Today’s emergency UMNO Supreme Council meeting, second in a week, exposes Umno in a white-heat crisis to Malaysians.
There were all sorts of rumours last week, including the quite “unbelievable” one (which I mentioned in my blog) that Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had been given up to Sept. 26 to step down as Prime Minister – although nobody was able to explain why Sept. 26 as the deadline for at least a clear-cut announcement of his retirement intention rather than the more believable Oct. 9.
But as they say, there is no smoke without fire! This explains the emergency Umno Supreme Council meeting today.
The full effects of the political tsunami of the March 8 general election, which dealt a fatal blow to Umno political hegemony, destroyed the hitherto unchallenged Barisan Nasional mould of race and money politics, and gave heart to Malaysians that there is hope after all for Malaysia to fulfill her great potential and promise of human, intellectual and natural resources, end and reverse the costly brain-drain, taking her rightful place in the global community – have still to be played out.
These are the pains, trials and tribulations of Malaysia becoming a more normal country after 51 years of nationhood so that Malaysia can truly join the ranks of the fully-developed nations.
But is the Umno Supreme Council emergency meeting today just for the sake of Abdullah and the UMNO warlords or is it going to grapple with the weighty national issues for the sake of returning Malaysia to her promise and potential as a great nation?

Malaysia not only needed to change the PM we need to get rid of BN.What the hell is MCA MIC Gerakan doing in BN.These are all spineless bedridden component parties of BN which has no agenda at all. They bark when told to do so by UMNO.I can’t imagine how the picture of Dr Koh’s picture being torn and stepped on and yet they have the cheek to say oh its OK.A ‘step in the right direction’.What a joke.

FDI outflow is exceeding inflow. Economy is going south.
Doing away examination based assessment will give rise to more red tape. Teacher gives more marks for non-performance students just to boost the teacher’s own performance. The quality of the student is going south.
Teaching Maths and Science in Bahasa for the taxpayer’s children but the minsiter who is getting salary from taxpayer is sending their children to private school and international school; and oversea for learning in English. Even Chinese from China is coming over to Malaysia for learing English. The standard of English is going south. At the end of the day, they telling the rakyat that since your standard of English is so poor and how to deal with the diplomat then you rakyat better go and catch fish and let their children be the minister because their chidren know ENGLISH.

rahmanwang, BN remains the only viable set-up to steer Malaysia through the current crisis. If they fail to rehabilitate their policies and leadership, then they do not deserve to govern anymore, but I believe December will be a milestone as to the direction BN are going to take.
Race-relations are being tested since March and both BN and Pakatan have been playing the race card to their own agenda. AAB is clearly is a lost cause, but you should “not throw out the baby with the bathwater” as the saying goes.
p.s. I hear that Teresa Kok was found to be lying on her remark that the food served t her while in detention was “almost like dog food”. She knew very well what she ate and if she considers fast food chicken to be dog food, maybe as an MP, she should lobby for all fast food outles to be closed down. This sudden Umno emergency meeting is not unexpected. Don’t we all know this Umno ship is sinking fast, already dreaded with subterranean termites?! It’s hopelessly beyond repair.
Today’s emergency meeting doesn’t look good – it’s
rotten and reek of conspiracy brewing in their divided camp! So this ‘smart’ (to quote Karim Raslan), sly and conniving Najib cancelled his US trip just in case he gets pushed off the succession line? :D
Anything can happen and anything is possible especially when Umno is imploding with its lifespan precariously hanging on a string.

Beware the hidden hand of Mamakthir. He is trying to oust Abdullah so that the racist policies he instituted over 20 years ago will remain intact. Badawi must go, but it will be a sad day if the hidden hand of the mamak dictates who the new leadership will be.

UMNO is nothing but a platform to gain power, positions and unthinkable wealth for people who played their cards right.
Cleverly disguising itself as a party that champions for the rights/struggle for a particular ethnic group, they have managed to hoodwink the public for far too long. In the process, these people have enriched themselves to hilt, milking the country’s resources dry.
What Supreme Council meeting? They are just there to share the spoils, just to make sure their own share is not sidelined/marginalised. So it is imperative to choose someone who can safeguard their power and position and the passport to riches.
To them ..who cares about the country and the rakyat? It ‘s always me.my family..my cronies.

