The Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, has set a golden standard of exemplary conduct for rulers and political leaders with moderation, economy and the people’s welfare as the top considerations.
Raja Nazrin has already carved a special place in the hearts of Malaysians with his scholarship and enlightened concerns for the people and nation as testified by his keynote address last month on “Prospects and Challenges for Nation Building” on the seven steps towards successful nation-building, in particular the first principle — “Malaysians of all races, religions and geographic locations need to believe beyond a shadow of doubt that they have a place under the Malaysian sun”.
The Raja Muda of Perak has now won the love and admiration not only of the people of Perak but of all Malaysians with his exemplary modesty and rectitude — wanting only a simple royal wedding with Zara Salim Davidson and declining to accept state-allocated funds.
His advice to the Perak state government to spend the money for development projects to meet the needs of the people as well as to companies and individuals not to compete to buy advertisement space in newspapers on the occasion of his wedding but to channel the funds for charity, especially donating to places of worship, welfare bodies, old folk homes, orphanages and schools in Perak, demonstrates the sincerity and depth of the Raja Muda’s devotion and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Raja Nazrin’s commendable example should remind Malaysians of a similar advice given by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi when he first became Prime Minister in November 2003, telling government departments and agencies to be simple and modest and to slash elaborate ceremonies and lavish functions, especially when a Minister, the Prime Minister or the Rulers are present.
However such advice to reduce ceremony and extravagance had been observed largely in the breach in the past 40 months, and Raja Nazrin’s “walk-the-talk” example should be an inspiration to all government departments and agencies to start paying heed to the Prime Minister’s advice as far back as November 2003.
Having won the hearts of Malaysians all over the country and not just in Perak state, Raja Nazrin and Zara’s wedding will be an occasion for joy and pride to all Malaysians in the country and not just confined to Perak state.

BN Coalition parties will be definitely upset with RN’s decision. The pipelines have been layed and constructed to directly to many ‘interested’ parties and now, no water flows …. AIYO !!! MISSED LAH ..
As for RN, it’s a rather good move to finally settle down for your own future as ruler for Perak. Let those memories be bygone and don’t become like PC/LD episodes will do just nice for your status.

His Father is also THE BEST! Historically, the best looking Agong and most well-mannered are from the Royalty of Perak. They really gives us the sense of pride!
However, the developement of the State of Perak, probably the slowest of all the states in Peninsular Malaysia. Soon one day, the Sultan would put his footdown and voice out his royal concern.
Soon many young Sultans and future Agongs would try to win the hearts of the people by showing examples and discipline the unruly behaviour of the politicians, for all the best of the nation!
Have a GREAT and FABULOUS WEDDING, your royal highness! May your happiness last a life time for all to witness.
From the bottom of my honest heart!

A simple gesture but it did a world of good to redeem this country’s pride in more ways than one.
After all the shame that has been brought to this country by the blatant corruptions, an ACA DG that needs to be investigated for corruption despite those who are walking in the corridors knowing of his misdeeds for years, forcibly tearing apart families and terrorising foreign tourist all in the name of Islam, brand new Govt buildings falling apart, blowing up foreigners with C4 when they seem like a threat, international “Oil for Food” scandals as yet unexplained, Sabah and Sarawak raped by carpet baggers like in the Wild Wild West, the shameful list of this country’s misdeeds is endless. So this simple act by Raja Nazrin is like a breadth of fresh air.
May you and your loved one have a long happy married life.

I still think the State government should provide a small, modest sum for the wedding. After all, Nazrin is the Raja Muda.
But as the groom requested it, the money that would have been allocated for the wedding, should now and must now be spent as Nazrin suggested. The MB must be held accountable and ensure it.

The current royal family of Perak sets standards for royalties to emulate, not just locally but internationally. I have never read the existence of such a perfect gentleman prince.
HRH Raja Nazrin and to his royal bride,
Inviting and giving a reception to the less fortunate is a noble act. You are really going to touch their hearts with your kindness and make them really happy, these are simple people but they blessings will be most sincere.
Wishing both of you all the best, ALWAYS AND IN ALL WAYS.

The commoners datuk k and siti nurhaliza should had followed the shining example set by HRH Raja Nazrin and donated the millions lavished on their wedding to charity.

Now all the shameless and spineless UMNO monkeys will be eying on the spare allocation. They will somehow find a “use” for it for the Royal Wedding. Leave it to the Perak MB. I know Md Toyo will be drooling all over.

As I am from Ipoh, I am proud to have someone like Raja Nazrin as a ruler and I wish the wedding couple a long and happy marriage.
To me someone of such a high calibre should be in a more powerful position such as the Prime Minister of the country where he will achieve the maximum good for the nation and so I humbly suggest that Raja Nazrin should ponder giving up his status and get into politics to lead a new multi-racial party free from all the corrupt webs of public administration.

Today these functions are even more elaborate than before. When the PM attends a function or visit a place can you imagine how many personnel are involved and how much of the taxpayers money are spent?Flowers, unnessary decorations(temporary of course) bands, kompang and silat groups, lion dance, cultural dances.Dont the people realise that the PM has had enough of our cultural shows?Local authorities personnel have to prepare for his visit 1 to 2 months before his official visits.Rehearsals of movements, police involvement etc etc etc.Sometimes he may visit more than 3 places in a day.Hundreds of government servants will also take the opportunity to “Lepak” when the PM comes around.Millions of Ringgit can be saved for other more worthy causes.Unless of course the PM enjoys all these VVVIP’s treatment.
Otherwise an immediate stop order is required from the PM.Only the head of departments, and the people involved directly should attend to him.For the other so called “VVIPs”, nothing should be spent on them. For private companies’ functions we dont bother how much they spend. As long it is not the taxpayers money.
THANK YOU Raja Nazrin for leading the way.

