KUALA LUMPUR, March 8, 2015:
“I think he is still alive, they all are, but I have a feeling that they are never coming back”.
Those were the words of MH370 chief steward Andrew Nari’s daughter, Maira Elizabeth Nari, who up until now still believes that the passengers and crew of the ill-fated flight are still alive.
Speaking to The Rakyat Post, Maira expressed her anger and said that the mystery involving the Boeing 777-200ER did not make sense and believed that “something fishy is going on”.
“How can a big plane just disappear? Maybe it is being kept somewhere. I am at this point where I don’t even know what to say or think anymore.”
Slowly moving on, Maira, who is currently studying Mass Communications at a private college, said she and her family members had become “immune” to the situation as her father was still missing after one year.
“We are getting used to it. We only talk about him when we see something that reminds us of him. For example, my boyfriend has sinus, just like daddy. So when he made this weird sound from his nose, we would say ‘that is just like daddy’.”
Reminiscing about her father, Maira said she could still remember the hugs her father gave her on his birthday.
According to Maira, her father had always wanted a power bank to charge his mobile phone, but could not afford it at that time.
“I had just finished my SPM and started working. I decided to buy something for him with my first salary and so I bought him a power bank.
“At first when he unwrapped the gift, he thought I bought him an Internet package. But when he realised it was a power bank, we could hear him screaming all over the house. Then, he hugged me,” said Maira.
As challenging as it is, the 19-year-old girl keeps a brave front, but said she could not let a day go by without praying to God for her father’s return.
“I used to pray to God to let me see daddy in my dreams. I had a few dreams where daddy was standing in front of our house. Then I realised I cannot keep dreaming about it. So I pray to God for his safe return instead, every day.”
Maira added that her family and her father’s friends would be holding a prayer at the St Thomas Moore Church, Subang Jaya, to mark the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.
Andrew was one of the 12 crew members who were with 227 passengers on board MH370 that disappeared from the radar screen about an hour after departing the KL International Airport on March 8 last year en route to Beijing, China.
