Abdullah proven ACA not an independent creature and why top UMNO leaders need not fear

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has proven that he and top UMNO leaders have nothing to fear from the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) as it is not an independent creature but totally beholden to the wishes of the Prime Minister’s Department.

This is the conclusion to be drawn from the summary manner Abdullah dismissed the accusation that he and his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak had abused their power to hold onto the top two posts in the coming Umno polls.

He claimed that the Umno power-transition plan was decided by the party’s supreme council and announced to members.

He said: “It was not as if Najib and I quietly conspired. It was an important decision by the supreme council, and announced to members so that they would understand.”

Abdullah has missed the point altogether.

Abdullah and Najib cannot be exonerated or exculpated from the ACA report lodged against them last week by Umno Selangor veteran leader Datuk Mazlan Harun for abuse of power just because the UMNO leadership-transition plan had been endorsed by the Umno Supreme Council, or that it had been announced publicly rather than “quietly conspired”.

If the Umno leadership-transition plan constituted political corruption, unlawfully and unethically using government machineries to garner support among Umno members in a bid to sustain their positions in the coming party elections, then an independent ACA is duty-bound to act as the explanations given by the Prime Minister – that it had been endorsed by Umno Supreme Council and announced publicly – are utterly immaterial and irrelevant to the ACA report of abuse of power lodged by Mazlan.

But after the pronouncement by Abdullah yesterday that he is innocent of any form of political corruption, would anyone believe that the ACA would dare to do more than going through the perfunctory process of opening a file?

Who are dare to worry when they are ‘award’ with umbrella shield?
This is how the federal goverment can survive uptodate by doing thing solely up to their feeling but not for the people.

The question is can Pakatan Rakyat think a way to remove the umbrella now and do not require this when there are rules?

Independence? What independence? Not with the ACA, the PDRM, the Courts or any of the so-called “independent” bodies!

  5. #5 by Malaysian citizen on Wednesday, 13 August 2008 - 1:24 pm

If ACA is really an independent body with their own power to arrest the corrupt bunch, how come we never see any UMNO top post being put into jail.
An example was Muhd.Taib who was caught in Brisbane Air-port in 1996 with 2.4 million cash in his hand case. Not only that he can get away with corruption, he can even come back to UMNO now with top post.
ACA can open this case and check on him again if they are truthfully independent.

Look sleepy head, anwar’s alledgedly sodomy partner was a consenting adult. Yet the law says (subject to proof of course) they have commited a wrong (but strangely his partner was not charged with the same offence).

The law is the law. No amount of private arrangement can ever have the effect of excusing anyone from complying with the law.

X and Y had an agreement signed wherein they planned to commit robbery; and they in fact carried out the planned robbery. Hei they have an agreement bozos. They are not guilty.

Is that what pm is saying?

In all likelihood, the date for the (forced) departure of the PM will undoubtedly be brought forward from 2010 if umno loses heavily in Permatang Pauh. The “PM for all malaysians(!?)” will have no choice but to leave with his tail between his legs on 27th August, 2008 when warlords of his own party rise up in anger over their severe losses in the by-election

Badawi misses many points many times. I keep wondering why he says these things because those smart enough don’t buy it, those who are not smart enough, don’t need to be persuaded.

    So why say these nonsense?

Because he misses the point a lot. Our very own George Bush Jr…

AAB would have retained a good name if he made a graceful exit after Mar 8. Staying another 2y3m will only earn him a bad name in history as he keep making mistakes and keep doing bad things week by week. Whatever good things he had done prior to Mar 8 have been totally erased, and he is running into more negative zone day by day. History will not judge him to be a good PM, likehood he is the last one.

///PM AAB said: “It was not as if Najib and I quietly conspired. It was an important decision by the supreme council, and announced to members so that they would understand.”///

AAB seems to think that the supreme council can do what it wishes without regards to the law of the country. Even if the idea emerged during the meeting and the conclusion was subsequently arrived that, the decision would still be unfair to members who aspire to contest the presidency. But the fact remains the so-called transition plan was mooted by AAB, offered to Najib who had no choice on the matter, announced to the supreme council, and further disseminated to members. For AAB to have said that it was decided by the council shows that he himself had not the moral courage to own up his decision.

UMNO party constitution allows for election, albeit with the perverted quota pre-qualification. Candidates for the president and other top posts are nominated by members at the division meetings which were held at different times. That prevented the emergence of a new presidential candidate all at once, and the incumbent could victimize the members who broached a change in leadership. When the president joins force with his deputy, it sends a signal that other contenders would face the onslaught of the gang of two. Party election is now being turned into a gang war.

