Is Muhyiddin for or against Najib’s 1Malaysia concept and why 1Malaysia concept is not the primary theme of Umno/BN in Permatang Pasir by-election?

The 52nd National Day is just ten days away but never before in the nation’s 52-year history have preparations for National Day celebrations been marred and threatened by so many black clouds – the A (H1N1) pandemic which has claimed 67 lives and the almost daily barrage attacking Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia concept in the exploitation of the race and religious cards by Umno leaders.

What is quite incredible is that the person leading the campaign of race and religion representing an open repudiation of Najib’s 1Malaysia concept is none other than the Deputy Prime Minister and Umno Deputy President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as illustrated by his utterances in the Permatang Pasir by-election campaign.

Let Muhyiddin answer whether he is for or against Najib’s 1Malaysia concept and if he supports the 1Malaysia concept, why is this not the primary theme of Umno/Barisan Nasional in the Permatang Pasir by-election instead of a campaign line which is the very opposite repudiating everything that 1Malaysia stands for?

Even before the Permatang Pasir by-election, Muhyiddin had already spearheaded a vitriolic Umno attack on Pakatan Rakyat by remorselessly and relentlessly cranking up communal sentiments starting with his repeated charge that Parliamentary Opposition Leader and PKR chief, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is “a traitor to the Malay race” (with Umno divisions mobilizing all over the country to support Muhyiddin in calling Anwar a Malay “traitor), as well as other baseless and mischievous allegations that PAS has betrayed Islam by working with DAP and that DAP had insulted Islam by working with PAS!

Muhyiddin may think that he could play the role of a Malaysian statesman after the Permatang Pasir by-election on August 25, saying all the nice, good and proper things about the country’s biggest challenge to maintain unity and racial harmony among its people from various ethnic backgrounds in the few days before National Day on August 31.

Muhyiddin should know that it is the height of irresponsibility for a Deputy Prime Minister to be playing the race and religious cards to the hilt in the Permatang Pasir by-election, straining race and religious understanding and ties to the utmost just for the sake of winning votes, and then hoping to undo the great harm done to nation-building in the by-election in the few days before the 52nd National Day on August 31.

How can Muhyiddin convince Malaysians that he is being honest and sincere about 1Malaysia when the country celebrates the 52nd National Day when he can lead a campaign which repudiates the very essence of the 1Malaysia concept in the Permatang Pasir by-election less than a week before National Day?

What Malaysians want from a Deputy Prime Minister is not a political chameleon but a political statesman and Malaysian leader.

In fact, what Muhyiddin said in the past few days have also exposed the hollowness of the commitment of Umno/Barisan Nasional government to integrity and good governance.

For instance, in response to allegations that Muhyiddin had set a bad example and abused his powers as Deputy Prime Minister in using RMAF Nuri helicopters, not for official purposes, but for officiating Umno division functions in Sabah (which came to public knowledge last weekend when the military helicopter Muhyiddin was flying had a forced landing) was the arrogant retort: “It (the allegations) does not scare me at all”.

That shows Muhyiddin’s utter contempt for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) from the safety of immunity he enjoys despite the MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan’s most recent and lame protestation: “Everybody is the same and no one is accorded special treatment”!

Muhyiddin’s arrogance of power and contempt for integrity were again in display yesterday in his response to the Bar Council’s disbarment of the Umno candidate for Permatang Pasir by-election Rohaizat Othman for personal misconduct last year, likening the Bar Council’s fines to “parking tickets”!

What more need be said? These statements bespeak volumes!

Frankly this is a golden opportunity to break apart the Najib & Muhiyiddin. If Permatang Pasir result becomes really bad, then Najib & Muhiyiddin is going to deny that they are blaming each other. But the truth is their difference dates back long ago. Remember Muhiyiddin was in running for DPM under Badawi until Mahathir tipped it in his favour. And Badawi was finally brought down by Muhiyiddin actually so he feels highly entitled and will not take much criticism from Najib who he probably feel is undeserving of his position..

Najib has always been suspicious of Muhiyiddin and during UMNO GA, he tipped the scale in Muhiyiddin favour and so he don’t feel he owe Muhiyiddin anything..Muhiyiddin may feel otherwise.

Hence the relationship between the two cannot be more dysfunctional. The dysfunctionality will manifest itself when it comes under pressure..

Get a resounding win in Permatang Pasir and Anwar can start preparing to be Prime Minister..

    i speculate that:
    1. my looks at the voter mix in permatang pasir and said “1malay-sia’ is more appropriate than 1malaysia.

