Anwar should present the Madani Economy Plan to week-long meeting of Special Parliament in September for parliamentary sanction

The Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, should present the Madani Economy Plan to the week-long meeting of Special Parliament next month in September.

In announcing the Madani Economic Vision last month, Anwar announced some of salient points of the Plan which include:

  1. Top 30 biggest economies in the world. In terms of nominal gross domestic products, Malaysia currently ranks 35.
  2. Top 12 in IMD World Competitive Index. The current rank is 27.
  3. Income from labour at 45 percent of total income. The present 12th Malaysia Plan goal is 40 percent by 2025.
  4. A 60 percent female participation in the workforce, up from 55.1 percent in 2021.
  5. Top 25 in the UN Human Development Index. Current rank is 62.
  6. Top 25 in the Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI). Current rank is 61.
  7. Keeping the fiscal deficit within three percent of GDP. The deficit for this year is projected to be five percent.

Anwar’s Madani Economy Plan must be debated in Parliament and given the parliamentary sanction.

For instance, how long will it take for Malaysia to be among the top 25 countries in the TI Corruption Perception Index (CPI)?

Before Anwar finished his five year term in 2027 or after?

It took Malaysia 22 years to drop from the inaugural Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CP) 1995 ranking of 23 out of 41 countries to 62 out of 180 countries in 2017, but it took Muhyiddin Yassin 10 months as Prime Minister to drop 11th rankings from 51st place in 2019 to 62nd ranking in 2020, which was revealed in January 2021.

Initially, the 22-month Pakatan Harapan government improved Malaysia ranking in TI CPI 2019 by 10 places and six-point improvement in score.

Can Anwar improve Malaysia’s ranking in the TI CPI 2023 by 10 places and six points in score?

Will Malaysia TI CPI 2023 be Malaysia’s best in ranking and score in 29 years since TI published its CPI in 1995?

What is the Anwar unity government’s target in ranking and score in the TI CPI for the years 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026?