The core of the problem is that Umno is so ossified that the top 2 leaders cannot bear any challenge to their positions and so must propose all sorts of stupid power transition plan.
A leader should be confident of defending his position. If he cannot get the required support, he should GO! Simple as that. But what we have is 2 power hungry goons clinging to their positions and not wanting others to challenge them, hiding behind excuses like not wanting to break up Umno.
How can democratic contests for party positions break up the party? Did the Presidential nomination contest in US break up their parties?
Instead of all the stupid transition plans, contests for the top 2 posts in Umno should be open to all who can get the required nominations. Problem solved.
Badawi himself should contest for the President’s post just like any other. What is this fear of humiliation of not getting enough nominations? If you have this fear then just step down without a fight and let others contest for it.

Is Najix playing both sides? He has to satisfy abdullah on one end, but he also wants power on the other end. so he has been swinging back and forth.
as mahathir wrote, whenever other people pressed abdullah, it ended up with the private discussion between najix and abdullah. then the answer was always najix would support the original transition plan. i started to guess if in the private meetings, abdullah always threatened najix that he will expose the secret of najix, about the murdering of mongolian lady, as exposed by raja petra, shall najix not supporting his original plan. then najix became a tame animal and abdullah always stays on.

Being the most unpopular PM of Malaysia, Abdullah should have relinquished his post long ago. I see no reason why he fights to stay on; after all, he is not going to carry out reforms and Zaid Ibrahim has said UMNO has no intention to reform.
UMNO, the party which soon goes down in history, pays a great price by putting party interests above that of the nation. Though the message of tsunami March 8 was clear – people want reforms – yet UNMO willfully turned a deaf ear to the message.
Abdullah’s continued craze for power to fulfill his personal agendas will leave a bad taste with the rakyat and hasten the demise of the political dinosaur.
#27 by Jeffrey on Friday, 26 September 2008 - 1:18 pm
It is understood lah that if party elections were postponed to March next year it means the power brokers and warlords are indirectly giving the premier 6 months face saving period with which to voluntarily step down or face challenge for the President’s post.
The pressure to thwart the PM’s retirement plan in 2010 is ostensibly argued on basis to preempt Anwar from taking over the government with the help of crossovers due to the PM’s weak leadership.
It is very convenient to blame the PM for all ills of UMNO. They are in a state of denial.
The Opposition’s gains on March 8th GE and August 26th (Permatang Pauh by election) – and the ever present threat of takeover by cross overs – are entirely attributable to the weak leadership of the premier, as TDM is proned to argue, but the increasing disaffection and alienation on rakyat’s part with the Mahathirism of UMNO/BN’s policies and mis- governance.
They are certainly not pressuring PM to step down earlier to “grapple with the weighty national issues for the sake of returning Malaysia to her promise and potential as a great nation!”
It is attributable more to the opportunity for each power broker to move one rung up the ladder of the existing heirarchy earlier – so what is new?
The earlier exit of the PM is unlikely to herald a new dawn in Malaysia politics but more likely a resurrection of the dark age of Mahathirism kept alive and kicking by greater repression to quell opposition and threat against it .
It will not signal the end of the country’s problems but the beginning thereof.
I hope to the PM will not just give in. What for 6 months of borrowed time imposed by ingrates? The fact that it is imposed against one’s volition is humiliating.
He should contest the President’s post if challenged.
If he calculates that he is likely lose then he should teach ingrates a lesson by resigning himself and the entire cabinet and requesting the Yang di Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament to pave the way for a fresh 13th Malaysian General Election, a move that Pakatan Rakyat can support.

This UMNO supreme Council meeting, is purely a face saving exercise for Abdullah’s exit and giving Najib more time to consolidate his position to take over the PM job. UMNO is now, a kingdom within a kingdom, where the leaders determine among themselves who will lead. Democracy is dead and the nation say is fully ignored.
Unfortunately, the nation suffers, place with the continuation of incompetent aspiring leaders.

