Just a reminder to PAS; it is PR’s victory, not yours alone. Be liberal and be inclusive, this is the way to go.

Purge all fanatics, bigots, racists, opportunists and trouble makers within PR now. Don’t be afraid by purging them the coalition will lose support. The coalition can withstand all these nonsense now. Get rid of them now, let them join BN, they are scumbags. Focus on getting good men and women to join the party. There is no need to get all rejects from BN.

  4. #4 by ekompute on Tuesday, 25 August 2009 - 11:11 pm

Wow, BN did slice PAS’s majority by 0.17%! That in itself is a great achievement, considering that Permatang Pasir was once an Umno stronghold, kekekekekeeeeeee.

Voters of Per’MATANG’ Pasir have shown that they have come of age. They have answered Mahathir’s insult for saying that Malaysians have short memory by rejecting a candidate of dubious character from a sinful party whose leaders have betrayed the nation and people for the past 52 years.

Congratulations to the victors, especially, the voters of PP. You are a shining example to all Malaysians who are fighting for regime change for a better tomorrow when all rakyat will be solidly united as ONE and truely proud to be MALAYSIANS.

Let not this victory get into the head of PAS/PR leaders. You win not because you are good, but because Mahathir’s UMNO Baru /BN leaders are very BAD – corrupt to the core.

PR leaders must DO what UMNO Baru leaders SAY what they want to do for the people. But DO NOT DO what they DO.

  10. #10 by alaneth on Tuesday, 25 August 2009 - 11:50 pm

I agree with limkamput, Taxidriver & those who agrees this is a PR win & not PAS’ win.

PAS is always a fanatical Islamist party. PAS Youth wants to stop MLTR performing even in Genting (a closed venue). Not to say Stadium Merdeka or what! Real fanatics. I never ever support PAS. If given a choice UMNO – PAS, I’ll make undi rosak!

At least UMNO is opening their eyes now after their lost but PAS is still blindly thinking PR’s victory in the last GE is a stepping stone for them to establish an Islamic state.

  11. #11 by Taxidriver on Tuesday, 25 August 2009 - 11:56 pm

What does this defeat for UMNO Baru/BN in PP indicate? A rejection of Najib’s leadership, a kick on Moooo-E- Din’s S, a spit on Mah Ah Tee’s face……….???????????

  12. #12 by ekompute on Wednesday, 26 August 2009 - 12:41 am

After show hand, it is nice to read back what UMNO said before the Permatang Pasir results are known:

Rohaizat: “”Although I will be contesting for the first time, I am confident of winning the battle as in politics, anything is possible.”
(Note: Anything also includes losing, LOL)

Muhyiddin: “Yes, it’s a PAS stronghold but it’s been proven in the Manik Urai state consituency, which is another stronghold but we can undermine their strength. We will adopt certain strategies to tackle the problems of the voters in the area, God willing,”
(Note: Results shows God not willing, LOL.)

NST: “Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed confidence of a good showing by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Permatang Pasir by-election today. He said voter turnout had reached the halfway mark by mid-day and the feedback from grassroot leaders was positive for the BN. ”
(Note: Feedback from grassroot leaders sends Muhyiddin to Timbuktu, LOL.)

Now Rohaizat, the liar and cheat, was sad that the Chinese there, whom the Penang Umno bosses persistently labeled as pendatang, failed to be grateful to Umno/BN and to vote for him
    Thick skinned liar and pencuri

It’s the right time for BN MPs and state assemblymen to do the rakyat a big fat favor by kicking the bucket, esp during bulan suci

The wind of change has been blowing strongly since 308 General Election and it has created a non-stopable momentum which will last until the completion of next General Election! The strong wind has one unchangeable destination — to blow Umno off from the platform of mainstream political power of Malaysia!

  16. #16 by GreenBug on Wednesday, 26 August 2009 - 2:21 am

The sore loser Rohaizad blamed the loss on Chinese voters failing to honor their promise of support. UMNO / BN might have forgotten but these voters have not.

Only 4 months ago, hundreds of their children who scored more than 10As in the STPM failed to obtain JPA scholarships. They were betrayed.

The DPM then set 10 subjects as maximum for future STPM further insinuating these people ‘cheated’ the system. Again, they felt let down.

UMNO / BN might have forgotten but to these people, the betrayal is still fresh wounds.

BN/UMNO is like a dying old man afflicted with cancer-johnnypok

Mahathir ‘murdered’ UMNO in the year One Thousand Nine Hundred And Eighty-Seven and set up his own party, UMNO Baru. Its leaders use the NEP to amassed great wealth for themselves, relatives and cronies instead of helping the poor Malays, thereby betraying, not only their own race and fellow muslims, but also causing disunity amnog the different races to achieve their own ends.

308 tsunami and the by-elections that followed shows that their days are numbered.

Wahai! Bangunlah Rakyat Malaysia. Tolak UMNO Baru-Pengkhianat Bangsa, Agama dan Negara.

  19. #19 by frankyapp on Wednesday, 26 August 2009 - 5:56 am

The voters voted PP,not PAS salleh Man.Though in someways it’s PAS victory too. Similarly, the majority of the voters rejected BN especially UMNO most and least it’s candidate Rohaizat.I’m pretty happy that the permantang pasir voters have shown maturity to elect PP and reject BN.If all the voters throughout the nation would show such political maturity like in Permantang Pasir,PP chance to win in the 13th GE is pretty good but should PP itself could show more maturity and unity, then the chance to capture the federal government is definitely sure.Hence all three component parties of PP should buck up right away now.Good job and sincere congratulation,PP.

    poisoning the minds of voters,
    insulting Islam,

Hi monsterballssgoh, please don’t worry about East Malaysians,we know what to do.The main thing is PR must buck up and united. The PR list of candidates is important too.The list should content people of good character, intergrity and an interest to serve the people.Should the PR list fulfiled at least the abovementioned,I can assure you ,victory would be accomplished.