    2. nr does not want my to use the 1malaysia slogan in the by election because a lost in this by election will make the slogan tainted with failure (with high chance!). what’s more it is close to merdeka day. nr will have no face to use the failed slogan then, when the rakyat will laugh at it as a joke.

umno’s primary theme in the Permatang Pasir by-election is “Disbarred lawyer can be trusted to be your assemblyman. Please give all your money to him.”

Muhyiddin is crap, everyone know that. UMNO is running out of ideas or Muhyiddin simply doesn’t give a sh*t about 1Malaysia. Inside UMNO all abang adik, cakap tak serupa bikin! Step down and spare yourself further embarrassment Najib, you are just buying times, there is no meaning to stay there if the only thing you can do is nothing.

The late Tan Sri Othman Saat former Johor MB brought in Muhyiddin (who was a nobody then) into UMNO and gave him the Pagoh Parliamentary seat on a silver platter.

He later challenged Othman and defeated him for the Pagoh Umno chief’s post.
Othman called him an ungrateful man.
Now what can one expect from such a character.
His personal interest supersedes every ethics, morality ad decency.
Ironically, these are the type of people who ascend the UMNO heirachy.

Actually, the Permatang Pasir strategy was already done for the whole campaign, it was:

    1. 1Malaysia
    2. ISA amendment
    3. PR bickering
    4. Kg Buah Pala rescued by BN (I think this will happen still)
    5. PAS candidate has always been shunned
    6. BN will bring tremendous economic development, maybe a new bridge will be promised (this is ok, EC will not charge BN for saying it)

But now with the BN candidate having been disbarred the whole game has changed la. What to do now. Go on the offensive with stories and all. Not bad huh? BN is pretty capable!

Muhyiddin is trying to find his own niche, instead of living under Najib’s 1Malaysia! Anyway, Muhyiddin is a short-sighted, arrogant and racist leader, and I don’t think his political career will last long!!!

You are right Kit about this man. Muhyiddin’s arrogance of power and contempt for integrity will hang like a sword of Damocles over Umno politics.

As it is now, he is strutting around like a man possessed with great ambition and showing his great disdain for everything that’s not Malay-centric. Does he really subscribe to the 1Malaysia idea as propagated by his boss?

If we go by what he has been saying, definitely no. The more he opens his mouth the more we become suspicious of this man.

Some say he’s a skilful political animal but intellectually retarded which may well be true.

At the end of the day, we’d like to ask: Is this man fit to become Prime Minister of Malaysia if Najib were to step down or something like that?

That’s the question which is troubling our mind as we see more and more people looking out for reforms, to reach out for social justice, fair play and equality.

There’s a sense of something not right within the dark walls of Umno when we are observing what the Right Hand is doing as against what the Left Hand is doing. The contrast is great.

Can one imagine what Mahathir would do if his No. 2 were to go against what he stands for?

Things never change, its hard for people to change, there will never be 1Malaysia at the rate the DPM is going:

    http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/25879/84/

Same old story, race and religion. Hence, I am wary, will DSAI also change? So far can see he has changed to gain support for him to become PM.

    Who will save Malaysia?

DPM Muhyiddin is a disgrace to bangsa, agama dan negara . Period.

Just look at all his wild and nincompoop utterances. Malaysian DPM? I would be ashamed if he were my clerk or driver. Period.

  14. #14 by yhsiew on Thursday, 20 August 2009 - 3:55 pm

Muhyiddin must not sabotage what Najib has envisioned – 1Malaysia.

His impatient rush to kick Najib off his PM seat so that he can ascend to the PM throne will inevitably wreak havoc on nation building. Muhyiddin must wait patiently until his time comes to helm the country.

Of course Muhyiddin was not scared by the allegations that he abused his power by using RMAF Nuri helicopters, not for official purposes, but for officiating Umno division functions in Sabah as he in in command of the MACC.

Yusri Isahak, Rohaizat’s former law firm partner, testified this morning that he has been made a scapegoat by Rohaizat. I wonder what Muhyiddin has to say in regard to his likening of the Bar Council’s fines to “parking tickets”!

Of course MY realises that he can never be the next PM unless he dethrones Najib as the latter is much younger than him.
And seeing the uncouth manner in which he got rid of Badawi, I suspect he may have some ambition left over to push further.
So Najib can actually use the much-publicised helicopter rides to solve 2 problems with one action:

Boost the fallen image of the MACC
and secure his job for a bit longer.