UMNO spend more time talking about themselves…their future..their individual likes and dislikes…all about UMNO.
No where in the world…except idiots from Malaysia..keep voting in such a sickening government leaders.
The only logical answer to that..is money power and UMNO keep taking our money..to feed his members…to keep voting for them.
If that is not true…then Malaysian voters are either… real idiots..or have no balls..or trully selfish people.
Then….if those three reasons are true….then majority Malaysians…have weak minds and low IQ.

On national level AAB will not be able to do anything to change the crazy state the country is in. So, whether he goes before October 9 2008 or March 7 2009 will mean nothing to the country.
Even if the UMNO GA is postponed to March next year, Divisional meetings will begin from 9 October. AAB can choose to be another Ghafar Baba when he loses the right to defend his position by 8 November, or he might still have his name on the ballot for UMNO Presidential election. If he loses the right to defend, then he will have to leave, or he becomes Tunku after May 13, until he gives up his chair. If AAB gets the required nomination qualification but less than what Najib has, he might still be able to stay on till March 2009, by which time he will better declare that he declines the nomination.
So by postponing the UMNO assembly, he had only less than half a chance to stay on for another 3 months which he would be as powerless as Tunku. Why not stick to December date?
AAB’s proposal of a transition plan is a cause of his downfall. His supporters have now a deadline by which to find a new patron. The snowballing effect has made his supporters in the supreme council choose to safeguard their own future than to fight for a shared destiny. Having fixed 2010 as the end of his career and now saying that he might even leave early, his supporters are now striving to cut loss rather than to fight to gain.
When Najib said that the transition plan depends on the grassroots’ support, he meant that he is not bound by it. When AAB is given the contract like what the non–Malays got it from UMNO, such as the so-called social contract, he as Malay has the right to tear his contract with another Malay Najib. He should now announce that he will depend on grassroots’ support for his position, and to stay on for possible next party election in another three years. He should also open up the party election to allow for all those who obtain two nominations to contest. In that manner, he can stay as a full PM until December.
AAB’s current problem was caused by Muhyiddin’s echoing TDM’s statement about the transition plan, and Najib’s grassroots opinion. He should show his disagreement by throwing open the future of UMNO, and let there be open competition. He should not allow his name to describe the fact that one cannot even get the right to defend his post. There is a saying that tiger leaves his skin, and man his name. But not when it is in the above context.
#40 by newday on Friday, 26 September 2008 - 2:14 pm
Of course the emergency meeting is for the sake of PM Abdullah Badawi ! When, from the time of, I guess Dr. Mahathir, has UMNO given the country a thought ? I always said that with the kind of natural resources Malaysia had and still has and with the sound economy and financial standing that Malaysians, but more so the non-Malays, helped to build, we could have been the Monaco of SE Asia. Instead we are looking at being a net exporter of maid services soon with local university graduates from local universities that churn out graduates who cannot even write or utter a sentence in English. It is not totally out of range to say that most non-Malay Malaysians have never felt so sad and disappointed at how UMNO has mismanaged this country to the current situation where Malaysia is almost irrelevent to the governments of many countries, especially the developed ones. What is sustaining Malaysia now is the residual wealth and whatever oil and timber that are left and I suppose the UMNO guys think that if those still have another 15 or more so years left that they can continue to behave as if the whole world owes them a living and forever blaming others for their own faults, weaknesses, lacking in confidence, insecure and always hiding behind the race and religion cards to continue propping themselves up.