//PAS is always a fanatical Islamist party. PAS Youth wants to stop MLTR performing even in Genting (a closed venue)// – by alaneth #10 on August 25th, 2009 23:50.

It is sanguine and wishful thinking to expect PAS to change its theoicratic agenda to be more liberal and inclusive. As the saying goes, a leopard does not change its spots. Nothing since last general election has shown that with non mulsim support it is prepared to ameliorate its traditional position. Its strategy is to use Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to emplace its ideologues in positions that could advance its agenda – not at one go (that will shock), but piece meal step by step so that people get bused to the first step in order to accept the second, until finally all the marginal advancements represent one big gain!

Case in point is PAS’s Datuk Dr Hassan Ali being placed in such position in Selangor.

The state Pas commissioner’s initiated a ban the sale of beer in Muslim majority areas in Selangor. (This has never happened since independence. Yes Shariah enactments might be in place but they were not aggressively interpreted and enforced under BN administration). Before PR MB Khalid could diffuse this initiative, the state Pas commissioner has now empowered mosque officials to assist religious officers to arrest Muslims caught drinking or even selling alcohol. It was unilateral decision which was taken without endorsement of state exco. At the same time PAS Youth calls for ban of Michael Learns To Rock even in closed area like Genting’s Arena of atars!

PAS then is absolutely banking on 4 factors to ensure its step by step advancement of agenda riding on PR’s back:

First: the fact that increasingly more and more of mainstream is withdrawing support of BN/UMNO, which other than cosmetic changes to manage public perception, is like a tiger uinable to lose its stripes, cannot meaningfully re-invent and end the endemic corruption and abuse of power perceived as beleaguering its administration. The victories of Islamic fundamentalistic parties in Middle East in particular Iran have leveraged successfully on the back of ruling elites unable to reinvent the corrupt status quo.

Second, many in this country still are affected by appeals to race and religion. So if BN’s race appeal is set off by negative perception of corruption, then PAS’s appeal to Malay constitutncy based on religion will be in better position, minus, at least the negative perception of corruption.

Third, if non malays/non Muslim constitutencies are “king makers”, tilting the balance in a place like Permatang Pasir, then PAS plays on their misplaced sanguinity that greater moral policing of Muslims is Ok as it does not affect them Non Muslims. Actually its not OK as there are bigger issues at stake here – constitutional liberties of all Malaysians, whether Muslims or non Muslims but even the champions of these principles within POR’s fold are at best squirming uncomfortably silent in fear of upsetting PR’s unity, blocking the winds of change blowing since last election etc – in short behaving no different from the component parties within BN that they criticize as being subservient to UMNO.

Fourth : the fact is none or party within PR could stand up to PAS if PR were to gain political success against BN. Anwar himself has his own problems, has been silent leaving most of the criticizing to Kit. Anwar himself admits PKR is “weakest link” and DAP could not garner majority Malay support. So far Zaid Ibrahim has not announced any headway of a start-up common agenda and platform for the three political parties which make up PR, and its not sure that he could. PAS perceives, with justification, that it is the kingpin within PR political firmament that will dictate the future course of the country if BN loses power.

Frankly this latest by election – nothing to cheer about
In fact, so far, all the by elections won by PR, nothing to cheer lah
It’s a zero gain game – PR just managed to win back seats held by PR before the by elections
Had PR won the only by election that they lost in Sarawak, then there is loud cheer
Furthermore, this time round, the Umno candidate was downright bottom of the pit
    Confirmed liar and cheat
If PR candidate lost to him, truly malu lah to all Malaysians
Yet the cheat could still get 5000+ votes, seppuku/harakiri lah blinkered voters

We need BN MPs and state assemblymen to vacate their seats to test PR real strength
Win a buy election caused by the death of a BN incumbent, barulah PR can cheer

Meanwhile, watch your own backside, PR
Some PR YB are itching to become Yang Boleh-dibeli and Yang Berlompat

Boh-liao has a valid point. The worrying fact is that a clear cheat and liar could still secure 5000 votes. That is really mind-boggling. Are umno supporters that blind? Or are they so overwhelmed by the feeling insecurity? No doubt umno is in fact a large brolly to these people. But for how long more can umno keep it open? Those in umno who are charged with that duty (of holding the brolly open) are weak both intellectually (a result of umno’s (-)meritocracy system) and physically (because of obesity brought on by easy corruption monies). What they now resort to are dirty tricks, oppression and more money politics. A political party that resorts to such tactics is a truly weak party.

If PR gets into power at the next elections and PAS continues with its Islamic agenda, then the stage could be set for the DAP and even PKR to seek coperation of reform-minded BN MPs to work out a compromise solution that will get the support of moderate Malaysians who actually from the majority but are still too chicken to get dirty with politics.
That is how the 2-party system can evolve in the future.
Working with a radical party to retain power is really nothing new but the leaders have their work cut out for them.

Having a People’s Declaration is good but is it really practical? After all politics is the art of the possible and parties can change over time. Of course we really need the state institutions to be working but in Malaysia many bodies have become tainted.
I expect mergers and de-couplings between parties will be part of the political development in Malaysia.
Ideals are good but compromise can be considered a necessary evil or the “rent-a-mob” folks can change governments every few months untill the military takes over.
