This is the “Democracy Tree” video for which DAP Perak State Assemblyman for Tebing Tinggi, Ong Boon Piaw was arrested by the police on Sunday, 29th March 2009 purportedly in violation of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for “manufacturing, circulating, distributing, displaying” a DVD without first getting a B certificate from the Film Censorship Board.
Boon Piaw, who is out on police bail, will know on April 13 what the authorities propose to do in the case.
In his speech at the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2008/Malaysian Media Nite 2009 yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak called for a “free, vibrant and informed media empowered to report without fear of consequence and holding governments and public official accountable”.
He said that this is the kind of media, with “world-class, fact-based reporting”, which he would like to see emerging “if we are truly to build a democracy that is responsive to the needs of all the people”.
If Najib wants to be taken seriously in his first policy pronouncements, then he must walk the talk and also embrace a “free, vibrant and informed” citizen journalism, like the “Democracy Tree” DVD.
He should stop the Attorney-General and the Police from harassing and persecuting Boon Piaw for the “Democracy Tree” democracy DVD and send a clear and unmistakable signal that there would be no prosecution and that the Film Censorship Act will be amended so that there would be no unreasonable or draconian restrictions to responsible citizen media/journalism like the “Democracy Tree” DVD.

PR democracy tree shown on DVD is offensive only to UmnoBN ,definitely not the rakyat. Umno/bn abused the law by ordering the police to arrest Boon Piaw. These power hunger fellows are so afraid to lose the by election, anything as small as this dvd clips of showing the rakyat demand of democracy and freedom, scared them like hell. Imagine, what would happen to these frighten power greedy unmo guys when they know or sense that they are going to be deliver to hell in the next general election. Oh yeah guys, how was it that the unshealthing of the kris by the ex-umno youth, broadcasted live in all TV channels was then not offensive ? No offence as it’s then benefit them. ” Wah ,like that ,mana boleh oh ,inni suma tak adil ” Ah Pek ” di malaysia, opposition dan rakyat cakup apa pun sensitive dan offensive, hanya orang umno apa dia cakup pun boleh, jadi jungan ‘naive’ “. This is the general feeling of the rakyat.Like I said before, just ignore them, let them carry on any offensive acts against the rakyat, the more the better,as it will heat the rakyat ill feeling stronger and faster towards umno/bn destruction . We can see the cracks in the umno/bn wall,it will crumble pretty soon by the peoples’power.

What offence has a tree like this committed to warrant its censorship? Is it an “obscene” tree, or “pokok bogel”?

To the ordinary citizen, there should be nothing offensive about this video as it depicts a struggle for democracy.
Only UMNO’s BN would find it offensive, not only because their man, Zambry, was depicted as a political pirate involved in the take-over of the Perak state government, but also because it shows the kind of abuse it had unleashed onto its political opponents in order to stay in power.
Naturally, PDRM would also find it offensive because it shows them acting as the minions of UMNO’s BN.