A bit off topic, but I am deeply dissappointed to see the NST (being a pro-Government newspaper) going to town giving the possible impression that DAP opposes crossovers.
See http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Friday/Frontpage/2360282/Article/index_html, and http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Friday/Frontpage/2360281/Article/index_html
This now makes DAP a laughing stock for being a part of Pakatan Rakyat, and yet opposes crossovers.
Whilst I have deep respects for Tunku, I am dissappointed with his narrow mindedness and fixed mind on the crossover issue, as it came across from the interview. For example, his quote here – “… if this happens, I will not be a party to this, because my position is very clear: I will not support it; I will not go along.”
The reason I am dissappointed with Tunku is because crossovers cannot be seen in isolation.
The reality and the bigger picture is that the country is faced with 2 “unethical” choices, one of which is “more unethical” than the other.
First choice is not to cross-over which is Tunku’s position, and yes, it has its own ethical problems. Why? Because it perpetuates the ruling BN Government who has been given every single chance to change for the better, but has not changed. Instead, it has turned for the worse since 803. The continuation of the BN Government which clearly impact the lives of 27+ million Malaysians over the next 4.5 years must also be considered, whether this is ethical or not.
The Second choice is to cross-over, with its own ethical problems too, although this has the capacity to improve the lives of 27+ million Malaysians over the next 4.5 years.
Not easy choices. But not making a decision is equivalent to First Decision, which is no cross-over, and perpetuates the ruling BN government who has lost all moral authority to govern Malaysia.
I am deeply dissappointed with Tunku, because he – instead of discussing the 2 options – has chosen to completely ignore the ramifications and the bigger impact of his narrow minded decision to condemn crossovers.
Tunku was also hugely silent on the Constitution which clearly does not guarantee the PM a 5 year tenure regardless of his lack of performance, not to mention his lies to all 27 million Malaysians that he will introduce badly needed reforms to the country.
I realize Tunku is part of the DAP leadership, but this NST interview has caused a division in DAP, at the time when it appears to be badly needed.
DAP is known for being a very democratic party. Is this “democracy” at work when a lying, incompetent PM and ruling party is allowed to govern Malaysia for the next 5 years? Will other DAP members speaks out and provide a more balanced view on cross-overs to all Malaysians? Is DAP that naive to think that NST Online and other Government controlled newspapers are going to give equal space to “dissenting” views as they would to Tunku’s views?
Very, very sad. A political blunder in my opinion.

emergency umno meeting?? what they do i think the majority of malaysians say ‘WHO CARES!!’ or ‘Is Bo NOW resigning!!’ .
as expected, this so called emergency is ALL FOR THE SAKE OF SALVAGING BO’S HIDE!! if bo is totally sincerely and honestly wanting to pass the baton to nashit, there won’t and shouldn’t be any wayang kulit flying around!!
bo is actually giving the excuse to decide whether to retain post or not and within this time, bo WILL GO ALL OUT TO ‘SLAUGHTER’ those had actually insisted he should step down!!! so i sincerely hope these vocalists are ready foe this expected on-slaught . a simple way to go against such a tyrant is LEAVE BN to join PK or form UMNO B team !!
i pity nashit as i think he is really eagerly to sit on the ‘throne’ but after today’s meetings, his heart must have drop again. sometimes i get this idea that ALL THE WHILE, it is nashit who writes up screen-plays TO MAKE BO LOOK WEAK (as he already is) to the eyes of the public so that bo can be encouraged to resign early to enjoy his lucrative pension!!!
however, this old stubborn (never say give-up) bo will stay on for as long as khairy (the ambitious and cunning) is around to advice him what to do!! if separate khairy from bo, it will be like a gun without bullet and just by using a broom will easily sweep bo out of office!!!
bo stays around for now and will later indirectly give support to khairy for the top youth position so that the umno delegates will and should know what to do (support khairy of course) . if khairy wins, nashit will have rough times ahead!!!
if tomorrow bo hold another emergency meeting and telling the rakyat that fuel will be rm1.40 per litre (following brunei’s charge) & all goods sold MUST BE REDUCED BY 50% , I CAN GUARENTEE ALL MALAYSIANS WILL JUMP WITH JOY & ALL WILL MAKE BANNERS WITH THE WORDS ‘LONG LIVE BADAWI AND BN’
i think since after the announcement, there are many members who are not at all pleased with bo as their ‘complaints’ were thrown into the big sea. i actually wonder were the non-bumi components invited or not. as always, to attend this sort of meetings is like not attending becuase the decision has been made by a self-selfish man and all objections are as always NOT ENTERTAINED. its always the ONE MAN SAY SHOW. why are the discontent contenders not fighting out ?? to me, they are AS WEAK AS HIM so no wonder, we can only see de-provement and not improvement !!!
this should be a great time for PK to become cowboys to ’round-up’ all the discontent cows NOT FOR PK SAKE BUT FOR THEIR SAKE AND THE MALAYSIAN MAJORITY!!! this is the BEST TIME to OUST the WEAK AND THE BAD and put in the STRONG , AGGRESSIVE AND FAIR !!!
Good Luck To PK. We still BANG OUR HOPES ON YOU!!!