Let’s not forget 1Malaysia is Najib’s slogan, not Muhyiddin’s. Not sure whether Muhyiddin understand what the concept is. Mahathir certainly doesn’t know.

And Muhyiddin was not elected DPM by the people but by some UMNO members. So he really doesn’t have the people’s mandate nor support and he should realise this and not talk too much. Of late, he’s been having a very bad time saying and doing all the wrong things like a bull in a china shop. A bit like a Gordon Brown wanna be but a yet to be. Not very comforting is it?

  21. #21 by monsterballssgoh on Thursday, 20 August 2009 - 9:01 pm

hahahahaha….Myhyiddin or UMNO promoting Najib’s “1 Malaysia” at the by-election will be clobbered with voters sick of their hypocracies.
That was meant to fool Malaysians at large….especially young voters.
They dare not use “1 Malaysia” to promote…as in by-elections….not easy for UMNO to fool others.
Voters can now listen to both sides….not like reading papers.
Yes…..if “1 Malaysia” is such a great idea…lets see UMNO use it to win votes.

So is Najib really sincere and serious in ‘implementing ‘ 1Malaysia concept?

If his deputy’s act is not ‘in the same tune’ with Najib’s slogan -1Malaysia, Najib’s stand can be deduced from his acts and abstinence in responding to his deputy’s acts(especially those controversial racist tone). If he just keep quiet about his deputy’s act, the people caqn take is as Najib is ratifying Muhyiddin’s racist stand or even presumed that Muhyiddin is carrying out Najib’s instruction…

So is it really 1Malaysia? Or more accurately reflected is Barisan Nasional ‘1Munafik’ ?

come to think of it, DPM is also the Education Minister.

how is he going to reconcile with the school books which encourage national unity and racial harmony

as a DPM and Education Minister, he lets political struggle agenda supersede his responsibilities as a leader for all community, a people’s representative, a paid top civil servant and a promoter of peace and harmony in line with commonsense and all religion.

since he is taking his salary and perks from all tax payers, should he not at least show some gratitude to tax payers of all races, since he was the one who chided “ungrat4eful Chinese”?

“Is Muhyiddin for or against Najib’s 1Malaysia concept?”

It may be more appropriate to ask: “Is Muhyiddin for or against Najib”, before we even consider the above question. We must first eliminate the possibility that Muhyiddin is actually against Najib before any answer is meaningful. But the way I look at it, it does look like Muhyiddin is already gunning the No. 1 post.

Umno plays race card, and unsettles many
    ==========================

Like several other political analysts, Professor Welsh also warns that the increasingly shrill debate, particularly over the issues of race and religion, could easily spin out of control and further fracture race relations in the country.

“The race-and-religion discourse is based on the premise that if the rights of a particular group are challenged, the country will trip into instability. This isn’t a safe road to take,” she says, referring to the campaign spearheaded by several government-controlled newspapers alleging that the rights of the country’s politically dominant ethnic Malays were being challenged.

What good can come out from this MBJ – Menteri BOROS Johor. This is the man who talks but do not perform. This is the man who said he wanted to turn Johor Bahru into a Garden City, who kept on planting and replanting trees and shrubs all over Johor Bahru and Johor but the plants never grew. Is it because he doesn’t have ‘green fingers’ or the climate is to blame??

You guys remember the Waterfront City? The place took some 20 years to complete and at a staggering cost. A white elephant, this one?

My rating on Moo Hee Din: NOT DPM material. More fitting to be a taiko. The samsengs in Johor still treat him like demi god.

    Hi illuminati,
“Can one imagine what Mahathir would do if his No. 2 were to go against what he stands for?”

The recalcitrant mamak mohamad kutty would have by now given a good kick to Muhyiddin’s backside or would have forced him to kneel down in front of him and opened up his fly, if he is so keen in holding on to the number 2 post.

Others like Musa Hitam had declined to suck up to the mamak, but then you can never say about ingrates like Muhyiddin who stabbed Othman Saat, his mentor in the back.

Back stabbing has been his forte all along. First it was Othman. Then he did that to the useless Sleepy Head who could not even do a proper reform on the PDRM, Judiciary or the ACA. Now it looks as if he is sharpening the dagger for Najib’s back.

He might link up with the likes of Nazri, Rais Yatim and Hamidi to bring down Najib.

History has a way of repeating. Let’s wait and see.
