Chinese New Year

by Allan CF Goh

When the New Year eve comes to call,
When the Old Year has ended all,
Bringing home those close and dear,
It’s that joyful time called New Year.

When the first dawn of Spring appears,
May all our problems disappear,
Bringing home a blessed reunion,
For a family communion.

The swallows are back in their place,
The land has returned to its grace,
Bringing home cherished hope that looms,
Spring has brought forth the fresh new blooms.

The dawn, the morn of the New Year,
Must be made auspiciously clear,
Bringing home the dreams that come true,
And our wishes to fruition, too.

The year will spring good beginnings,
And banish all bad happenings,
Bringing home to us real, good health,
Together with abundant wealth.