Frankly, look at the last 30 years and we will realise that the nation was held ransom by Umno. Whenever there was an internal problem within Umno, the nation and its rakyat suffered, and many times they had suffered.
Umno ministers paid more attention to their own struggles within Umno rather than running the nation properly. And very recently two LRT trains banged each other. “This has not happened in LRT’s history,” said said Transport Minister. – O yeah, another new entry for the Guinness World Records. Malaysia boleh!
Just compare Malaysia with a number of countries that gained independence in the last 50 to 60 years. They, including those which opened up in the last 30 years, are moving ahead rapidly in a number of areas, including actual space exploration (not just sending a space tourist), while Malaysia is still stuck at many tribal issues, such as ‘to quit or not to quit the post of Umno president’, ‘are we or are we not equal citizens in our country of birth’, ‘mind your business or that’s my business’, etc.
Any hope of progress? You figure it out.
And now a joker Umno minister revised the target of producing Malaysian PhD holders from 100,000 to 60,000 by 2020, which he claimed to be more reasonable. Ada otak kah, minister?
It takes 3 to 4 years to complete a PhD degree. We are at the end of 2008 and this gives us 12 more years to 2020. To have 60,000 PhD holders by 2020, we need to produce about 6,000 PhD graduates per year from 2011 to 2020. Boleh kah?
Kangkong PhD holders or the type that OCBC pek moh Arif Shah Omar Shah once intended to be (by signing up for a PhD at the Edison University of Technology)! Cheap, fast, and furious!
Already so many datuk and dato’. Soon many with PhD. Wah lah!

With this kind of deal, it won’t be long before UMNO’s supreme council meet again, there will be only more emergencies coming our away.

It looks like Malaysia belongs to UMNO. Then what are we?

So it was reported in M’sia Insider that March 2009 is Nincompoop’s “get the feck off/ you’re fired” date.
I still think it is too long.
I hope he will not make it past Oct 27th. I would not want him to get a rousing grand farewell party, I want him to exit with his head down, tails between his legs. He really screwed up the country and that is the only exit worthy of him.
Good riddance Nincompoop.

rahmanwang, I have to agree with you. The situation now is for a change in the direction, economically as well as inter-racial relations. If MCA, Gerakan and MIC value Malaysia, leave UMNO and sicnerely be affiliated to PR to path a new direction for this nation. Surely Malaysia is worth more than UMNO and the crumps that fall from UMNO table.
Since MCA and Gerakan members and leaders are monitoring this blog, I hope both parties do something popstive for this nation. Suporting PR is not supporting Anwar or Lim Kit Siang – it’s supporting Malaysia and Malaysian. It is for the future of Malaysians.

Every meeting brings AAB closer to retirement. His fate is sealed before 9 October, and he will be gone before November ends.

UMNO is resting on shifting sand, a little bit more confusion will do the ultimate crumbling trick.
It was exposed before our eyes how UMNO fixes the judiciary via the infamous “Lingam case” and we also witnessed how the police force sang to the tune of UMNO’s Syed Hamid Albar ISA song. Now we are given a glimpse of how just a few men can decide (arrange, compromise ) on the leadership of UMNO and hence the destiny of Malaysia. And you have wondered why foreign investors are turning away! How do you suppose any of them to have any confidence in investing their money in our country????
Please don’t blame it on Anwar!!!