The announcement by the supreme council to members about the transition plan serves to tell them that the two positions are out of bound. While other UMNO members face restrictions in campaigning for party election it is an anomaly that the PM and his deputy are allowed to use the party machinery to manipulate the positions they desire.

PM AAB may be cleared by ACA, but one wonders if he would ever be cleared by his own conscience. Or was it on leave?

Sharizat lost her seat to an absolute novice. Thats how humiliating it was, so i’m not surprised if she has vengeance in her heart therefore ‘ jihad’ la

  34. #34 by mauriyaII on Wednesday, 13 August 2008 - 7:53 pm

Godfather, you are not really off the mark. Sharizat could have easily come from Pakistan, known the world over as the epi-centre of all terrorist and jihad activities.

Pakistan trains jihadis. The wannabe Sharizat jihadi is the sore loser in the 12 GE to a political unheard of novice. It so happens her nemesis happens to be the daughter of Anwar who has declared to derail the BN government, come September 16.

No wonder all the BN goons are shitting bricks at the very thought of their positions and power being taken away.

Why call for a jihad against another muslim? Usually jihad is reserved for the ummah to defend Islam unless Sharizat and her ilk think that they are more islamic than Anwar and he needs to be rehabilitated or worse still, excommunicated!

By the way Islam does not recognize excommunication, does it? It only prescribes stoning to death if I am not mistaken.

  35. #35 by Godfather on Wednesday, 13 August 2008 - 9:16 pm

Yes, I think the Indian newspaper also realises Shahrizat’s connections with Pakistan, and hence was more than happy to report the jihadi links in that country. The use of “jihad” is so extreme that Botak Hamid should give her a public caution.

They trick this susceptible people by being ‘religious’ suddenly, just during this by-elections time, They are very fond of doing this.

  38. #38 by Malaysian Mummy on Thursday, 14 August 2008 - 1:14 am

A check in the Malay dictionary for “ACA” means “Aku Cari Angin” is a good slogan indeed to refer to ACA because our Anti Corruption Agency of Malaysia had never been independent in the PAST and is not independent at PRESENT and will not be independent in the FUTURE so long as Corrupt leaders hold power.

All corrupt cases were swept under the carpets of ACA until the wind blowed open the carpets to let the corrupted dust stir up again in money politics next sandiwara for the corrupt politicians to fight out for power and position in BE END government.

ACA wishes to follow ICAC in HK for full independence in carrying out their duties without FEAR and FAVOUR unless Pakatan Rakyat is able to sack UMNO and BE END cronies to end their greeds, arrogants and selfsh attitudes. Otherwise, ACA remained “AKU CINTA ANDA” asalkan ada “MONEY” – MALAYSIA BOLEH !

The root of the problem is a government that has been condoning racial injustices for a long time. This is why we have a big problem in modern malaysia.

The only solution to the problem, is to dissolve UMNO and reform the government. The jucidiary and police system is a joke during the tenure of TDM. Now at least there is slight transparency. Anyhow long way to go before we become a meritocratic nation or is it wishful thinking?

It all depends on the majority race, how they want to play it, at the moment they are being very difficult, if only they can see prospectively and allow change to take place and not throw a uncivilised mockery when civilised people have an open forum.

    Dear frens,
    This is an forwarded messages.

    [ Glorina @ agnes ]

WARNING : DON’T OFFER DUIT KOPI FROM NOW ON!

    Dear Friends

If you have ever paid or are thin kin g of paying ‘duit kopi’ when stopped for traffic or other offences, DON’T EVER think of doing this again.

The traffic department (JPJ) has recently started a campaign to get rid of corruption. Every officer on duty will be rewarded with RM100.00 if they report each case of bribery to the department.

This is how they do (trick you into) it. They will note down the details of your IC/MyKad, and ask you how you want to settle (‘Macam mana nak selesai?’)

If you indicate yes or even offer to give them any money, they will report the incident by rejecting your ‘Kopi Money’ and get the RM100.00 instead as
an incentive for their integrity and ‘Honest’ publicity.

This means that you will end up having a summon issued to you and pe rhaps a charge for bribery.

SO DON’T PAY DUIT KOPI AGAIN, especially if you hope to go free with a lesser amount of money compared to the fine. Even if you want to pay over
RM200, the JPJ Officers would rather have a ‘good’ name than to take your kopi money..

Just beware of their trick because the cops are now accumulating ‘cookies’ points for their promotion and pay increment – with your help of course.

They should have done this to stop corruption long time ago… but anyway it’s better late than never, right?

SPREAD THIS MESSAGE TO EDUCATE OTHERS ON THIS NEW ANTI-RASUAH POLICY!
