It is time that Malaysians return to honest, decent and civil politics about policies and programmes instead of the dishonest, indecent and uncivil politics of lies, hate and fear arousing primordial racial and religious sentiments of fear and hatred.

For instance, I have never accused the Prime Minister and UMNO President, Datuk Seri Najib Razak of being anti-Chinese, anti-Indian, anti-Buddhism, anti-Christianity or anti-Hinduism and Najib, UMNO leaders and UMNO propaganda apparatus should stop making wild and false allegations that DAP and I are anti-Malay and anti-Islam.

Najib and UMNO leaders warn that if UMNO is defeated in the 14th General Election, the Malays in Malaysia will perish.

How can Najib and the UMNO leadership, who have dominated the government in the country for more than half a century, have such low opinion of the Malays as to believe that the Malays are so gullible that they could believe such trash and falsehoods churned out by the UMNO propaganda mills?

How can the Malays perish in Malaysia when Tun Mahathir will be the seventh Malaysian Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim the eighth Malaysian Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan defeats UMNO/BN in the 14GE on May 9, 2018? Read the rest of this entry »

The 14th General Election will be the most important general election Malaysians have ever had to face.

It will mark the first time in our history when a former prime minister leads the Opposition into battle against the party and coalition he once led. In doing so, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has rejected his old party, Umno, and condemned it as a party that no longer fights for the interests of the Malays and Malaysians. He has accused Umno’s leaders as being greedy, corrupt, power-crazy, and serving their own interests.

Many Malays who still revere Tun Mahathir may now be convinced to vote against Umno for the first time in their lives. They may now see in Pakatan Harapan an alternative to Barisan Nasional (BN). This will spark a new voting trend for many Malays. And it brings hope to Pakatan Harapan. For we cannot ignore the fact that GE14 will largely be decided by the Malays.

At the same time, we must also take note that Malaysians of all races have never been so distrustful and contemptuous of BN than now. The 1MDB scandal has tarnished the country’s good name throughout the world, with billions of ringgit of the people’s money stolen from the fund, some of it going to a high public official known as MO1. Other scandals have emerged, like those involving Felda and Mara, which further show how untrustworthy the so-called protectors of the people have become.

After a long-overdue reign of 61 years, the BN government has become not only a kleptocracy (i.e. government of thieves) but also a kakistocracy (i.e. government by the worst). Read the rest of this entry »

I want through the first Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Skudai tonight since I was announced as DAP/Pakatan Harapan candidate for Iskandar Puteri to send out two messages to the 15 million voters in Malaysia, one, that the 14th General Election is all about Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Prime Minister; and two, the 14GE is an opportunity once-in-61 years to “set Malaysia free” from UMNO/BN misrule, corruption, abuses of power, injustices and exploitation.

I was in Sarawak three days ago and I found to my shock and horror that the SUPP is campaigning on the basis that the 14th General Election has nothing to do with Najib but about Sarawak’s right to self-determination.

I am sure that in Peninsular Malaysia, the component Barisan Nasional parties like MCA, Gerakan and MIC would be arguing along the same line, that the 14th General Election is not about Najib as the Prime Minister, but other secondary or subordinate issues. Read the rest of this entry »

When I left Malacca 32 years ago to contest in Penang, it was because we do not want to win only in Malacca, we want also to win in Penang, Perak, Selangor and now in Johor in our struggle to achieve the Malaysian Dream of Malaysia becoming an united and diverse world top-class nation.

When the DAP Central Executive Committee, together with national and state leaders, decided not to use the Rocket symbol in the 14th General Election, but to use instead the Pakatan Harapan common logo of the PkR symbol of the blue-eye, it was the DAP’s supreme sacrifice and strategy to ensure that the 14GE is not battle of individuals or even political parties, but a national patriotic movement to Save Malaysia from becoming a failed, rogue and kleptocratic state

We do not want just DAP to win, but all the parties in Pakatan Harapan – PKR, Amanah and Bersatu – to win and we want to send out the message to all Malaysians that the time has come for everyone of the 15 million registered voters to rise above self, race, religion, region and even political party to vote as one Malaysian people, an affirmation that we are Malaysians first and our race, religion, region or even political party, second. The Putrajaya Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat programme yesterday, where the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, accompanied by the Federal Territories Minister, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and even the Chief Secretary to the government, Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, dished out groceries with big discounts is most saddening but very symbolic.

It is a most symbolic characterization of what UMNO/BN want the 15 million Malaysian voters to do – to “lelong” away their rights and interests and those of future generations in the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018 so that Malaysia can continue to be a global kleptocracy, not only 1MDB scandal but also 2MDB, 3MDB and more 1MDB-line scandals galore making international headlines but not in Malaysia.