When we are facing a financial crisis that will be worst then the one in 1997.UMNO leaders are fighting about power.
They are not bothered about the country at all ,they are more worried about which camp is going to rule.To rule is to made as much money from the rakyat as possible.
UMNO is just to corrupted

This is the epitome of desperation, AAB will decide by Oct 9 whether he will defend his Umno presidency and the UMNO elections have been deferred til March ’09.
I strongly believe that come Oct 9, AAB will not defend his post or seek nomination for March elections. He will thus ally dissent by simply handing over premiership by June 09 and thus be seen to be leaving on his own accord in a graceful/respectful manner rather than being chucked out, lol.
AAB has always sought cosmetics over substance!

We suffer….i posted in my blogspot the same question this morning.
ONLY THE UMNOites can vote the PM for this country. ie, their President…the PM.
Who are by the way MIC/MCA/Gerakan?? They are NO-BODY…just empty vessels…
#60 by Cinapek on Friday, 26 September 2008 - 3:33 pm
What is the difference between now and Oct. 9? If you are sure you are staying, surely you can say so now. On the other hand, if you know you are a dead duck already and has to go, then this few days makes no difference so just announce you are going and be done with it and let others start repairing the damage you have done.
I suspect the decision has been made already. UMNO just do not want to rock the boat so near to Hari Raya and want AAB to make the announcement only after the Hari Raya holidays.
In the meanwhile they just want to use this pressure cooker atmosphere to see what other worms comes out of the woodwork.

Did the other BN component parties being consulted regarding the power transition plan? It involves the post of Prime Minister. So Umno is the only one calling the shot? Other component parties are not relevant anymore in BN?

In order to hold on to power, abdullah needs to paint a black picture of N. This N is unfortunately tied to the Mongolian lady. Does A know anything that will kill N’s political life? If so, please tell us.
Has Anwar been waiting for this 26th (10 days overstaying) to become prime minister when this out-of-date pm steps down? Unfortunately the out-of-date one still does not want to go. So no nomination of new PM is possible. Please Anwar don’t wait for BN to help you, as it will never happen unless you do something by yourself.
What will the desperate Abdullah do? Will he now use ISA on these several UMNO top guns who wanted him to for him?

At the rate UMNO is going, it won’t be long before they will rename it as ‘united mamaks national organisation’. Will the true blood malays arise, please ! This is not being racists but just that those righteous ones are not into politic and are neither seeking powers nor fame. But at this crucial hours, please make your stand to save this nation from returning to the mamak power base. My apology to the real true blood mamaks as I don’t have ulterior motives but am against those mamaks that shouted that others are VISITORS, whereas they are the warlords.
Please do not dump all the bad events onto Pak Lah as without his open policy after 2004, we would not have reach this new dawn in politics. He was there at the right time for a specific purpose i.e to open up the close mindset of Malaysians for us to dare to dream for a just Malaysia for Malaysians. We dare to pursue change and change it must come as we are now in the threshold of seeing a change of new govt in time to come.
I personally prefer the windows of opportunity of the last five years than that of the former premier’s twenty two long years ! So let us look at the different side of the coin and be thankful for it. Pause for a moment to think that indeed because of Pak Lah, those non bn supporters can taste the fruit of their labours for the current five states. With good governance in all those five states, surely more will be added in time to come and we can send those warlords home to their much deserve rest,….. in full retirement.

It is purely a infighting inside UMNO with each warlord trying to out smart each other solely for their own benefit and greed.
It is definitely not for Malaysia who is left to bleed and uncared for in the light of the severe world economic crisis.
To these warlords, it does not matter to them as they are rich enough to sail through all these potential turmoil. Selflessness and selfishness are the key words in this context of power struggle.
The rakyat dies standing. Gajah sama gajah lawan, semut ditengah-tengah mati.

UMNO is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and ever after (if it is still around) whether with AAB or without AAB!!! This I am assured and all Malaysian should be assured of!!! Read my lips, It wont change no matter what happens!!! It will change for the worst only when PR forms the federal govt!!!

Just curious! Is it necessary to call for MT Meeting for the sake of power transition issue? I do not understand why AAB still reluctant to step down…I totally agreed with what Kuli said.
