GEORGE TOWN (Dec 14, 2012): DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has described tomorrow’s 16th DAP National Congress as crucial, “both internally and externally”, to select a new party leadership line-up, as well as begin the 100-day countdown before the 13th General Election.

He said, this time around, the selection of the leadership line-up was a record by itself, as 2,576 delegates were eligible to vote in the party’s election.

“This DAP party congress will select the new leadership for the next three years. As such, the congress is important both internally and externally.

“From the internal aspect, it is the duty of DAP members in a democratic process to choose their leaders,” he told reporters during his working visit to the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) here today.

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, said there was no restriction on any media covering the two-day congress which would be held at Pisa.

“We give priority to all main mass media for coverage. But, we hope the reports will be based on truth and facts. We hope the media will give the correct coverage.

“We are not banning any media…they are allowed to cover. There is no restriction as such. This is open to all,” he said.

Themed, ‘The Power of Change’, the congress this time will see 68 candidates vying for 20 central executive committee posts. – Bernama
