Tunku Aziz’s misplaced anger with the DAP

DEC 23 ― There was a time when Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim was at the forefront of righting the wrongs of Malaysia, seeking for a well-governed and transparent nation.

To further his cause, he joined the DAP in 2008. But he left earlier this year and has since been a thorn to the party.

One must ask why this volte-face? Especially with Tunku Aziz’s latest attack that DAP members were barred from accepting state awards from Malay rulers.

Why is the once-respected man now dancing to Umno’s tune and its barrage of attacks against the DAP? Why is he angry with the DAP?

DAP chief Karpal Singh has rejected Tunku Aziz’s allegations by saying the DAP’s policy has been consistent in rejecting state honours except for those issued for bravery.

He said DAP members may accept awards after they have retired from active politics, citing as examples the late Chian Heng Kai, a former Bukit Mertajam MP; former Batu Lanchang assemblyman the late Tan Loo Jit; and former Berapit state lawmaker Wong Hang Yoke who were conferred state honours carrying the title “Datuk”.

What is Tunku Aziz trying to do, by making his former party look bad among the Malays? Did he expect an easy ride in politics but unable to do so, switch sides and behave like sour grapes?

After all, according to The Malaysian Insider, Tunku Aziz is a prominent corporate figure and activist who helped found the Malaysian chapter of global graft watchdog, Transparency International.

So why all this acrimony and the need to make DAP look bad among the Malays? Does he think he has influence among the Malays and can use it to benefit Umno.

I hope not. We Malays must see Tunku Aziz for what he is. A bitter man who couldn’t take criticisms and is now biting his old party back with venom and vitriol. And willing to do it for anyone else opposed to the DAP.

He was an icon but as we know now, has clay feet.

Tunku Aziz talks very well. The only problem is the walk not able to caught up with the talk.

品格个is attitude in Chinese, it has 2 elements, one element reflect how he carries himself, talks, deal with people, 人品. The other reflect the value he carried, it determines ones move, 人格.

人品 bad but 人格 good still consider good man. However good one’s 人品, but evils in his 人格, he is consider a bad guy.

I think he yearns for attention of some sort …that he is not getting in his private life.

    Well, well, well.
Don’t we know that in this country, many so-called “straight” men and women have been “turned”.
The Devils’ Party, with the vast resources of the country, can make the straight, crooked!
Especially, when there is already such a tendency in that person!!!
    So, hardly surprising!!!

  6. #6 by tuahpekkong on Monday, 24 December 2012 - 4:25 pm

I think he probably didn’t get what he expected. Surprised that he changed his stand so fast.

How on earth can an ‘iconic’ figure like Tunku Aziz harped on such one long well known stand of DAP, so callously. Because of the great serious implication of his allegation, it reflected his bad intention and his true-self finally. (unless, his thinking has gone awry – why, not an issue here). Foremost, DAP all this while has been very careful and take great pain to reaffirm it’s stand of upholding and respecting the Nation’s Constitution fully. THIS ITSELF ALREADY PROVE THAT DAP EMBRACES THE MONARCHY SYSTEM ! Is just that each time, some other political adversaries are making it an issue (by making allegation) for political mileage. It had already been pointed out countless times that UMNO/bn were the real culprit, espicially Madtir.
To think of it personalities like Nelson Mandela, Ang Sung Suki, THE GREAT MOTHER TERESA,,,,,,,attained iconic status and no one bestowed on them and accept it as a matter of fact. The GREAT NELSON MANDELA ( may he live life fullest till his last day ) till to this very day, no one has an iota of doubt of his living legacy to the world. These are such so call iconic figures. Do we have such an icon in Malaysia ? Now, not an icon by Malaysian standard – one that of NELSON MANDELA attained iconic status ie. not bestowed by ‘us’ alone.

    What a NUT he is.

  15. #15 by Sallang on Tuesday, 25 December 2012 - 8:50 am

He joined the DAP in 2008, immediately after tsunami.
He was “planted” there to understand how Pakatan, esp. DAP’s strategy works.
Now that election is near,he must be pulled out, lest he have to do campaigning against his master.

A real prominent corporate figure will not allow his position to be made use of. At his age, he can retire happily with his grand children. Why bring shame to himself and family at the end of his golden years?
‘Biar putih tulang, jangan putih mata’. Cheh!

he was never very influential in the first place. If he was, then TI would have helped driven BN policies and governance to the right path.

being an outsider, I believe that he could be upset by certain internal politicking – hell, in any human organisation, be it a political party, a commercial organisation or even a school chess club there is politics.

if he is so very upset and as a result, whether being rewarded or not rewarded by DAP’s political opponents, to the extend of launching petty and weak attacks on DAP shows 2 salient points:

    1) man with big reputation focusing on small issues

    2) there is no real big issue with DAP, unlike UMNO land grab in Selangor, murderous and violent streak that causes blood shed like May 13, Teoh Beng Hock, the latest attacks on ANAK etc

TA is a man of no principle. His words and action after leaving DAP has incurred the wrath of many people. His presence in public will be cast with spiteful looks from others.

why you people quite on Nga/Ngeh /Ngoh and Tgna Agro land issues

  19. #19 by waterfrontcoolie on Tuesday, 25 December 2012 - 11:16 pm

You can hardly blame him for his wavering behaviour having reached the pinnacle of his career hoping that his reputation could carry him up the ladder in a political arena. It is also obvious that DAP could not provide him the kind of ‘good publicity’ from the printed media. With BN in such desperate situation and knowing how BN can change ordinary people into Frog Princes, he took his chances! Had the failure to be the CEO of Sime Darby initially affected his thinking that he jumped into DAP? Only he himself knew the truth. Shall we just leave him to sell his greatness to the local Printed Toilet papers?
