 months as Prime Minister when he “passed the buck” of the Bersih 2.0 stadium rally to the police claiming that Bersih, “although still an illegal entity, will have to make an official application to the police” – without explaining how an illegal entity could make such an application or why the Prime Minister is not prepared to take responsibility for the stadium rally which has the blessings of the Yang di Pertuan Agong but allow it to be derailed.

    With the refusal of the Home Minister to stand down the police apparatus of repression and reports of the Federal Government suspending multiple public services this weekend including full or partial clampdown on the internet to foil the Bersih 2.0 stadium rally at Merdeka Stadium, unnecessary police roadblocks choking traffic and business, it would appear that the just and wise intervention of the Yang di Pertuan Agong had been in vain.

    At the height of the Egyptian popular uprising in February, Najib called for an end to the bloodshed in Egypt and stressed the importance for its people to decide the future of the country.

    He said the Malaysian government want both sides – Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Egyptian protestors – to not resort to any form of violence and there not be any casualties as “the people only want to show where they stand regarding the leadership of the Egyptian government”.

    Najib had added: “In a democratic system, we must prioritise the people and that is why any solution in Egypt must be based on demands and wants of the people to determine the future of their government.”

    Why then is Najib ignoring his own advice to Mubarak in February?

    Why has Najib allowed the authorities to step up their threats in the joint police-army crowd control simulation exercise two days ago, conspicuously warning that participants will be short if a dispersal order is not heeded?

    It is reported that the Prime Minister will be leaving for overseas tomorrow. He should not do so but should be in the country to ensure that the Bersih 2.0 stadium rally on July 9 as agreed upon as a result of the wise and just intervention of the Yang di Pertuan Agong and with his concurrence is held in a smooth, peaceful and orderly manner.

      PM Najib,a true leader must do what he says he will do,and he will do what he says he will do.Just plain and simple.

      PM Najib,a bad leader must not do what he says he will do,and he will not do what he says he will do.Just plain and simple.

      In Russia, they have found a python with 2 heads.

      Let’s name the python “Na-jis”.

      Future generations of doubleheaded snakes will just be called “Najis”. It sounds so appropriate.

      I disagree. Its not Kafka. What we have is INFANTILISM. The man is burrying his head in the sand, ignoring his problem and wishing it will go away..His job is at stake, maybe even his very life but he think its more important to trip to UK and Vatican?

      To solve the problem, the Agong should allow his palace and the surrounding areas to be used.Since he had given the blessing the Police and the government could be overruled. It looks like Najib is fleeing the country further showing that he does not want to be caught up like Mubarak. It is only a feeble leader who leaves his beloved country. He is a bad example. He should have resigned together with Hishamuddin for bringing about this situation.

      PM Najib, you did not do what you said that you will do.In that case you have openly accepted that you are a bad and hopeless leader. You are an embarrasment to the people and will go down in history as the “chickened livered PM” in Malaysian history.

      I hope Vatican will cancel Najib’s audience with His Holiness, Pope Benedict becos Najib and wife are not fit to stand on holy grounds. They are leaving the country when the nation is in crisis?!!! They have no utterly respect for our beloved King, how can they respect His Holiness, Pope Benedict. They are a public shame to Malaysians and not fit to even meet the Pope’s butler for that matter

      When you are facing the prospect of being charged for corruption or even murder if you lose the next election, being called coward, man of no principles, slimeball, power abuser, etc is the lesser of two evils.

      And this dirty strategy is what you get for paying RM70m to consultants. It is worth every sen to save your neck, literally.

      Let’s hope Pope Benedict will bless Ros and Najis to repent in a trance through holy whatnot spirits in them and make them squat and rise with hands pulling their earlobes hundreds times.

      Najip is not fit to be even a simple minister and is a disgrace to the country! The Vatican is aware of all the discrimination from UMNO against Christians in the country and all of UMNO’s corruption and abuse of power. I am sure the Pope will tell off Najib diplomatically.

      Najib is the only PM in Malaysia who has not got his mandate from the people. He sneakily undermined Abdullah Badawi and was appointed by 200 people in UMNO to be the pretend PM. Admittedly, he could have call for a snap election within 3 months of his appointment to obtain a mandate but he did not have the courage to face the people. Instead he tried to soften his image through his political chicanery and religious cant of caring for the people with his 1Malaysia fakery.

      The last time I wrote on this blog was to express my disappointment on Bersih’s mere acceptance of a stadium without testing the sincerity of Najib’s olive branch. I was right in my assessment that Bersih and the people of Malaysia was suckered by Najib big time and were the bigger losers in this game.

      But now with even the stadium being denied by the regime to Bersih, I am appalled by Najib’s temerity to make the Agong look like a fool. Najib has a history of backpedalling on promises and official government policies. Yet Bersih was not being careful about Najib’s shenanigans and got tricked instead. At this point Najib has the last laugh but the final and ultimate laugh will be Bersih’s.

      From what Najib offered and later pass the buck to police , you know that this prime minister cannot be trusted,
      Najib is leaving his country when there is a rally going on, a coward, and also an irresponsible prime minister, giving powers to police to harass their own citizens/Malaysian.
      To all the voters out there, is this the government you voted for?.
      As a citizen, I feel there is nothing wrong with : Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9 calling for free, fair and clean elections , unless Najib is really running a dirty and unfair elections.
      Najib is wasting all tax payers’ money by asking police and FRU to stage road block here and there, the Police should really do more patrolling to keep residents safe from robbers and burglars and not waste time road blocking here and there and arresting tax payers who pays their salaries.

      We really have to change this present government.