Hmmm … maybe there is some merit in having 9 sultans after all. At least there’s a chance that 1 out of 9 may not be the taxpayers burden, but instead _is_ and could be a good king.
Not that it matter so much that we’ve a good sultan. Doesn’t really affect the dude on the street.

As a Chinese Malaysian and a non-Perakian, I would also like to express my pride for the way Raja Nazrin carried himself in the preparation of forthcoming wedding. His action was like a beacon of light in today’s BN’s political world of corruption, murder and what have you.
May you be blessed with many many years of a blissful marriage.
#16 by Jong on Monday, 14 May 2007 - 10:45 pm
Raja Nazrin Shah has won the hearts of all Malaysians and is truly Perak’s pride.
Hope his exemplary modesty and rectitude – wanting only a simple royal wedding, declining assistance of state-allocated funds, has pricked the conscience of those ‘royal leeches’ and those commoners who show off their larvish weddings, grander than those fit for kings and queens!

LOL. Totally agree bro.
God Bless HRH RN and his bride. All the best to them.
Glad to see we still have good people in this country.HRH RN is one, the Sultan of Selangor is another. Funny it is the royalty like them are actually concerned about the people and not those whom we elected.I do hope more of our royalty will be like them and the Thai King as our politicians cannot be trusted to do what is right for the people.
Pak Lah and UMNO please take note, Kesetiaan kepada raja dan negara…not PM dan UMNO!!! ;)

Truely a fine and magnanimous example of a great leader. it makes me feel proud for once that i am a Malaysian hearing this truly honest gesture from a Royal. I sincerely wish this would be a cue for others to follow, especially AAB’a cabinet. i’ll wait to hear if this is forthcoming from anyone in the cabinet, i certainly await if there is any.
May your highness always be blessed in your future endeavours, i am really proud of you, a marvellous benchmark for others to emulate.

Can we make Raja Nazrin the next PM?
#20 by goldenscreen on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 1:32 am
Yes, Raja Nazrin would make a fine ruler. I just wished that he would enter into politics, he will definitely garner a lot of support especially from non-bumis. We must support the new generation of royals who are fair and just (Perak and Selangor).
Raja Azlan Shah is a fine ruler too. Does anybody still remember the case of the current Sultan of Johor where he was sentenced to death by Raja Azlan Shah? Read it here: http://malaysian-rumors.blogspot.com/2007/05/king-death-sentence.html
Maybe the RAHMAN prophecy will be fufilled after all
R – Tunku Abdul Raham
A – Abdul Razak
H – Hussein Onn
M – Mahathir
A – Abdullah Badawi
N – Najib?? NO!! Nazrin!!
#21 by good coolie on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 8:18 am
To Kurakura, Hj Angus, and the RAHMAN seer, who would desire Raja Nazrin to be Prime Minister, let me say that you would have to find principled men at every level of his party to elect him, and after that, an honest and dedicated cabinet to support him.
Can you find 10 good men to support him?
#22 by Jimm on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 9:11 am
Well, I really interested on the RAHMAN prophecy as that could be an agreement between all coalition parties to allow only Malay to be PM, after that there will be an open Malaysian PM.
AI did not fit in the 2nd A because he tried to rush things up. AAB benefitted because of his initial. ( Next time, we have to chose a right name to be counted ).
Initial N is the last for the record. A very interesting alphabet to induced internal competition among the UMNO packs.
With the recent book from Kua about the May 13, NTR must have been taken a backlashed about his father’s group plots. I believe several quarters in UMNO will used this ‘discoveries’ to demand favors from NTR, should he really interested on that chair. Guess NTR will be another prefect ‘puppet’ too as PM.
#23 by Jimm on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 9:15 am
Last few years, I habe been observing NA and his movements in UMNO packs. This guy is a very interesting guy and have ‘matured’ in political grounds. He also very ‘famous’ among the younger packs and very well accepted by the ‘TOP’ brass of the country.
This guy can be the black horse and (somehow) I have a feelings that he will tipped NTR at the home run and cross the line in a surprising manner.
#24 by dumeort on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 9:24 am
Yes, I agree totally. I’m a perakian and proud to have Raja Nazrin in the state. He’s not a person who really give statement who just wanna people praise him. He is really a person who don’t get poison from UMNO easily. Tabik!
#25 by Jimm on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 - 9:26 am
Everyone have their own weaknesses for others to exploit. Our ruler are also human. Everything just fall in place prefectly for BN government during SI’s terms as KING. So many acts and policies were drafted and approved. It’s all about timing and those smart guys have enough knowledge and patience to work through all given opportunities during that period.

DaiperHead,
You want to turn Malaysia into a republic – and do away with the Malay sultans? That is a seditious remark and the blogger could be prosecuted for allowing remarks like that to be made.

It’s all about accountability and it is a logical thing for Nazrin to do what he’s done. It’s commendable but I wont praise him.
A lot of bad deeds by the politicians and head of state are so common that it becomes a norm and a status quo, that should not even be tolerated. Malaysians are so exhilarated with a hint of kindness from the very top that exploits them.
People on top should have the ability and conscience to bring about some change for the betterment of the general public. Nazrin’s little example might be embarassing to some but Malaysian politicians and the head of state are shameless bunch of people.
Some spelt hope… but where? How? There is no hope when discrimination amongst its own citizenry is not abolished. I pity the privilleged son of the land- with or without help, they will not be able to locate their own backbone to stand on their own feet. I have gone through the system, been to different places, seen so many incidences and experienced it myself… wherever they are, they are all the same- spoilt and corrupt to the core.
