TELUK INTAN Twenty-seven-year-old lawyer and UiTM graduate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud was today unveiled as DAP’s candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced the decision at the DAP by-election operations centre in Bandar Baru Teluk Intan today, saying the decision was made as proof of DAP’s ethnic diversity as a party.

In her speech, Dyana, who has served as DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary for the past year, spoke about breaking racial and religious barriers, and finding the perfect formula for a Malaysian “teh tarik, which is loved by all.”

She explained all Malaysians love teh tarik regardless of race or religion and similarly, Malaysians need to find a common identity that would appeal as much across the board as the tea drink does.

At a press conference later, Dyana said she is unfazed by the rounds of attempts to tarnish her reputation that has already begun among some bloggers.

“They thought since I am a woman, I will quit politics (after the attacks).

“But sorry, I am here to stay,” said Dyana, who had fake pictures of her in a bikini published in some blogs even before today’s announcement.

During the press conference, there was a mad scramble by press photographers to take shoots of the spunky contestant.

Dyana joined DAP in mid-2011 and hails from a family of Umno supporters.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua will serve as the DAP’s election director for the by-election.

She is not just a DAP candidate per se. She is a Pakatan hopeful with true support from all races.
Unlike in BN, Gerakan is always trying to keep MCA at arm’s length or vice versa as the two are strange bed partners waiting to go after each other’s throat. The ill intention of MCA to swap its unwanted Bukit Glugor with Teluk Intan is yet another illustration of their political hypocrisy. I am surprised they call themselves friends or mates.
The voters of P76 will send Dyana to Parliament with a convincing majority to tell UMNO that Malaysians are more matured now and they are more united under Pakatan. BN is just living in borrowed times.

Dyana represents the hopes and aspirations of the future generation of Malaysians which go beyond the boundaries of race. The outcome of this election will go to decide if there is a major break through in Malaysian politics where a candidate chosen is based on his or her credentials and not on age, sex, race or religion.

I believe the voters in Teluk Intan shall lead the way by breaking this racial barrier and go down in history for taking a paradigm shift to a new era of politics based on ideas, opinions, policies, and principles within the next decade of nation building. They have done it in the 1997 by-election. They can do it again!

we shall see her as Malaysian first who aspire to work for betterment of this country. The urban people has become more matured in recent years and aware of surrounding issues. Put aside those negative comments by Perkasa and disgrace Isma, etc….i believe voters will vote what is best for their constituent and country.
