“When the new coalition under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reached 112 seats, we couldn’t help it. Both of us cried.”

This was said by a foreigner, former Swiss banker Xavier Justo when describing in an interview with Star what he and his wife, Laura, felt faraway in Switzerland on the historic night of the 14th Malaysian General Election on May 9, 2018.

The Swiss couple was not the only ones who cried that night.

Many Malaysians, inside and outside the country, cried that night – not out of anger, despair and hopelessness but because of disbelief, relief and hope that there is now a chance to save Malaysia.

These were the true patriots of Malaysia!

May be it is time to ask former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak whether and when he had cried for Malaysia.

Did he cry when Malaysia suffered the infamy and ignominy of being regarded worldwide as a global klepocracy instead of being a “beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”?

Did he cry when the Prime Minister of Malaysia was openly accused of being an kleptocrat and an a thief, both inside Malaysia and worldwide, with the Prime Minister afraid to take any action to redeem not only his honour and integrity, but that of the country?

Did he cry when the Prime Minister of Malaysia was accused of having a hand in the heinous murder of Mongolian model Altantunya Shaariibuu who was murdered in Shah Alam and her remains blown to bits by C4 explosives 12 years ago, and he pretended not to hear or know of these charges and refused to use his powers as Prime Minister for the last nine years to order a full investigation to clear doubts and mysteries about the Altantunya murder?

Yet Najib could issue statements virtually every day after he was toppled from power on May 9, 2018, with his latest Facebook posting yesterday calling on the Pakatan Harapan government to stop finding fault with him and the past administration and to focus instead on saving the economy!

Is Najib really living in a world of hallucination and unaware that what the Pakatan Harapan government had embarked on in the past six months had been to Save Malaysia and to Save the Malaysian economy, which had been gravely damaged by Najib’s kleptocracy?

The Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad had asked Najib to help the country pay its debts by revealing how to bring out the money he is hiding as a result of the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal – which will be Najib’s contribution to Save Malaysia and Save the Malaysian economy.

I fully agree with Mahathir that this is what Najib should be doing instead of trying to divert attention from his problems.

It is significant that the newly-appointed Barisan Nasional Secretary-General Datuk Seri Abdul Nazri Aziz seems to be in agreement with Mahathir on this issue.

Nazri said that the probe against, and prosecutions of Umno/BN leaders and several other individuals are the government’s efforts to recover funds misappropriated from 1MDB.

In fact, Najib himself in his disastrous Al Jazeera interview, had as good as acknowledged the problem of the 1MDB “kleptocracy at its worst” scandal, when he conceded for the first time in nine years that the international 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal was not a fake or figment of imagination concocted by his political enemies to topple him, but a serious scandal whose perpetrators must be brought to justice.

Najib said that 1MDB investigators should not stop at Jho Low, but should probe others who were allegedly involved in stealing from 1Malaysian Development Bhd.

Saying all the culprits must be investigated to find out where the money had gone, Najib said:

“Fine… let them do their work but don’t just stop at Jho Low. Get others who are involved as well because there are other international figures who probably are involved. They must also be investigated.

“We want to know where the money flowed to. And who really benefited from the whole 1MDB issue. I would like to know, too”.

When will Najib volunteer to name these “other international figures” involved in the 1MDB scandal?

While talking to Malaysians in Christchurch on Sept. 24, I posed the intriguing question whether out of the two, Najib and financial fugitive Jho Low, who will be the first to betray the other in the 1MDB “worst case of kleptocracy”!

Former Council of Eminent Persons chairperson Tun Daim Zainuddin revealed that Jho Low had contacted him last week to seek immunity in exchange for finding assets linked to the 1MDB scandal.

But he was unable to pass Daim’s test which, in Daim’s words: “I tested him. I said I wanted two things. Give me names, and since you say you have power, ask them to return to Malaysia.”

But Jho Low was unable to deliver both tests.

Would former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein be able to succeed to bring Jho Low back to the country when even Daim and Najib had failed?
