On Sunday the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak claimed that his Malaysia Day speech announcement of the repeal of the Internal Security Act and other law reforms was an effort to make Malaysia “the best democracy in the world”.
Within 48 hours however Najib demonstrated that he has neither the political commitment nor the necessary mindset to “walk the talk” of making Malaysia “the best democracy in the world” when he spoke to the Association of Former Members of the Social Welfare Department (PBAKM) calling for assistance to defend Putrajaya by declaring that Seri Perdana is the residence of UMNO and a BN Prime Minister.
Najib cannot be more wrong as Sri Perdana is not the private property of UMNO and Barisan Nasional but the public property of the people of Malaysia, regardless of the outcome of any general election.
No Prime Minister can be serious in wanting make Malaysia “the best democracy in the world” when he refuses to accept the verdict of the people in a general election and uphold the important distinctions among public, party and personal spheres of responsibility, which is the root cause of the rampant corruption, abuse of power and flawed democracy in the country.
Malaysians are reminded of Najib’s deplorable speech at the UMNO General Assembly last year when he used the language of “crushed bodies, lives lost” for Umno to defend power at any cost in Putrajaya.
As Najib is now talking about wanting to make Malaysia the “best democracy in the world”, the first thing he should do to demonstrate his sincerity and credibility by retracting his “crushed bodies, lives lost” declaration to the UMNO General Assembly last year and make a firm public commitment that he, UMNO and Barisan Nasional will accept the verdict of the people, including for a change of government in Sri Perdana, Putrajaya in the next general election.
If Najib is not prepared to make such a retraction and publicly declare acceptance of the general election verdict of the people, the sincerity and credibility of his claim of wanting to make Malaysia “the best democracy in the world” stands immediately exposed as an empty and meaningless stance.

A day before PAS deputy president Mat Sabu is to be charged in court over the Mat indera issue, his home was attacked with fire bombs or Molotov cocktails, prompting rebuke against leaders of arch rival party Umno for carrying out a ‘hate campaign’ against the popular PAS leader.
He was also arrested by the police in connection with his alleged remarks made during a speech on August 21 over the Bukit Kepong incident, wherein he had said Prime Minister Najib Razak’s Umno party was not the only one who fought for Malaya’s independence from British rule.
Sabu, had voluntarily gone to the state police headquarters at 8.30pm before he was detained. He was leter released on bail at 9.05pm. According to PAS lawyer Hanipa Maidin, Sabu will also be charged at the Butterworth court under Section 505 of the Penal Code for making statements aimed to stir public mischief.
If convicted, Sabu faces a maximum two years jail term, a fine or both. Sabu has however denied the allegations and has launched a lawsuit against the Umno-owned Utusan newspaper for twisting his words. “They should be charging Utusan Malaysia,” said Hanipa.
“This is obviously politically motivated and intended to persecute a leading oppositionist,” PKR vice president N Surendran told Malaysia Chronicle.

A test of how much the UMNO elite trust Najib to win the next GE is in the flow of funds overseas. More and more are transferring money to London and Singapore causing the ringgit to fall against most major currencies.

His intent is to get back votes from moderate mainstream / middle M’ysia and yet cover his flank/rear against attacks of those whom Pak Lah described as right wing “hardliners who want to maintain the old system, controlling the flow of information and using laws to silence the public” defending their vested interest identified with existing system. 50 yrs of this ethnocentric political system has spawned an unknown number of these (including some of top echelon politicians), who feed, like parasites on the system.

It is highly debatable that Najib could control them, more likely they control him, as they seek to do with the rest of us with the assistance of authorities acting against all those whom they loge police reports to cower into silence/defeat or face harassment like Mat Sabu. Even if Najib retracts his “crushed bodies, lives lost” these people will be prepared for “crushed bodies, lives lost” to defend Putrajaya/present system from being changed by PR if it wins election. There will not likely be a civilized transition of power. They’re not going to be put in a reverse situation for any new govt to make them account for ill gotten gains and misdeeds committed all these years.

Democracy means amongst others freedom to do things. And that must necessarily include the freedom to crush some bodies and to cause the loss of some lives.
Now this is what jibby jib, in his perverse and twisted mind, meant when he announced his intention to strive for the best democracy in the world.

Even the Sleepy One has recently warned NTR that within his own party, UMNO, the powerful warloads are not going to tolerate any reforms that threatens any power loss that could affect their grubby hands on the gravy train.
So, NTR is desperately trying too hard to be all things to all people. He will end up with pleasing no one. On top of that, he is not strong enough to stand up to all these internal opposition, let alone the external ones. Heck, even FLOM is giving him a hard time. Because of all these pressures, he does not have any firm policies or direction. He is just reacting to whichever direction the wind blows.
Now Mat Sabu is being victimised by Little Napoleons out to score points. The Penang police who is charging Mat Sabu now were the same ones who initiated that absurd charges of “waging war on the Yang Di Pertuan Agong” (with their placards and banners) and “promoting communism” on the PSM6 and now they are again trying to find some silly reasons to charge Mat Sabu. For this one offence that they are charging Mat Sabu, I could think of the hundreds of similar charges that the PDRM could have filed against UTUSAN and Perkasa but never did.
What about that infamous and long drawn out investigation into the alleged attempt by the Christians to take over the Govt as promised by the Penang police and the Home Minister (who declared there was some “truth” to the allegations)? I am sure by now the police has wrapped up their investigations. So what is holding them back? If true, I am sure they would have gone to town with it and charge the Christians with sedition. Since they have remained silent one can only conclude they have no case. So, why have they not charged those responsible for making these baseless allegations with causing public mischief? Why charge Mat Sabu and the double standards? Someone must have hoped that this will please their political masters and score some brownie points for self gain by taking out Mat Sabu and neutralising him before the next GE. It is so blatant even the blind can see through it.

Sri Perdana is not owned by UMNO, not even by the Government of Malaysia. It is owned by Putrajaya Corporation and is being rented for Najib to stay.

By that declaration Najib confirmed that he meant the best democracy as one which ensures perpetuity of one party rule through the tyranny of the majority. That majority is based on race. That is why NEP is retained despite it having achieved the target many times over had a fair evaluation been made. The special position was based on race in 1957 out of ignorance, and before the advent of easy computing power. Now it is a convenient means to manipulate votes.
The ISA would be replaced by law against terrorism when the definition is up to the government to decide; it could be based on the colour of the dress on the persons.
The need for a printing license, though without the ritual of annual application, does not change the habit of press media to self-censor. What are bad are the double standards when Utusan Melayu is licensed to champion racial issues when the government stops other language newspapers from reporting what actually happened.
Najib is confident that the party that represents one majority race would still prevail which explains why he follows the leadership of Perkasa. He is trying to impress upon non-Malays that it is better to stay with the known devil, though that devil would not change, than risk having others who would even declare that Malaysia were never colonized.
Malaysians of the wrong races made the mistake of supporting Razak’s NEP believing that it would end in 20 years. They realize now that that would not change unless UMNO is removed. The Malays should also realize now that UMNO pawns their dignity for the benefit of UMNOputras. They should have a better share of the country resources even when there is no racial discrimination against the minority groups if government leaders are not protected by the democratic despotism for indulging in institutionalized corruption. Besides how do the pride of having rich Malays like the sons of Mamakthir, and Daim Zainuddin help them in their household finance? They still have a chance to change the government, and practices true Islamic teaching on human rights and equality. Or do they preferred to follow the Libyans, in the future?
